[SOLVED] FTP installation in a wifi environment?

Hello,
How do I install arch ftp in a wireless network environment?
Last edited by Don-DiZzLe (2008-05-01 18:24:26)

I managed to connect to my ap and enter the right essid and key:
iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
wmaster0 no wireless extensions.
wlan0 IEEE 802.11g ESSID:"tip"
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.462 GHz Access Point: 00:1B:FC:BE:28:E9
Bit Rate=1 Mb/s Tx-Power=27 dBm
Retry min limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr=2352 B
Link Quality=60/100 Signal level=-68 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
however dhcpcd wlano -t 60 still has no effect.
The wifi nic is a sitecom card with a rt61 module ->  Network controller: RaLink module: rt61pci PHYSDEVrt61pci RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI
Maybe I should get me a new wifi nic, any recommendations for an excellent wifi nic that works great with Linux?

  • IPhone6 network connection issue under WIFI environement

At first, my iphone can successfully connect to the company's Wifi, surfing the internet through Safari without any problem.
But here comes the strange thing. If I don't use my iphone for about one hour, then I cannot surf anything through Safari. The error message says "Safari could not open the page because the server stop responding". All other APP cannot get data either. Even I turn off the wifi and use my 3G network, still the same issue.
Now, the work-around is to reset the network settings or reboot my iphone, but I am looking for the root cause of this problem and solution to solve this. A solution is to modify the configuration, not to reboot iphone,
Anyone can tell me what the root cause is and how to solve it forever? Thanks a million in advance

Did you contact O2 to see if there are local network issues or if you're not in a coverage area?
    Try:
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
Settings > General >Reset > Reset All Settings
    Replace the SIM card
Restore in iTunes from a backup
    Restore as a new iPhone

Thanks for the reply. Still I am not clear on how to use the STM tools in my scenario. I had issues with the domain installation with distributed in a cluster. Working with SAP and got a reply today saying that SAPINST will be modified.

  • FTP Adapter in clustered/HA environment

We are deploying a clustered environment and are noticing that the FTP adapter seems to be running in both servers.
I deployed a listening channel using the VIP connection. It activated the FTP channel on one server but the other server is giving invalid username/password.
I then log into the first server bypassing the VIP and I see that it is deployed and has the username/password populated.
I then log onto the second server bypassing the VIP and see that the username/password is not populated.
Should this be happening? Is there something that we need to configure/setup differently?
    We are on 11.1.1.2.

Should this be happening? Is there something that we need to configure/setup differently?I don't think so however for polling transports, only one managed server of a cluster is used to avoid duplicacy but in your case you are getting an error in the other server, which I don't think, is a normal behaviour. I would suggest to contact Oracle Support for resolution.
BTW, it would be better if you may upgrade your system to PS2 (11.1.1.3) and test once again.

  • Multiple shared services installs in the same environment?

In IOP 11.1.2 and beyond, shared services handles user authentication, to take advantage of Active Directory.
Can you install EPM shared services on 2 nodes in the same environment (failover in case one goes down)?
    Is this possible or recommended?
    Thank you.

I posted this message also in the Forum: Server & Storage Systems: Administration - General : Installation.
I'll also double-check the install documentation. A quick google of "EPM Shared Services" and some choice keywords revealed a link to this:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-foundation/epm-hss-active-active-clusters-wp-1-132647.pdf
Note that one of the instructions in the active-active-clusters white paper is to install shared services on two nodes, to prevent a single point of failure.
This location http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-foundation includes EPM DR instructions.
    Highly recommended reading.
I apologize to the group for wasting the bandwidth on this question.
    Thank you.

  • [SOLVED]GStreamer installation is missing a plugin

In gnome tracker, I get the following error,
"Call to gst_discoverer_discover_uri() failed: Your GStreamer installation is missing a plug-in."
This leads to none of my files being processed by gnome extract. That leads to none of the local files are displayed in gnome documents and that application is useless now.
Any idea which plugin might be missing? How do I go about checking it?
Edit: I reinstalled gstreamer plugins (including good, bad and ugly) and that seemed to solve the issue.

  • WIFI problems solved with D-Link USB WIFI adapter...

I have a brand new Macbook Air and I have persistent problems connecting to my home wifi network. Sometimes I can connect to the router but not the internet, but usually Airport won't connect at all: it keeps asking me for the password for our home network (even though it's stored), so I re-enter the password, but it still can't connect. When it gets to this point I know that I either have to live without internet for the rest of the day, or disrupt my work and everyone else in the household by rebooting my computer and reseting the router (sometimes just one of these actions will work, but it's unpredictable).
So I bought a D-Link DWA-125 USB wireless adapter and installed drivers from Ralink (http://www.ralinktech.com/support.php?s=3) and it pretty much solves the issue.
I don't know what further proof Apple needs that this is a problem with the Air and not the internet/router/etc. It's rather comical that I have to use an ugly old USB adapter to get a brand new Macbook Air to connect to internet in my own home.

    vilayyyy wrote:
I've had my Macbook for 2 yrs and the wifi basically never worked - only when I'm right next to the router, at school, or of course the Apple Store. I tried to get apple to fix it under AppleCare, but since it was working perfectly in the store, they said there was nothing they could do.
If your Mac works well at school, or the Apple Store but not at home, the problem definetly  is not the Mac and therefore there is no need to buy a external usb wifi device.
You better will fix the settings of your home router and after that your Mac will be fast and smooth on your home wifi.
I've had only on very rare situations a problem with d-link routers over the years and think (if not damaged) even your d-link will work pretty good with your Mac.
Would you be so kind and explain the settings of your home router and what model it is?

  • JDeveloper installation on WindowsXP Multiuser environment

    Hello,
I've got a problem installing JDEveloper 10.1.3.3.0 on a WindowsXP multiuser environment.
I downloaded and extracted the archive into the C:\Programme directory (where it belongs) as admin user and I can start it without problems as long as I'm logged in as admin (despite the fact that a JDK 1.5 is already installed).
But when I try to start JDeveloper with a normal user account (without admin rights) from there I only get the splash screen progressing a little bit and nothing else happening afterwards.
So JDeveloper does not start for me within the account I want to use it with!
How can I manage to start JDeveloper for normal users on that WindowsXP system?
Does anybody have any hints on this?
    Many thanks in advance!
    Best Regards

It is recommended to unzip JDeveloper in a directory
without spaces. Windows installs all programs into
C:\Program Files, this one has a space in between. So
make sure you unzip into C:\oracle\jdeveloper or
something like that. Also make sure as admin grant
full permits to windows users, read, write and
    execute.It is, I installed it into C:\Programme\JDeveloper.
Do you mean I'll have to give these rights for normal users to the JDeveloper directory!?
This is completely contradictory to the idea behind the restricted accounts in Windows!
    Best Regards

  • 64 Bit installation, UFEI and Wifi error.

    Hello,
    First post, here goes.
    PC Spec:
    CPU: i5-3570k
    GPU: Radeon HD7870
    Mobo: Gigabyte Z77-DS3H
    Wireless card: TP-Link TL-WN7851ND (Ath9k)
    4GB RAM
128Gb Sandisk Ultra SSD (this is the drive I wish to install too)
    500gb HD
    250GB HD
First of all, i change the keyboard layout into dvorak and the font as written on the beginners guide, all goes fine.
Then, i check if i booted into UFEI or not
    # mount -t efivarfs efivarfs /sys/firmware/efi/efivars
    Returns:
Mount: mount point /sys/firmware/efi/efivars does not exist
I checked in the BIOS and it is set to UFEI and Legacy. So I switch it to UFEI only and it does not detect my USB drive or SSD.
I had previously pressed on with the install so i shall post the outcome of that too.
    Next i do
    #iw dev
    Returns:
    phy#0
            Interface wlp3s0
                    ifindex 3
                    wdev 0x1
                    addr f8:1a:67:3b:c1:a5
                    type managed
    then:
    # ip link set wlp3s0 up
    and
    # ip link show wlp3s0
Both of which go fine and i get the response i expected from the beginners guide
Here is where it all starts to fall apart:
    # dmesg | grep firmware
    Returns:
7.951220] Platform micronode: Direct firmware load failure with error -2
7.959233] Platform micronode: Direct firmware load failure with error -2
7.959579] Platform micronode: Direct firmware load failure with error -2
7.959782] Platform micronode: Direct firmware load failure with error -2
Note: These numbers are subject to change
    Still continuing with this
    # wifi-menu wlp3s0
All seems to go fine, detects my network, i can create a profile, enter my wireless password, all seems fine but no connection whatsoever.
I later continued all the way up to installing the base system with no issues, but obviously with no internet i could not download the system which is when i first noticed i was not connected.
On a slightly unrelated note, i was confused by the swap partition section on the beginners guide, is that needed, it didn't explicitly say create it, so i did not.
Thank you in advance, let me know if any information is needed, i will try and get you that.

Hello ancylla & welcome to Arch
Firstly, 4GB of RAM is probably enough to not worry about a swap partition unless you want to run a full-blown KDE setup or similar...
When you started up wifi-menu did it return any error messages after you entered the password?
Did you try the method without wifi-menu?
If your network is detected, your wireless chipset does not require firmware...
On the UEFI isssue: you need to disable the "Legacy" mode ("CSM") in order to boot in EFI mode so you can install an EFI-enabled system.
How did you get into the live environment? If the usb input is not accepted, you could use a DVD
Also: please use code tags when posting code...

  • [SOLVED] Larch Installation from LiveCD

    Hej!
Today I finally succesfully created a LiveCD from a running Arch System. Because I want to migrate my installation to another partition and of course to check out whether the livecd is functional I tried to install my customized archlinux to hdd. Using larchin for that, I get the following error message after pressing the ok button:
    This error couldn't be handled
    Traceback (most recent call last):

Having found a bug report on http://www.bugs.maryanlinux.com/showreport.php?bugid=3 and having seen it mentioned once here in the forum I don't see a fast solution for this issue. So I'm wondering if there is another way to install the system? What about the installer used for the official installation-images of archlinux? Or maybe some other trick or something I don't see?
    thanks in advance

I hope you can deal with the german pidgin inbetween, sorry.
I'm not trying to install on a fresh disk though. /dev/sda2 is the partition I want to install to.
I will mind posting future larch-questions in the above mentioned post, thanks for the hint.
    another question:
I alternatively created another livecd using the archiso scripts, which perfectly worked too. But now I'm looking for a way to modify the archlinux-installer scripts to fit my needs; that is creating config-files fitting for me (e.g. rc.conf with german locales, proper hostname, daemons etc.) and especially for installing the packages i'd like to have installed (like xorg, a desktop environment, whatever programs i like) with predefined configurations (e.g. xorg.conf, desktop-settings, firefox-extensions and so on), so that i can simply run /arch/setup from the livecd as usual but end up with a properly configured system i can start working with right away. Does perhaps anyone know of any further resources i might refer to?
thanks for your help so far

  • Did the August OS update to 4.2.2 solve the Xperia Tablet Z Wifi disconnect problem?

we are wanting to purchase 2 Experia Tablet Z's to replace our iPads that we were ever so happy to dump and are looking for new Android tablets but need to know that the OS update cured the known WiFi disconnect issue since we use WiFi in our home for our tablets and smart phones (everything else is hardwired) AND also like to tether our tablets to our smart phones when away from home.
    Opinions appreciated — thanks
    Solved!

I've got a white 32gb wifi US Tablet Z and love it.  I'm running 4.2.2 and have no issues.  None.

  • [SOLVED] NetworkManager unable to enable Wifi

Edit: Finally solved. Disabling the "acer_wmi" module did the trick.
I've been using NetworkManager on my laptop for quite some time now, and it always did a good job... until now!
And in the middle of quite a busy week as well! Damn Murphy...
I noticed there was an update for it and Archer as I am, I of course updated from networkmanager-0.8.1-1-x86_64 and network-manager-applet-0.8.1-2-x86_64, to networkmanager-0.8.2-3-x86_64 and network-manager-applet-0.8.2-2-x86_64.
When updating I got a message that filesystem permissions of /var/lib/NetworkManager we're set to 755, and the package expected 700.
Should not be a problem, but I set the permissions to 700 for good measure.
Next boot, using the new version, I was unable to get NetworkManager to engage my Wifi. "Enable Wireless" just did nothing. It's not turning on my Wifi and nm-applet is not marking it as active either, no matter how many times I click it. I also tried disabling Networking and re-enabling it all, no luck.
Reloaded nm-applet a couple of times, no dice. Restarted the networkmanager deamon as well, still nothing.
nm-applet does not produce any error messages for me to check out, only things it tells me when I kill and start it:
** Message: applet now removed from the notification area
** Message: applet now embedded in the notification area
It only talks about placing itself in the notification area, which is in working order.
My laptop is a Sony Vaio VPCY11S1E (know as Sony Vaio Y series, first model), Wifi card is an Atheros AR9285 (ath9k) and it runs up-to-date Arch x86_64. I run a hand configured -ck patched kernel and also the Arch regular kernel.
Come to think of it, I did not try the stock kernel yet, but I doubt it's the cause of the problem.
Because I reverted back to NetworkManager 0.8.1 and it's working like it always did again.
So I got working Wifi with NM 0.8.1, no working Wifi with 0.8.2.
Any pointers or insights you might have are greatly appreciated!

Oh sorry. I did do that, a bit.
I have a tail of the everything.log outputted to my desktop, and noticed NetworkManager is deactivating the Wifi (Reason 2).
I'm gonna check out what "Reason 2" might mean, and i'll see if I can post a nice snippet of the log here...

    And that's where it ends.
What jumps out is: "Nov 23 15:01:03 localhost NetworkManager[7888]: <info> WiFi disabled by radio killswitch; enabled by state file"
Which is incorrect, the switch is ON. I also tried switching it OFF and ON again (IT Crowd! ). No effect.
I also see it's seeing multiple killswitches, where I only have one. But that's not the real problem here.
Somehow NM 0.8.2 is thinking my Wifi killswitch is turned off when it isn't.
To see if NM 0.8.1 does anything different, I checked out it's log, which looks like this:

It's doing the exact same thing as NM 0.8.2 is it not?
Only it does bring up the interface by trying again by the looks of it.
Note the following behaviour of 0.8.1:
    Nov 23 15:03:49 localhost NetworkManager[8714]: <info> (wlan0): exported as /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Devices/1
    Nov 23 15:03:49 localhost NetworkManager[8714]: <info> (wlan0): now managed
    Nov 23 15:03:49 localhost NetworkManager[8714]: <info> (wlan0): device state change: 1 -> 2 (reason 2)
    Nov 23 15:03:49 localhost NetworkManager[8714]: <info> (wlan0): bringing up device.
    Nov 23 15:03:49 localhost NetworkManager[8714]: <info> (wlan0): deactivating device (reason: 2).
    Nov 23 15:03:54 localhost NetworkManager[8714]: <info> (wlan0): bringing up device.
    Nov 23 15:03:54 localhost NetworkManager[8714]: <info> (wlan0): supplicant interface state: starting -> ready
NM 0.8.2 stops after the message "deactivating the device (reason: 2)."
