[SOLVED] Can't see my windows partition from openbox
Hi again!
After changing from gnome to openbox my windows partition is not visible , however my external drive is visible and accesible .
I'm using thunar file manager .
What might be the issue ?
THanks for your help!

If you want the partition to be mounted everytime at boot, i agree with Mr.Elendig:
putting it in fstab is the easiest way to do.
But just in case, as I see you're using thunar.
If you have thunar-volman installed, you can use "thunar-volman -a DEVICE_UID" to mount whatever you want
1)
blkid
to get the UUID, then
2)
lshal | grep info.udi | grep UUID
to get the full UID
then you can use volman -a /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_uuid_B6380918230...
I'm using it in ~/.config/openbox/autostart.sh to automount my USB disk at boot, for example:
I wanted to keep the hotplugging possibilies, but even it was automounting OK when plugged after boot, "coldplugging" wasn't working, and it was quite boring having to do it manually (or unplug/replug) it everytime.
Don't know if it's the best way to do it, but it's working perfectly!
Edit:
It will be mounted in /media/disk by default
It's possible to mount this NTFS partition with a specific user, group or name, in case you need it.
(wich can be really usefull to use mpd with your music on a hotplugged NTFS disk, for example: you specify a group, and you make the mpd user part of it...)

[SOLVED] Can't see my windows network anymore
I just updated my Arch 64 machine today (hadn't updated since last friday). I saw that the new kernel 2.6.38 was in core now etc. The update went fine but now in Dolphin I can't see my windows shares anymore. I complains about the firewall, so I turned it off but still it does see anything. Anybody else having issues with smb since the last few days of updates?

[Solved] Can't see GPT disk partitions in Windows 7 (64-bit)
I just added 2 new disks and had them set up equally with GPT and equal partitions, to use the partitions as RAID1 in Arch, and the rest of the storage for Windows. It works as expected in Linux (I guess), but Windows shows them as uninitialized.
Can this be due to the fact that I created the GPT and partitions using fdisk? Caus' gdisk can't see any partitions either when I start it. If so, is there any way to convert it or do I need to redo everything?
The output of "fdisk -l" shows this:
Disk /dev/sdc: 1.8 TiB
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 4096 bytes

Can see Windows PCs from Mac, but can't see (and access) Mac from PCs
Yesterday, I ran into a strange problem which I'm not able to figure out.
I share an office with some engineers, who have their computer environment (server, network), all running Windows (XP and Vista on the PCs, Windows 2003 for the server).
Within that environment, I have 2 PCs (both XP) and an iBook G4 (Leopard 10.5.4.). I have also a printer (Epson Laser), which is connected to the office network, and an Airport Extreme Base Station.
Until last week, I could connect from my PCs to my iBook (wirelessly), and from the iBook I could connect to my PCs, the server, and via the server print on my printer (again, all wirelessly).
Over the weekend, I took out the Airport Extreme Base Station (to help with an issue at home - see my thread over at Printing), and yesterday I brought it back to the office and installed it again.
And since I re-installed the Base Station, this is the problem:
1. from PCs, I can't see the iBook (can't attach a PC drive letter - eg. I:\), and therefore can't access it
2. from the iBook, I can't print to my printer - furthermore, when I select the Printing preference and click "Add Printer", no printers whatsoever show up (the list stays blank), whereas before the engineers' printer (some Minolta Bizhub with Bonjour) would show up as well
3. I can, however, access the Windows server from my iBook
Any ideas what's going on? I tried to solve this, but gave up quickly (no way I can possibly figure this out), plus I have this issue at home (can't print wirelessly to a printer attached via USB to a Time Capsule - I can, however, print to the same printer if I attach it to the previously used Airport Express!) - 2 problems and mounting headaches!
I am thinking about re-installing the whole system (take off all data, do a complete wipe and start afresh…), but don't like to spend a whole day doing this…
Again, thanks for any advice!
JanYou only need one computer to configure the Base Station - and since you can easily do this from your PC, you really don't need to be able to do it from your Mac as well. I suggest you stop worrying about this, leave your Base Station running with the current firmware version, and use your PC if you ever need to make a configuration change.
Note that NO Base Station software needs to be installed on the Mac, for the Mac to be able to connect wirelessly to the Base Station. If your Mac is currently unable to establish a wireless connection to the Base Station, you have a different problem - and one that won't be solved by installing the Airport Admin Utility or downgrading firmware on the Base Station. Incidentally - what type of wireless security are you using on the Base Station - WEP or WPA? A base station configured to use WPA security will only be accessible by a Mac running at least MacOS 10.3. -

I can't see the Mac partition (and I can't install Mac Os X!)
Well, I installed Windows XP, I used MacDrive, etc. Suddenly it appeared a blue screen (in XP) and now I can't see the Mac partition, even pressing Alt while booting. Also I can't reinstall Mac Os X because the Mac partition doesn't appear in the install's menu or in the disk utilities (in the disk utilities it gets freezed when I try to enter to it, so I can't manage or restore the hard drive)
Help!Hi, Ralph,
The problem is that I did erase the partition, using disk utility, but I can't go back to my original disk size pre-partition, as disk utility won't let me do it and gives the message "Couldn’t modify partition map because file system verification failed." When I try to use Boot Camp Assistant it won't let me select the third option to remove windows. -
I can't see my Windows PCs on my Airport network
I have recently setup my Time Capsule as my wireless router. I have connected my MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Windows Vista Home Edition to the wireless network and can access the internet fine. I can also connect to my Seagate NAS from the Macs as well as from the Windows Vista machine. My 2 Macs can "see" each other on the network and I can successfully connect to each. I cannot "see" my Windows machine from my Macs, or my Macs from my Windows machines.
Any suggestions? Thanks for your help Tesserex. Ni was traveling last week and didn't have a chance to try your suggestion. However, when I arrived home I was suddenly able to access all of my Mac and Windows PCs on the network again with full access to all of my shared files.
I didn't change any settings, it just started working. Not sure if it took a while for the settings to propagate through my AirPort network, but it all seems to be working fine now.
Thanks again for trying to help. -
Copying windows partition from one macbook to another
My wife has a work laptop and a home laptop, both macbooks. Is it possible to move the windows partition from her work laptop to her home laptop, so that she can use 1 computer instead of two different ones?
I've seen that winclone is a method for cloning the bootcamp partition. Anyone want to give advice about how to go about doing this?
I think I need to go into Bootcamp setup to make a partition first on her home macbook.
I also need to clone the work macbook windows partition.
Any other hints, tips, links and instructions to get the partition to work would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!Been a month, so I assume you've gotten it done. If not:
Get Winclone (free). Run it and backup to an external Mac-format drive (not Win-format drive).
On new computer make a partition (with Boot Camp Assistant) the same size or larger as the partition on orig drive.
Run Winclone on new computer and do a Restore to the Bootcamp partition you just made.
Should work, but don't do it without a sure 2nd backup, and don't wipe the first computer until the 2nd one is running. Winclone is sometimes a little flakey. -
Can I install additional Windows Partition?
Hi,
I currently have a Mac Pro OS X 10.5.8 with a 500 GB HD (primary) with Boot Camp 2.1 with a 220 GB Windows Vista (32 bit) partition running on my system. Works great.
I just purchased an Western Digital Black Caviar 1 TB internal drive and I own an unused copy of Windows XP SP2.
Can I partition my new drive (secondary) with Bootcamp Assistant and create a Windows XP partition that I can boot up into as well as my Vista partition?
Please Help!
Thank you,
LeapstepmanSo are you technically saying that Boot camp doesn't allow the user to add more than one Windows installation? I know it doesn't allow more than one install per a volume. But I was hoping to split my 1 TB drive into 500 GB partitions and allocate one partition to OS X and the other to the new Windows XP install.
I found below info but it wasn't 100% clear to me if it is saying only one Windows partition per each volume or one Windows partition period.
===========================
From Boot Camp 2.0 FAQs:
I have more than one hard drive, can I install Microsoft Windows on any drive?
You can install only one Windows partition on any of your computer volumes. The Setup Assistant will allow you to partition drives, or to install Microsoft Windows on an entire drive if it does not contain Mac OS X.

How can I see my Pdf,s from my Pc on my Smartphone?
If they're only on your PC, you can't.
Post a copy into the cloud to share it across different devices. Adobe Reader on both desktop and mobile has an integrated cloud storage system precisely for this reason. It's very prominently advertised in both apps, you can't miss it. -
