Stacks 100% transparent?

Ok I could have sworn my stacks used to have a semi-transparent background to them. i use my dock on the left side so my stacks are grids. my grid stacks are 100% transparent, which makes them hard to see the icons sometimes with other windows behind them.
Is anyone elses stacks totally transparent?

I have the same problem but repairing permissions doesn't work...
Everytime i restart or logout i have the opacity back for some hours and then it turns transparent again.

  • Stacked 100% bar chart - Problem with datatips for zero value data points

I have a stacked 100% bar chart that shows datatips in Flex 4.   However, I don't want it to show datatips for
data points with zero values.   Flex 4 shows the datatip for a zero value data point on the left side of a bar if the data point is not the first in the series.
Here's the code that illustrates this problem.    Of particular concern is the July bar.    Because of the zero value data point problem, it's not possible to see the datatip for "aaa".
Any ideas on how we can hide/remove the datatips for zero value data points ?        Thanks.

Hmm, I'm not too sure then. Have you tried asking in the compiz IRC channel? #compiz on freenode. Also these might be relevant:

  • 100% transparency possible?

I created a text image in PS with a transparent background,
saved it as a PNG and made it into an animation in Flash. Using DW
I I imported the flash animantion and applied wmode:transparency to
it. It worked for the most part, but you can still see a slight
difference between the transparency of the text image (i.e. you can
tell it's a rectangular box) and the background of my site.
Anything different I should be doing?

try open your html using firefox or safari and see if the
    same problem exist.
this might caused by a common alpha transparency issue for
older version of Internet Explorer on Windows platform.

  • Bar Charts with Non-Stacked Subgroups

I'm trying to create a report in CR2008 for my elementary school principals that will display how many students received a specific grade each of the three marking periods (T1, T2, and T3) per grade level per subject area (Math, PE, etc.).  I was able to do this with a separate chart for each marking period, but would like to combine the charts into a single chart that has the grades (such as ADV, PRO, or BLB) across the bottom, and has the trimester scores as subgroups, so it looks something like this:
                   3    123     23   1     1
                  23    123    123   123   12
    Kinder Math  123    123    123   123   123    123
ADV    PRO+   PRO   APP   BASI   BLB
Each of the grades would have three subgroups (bars) representing the three trimesters.  The y-axis scale would be the count of students who received each grade, with the maximum value set to the total number of active students at the end of the year (plus a small fudge factor in case the T3 enrollment is smaller than the T1 or T2 enrollment).
The database (SQL Server 2005) I'm pulling from has table I'll call Grades; it's joined to a table called Students to get the grade level.  Each record in Grades has the following data in it (names have been changed to make them make more sense here, and only relevant fields are shown):
    StudentID, CourseNum, Section, T1_Active, T1_Grade, T2_Active, T2_Grade, T3_Active, T3_Grade
If a student was enrolled in a specific CourseNum and Section at the end of a marking period, the XX_Active field will be "A"; if it's not, it should be skipped in the counting.  Because of this it is very possible that the count for a specific grade/trimester is zero, especially at the outliers (ADV and BLB).
In Chart Expert >> Data >> Advanced, the current charts are set up using:
    On change of Grade.T1_Grade
    Show value(s): Count of Grade.T1_Grade
(Substitute T2 or T3 for the second and third charts.)  Unfortunately, I have no clue what to choose for these values to get a combined chart.
    My questions:
    1) Does CR support bar graphs with subgroups that aren't stacked?  Does it support having three subgroups?
2a) If so, what would be my next step to making this work?  Is the secret in running totals, formulas, arrays, or something else?  Maybe creating a view in the database that rearranges the data to make it easier to work with?
2b) If CR doesn't support this directly, would it be worth while to fake it with six separate bar charts u2013 a chart just for ADV next to a chart just for PRO+, etc. u2013 or would the performance penalty be too much?  Would I need to have them each in their own subreport, or could they all live on the same level?  Is this the way I'd need to go if I also wanted to put trend lines over or above each letter grade group?
Thank you in advance for any pointers you can give me.

If you can create a view, that would be very helpful, by making the view, you are pushing some of the work to the
server, so... "Hopefully" the report will be quicker. I don't think making six seperate charts would be all that much load on the
server, or cr. If you do that, would you stack the charts? and just make the top stacks with Transparent backgrounds?
Rather than add a view on the server u2013 there's talk that the next version of the gradebook program will completely refactor the database u2013 I did a SQL Command (I can't remember where I read about that tip over the last couple of feverish days, but my hat's off and I owe someone a frosty adult beverage!) that created a simplified table.  I then used that to create a Cross-Tab (my original report approximated one using a whole bunch of Running Totals).
I then tried to make the chart, and got completely frustrated u2013 again u2013 until I accidentally created a chart from the Cross-Tab (right-click on the Cross-Tab and choose Insert Chart ).  I had no idea you could do that, and it ended up being exactly what I wanted.
I have CRXI, if you go to the Sample reports, you will see one called Chart.rpt, this has multiple examples of some of the
charts you can create. Perhaps a 3D riser chart would meet your requirements. HTH If not, can you provide some different samples?
I would have never thought to look for the samples.  Thank you!  Now that I've got my immediate problem solved it's time to look at the samples and see what possibilities exist for future reports.

  • How to save an icon as a bitmap file in illustrator with transparency?

    Hello I need help,
I don't normally work with bitmap files however I find myself in need to save out a set of icons in this particular format for a client to use with their own software on a pc. this software can only import/use .bmp files.
In my export options .bmp is an option but I am unable to save it out with a transparent background which is a big issue. The result is an icon with white background and I need it to be transparent.
I tried pasting these icons to photoshop but I only is a portable bitmap format in the "save as" menu which I don't think will work as it creates a .PMP file and I don't think it will work with client's software. I am on a mac, with illustrator CC as well as photoshop.
I would very much appreciate help with this, I have been trying to figure this out for 2 hours now. Thank you in advance.

When I have created bitmap icons in the past (used to work for a software company) I used to create them with either a icon creator tool (Axialis) or directly in photoshop.
For color depths 24 BPP or less, the transparency is coded by using a fixed color. Each pixel that have this exact color will be converted as transparent when the image is loaded in the toolbar. Usually, the color used is green RGB(0,255,0) or magenta RGB(255,0,255). The problem of this method is that if you use a pixel of that color in your icon image (not the background), it will be converted as transparent. The other issue is the poor quality of the borders (around the icons) because it does not permit smooth transparency. In other words, a pixel is either 100% transparent or 100% opaque, there is no variable transparency. It results in "aliasing" on borders for icons with rounded shapes.
This is an old technique so you will struggle to get the desired results but worth you having a look for "creating bmp icons with transparency" online.

  • I want to delete all transparent pixels, how can I? CS6

I would like to delete all transparent pixels surrounding my irregularly (non-square) image.  The TRIM function only trims to a square surrounding my image and not to the edge of the image itself.  Is there a work around for this?  I have looked around and haven't found one.
    Thanks,
    JB

Image have rectangular area they have a width and height boundaries as do layer.  Not all of the rectangular area need to have content or be fully opaque,  However the image boundary is a rectangle.  Some file formats are like a Photoshop Background layer do not support empty area or even transparency so those file formats only contain image that are rectangles and have no transparency. Some file formats support transparency and empty areas so those images can be any shape and contain transparency still the image boundary is rectangular. Then there is the GIF file format an oddball format. It only supports 256 Colors. Pixels are mapped to one of the 256 colors selected for the image.  If you want Transparency in a gif  the number of colors is reduced by 1 to 255  the 256 color now indicate no content its not real transparency it just a no color pixel in other words off or no content.
So if you have areas that are 100% transparent there is nothing to delete the area is empty.  If you have pixels that contain some transparency and you delete those pixels you delete details are you sure you want to delete all pixels that contain transparency? You will loose things like drop shadows

  • PNG Transparency

I have imported a button made in photoshop as a PNG into Flash. I want to animate the shadow behind the button.
How do I make the shadow png. go from 0% to 100% transparent? I have tried altering the colour alpha option but as expected this doesnt work.
    Cheers ya'll

If you convert to a movie clip, then alpha option should work.
Also, if it is just a simple drop-shadow, you can attach that directly to the button in flash in the Filters panel, and animate it - no images necessary.

  • Transparency issue flash please help

Has anyone come across transparency problem with png's and
animations in flash player 9.0.115.0 ? They seem to be showing a
semi transparent white box around the png or animation
is this an issue with the flash player or something else?
    transparency
    problem

I am a big user of pngs in my sites, but have never seen the
problem you posted. It could be the png settings you used when you
saved the image, or it could be the property settings on the bitmap
within the flash file, or it could be that the transparent part of
the image is actually not 100% transparent.
I dont believe it is anything with the flash player.

  • Forms 6i and the "transparent engine"

    Hello all,
I am on a decision stage in my life. I want to know the diferences between Forms 6i and Visual Basic.
Somebody have experiences on ODBC connectivity with AS/400 or SQL Server.?
Is it possible development an Forms 6i application that is connected a "transparent engine" (Oracle,DB/2 AS400,SQL Server, dbf)?

    1. VB is Microsoft specific and Intel platform limited. With the new release of .NET, ALL VB applications will have to be re-tooled.
    2. VB is client/server technology which is outdated and provides limited scalability.
    3. SQL Server is a "plain" database which lacks quality management and development tools (in essence a bigger "MS Access"). Why not use Oracle and take advantage of the most robust DB on the market (I believe the statistic is 80% of all e-commerce companies run Oracle). I'm guessing less than 5% run SQL Server.
    4. You can develop using ODBC if you'd like. Again, ODBC is Microsoft's implementation and is not 100% transparent on any platform.
    5. Migrate to a n-tiered platform. It'll make your life a lot easier and you'll still have integration with any platform.

  • Fill or swatch that makes layers underneath transparent?

I'm working on a vector with Illustrator CS3, and soon I'm planning to have many of the elements animate. What I'm looking for is a swatch or something that I can fill a shape with that will occlude everything on every layer underneath that shape.
To explain further, let's say I have (in ascending order) two layers. Layer 1 is filled entirely with yellow. Layer 2 has a shape of a circle with a black stroke and no fill. Since it has no fill, the yellow can be seen through the inside of the circle. What I want to do is turn the circle into something akin to a window or an X-ray device by using something (what it is, I'm not sure) that, if I fill the circle with it, will let me see through the yellow on Layer 1. And I want to be able to do this without permanently or "physically" altering Layer 1 (such as selecting the innards of the circle, switching to Layer 1, and deleting the selection), so that I can move the circle around and it will remain occluding the objects underneath.
Does such a thing exist? Or are there any effective alternatives that I can use? If so, I'd be most grateful for your advice.

    Nicholas,
It is unclear from your description what you want the scope of the cutaway effect to be.
If your entire file consists of those two layers, then there is nothing below the yellow on Layer 1, so what would it mean to "see through" the yellow?
On the other hand, if there is something below the yellow on Layer 1, then you would need some way to limit the scope of the "x-ray lens" circle so that it didn't cutaway the entire file down to the bottom.
So let's assume that what you want is a circle that will cut away (or knockout) everything below it in the same layer (where the "same layer" may contain other sublayers.) In your example, both the circle and the yellow square would be in the same layer.
To get this effect, you would open the Layers panel, and click on the target circle for that layer. Then open the Transparency panel, and turn on the "Knockout Group" checkbox. This option means that all objects with reduced opacity in that layer fully knock out everything below them in the same layer. (The objects keep whatever transparency they have with respect to objects outside that layer.)
Then select the circle, and give it any fill color, e.g., white. Then go to the Transparency panel, and reduce the Opacity of that circle to 0%. It will then knock out the objects below it in the same layer, and since it is fully transparent, it will otherwise seem invisible. (Since white and invisible look the same if there is nothing below them, it might make it more apparent what is going on if you fill the circle with a color like red and give it 10% opacity.)
To better observe the knockout behavior, you will want to have another layer below that layer with some stuff that you can see through the circle as it moves around.
You can save the 100% transparent white fill as a style in the Graphic Styles panel, but you would need to separately turn on the Knockout Group attribute of the layer or group that contains the knockout objects. (Swatches cannot contain both color and transparency, but graphic styles can.)
This feature has been available ever since AI 9, when transparency was first introduced.
It also works with groups instead of layers, I just described it with layers since that's the way your query was posed.

  • Transparent buttons in Encore CS4?

    Hi there.
I'm just starting with Encore CS4, so I don't know too much about it. I want to create a menu button that is invisible, but when I select it, it becomes visible. To show you what I'm trying to do, I made a screenshot:
    http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/6621/menuwd.jpg
You see those small white dots on the map. I want those to be visible at all times. And when one of them is selected, I want the white circle to appear (hence it should be there, but set to 100% transparency as long as it is not selected). Also, a small text should appear when the button is selected.
I found options to make the layers visible or invisible, but I didn't manage to find an option in which I can make the layers visible again when they're being selected.
Any hints on how to achieve this?

    Mr.D,
    1) If you want to create a button that is transparent you can create it in photoshop easiest. In Encore, if your asset/layer/button isn't already a button, right click on your asset/layer/button/and click "convert to button" . Once that is done, right click somewhere on your menu and click edit in photoshop.
    2) In Photoshop the layers will be in grouped folders. Locate your button/layer there and then duplicate the layer that you are trying to make transparent.
    3) Rename your button layers to read like this: "Name of button (=1)" and "Layer 1 copy" . And turn both of the layers off (Click the eye feature next to the layer so that they are not seen anymore) This will make your button invisible/transparent. When you save the project in photoshop the feature should carry over to encore.
Once this is done when you mouse over the area where the button is it should highlight with the same shape as your button is and act like a rollover button on the web.
    Hope this helps!

  • Gradients foreground color to transparent

CS4, using gradient tool on toolbar
Obviously, I'm not understanding something, or I'm doing something wrong. What is it?
    Here's what I did:
Create one layer and fill it with black.
Create a second layer above black layer and select it. Open gradient tool.
The gradient tool has the 4 blocks, two at each end. I use the lower left block to set the color to blue, and I leave the block above it to 100% opacity.
I use the lower right hand block and set the color to white. I set the opacity to 0 in the upper right hand block.
I draw the gradient on the new layer. I'm execting to see a blue gradient that fades to black, but rather it fade to white.
    Why is this?
More importantly, what do I have to do to get the gradient to fade from blue to 100% transparency to reveal the color of the lower layer (black in this case).
    TIA.

I now have the pixel transparent gradient working. Utlimately, it was user error, though
I think the design leaves a bit to be desired.
The problem was, I had not notice the checkbox for "Transparency" on the gradient's option panel. It was not checked. As soon as I checked it, I was able to drop transparent gradients on the transparent layer and they worked as expected. Personally, I would think if one designed a gradient with 0% opacity at one end, that should be enough to have a foreground color to transparent gradient. Don't know why there's the second step.
    But, all is good.
    Thanks for your assistance.

  • Restoring opacity to transparent areas?

    Hi all.
Is there a way to restore lost opacity to a layer? Let's say I have a semi-transparent area, and want to bring the opacity there back to 100%.
    Thanks. :)

If by "hard erase" you mean a 100% transparency erase, where there is no trace of the original pixels remaining, then yeah... As John Nielsen mentioned, these "hard erases" destroy the pixel color information, so you can't bring them back (unless you fake it via Snapshots or History or something, as you mentioned).
But what I need is a way to paint back lost transparency in images (such as PSD's, which are what I work with mostly) without having to rely on History, etc, since I may close and reopen later.
A typical example would be some photo that I'm working on, which I save and re-open, then say, "Hey, wait a minute... I don't like the cut around this person's hair. I need to restore some lost transparency here." So, if it's not a "hard erase", I can either select it and do Layer Via Copy a bunch of times, then Merge Visible, or fake it with Snapshots (if I still have a good one - I usually crop somewhere along the line, so that throws things off a bit).
It would just be a whole ton easier if there was a way to "paint" the transparency back on, like you can when using divine Layer Masks.

  • Appending alpha transparency swatches to a CLUT

I have a 160 swatch color table I generated in PS and I'd
like to append some alpha transparency values to it for PNG8
    processing.
In Fireworks CS4 I've loaded up a test image, successfully
loaded in the .act file I exported from PS and then selected 'Alpha
Transparency' from the trns pulldown menu. Briefly some new
swatches show up in the swatch palette, but then they disappear.
I've tried everything I can think of. If there was a way to
manually add and edit the transparency swatches to the act that
would be ideal, but when I try to add swatches to the table I don't
see any way to edit the transparency value, only RGB/HEX etc.. I'm
    somewhat stuck at the moment.
Is there a way to do this? Maybe even some sort of
    independent color table editor?
It's important that I have exact control over the CLUT file
used as the device that the images will be running on can only have
one CLUT active at any time, and all of the images in the UI need
to be built to reference this single table.
Another tangental issue I've encountered is that the PNG8
alpha transparency in FW seems to be restricting itself for some
reason. For example, I've created a 256 pixel wide image in PS with
a black ramp that goes from 100% opaque to 100% transparent across
x-axis. I open this in FW, select PNG8, adaptive, 256 colors, alpha
transparency and I only get 16 swatches (4bit?), completely
faceting my ramp - however I've seen others online getting 8bit
values of transparency using this same method...
    For example
    Here
    and
    Here
Any and all feedback much appreciated.
