[solved] Conky - display GPU freq?

I want to get conky to display a "Current Clocks (core)" value of this command:
$ aticonfig --od-getclocks
Default Adapter - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650
Core (MHz) Memory (MHz)
Current Clocks : 110 405
Current Peak : 600 700
Configurable Peak Range : [300-600] [700-700]
GPU load : 0%
Ideally, I would also like to have it show Current Memory, but because of the layout of the output, I have no idea how do do it.
I tried something like that:
${color pueple}${execi 60 aticonfig --od-getclocks | perl -ne 'print $1 if /Current*?: (\d+)./;'} MHz$voffset
but it displays nothing.

Good point. But apparently Conky can't spell either because it displays the value in purple...
2ManyDogs wrote:
Does this command in a terminal correctly display what you'd like to see in conky?
aticonfig --od-getclocks | perl -ne 'print $1 if /Current*?: (\d+)./;'
If it does not, that's where I'd start -- construct the correct command and only then try adding it to conky.
It doesn't. But that's the best I could come up with. I don't know how this works so I tried copying my old nvidia setup.

There are all kinds of ways to parse that output to get the values you want, including the memory. There are also other ways to get the GPU frequency. What is the output of
cat /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/radeon_pm_info

    Conky isn't subtracting the cached memory, is there a subtraction function?
    "${mem} - ${cached}"
    displays:
    "1.11Gib - 770.53Mib"
    Is there anyway to show just the value of the actual ram being used?
    $mem just displays the 1.11gib

  • [SOLVED] No display during boot

    Sometimes after the reboot my laptop looses display between the messages "Booting the kernel" and "Running early hook (udev)". This happens in 98% cases of reboot. Even if I shutdown the computer and start again, it won't start; I've to keep the laptop shutdown for 5-10 min then my laptop starts nicely. When the computer looses display GPU fans speed begins too increase.

    Your problem is the Own_window_type option being 'override', I believe. Set that to 'desktop' and hopefully you'll be good to go. (if not, I can post my .conkyrc here, which works fine in openbox and you can copy the relevant parts of it out)

  • [SOLVED] Conky Not Displaying Unicode Characters Correctly

    I have some music that requires unicode characters in order to be displayed properly. The artist name is Röyksopp, but it is displayed like this:
    http://i.imgur.com/rRBDxZn.png
    Does anyone know how to either make it display correctly (Röyksopp), or at least remove the umlauts to make it almost correct(Royksopp)? I've set the locale, so it displays correctly in both i3bar and urxvt, but it had no effect on conky.
    EDIT: Here is my conkyrc.

    Also, I tried "override_utf8_locale yes" and it still was incorrect.

    The time code was originally {time %B %d. %Y | %I:%M:%S} I expanded it to see if it might have been the issue.  It wasn't, so in the course of writing this post, I swapped it back.
    Tint2 doesn't have this issue, but I feel that the time off to the side disrupts the look of the bar. I haven't tinkered with it enough to put the time in the center, between the two desktop bars, if it is even possible.
    Ok.. I just double checked myself to make sure that tint2 wasn't displaying incorrectly, and it is, so this is something other than just conky. Hmm... I did just reset my locale, maybe a restart would help. (That sounds like typical Windows advice!)
    I will report back after the reboot.
    BRB
    Update:
    Restart did not fix the issue. I do find this a little strange that my clock is telling me that I am sitting in the center of the Atlantic Ocean, and I have no way of resetting it.
    Ok...   easiest  solve ever. I feel like an idiot.

    Hmm. This could be a good thing. What does Conky say about the Dow Jones Industrial Average three hours from now? And I'd like to check back with you on Superbowl Sunday, if I may....
    Dow 1.53% down.  I am sure the Superbowl's scores will be coming in on schedule.
    Thanks for the note about time sync'ing. I may just do that.

  • (SOLVED) Conky and battery status

    How come this will not work on my system:
    ${color red}$alignc Battery Information
    ${color lightgrey} Currently: $battery
    ${color lightgrey}$stippled_hr
    I have tried a dozen scripts for battery status and nothing works. Does anyone have a sure fire way to get some status from my battery?
    I am using a netbook, pretty standard stuff. I don't know why it won't work. I tried other commands and one returned "U" for unknown battery status and what not. How can I find out what is going on?
    edit:
    Battery: ${battery_percent BAT0}% ${alignr}${battery_bar 8,70 BAT0}
    This displays 0% and an empty bar.
    I went ahead into /proc/acpi/battery and found BAT1 and no BAT0, so I changed the script and I get a percent now...
    This may be solved, but I am going to try the other functions to see if I can get the output I wanted in the first place.
    Why does Conky hate batteries?
    Last edited by Google (2010-07-02 07:16:26)

    "$battery" does not work because it assumes as default BAT0, which you don't have so it will have to be "$battery BAT1". See "man conky" for more info....

    Thanks to some further input from the guys over at Archbang and some further research I found the solution (a) to remove the weird 'A' character;
    http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … ut-solved/
    So, in conky I had to change;
    override_utf8_locale no
    to
    override_utf8_locale yes
    And (b) just for reference, I now have two options for cpu temp;
    CPU temp option1:$alignr${hwmon 4 temp 1}°C
    CPU temp option2:$alignr${execi 10 sensors | grep ^temp1 | tail -n 1 |awk '{print $2}'}
    Thanks for all the help everybody.

  • [SOLVED] Conky troubles with Gnome

    I don't know if I am making some obvious, easily correctable mistake, or if this is a known bug. I have looked on the wiki and all I could find about Conky on Gnome was a short little thing that caused this problem:

    Thats because you keep exhibiting the same behaviours, despite being asked not to.
    I'll link you (again) to the Forum Etiquette. Please read all of it.
    Don't expect that help vampirism will be tolerated here, it won't.
    I'll also remind you of the Arch Way
    This user-centric design necessarily implies a certain "do-it-yourself" approach to using the Arch distribution. Rather than pursuing assistance or requesting a new feature to be implemented by developers, Arch Linux users have a tendency to solve problems themselves and generously share the results with the community and development team – a "do first, then ask" philosophy.

  • [SOLVED] Conky: After 2.6.37 update, conky no longer shows temperature

    Well, the title is quite self-explanatory but I'd also like to add that:
    I noticed that conky reads correct values and after exactly 3 refreshes it just displays 0, no matter how long is the update interval.
    /sys/class/hwmon displays correct values, and 'acpi -t' also does too (they are always the same).
    My conky config had $acpitemp before the update, and after the update I had to change it to ${hwmon 0 temp 1} because $acpitemp displayed no values whatsoever.

    My final conclusion is that the problem is with conky itself, but this guy here managed to get it working:

    EDIT: After posting here I thought "why don't I take out all these X related options?" and finally did it after so much time. And it worked, but I dunno why.

  • [SOLVED] i915: no gpu acceleration with 3.18.0

    Hi,
    I compiled the new vanilla kernel using the same .config as the previous one (also self compiled), but with 3.18 intel gpu accleration fails to start. Xorg.bin log says "Failed to submit rendering commands, disabling acceleration". As a result Gnome is painfully choppy and watching a video is impossible. This happens on both my first gen i7 laptop and Core2 desktop, so Ironlake and Earlake.
    Another machine with a nvidia card and proprietary modules compiled with dkms seems unaffected.

  • [Solved]Conky and word wrapping - Is there a way?

    So I have a very limited area to work with, something like 176x360 (+/- a few pixels), and I want the ability to show an RSS feed. Well, the feed works of course, but due to the limited width, I'm in great need of word wrapping, and for that problem I have found no solution and going on for 2-3 hours straight, my head hurts
    Anyway, here's my .conkyrc, not that it's needed of course.
    # ~/.conkyrc

    I know this looks confusing and probably is full of critical error, but that simple because I'm a conky noob. I basically just downloaded a profile I liked and completely changed it over the course of a few hours.
    Anyway, I'm rambling again, but if you've got any idea's, please do let me know.
    Best regards.

    Okay, so I've found sort of a solution to part of the problem, so what I have so far look like this:
    wget -quiet -O - archlinux.org/feeds/news/ | fmt -w 25 -g 25
    It works as long as there are no words longer than 25 character, which I should think is rare, even including package names and such.
    However there's still the issue parsing the xml so I get only what I want:
    <item><title>$content</title><link>
    This may be solved using some sort of terminal rss parser, but I would rather prefer not to.
    Then there's the issue with reloading.
    My current conky is set to reload every second, but of course one can't just pull the feed every second and I'm not convinced that conky has any built in solution for that problem. Of course I can always start a cronjob and save it all to a file, but portability would be nice.
    anyway, I'll return later.

  • [SOLVED] Conky, Gmail, and STDOUT Question

    I currently have Conky working with a script to check my gmail (gmail.pl).  It works as intended in conky, but it saves all the output from the script to STDOUT.  This isn't a problem until I log out of openbox and my screen is filled with these things:
    --2008-10-03 09:28:50-- https://<username>:*password*@mail.google.com/mail/feed/atom
    Resolving mail.google.com... 209.85.147.83, 209.85.147.19, 209.85.147.18
    Connecting to mail.google.com|209.85.147.83|:443... connected.
    HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 401 Unauthorized
    Connecting to mail.google.com|209.85.147.83|:443... connected.
    HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK
    Length: unspecified [text/xml]
    Saving to: `STDOUT'
    [ <=> ] 1,005 --.-K/s in 0s
    2008-10-03 09:28:51 (244 MB/s) - `-' saved [1005]
    It's not really a problem as much as an annoyance I guess.
    What I THINK I would like to do is pipe the output to /dev/null?  Or save it to /dev/null?  I am just not sure how to do this.  I went through the script itself and couldn't figure it out.  Any ideas?  Here is the script:
    #!/usr/bin/perl

    use Text::Wrap;

    The fix was to change conky from:
    ${execi 60 perl ~/scripts/gmail.pl n}
    To:
    ${execi 60 perl ~/scripts/gmail.pl n 2>/dev/null}
    (Added 2>/dev/null, sending the error messages to /dev/null.)

  • [Solved] Site display issues in Firefox 11.0-2/KDE 4.8.1

    I have been having issues with the form fields of the AUR page. Specifically, with any version of Firefox after v9; the fields are incredibly small. (See http://imgur.com/KEdYk for what it looks like). I have removed gtk-kde4, and even created a vanilla user with a brand-new home directory, and this other user profile experiences the same problem. edit: In a fresh install of GNOME 3, the AUR page displays correctly. Also displays correctly if I revert to FF v9
    This problem doesn't occur in Chromium, so I thought it was a FF issue, however, I've not heard of anybody else with this same problem... So I'm a little stumped. I filed a bug report a while back, (https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/28613 ), but it has been closed. Any help in diagnosing and/or fixing this issue would be helpful and appreciated. Thanks!

    That is sounding quite strange.  I've had display issues similar to yours with login fields and search fields that are usually at the top of a we page appearing distorted and on top of each other.  Another prevalent problem that I noticed on YouTube was that text I enter into any field doesn't show up, but it is entered and I can search.  I'm running xfce so I don't know what to say.  Haven't had the problem in gnome, though I really don't like gnome 3 for its lack of what of what I considered organizational hierarchy.  (though I am against hierarchies of other sorts),  Ive also found that clearing the Firefox cache can solve some of these problems.
