[SOLVED] Conky 100% transparent bg with Compiz

Enabling the Compiz Wallpaper (diffrent wallpaper at different desktop) with disabled nautilus/xfdesktop to draw on it..
How to make conky seems not to lose the transparency?

Hmm, I'm not too sure then. Have you tried asking in the compiz IRC channel? #compiz on freenode. Also these might be relevant:

Good luck!

  • [Solved] Multiple wallpapers on MATE with Compiz

    Hi.
I wanted to make MATE work with Compiz so it would let me have multiple wallpapers with the Wallpapers feature in ccsm. When I set the settings in ccdm, it doesn't work.
I googled it, and although it showed me a few settings I should change in the configuration editor, it did nothing.
What should I do so I can make it work?
EDIT: solved. Basically, I removed nautilus (I don't want to use it anymore) -- it was also conflicting with caja, and set the show_desktop in apps/caja/preferences to false.
Note: setting the show_desktop to false will mean removing icons from desktop. I don't know how to put them back up, but I will look it up later.

Ah, of course, Nautilus was managing the desktop. You can turn that off from Nautilus in its preferences so you can still use it as the file manager (if I remember right). Well that's how it worked with Gnome 2 anyway. BTW, isn't Caja their name for Nautilus, so the same thing?
As for icons, I don't use or want those on my desktop so I've never looked into a replacement functionality but this might be something you have to give up to have Compiz manage the wallpapers.
p.s. If you're looking for an amazing file manager then check out SpaceFM.
It's just a file manager, right?
I'm looking at it right now, it looks amazing.

  • [SOLVED] Conky troubles with Gnome

I don't know if I am making some obvious, easily correctable mistake, or if this is a known bug. I have looked on the wiki and all I could find about Conky on Gnome was a short little thing that caused this problem:

Has anyone else discovered a way to make conky work transparently with Gnome as a DE?
    Thanks for the help!

Thats because you keep exhibiting the same behaviours, despite being asked not to.
I'll link you (again) to the Forum Etiquette. Please read all of it.
Don't expect that help vampirism will be tolerated here, it won't.
I'll also remind you of the Arch Way
This user-centric design necessarily implies a certain "do-it-yourself" approach to using the Arch distribution. Rather than pursuing assistance or requesting a new feature to be implemented by developers, Arch Linux users have a tendency to solve problems themselves and generously share the results with the community and development team – a "do first, then ask" philosophy.

  • Assuming video is not compatible with compiz-fusion...?

I'm installing ArchLinux on a extra computer at work... works great... but for the fun of it I tried running compiz fusion on it. I get this:
    [root@myhost ~]# fusion-icon
    * Detected Session: kde
    * Searching for installed applications...
    * Using the GTK Interface
    (fusion-icon:7540): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
    Using the fallback 'C' locale.
    * KWin is already running
    * Setting window manager to Compiz
    ... executing: compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp
compiz (core) - Fatal: No GLXFBConfig for default depth, this isn't going to work.
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0
    * Setting window manager to KWin
I'm just using an xorg.conf that was generated with #X -configure, and have also tried one generated with hwd -x.  Both detect  "sis" as the video driver.  Listing below...
Am I right to assume that this means that the video in not compatible with compiz? Or could it be some settings that need to be tweaked.
    Thanks for any advice.

Are you 100% sure? I just run glxinfo and it says:
    direct rendering: Yes
And I'm confused. Are there any chances of getting compositing to work on SiS card in this case?
I'm not the expert here, but compiz can work with indirect rendering, so I don't think that's the qualifier for if it works for your system.

  • Transparency Issues with PSD files in FCP 7

I'm having some weird file layer transparency issues with FCP 7. I'm working on a project that's made up entirely of graphics drawn in Photoshop CS5. They Photoshop settings were done to match an HDTV 1080i (16:9) sequence in FCP. In FCP, the pixels were set to square, field dominance to none, frame rate to 29.97 and compressor is Apple ProRes 422.
I exported my PSD files out of Photoshop, with each layer being exported to its own file. In general, things were fine, but there were a few files where you could see the outline of the character against the background, but mind you that this is only visible once the video is rendered out in the FCP timeline. Nothing is visible in Photoshop, nor is it visible while viewing from the Browser in FCP. I told this to the artist and he went back and made corrections, making sure everything was on a transparent background, but the result was still the same - once I rendered the graphics out in FCP, these edge lines were visible.
I then went back into Photoshop, opened all the files that were giving me trouble, clicked on the "foreground color" and changed it to a color other than white, then back to white and hit ok. That seemed to work - even when rendered out, I was getting no artifacts, until I tried enlarging the graphics over 100%.
Also, with some of the same graphics, I was trying to layer them so that a guy was in the foreground with other people and a van behind him in the background. Once again, no problem in Photoshop, but once brought into FCP, the background people were actually being displayed over the main foreground character.
I'm pretty baffled - what to do? I'll attach a photo of the weird lines around the characters. It might be hard to see at this size, but if you download and enlarge it to 300% or so, you'll see what I mean.

Just saw that Adam's original post was an older one.  Will keep this here anyway to maybe help the most recent poster.

Adam, did you try what David said about pointing to the root folder?  Did that work?
When I copy the SD card, I name a new folder on my hard drive something specific, like Smith Wedding.  Then I copy everything inside the SD card to that new folder.  The first level inside my new folder now has folders for
    AVF_INFO
    PRIVATE
and on down from there.  When you open Log and Transfer, point it to the Smith Wedding folder (of course whatever you have named yours).
ClipWrap2 also works great to convert the files beforehand if you want.
What camera are you using?  I have the Sony NX30 and it was giving me fits because the .mts files don't ingest if the clips are longer than 11 min. My problem is that I'm still on FCP 6.0.6.  I think 7.0.3 fixed that.  But I did find enough work-arounds to keep the camera.
This is a link to the full discussion if you are interested.

  • Transparent page with outlined font for motion 5

I am trying to follow this tutorial. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scbXhiZy8uA
I need to create exactly what he does in the first minute of the video. A transparent background with outlined texts, I have the script nescessary to create the effect. I have zero experience with illustrator. Can someone provide a detailed step process or provide links to videos that will solve my problem.
Please watch the video to understand exactly what im having trouble with. Thank you.

What is your problem you forgot to mention it.
Keep in mind the background in illustrator is always transparent and you physically need to add a shape to fill it. The white background is just to make it easier to see the lines. You can turn on and off the checkboard pattern as you like (View>Show transparent grid) or ctrl-shift-d(windows)cmd-shift-d(mac)

  • Transparent design with router on both sides?

I am looking to solve a design which has to work in two scenarios. Preferably with an in-line solution.
    1. Transparent design with VRF on both sides:
    FW-VRF (Subnet A)
          |
          | (VLAN 11)      | ACE (Subnet A)
          |
          | (VLAN 12)
          |
    LAN-VRF
          |
          |  (VLAN 13)
          |
    Real servers (Subnet B)
    2. Transparent design in plain bridge mode
    FW-VRF (Subnet A)
          |
          | (VLAN 11)      |
       ACE (Subnet A)
          |
          | (VLAN 12)
          |
    Real servers (Subnet A)
As mentioned, I am aiming for a single design for both scenarios. A routed design will not pass in the first scenario and a one-arm solution will be inefficient in the second scenario. (both due to existing infrastructure) Is it possible to solve this with a transparent solution in both scenarios? I can't seem to get it to work.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I'm gonna expand my question a bit as I can not seem to get a working config in scenario 1. From the ACE I can ping the VRFs on both side of the ACE. I can on the other hand not ping neither the bvi-address of the ACE nor one VRF from the other. Can anyone notice any immediate errors in my config? Thanks in advance for any help!
    Addresses:
    10.3.66.1 - FW_VRF on client side
    10.3.66.6 - LAN_VRF on server side
10.3.66.7 - BVI if on ACE

  • Stacks 100% transparent?

Ok I could have sworn my stacks used to have a semi-transparent background to them. i use my dock on the left side so my stacks are grids. my grid stacks are 100% transparent, which makes them hard to see the icons sometimes with other windows behind them.
Is anyone elses stacks totally transparent?

I have the same problem but repairing permissions doesn't work...
Everytime i restart or logout i have the opacity back for some hours and then it turns transparent again.

  • ITunes 6.0.1.3 downloads a video 100%, then fails with "An Unknown Error"

I've downloaded several videos from ITMS but the most recent one I've purchased will complete the download process and then fail. I've tried "check for purchases" several times and always get the same result - download the ~200 MB file, then fail when the progress bar is full.
I've tried disabling Grisoft AntiVirus, defragmenting the hard drive, chkdsk for errors (no errors), but I keep getting the same thing every time - about 8 tries):
    [Red X graphic]
There was an error downloading your purchased music.
    An unknown error occurred (0xFFFE7958).
Use the Check for Purchased Music command in the Advanced menu to try again later.
    [OK]
I don't use iTunes for music - just for video downloads.
    Any ideas?

    Same problem here!!!
Three times I tried to download the D.Housewives and three times it failed. I did the check the purchased and was able to start again but everytime it got to either 99% or 100% it failed with a error but on the third time it failed I guess it triggered something and it no longer shows as Purchased Music. I contacted Apple and they told me I am out of luck!
Good thing my Ipod is less then 30 days old as it is going back to the store.
Here is their response after taking my $1.99 but no delivering the product!!!
    Dear Steve,
Thank you for contacting the iTunes Music Store.

  • I'm no longer able to select the file size when emailing a photo. How can I solve this? iPhone 4S with iOS 7.1.1

I'm no longer able to select the file size when emailing a photo. How can I solve this? iPhone 4S with iOS 7.1.1. Thanks a lot.

Yeah - I tried that, several times; each time I get "iTunes is restoring the software on this iPhone" and after about 30 minutes the screen on the phone lights up again with the same screen I had before.  After that ... nothing.

  • White box behind transparent images with drop shadow in InDesign CC 2014 (v.10) but not in InDesign CC (v.9)

    Hi all,
Please can you help? No matter what settings I use in my print options in InDesign CC 2014 (v.10), ALL transparent images with a drop shadow are printing with a white box behind the image. If I remove the drop shadow, all prints fine. I know this is an old issue that happens with ID sometimes but I have been lucky enough to never have had it happen to me before! (All images are regular flattened TIFF images with clipping paths).
Also, feathered edges are not printing correctly and are sharp instead of feathered.
When I export the document to IDML and open it up in InDesign CC (v.9) all prints perfectly with no white boxes and feathered edges prints perfectly as well. I have compared all of the print settings (including color management, transparency flattener, etc.) between both versions and they are exactly the same. I am printing to a Xerox color laser printer. Can anyone offer any advice?
    Thank you so much,
    Christine

Okay...false alarm! It turns out that the issue was with my PRINTER settings (the settings you customize after hitting the “Printer” button at the bottom of the Print dialogue box in ID CC. I thought I had triple checked this but it seems there was one setting I missed earlier…adjusting the print brightness seemed to cause the issue. SO GLAD to know it was not InDesign…20 or so sheets/prints later….and thankful to know what was causing the issue! Thank you so much Steve for helping at any rate:) Much appreciated:)

  • Really interesting bug with Compiz, not sure how to label it

Hi forums, I really promise I searched around for this, so if this is a super common bug, I apologize in advance (I really wasn't sure how to even label what was happening). All I know is that when compiz is enabled, I'm getting super weird behavior in programs, mostly with terminal and system menus. The only way I know to show this is by a screenshot:
    http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h248/ … 0c7d62.png
As you can see from the pic, there are multiple menu objects highlighted (I promise I don't have 3 mouse pointers!). I couldn't capture this via screenshot, but the highlighted elements are actually alternating between this set and another. I could show more instances of this, but I think it would just be redundant. Another (possibly related) issue is the odd behavior in terminal. When I am using terminal to do something, be it accessing the AUR repository or editing a file somewhere, or anything really, the terminal scrolls up and down exactly 1 line, repeatedly (very fast). The only other place I experience significant issues is with compizconfig settings manager (ccsm). When trying to access a different menu, the ccsm window flashes very quickly back and forth to the previous menu screen. All of these things make it incredibly difficult to make selections. My browser (chrome) is fortunately exempt from this dilemma.
The only thing I know for sure is that this is caused by compiz. Disabling compiz (going back to xfwm or using another window manager) eliminates the issue. I hadn't had this issue until yesterday, but I really hadn't changed anything.
    Things I've tried:
    - Reinstalling compiz
    - Enabling/Disabling Emerald
    - Installing compiz-bzr
    - Fooling with metacity
    - Restarting
Any advice or words of wisdom on this would be very appreciated

Thanks for the reply. I'm actually using a slightly older nvidia gpu (480 GTX) with nvida-340xx, which is what nvidia recommends. I've worked with changing video driver parameters, and nothing there has seemed to change this much. I was afraid this was being caused by a mistake of mine, but it seems more and more likely that this is a problem with compiz: to test, I made a virtual machine and installed arch there (same setup as mine, only completely fresh) and I'm having the same issues. I like compiz because of the amazing ability to theme and control the general appearance of my gui. Is there a good alternative that one of you all could recommend?

  • No window decoration with Compiz using gtk-window-decorator

    Hello.
I know this is and old problem with Compiz and ArchLinux, but no matter what I do, I can't make it work.

And this, if I try to run Compiz with fusion-icon, with o without the Dbus option:

At least one check had to be skipped:

    Other considerations:
"Window decorations", "Resize windows" and "Move windows" are checked in ccsm for user and root.
"gtk-window-decorator --replace" is set at the command field in "Window decorations" options.
My kernel version is 2.6.35-ARCH, and the video driver is ATI Catalyst 10.12 with Xorg 1.9.
Everytime I use compiz-manager, Gnome crashes.
Thank you for your time guys, I hope this information helps you to help me out.

That's not an option, I don't want to sacrifice video performance for a few effects.
Also, shouldn't be that way, why a distribution like ArchLinux, one of the best, has this kind of problems with Drivers.

    Best regards.

You can install the packages from AUR too (you will need to compile them).
Ive compiled the packlages with GNOME support and athlon optimizations and puted on my ftp:
