I noticed some trouble I've been having with xmobar and xmonad, so I figured I would try making sure everything is up to date before I did anything else, since that often solves problems. But when I try to run pacman -Syu or yaourt -Syu, it halts because of dependencies errors with haskell and xmonad. Here's a screenshot:

warning: removing 'libgl' from target list because it conflicts with 'nvidia-utils'
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
    :: nouveau-dri: requires libgl=9.0
A little bit aggravating, it kindly removes libgl from the list because of a conflict then fails out because it's required.
I used nouveau as my graphics driver for a year or two when I first set up this system, but it started giving me weird slowdowns and errors so I tried switching to the proprietary drivers (I know, shame shame) which fixed it. I'm not surprised that they're not compatible, but when I tried to figure out how to remove nouveau I see that it is built into the kernel? I followed the directions as explicitly as possible when installing nvidia so I'm not sure where I went wrong.
Right now, I can't upgrade and I would really like to avoid the pitfall of just blacklisting nouveau-dri. I'd rather invest the work into actually fixing the problem.
    I would appreciate any advice.

IIRC since version 1.0.2-2 xf86-video-nouveau depends on nouveau-dri which in turn depends on libgl which conflicts with nvidia because Nvidia provides their own libgl implementation.
    This might help: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Nv … au_drivers
Thank you, that was quite helpful. The script to switch from nouveau to nvidia includes the line to remove the packages libgl, nouveau-dri, and xf86-video-nouveau. I tried running just that line and it failed out because nouveau-dri and libgl aren't actually installed. How irritating! However, I was able to remove xf86-video-nouveau, and after that pacman has gotten past the dependency check and is installing packages so I think this is fixed.
Big kudos for all the help, marking this solved.

Try replacing `sed -i 's/'-Werror'/''/g' Makefile` with `sed -i 's/-Werror/-Wno-error=implicit-function-declaration/g' Makefile` in the PKGBUILD. This won't fix the warning but the package should build.

  • [SOLVED] Can't compile tupi-git or Ktoon from AUR - hardware failure

EDIT:  Tupi-git compiles fine, just not on my main desktop. the machine, has some nasty hardware problems, caused by a lightning storm/power failure a few weeks ago .
it appears, the CMOS is damaged (clock skew and other problems), and that the motherboard also has problems (NMI interrupt handler warning, as well as CPU damage, fun).
it's time to buy some new hardware, i guess.
    Hi everyone,
I am having a strange issue.  I have been using Tupi-git, for a while - but the other day i went to re-compile it, and now it won't build. it's interesting because i have been able to compile Tupi-git in the past, no problem. i've also tried compiling it manually from git too.
I am running gnome3 and tupi / ktoon shouldn't have much dependencies to KDE itself (as i said i have compiled Tupi before. I tried to compile Ktoon, thinking it might pull in a dependency i had missed or something, but no dice... I've even chatted with the Tupi developer about it, he even installed Arch and was able to get it to compile...
however, he is using KDE, so i am wondering if their is some mysterious dependency (although i did try installing kdebase, but it made no difference). my main concern is tupi / not so much ktoon - but i mention ktoon because Tupi is a fork of it.
I'm at a loss as to what is stopping it, i had thought maybe a linker is missing somewhere, or it can't find a header / library.
    it fails here:

I just tried to compile pulseaudio 0.9.14 from the pulseaudio website on arch x86_64.
In my /etc/makepkg.conf I have CHOST="x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu" So i don't think its the problem

    Also note that

says that pulseaudio needs a rebuild because of a new version of libtool

    Hi the_mad_movies,
It seems like this article will be the best option for addressing this issue:
Error 3194, Error 17, or "This device isn't eligible for the requested build"

  • Since 28th December I can't  install new apps and can't  update my newspaper. How can this problem be solved?

I can't update my newspaper "Welt HD", nor can I install new apps from the app store.

I tried to turn off and reset my iPad several times with no result.
    Many thanks for all tips,

The problem is solved by using backup from iCloud.
