[Solved] Failed to install package

The package in case is Steam .
I'm running Arch Linux on a 64bit system. Therefore I have multilib enabled in my pacman.conf

I found some other cases of this, but it was from people not having multilib enabled.
Also tried runnning pacman -Syyu. Didn't work.
And yes, the package name is correct.
Thanks in advance for your answers.

Damn, you're right.
I thought only the Include= line was needed, didn't even realize multilib didn't pop up during pacman -Sy.
Sorry guys!

  • [SOLVED] Unable to install packages in lxc container

tl;dr: lxc-console should be used for logging in, not lxc-attach. Also, I had to do some additional work to get the tty to work in systemd, and I plan to update the wiki soon.
I created a container using the following command:
    # lxc-create -n test -t archlinux
Once created and configured, I started the container daemonized, and attached:
    # lxc-start -n test -d
    # lxc-attach --clear-env -n test -- su - root
However, I am unable to install any software packages because GPG isn't working properly

Has anyone else experienced this? I've searched the web for solutions to the GPG error, and most of them relate to GPG not working in a chroot because the right things don't exist in /dev. However, I was under the impression that lxc.autodev=1 would take care of this, and indeed /dev/pts, etc. all exist in the container.

    Try
    # pacman-key --refresh-keys

I just did this, and the command succeeded:
gpg: refreshing 75 keys from hkp://pool.sks-keyservers.net
gpg: requesting key 5263801D from hkp server pool.sks-keyservers.net

    ... snip ...
    gpg: Total number processed: 74
    gpg: unchanged: 74
    However, the installation still failed.
I was able to get pacman to install openssh by turning off signature verification. I then ssh'ed into the container, turned signature verification back on, and was able to install other packages just fine.
So the issue seems to be with how lxc-attach connects to the container. A temporary solution would be:
Add openssh to the list of packages installed when running lxc-create.
    # lxc-create -n test -t archlinux -- -P vim,openssh
Attach to the container and run systemctl enable sshd.service, and set a root password
Detach, then ssh into container and go about your business.
However, I'd rather have the option of not using sshd on the container, and still be able to install packages, so I don't necessarily consider this problem solved yet.
Can anyone shed some light on what I might be doing wrong when I attach to the container?

Here once again a failed attempt after removing pacman-color. I am beginning to think that maybe running yaourt as sudo is probably a bad idea. I think that may have had something to do with it.

Quite confusing statements. Below sHyLoCk recommends http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=37738 on June 2 2010 and on June 27 he declares his recommended package obsolet and ask a TU to delete! The problem with the sHyLoCk package is there is not page setup option. So I installed this package, it has got the page setup menu, but once I click the option, the application dies with the following output (Maybe helpful to debug for the maintainer, I am not an expert):

  • [SOLVED] Failed to install override security policy

    Hi,
I am trying to install Arch linux in UEFI in a dual boot setup with Windows 8.1. I already have the Windows OS installed, but every time I go to boot from the Arch installation CD I made using the latest .iso download (2013.12.01), I get the following:
    ERROR
Failed to install override security policy: (14) not found
I hit return on the "OK", (the only available option), and the error reappears once again. After I hit return for a second time, the installation quits and I am returned to a normal Windows boot. This error happens right at the very start, I literally tell my computer to boot from the CD drive and then straight away the error appears.
I have tried the solution suggested here:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=169354
(i.e. replacing the bootx64.efi with the loader.efi file (but renamed of course), in the EFI/BOOT/ directory of the iso), and I have tried using other versions of the iso (specifically 2013.10.01) as well as re downloading and re burning the most recent iso. All of these have been to no avail.
I am running an ASUS Sabbertooth 990FX (Rev 1.01), which I know to be an UEFI board. Also, I was able to install Windows 8.1 in UEFI just fine.
Any thoughts about what the problem may be?
PS: Merry Christmas to you all!
    -Ryan
    --- SOLUTION ---
Download the Arch Linux variant of rEFInd, from http://www.rodsbooks.com/refind/getting.html. Then, install as per the instructions for you particular operating system and needs; follow the following: http://www.rodsbooks.com/refind/installing.html.
Reboot. Next time your computer starts, after the POST is completed, instead of booting into your normal operating system/boot loader, rEFInd should load instead. It will search for bootable media and operating systems automatically, and present you with a list of options. Choose the one corresponding to your CD/DVD/flash drive (depending on your installation medium). It should then boot in UEFI.
Once you are prompted with a command shell, type the commands:
    # mount -t efivarfs efivarfs /sys/firmware/efi/efivars # ignore if already mounted
    # efivar -l
If a list of variables is displayed, then you know you have succeeded in booting the installation media in UEFI!
    Hope this helps some people...

Lone_Wolf wrote:Buckeye, Machione did you try disabling secure boot ?
    Thanks for the response Lone_Wolf.
I had a good old rummage through the "UEFI BIOS setup" for my motherboard (ASUS Sabertooth 990FX rev 1.01), and found no option to either disable nor enable Secure Boot, which I found rather odd, so I did some searching online and found this quote:
"I've recently bought an ASUS Sabertooth 990FX, which is a uefi
    motherboard.
    Secure boot cannot be ENabled."
    from: http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.mageia.user/8143
Intrigued, I then done some more searching, and came to opening up Windows System Information, to see if I had Secure Boot enabled or not already. The result (as shown in the below screenshot), is that Secure Boot is "Unsupported", which means that my "PC does not support Secure Boot or is a Legacy (BIOS) installed Windows". Since I am running Windows already in UEFI, this means that my motherboard indeed does not support Secure Boot, and hence there is no need for me to disable it.
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/3to4x7pcxctzz … enshot.jpg
I will send a quick email to ASUS to confirm this finding, but it certainly seems like Secure Boot is not an option that I have, and hence I have no need to disable it in the first place.
    Thanks anyway for the response,
    -Ryan

  • Failed to install packages correctly

    Hi,
duringf my latest upgrade, (on x86_64) I had a strange problem: for almost all packages, pacman wrote:
error: command failed to execute correctly
Directly after that, my system became unusable, because every command returned: "Too many levels of symbolic links".
I had to force power off, reboot did of course not work. A fsck on the root partition from a live cd showed some errors on the jfs file system, but it could be recovered, at least it is in a stable state again.
I mounted it and made a backup. Then I noticed dead symlinks on the partition.
I created a new ext4 fs on the partition and restored the backup. But I still can't chroot into the system because chroot cannot execute bash, still too many levels of symbolic links.
I can at least use pacman with the -r option to list the packages. I tried pacman -S base -r /oldroot , but I still get the same error (error: command failed to execute correctly).
Any further advices? Or the fastest way to reinstall the system?

    Thanks Pavel.
I have all patches installed on my servers that described in Solaris[TM] Live Upgrade Software: Minimum Patch Requirements
    https://support.us.oracle.com/oip/faces/secure/km/DocumentDisplay.jspx?id=1004881.1
Is 10_sparc_lustarter_patchset.zip can be download in MOS? I searched in Patches and Updates but can't find it. Can you send me the link or internal NFS location of the 10_sparc_lustarter_patchset.zip file?
    Thanks
    Tiffany

  • [Solved]Error with installing package: /usr/lib64 exists in filesystem

So i know there are other posts about this and i have read them and I have also read the wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/De … _in_.2Flib and also this forum post https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=156942
the error i get when trying to install a package from the AUR
error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
    hp-health: /usr/lib64 exists in filesystem
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.
I tried to find who owned the files/package in the /lib by the following commands
    $ grep '^lib/' /var/lib/pacman/local/*/files
    $ find /lib -exec pacman -Qo -- {} +
    the output was
/lib is owned by filesystem 2015.02-1
Im confused what to do at this point as the wiki that I linked above says
If any package apart from glibc is listed as owning a file, that package needs to be updated to install its files in /usr/lib
Last edited by PigsInSpace (2015-03-01 02:25:24)

You are following directions for a file conflict with /lib for a very specific one-time manual intervention, but you don't have that file conflict according to the error message you posted and it is not for that intervention.  See this instead: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pa … 9.22_error then report the error on the aur page for that package.
    This fixes it:
    package() {
    cd "$srcdir"
    + mv usr/lib64 usr/lib
cp -a opt usr var "$pkgdir"

  • [SOLVED]Error during "Install packages"

Was really hoping it'd be a long time before I had to come here for help (my first Linux install), but...
I'm having trouble with the installation. The first clue is when I'm preparing the hard drive:
After manually configuring the block devices, filesystems and mountpoints, there's a "Mount" window saying "Error mounting /dev/sdb4 on /mnt/home", likewise for var and /, but otherwise completes successfully.
Then, during package installation, every single package fails:
e.g. "warning: warning given when extracting usr/share/zoneinfo/GMTO (Can't create '/mnt/usr......')"
.... (other files unsuccessfully being extracted)
    Installation failed
and so on for the rest of the packages.
My source is the official 2011.08 core image on a flash drive (/dev/sda1/) writing to an external hdd (/dev/sdb1, etc). I've searched the forums and the wiki and google but haven't been able to figure it out. Somehow the partitions aren't accessible to pacman, perhaps?
Hopefully I'm not missing something really obvious...

  • [SOLVED]Find Name Installed Packages Draftsight

Occasionally I run in to a program installed from AUR or from the repository that has a name different than the package name. Is there a way to easily see what the name of the package is? Today I installed draftsight, and I can't figure out how to launch it from the terminal. Thanks
    Last edited by duke11235 (2013-01-05 02:12:13)

Thanks that got it. If you add
/opt/dassault-systemes/draftsight/bin to your path by adding
    export PATH=$PATH:/opt/dassault-systemes/draftsight/bin
to your .bashrc, it runs by typing draftsigh in the terminal. Thanks again.

  • [SOLVED]How to install packages with the -U option? PGP error.

I have to downgrade some packages (linux package due to ath5k problem), but pacman won't allow me because of the signatures.
I downloaded the packages i need from here http://schlunix.org/archlinux/.
These packages are safe to install? How can i bypass the signature check, if these packages are safe to install?
    Thanks.
Last edited by Hyugga (2012-04-19 19:46:23)

If you have a pgp key, you can sign the packages with your own key. You can do this by editing /etc/makepkg.conf, adding your key to the  GPGKEY="" section and enabling the sign option in the BUILDENV section. When building the package, it'll then be signed with your personal key. Afterwards import your key in pacman (pacman-key -r <yourkey>), assign the proper trust level and you're good to go.
A workaround is to temporarily set "SigLevel = Never" in your /etc/pacman.conf (and hence disabling keysigning).
EDIT: I just bothered to actually check your link and you'll be installing prebuilt binaries, so my first explanation doesn't apply there (you won't be building anything). So just setting SigLevel to Optional or Never (temporarily) should do.

  • [SOLVED]Trying to install package-query again. Cannot find PKGBUILD.

I'm updating my arch after 4 months. Yes it has been a long time.
During the update process I had to remove package-query and yaourt, and now I'm trying to get them back.
    I got package-query from here https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=35915
Untared it, went inside, and did makepkg -s, but the PKGBUILD could not be found. I looked through the directories and didn't see a PKGBUILD anywhere.
    Am I missing something?

Did you click the 'Download Tarbel' link on the right side of the page? (Correct choice)
Or the link under the Sources Bar ? (Incorrect choice)

  • [SOLVED]Problems when installing - DHCP and Pacman

    Hello Arch Linux Forums,
I'm kind of new here and I'm switching from Debian, so excuse me if this question is noobish.
I've been trying to install Arch Linux for three days now, and the installation always screws up at either Select Source, Select Packages or Install Packages. It changes every time I try.
On Select Source - Failed to run dhcpcd. Check /dev/tty7 for errors.
On Select Packages - Pacman preparation failed! Check /dev/tty7 for errors.
On Install Packages - Installs a few packages, and then after a few packages download I get "No address record" on everything else.
Can someone point me in the right direction on what to do?
    Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I tried to install today, worked fine. Did nothing different. Thanks anyway guys!

Mr.Elendig wrote:Check /dev/tty7 for errors and post them here in code tags.
I tried the installation again and it failed at install packages. Here's the only line in /dev/tty7 that I think is related to it.
[DEBUG_UI] Package installation failed, check below for errors
I don't have it on right now, but it said something to that effect. It says that on the installer as well, although the only other thing it gives is the No address record error mentioned in the OP.

  • [SOLVED] systemd services load slow/fail after forcing package install

This is more of a PSA for those coming across this issue in the future. I think people should do more of these.
I recently had problems installing packages where pacman told me several files already existed in the filesystem. This happened when I tried to install an individual official package, not a full system upgrade, so I couldn't find any relevant posts.
I tried to --force install the package, thereby rewriting all such files. But I noticed the next time I rebooted and logged into my system, my Cinnamon session would load extremely slowly (~2 mins) and I had several failed services.
    Symptoms of the problem included:
    - non-root partitions not mounted on boot
    - users and groups added after initial system install were gone (including sudo)
    - difficulty connecting to networks
    - trying to start/restart services resulted in a Polkit-related error and a timeout
So after a while I found this post: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=151915
It suggested that the polkit-related user and group were missing and I should check my /var/log/pacman.log around the time of my force installation, which I did. This revealed pacman overwrote several files in /etc including fstab, hosts, passwd, shadow and group.
Luckily pacman backed up all those files under the suffix *.pacorig so I by renaming the backups and rebooting I was thankfully able to return my system to normal.

I have another example of rc.local which is mainly about configuring power saving etc etc on a netbook
    hdparm -B254 /dev/sda

what is the systemd way of doing this sort of thing?
Also where should local units be put so that they can be enabled/disabled etc. If I put them in /usr/lib/systemd/system won't they interfere with pacman?

  • SOLVED: makepkg fails at signing package

    Hi all,
I'm trying to build a package from AUR but makepkg fails to sign the package.
I receive the following message: "==> WARNING: Failed to sign package file." and nothing else.
I have, as far as i can tell, installed all the necessary keys (pacman-key --recv-key and pacman-key --lsign). I even tried to completely reset the keyring  (remove of /etc/pacman.d/gnupg, pacman-key --init, ...) but it does not solve my problem.
I can see the key when issuing pacman-key -l.
Any idea is welcome cause I'm completely loss right now and I fear becoming nuts...

    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/De … g_Packages
That should explain everything you need to sign packages
To sign packages you need your own key, what comes with pacman is the developers' keys for the packages in the repos
