[Solved] [Gnome 3.4.1] Gnome shell not working.

After updating Gnome, it won't start. It is a bit weird because in xsession-errors I have this:
/usr/bin/gnome-shell: error while loading shared libraries: libcogl.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I said OK. I can downgrade that package because I had libcogl.so.9. But after downgrading it wasn't working and in log was:
/usr/bin/gnome-shell: error while loading shared libraries: libcogl.so.9: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I really don't know what to do. Btw Arch X86_64.

I installed mutter from repositories and after that, I've got "Uups. Somthing is wrong!" screen.

  • [solved] Gnome 3.14.2 Modal dialogs not working

    Hi,
    updated today and found out that the modal password prompts in Gnome 3 do not work anymore. Does anybody know anything about this?
    I´m experiencing following behaviour:
    Whenever a gnome modal dialog with an input field appears the dialog will freeze after submitting the data. The only action left to click is the cancel action (or the escape key) which of course also cancels the data submission and also cancels the data submission the process.
    I would love to debug this, unfortunately Google hasn´t provided anything useful yet...

    Ok, so apparently the Modal dialog not working was based on gdk-pixbuf2 dhaving wrong caches or something.
    When consulting journalctl about gnome in general I discovered that my system had lost the ability to comprehend the svg format. One ddg query later i was  here again just in another topic viewtopic.php?pid=1491839

  • [SOLVED] netbeans 7.3 pop-up menu not working

    Hi all,
    few month ago i updated my netbeans from 7.2.1 to 7.3. Then i noticed that autocompletion is not working (in c++ project with/without jvi)  and netbeans shows me warning message:

    I have not found any suitable solution by myself. As i had no time to fix that issue i moved back to older version of netbeans(that is very bad solution, but i could not wait) and added to ignorepkg. Now i want to solve this problem. Can anyone help me?
    PS. I understand that solution may be obvious or i have not noticed relevant topict, but i am stuck.

    Solution of this problem was at this page (Comment 14 solved everything).
    Problem was in jvi plugin.
    You should perform all described actions and then install plugin from: http://plugins.netbeans.org/plugin/3891 … ate-center to enable jvi support.
    Solved!

    Note that the drive is password protected. If I use 'hdparm --security-disable' with my known password, it fails with the following error:

    If I try this for few times, the security count expires.
    I see three problems that it could have:
    - my hdparm/system/whatever does not fully support the drive; maybe the password cannot be accepted?
    - maybe the password used by the laptop bios was filled with other characters after my typing: spaces?
    - not the password is the problem, but getting information from the drive: not supported by this system?
    I assume dmesg is the key, but I can't interpret it. I hope someone could tell me what should I verify/do further, I have no idea what to test anymore.

    djszapi wrote:Is it a crypted system ? Can't you boot into it from livecd neither ? What did you do immediately before when this error started to occur ?
    No, it is not encrypted. Just as an information, it contains 4 partitions: sdb1=NTFS, sdb2=ext4, sdb3=swap, sdb4=ext4.
    This error did not occur when I was using it on my laptop, but I took the HDD out and mounted it in my girlfriend's computer, she has another Arch installed there, so I don't meed to boot from this disk, just to be able to read it. The password is a disk password - hardware probably, not for encrypted partitions. I could not disable the password because the original laptop doesn't start anymore, and the BIOS settings on this desktop computer does not support HDD password, but only System password.
    So, if the HDD had no passwod set, I could tell you if the reading problem comes from some incompatibility issues, but as for now, I can't tell where it comes from, because I need to deactivate its security with hdparm --security-disable first. But this actually looks to not work, or something.
    I'm thinking that the mianboard doesn't support this HDD directly connected, the things I'll do next week are:
    - buying an external HDD 2.5 rack
    - plug it in the USB
    - try again hdparm and anything required to make it read.
    If this fails, too, probably the only remaining solution is to find someone with an Acer laptop to put this HDD inside and backup my data, or at least deactivate the pass from the bios setings.
    Btw, I think this is something worth mentioning to warn the users in general: this Acer 5520G was of very poor quality, things began to crack right after the one year guarantee expired, beginning with the DVD-writer.

  • SOLVED kinda : New Graphic card and PulseAudio not working as expected

    Hello,
    I just changed my RadeonHD 4670 for a 7870, now when I type "aplay -l"  I get a lot of HDMI outputs, although only one on the card...
    I think this confuses PulseAudio and I get no sound... (with previous card it worked all fine)
    if in default.pa I specify the alsa sink device=hw:0,3 directly, I do get sound, but then in pavucontrol I do not get the advanced sub-menu anymore which makes me think something is not working properly...
    What should I look at?
    Thanks!
    Last edited by gee (2013-11-29 05:19:01)

    well I finally found a hack that worked.
    I changed the extra-hdmi.conf in /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/profile-sets file to :
    [Mapping hdmi-surround-extra0]
    description = Digital Surround 5.1 (HDMI 0)
    device-strings = hdmi:%f,0
    paths-output = hdmi-output-0
    channel-map = front-left,front-right,rear-left,rear-right,front-center,lfe
    priority = 1
    direction = output
    [Mapping hdmi-surround-extra3]
    description = Digital Surround 5.1 (HDMI 3)
    device-strings = hdmi:%f,0
    paths-output = hdmi-output-3
    channel-map = front-left,front-right,rear-left,rear-right,front-center,lfe
    priority = 1
    direction = output
    I only need one of these two, somehow they both work...
    But next time pulse gets updated I'll have to remember to fix that again... not just a workaround not a fix.

  • [SOLVED ]pacman -S R, but R does not work

    I installed R following this tutorial:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/R
    But when I try to start R, I get:
    /usr/lib/R/bin/exec/R: error while loading shared libraries: liblzma.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    I have those libraries (maybe an older version? But I updated my system a few weeks ago):
    /usr/lib/liblzma.a
    /usr/lib/liblzma.so
    /usr/lib/liblzma.so.0
    /usr/lib/liblzma.so.0.0.0
    /usr/lib/pkgconfig/liblzma.pc
    I searched over the Internet for the error, and found this , but is with a different library, Never the less, the solutions there did not work for me.
    Any help?
    Last edited by gromlok (2010-11-07 06:54:49)

    Sorry, indeed was and older version.
    Solution:
    pacman -S xz -----> contains that library
    Now it works.

As I was a bit sloppy with my system I cannot pin down a certain date from which on this behaviour occured. It's happened in the last two weeks, and I assume, that it was caused by the update of rc.sysinit.
    Here the importants part of rc.conf
    MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes"
    #MOD_BLACKLIST=() #deprecated
    MODULES=(acpi-cpufreq cpufreq-ondemand !snd_seq_dummy !snd_seq_oss !snd_pcm_oss !8139cp !ipw2100 !yenta_socket !firewire_ohci)

    I had some time to do a deeper research. I tinkered around in rc.sysinit and added calls to lsmod at different postitions. With this approach I reached following conclusion:
    The code in lines 78 to 84 in rc.sysinit loads nearly all the modules for my system (rtc-Modules are loaded before, modules for hdd-access come from the init-ramdisk, cpufreq-modules are not loaded). This includes modules blacklisted in rc.conf but not those modules blacklisted in /etc/modprobe.d/*.
    Without further research I would assume that udev doesn't care for the MODULES-Array in the rc.conf. So one should 'fix' udev or remove the blacklisting from rc.conf completly and leave blacklisting to /etc/modprobe.d/*.
    I'm still curious if some special circumstances on my system lead to this behaviour or if the other users just don't use the blacklisting in rc.conf respectivly use it combined with blacklisting in /etc/modpobe.d/*.
    I'm keeping my /etc/ in a git-repository and checkout the files I tinkered with after I'm finished. Therefore I guess that the chances of some modified configuration files are quite small. Anyway I'll check files if I get hints.
    To avoid confusion and clearify my findings I post the 'culprit'
    # Trigger udev uevents
    if /bin/pidof -o %PPID /sbin/udevd >/dev/null; then
    stat_busy "Triggering UDev uevents"
    /sbin/udevadm control --property=STARTUP=1
    /sbin/udevadm trigger
    stat_done
    fi
    I'm still offering cooperation for dealing with this issue.
    If this is no issue at all, I would be very happy if someone could (try to) explain this behaviour on my system (Yes, I like to solve riddles a lot...).
    Best regards

  • [SOLVED] vsftpd on Local Mirror, running but not working

    I'm building a Local Mirror on a vm (vbox) with bridged adapter and fix-ip by following this wiki.
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Loc … cal_mirror
    After the painful rsync and those setup, I tried pacman -Syu from another Arch vm (no firewall).  I received the following error.
    :: Synchronizing package databases...
    error: failed retrieving file 'core.db.tar.gz' from 192.168.100.100 : Service not available, closing control connection
    I've tried by nmap on the hosting PC and find that the vsftpd should be running.
    Starting Nmap 4.62 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2010-08-27 01:03 HKT
    Interesting ports on 192.168.100.100:
    Not shown: 1714 closed ports
    PORT   STATE SERVICE
    21/tcp open  ftp
    MAC Address: 08:00:27:76:33:1C (Cadmus Computer Systems)
    Nmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 1.318 seconds
    In the wiki, it suggests to use "ftp" to replace "mirror" for ftp_username & nopriv_user.  I tried both.
    I also find that there is no "archlinux" under my /home/mirror/files as "suggested" by the following statement in vsftpd.conf
    # Chroot directory for anonymous user
    anon_root=/home/mirror/files/archlinux
    I tried both (1) amend the vsftpd.conf to remove the "archlinux", and (2) manually add that directory with owner/group=mirror.
    Meanwhile, I only find under /home/mirror/files 6 items - community core extra community.lastsync core.lastsync extra.lastsync.  Have I completed the rsync successfully?  Or, something is missing.  Is the directory structure correct?
    Is the sample vsftpd.conf in the Local Mirror wiki updated?  I've cross reference it with the vsftpd wiki but I'm not knowledgable enough to find things useful.
    What else should I check?
    I love ArchLinux so much that I really hope that it can work.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

    I have tried couple of Linux distro to learn Linux/Network.  I like ArchLinux's "simple" concept, light weight, updated packages, nice document and fast bootup/shutdown.  I have installed over ten times ArchLinux in different virtualmachines and netbook in the past week.  I will keep some, delete some and create more.  I don't have a fast internet connection and that's why I would like to set up my local mirror.  I am a newbie here, so please feel free to let me know if I am taking too much (bandwidth) from the community, and it is not encouraged for my case.  And sorry if I have already created any trouble.
    Well, back to my problem.
    1. After the rsync, including everything, the / now occupies 14G harddisk space.  Is it a normal size for a local mirror?
    2. I have inserted "Server = file:///home/mirror/files/$repo/os/i686" as the first line in its /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
        pacman -Syy  looks fine.
        pacman -Syu  gives a list of warning (xxx: local is newer than core), end with "there is nothing to do"
        pacman -S mplayer  starts installtion normally, but need mirrors on internet cause a large portion of software is missing/inaccessible on my local mirror.
    3. I have tried to login by FileZilla from an Ubuntu vm, and receive this error message (on FileZilla)
    Status:    Connecting to 192.168.100.100:21...
    Status:    Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
    Response:    421 Service not available.
    Error:    Could not connect to server
    Seems I have issues on both the mirror and the vsftpd.  I prefer to resolve the vsftpd problem first, but all suggestion/comment are very welcome.
    Lastly, did I post my question in a wrong place?  If yes, please let me know.

  • [SOLVED] Xbox 360 Off-brand controller does not work

    I'm having a problem getting X11 to recognize my Madcatz Xbox 360 controller under the Xpad driver.  It works under Ubuntu as a (get this) "pointer device" and perfectly under Windows 7, but nothing more.  I tried modifying entries in /etc/hal/fdi/policy as per instructions on the Linux Mint forums to no avail.
    Below are some things I tried and some data.
    /etc/hal/fdi/policy/MadCatzGamePad:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <deviceinfo version="0.2">
    <device>
    <match key="info.product" contains="Mad Catz Wired Xbox 360 Controller">
    <merge key="input.x11_driver" type="string"></merge>
    </match>
    </device>
    </deviceinfo>
    lshal | grep -i xbox:
    info.product = 'Mad Catz Wired Xbox 360 Controller' (string)
    input.product = 'Mad Catz Wired Xbox 360 Controller' (string)
    usb.interface.description = 'Xbox Security Method 3, Version 1.00, ? 2005 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.' (string)
    I hope somebody can use this information to help me out!  I love the Xbox 360 controller and it's certainly better than the logitech.  Buying a new controller is NOT an option!
    Edit:  It actually works now, it just was blinking before I played a game.  Yay!

    Hi
    Thanks for the advice above. Initially cleaned off original app
    I removed the software application from Mac HD/Applications/Orange Mobile Partner
    The kernel extension located at Mac HD/System/Library/Extensions/HuaweiDataCardDriver.kext
    The modem script located at Mac HD/Library/Modem Scripts/HUAWEI Mobile Connect – 3G Modem
    Then dragged the Orange MobilePartner file to the HD, selected 'Show Package Contents' and followed the advice above opening the .mpkg.
    Was about to try and return the dongle, but now after several tests, am sure it works

  • [Solved] AUR: Nvidia legacy drivers for MX4000 not working?

    Hi.
    I'm attempting to turn an old Dell machine I've acquired into a 720p HTPC. I've already tested XBMC out on this machine via WinXP, and considering I've always gotten better video playback through Linux, I thought I'd try out a minimal Arch XBMC install.
    Problem is that this card, the Geforce 4 MX 4000 (128MB AGP x4), is no longer supported in the current Nvidia packaging.
    After reading the wiki, I configured my makepkg with the native parameter, built, and installed the AUR's 173xx Nvidia package.
    When attempting to load X after configuring, I noticed in the output that it recognized the card, but notified me that I was only supported under the lagacy 96xx packaging. I then installed the nvidia-96xx, and nvidia-96xx-utils, packages from the aur.
    After attempting either a non-configured X, or with one, I'm getting the message that my card isn't recognized. This is despite the fact that the vesa, and nouveau, drivers see it just fine. FYI - I boot the kernel with the 'vga=792' parameter in case that makes a difference.
    The messages received when Xorg fails were something like the following.
    WARNING
    This server has a video driver ABI version of 12.0 that is not supported by this driver
    AND
    Fatal server error:
    no screens found
    I'm posting this from Windows, and I can't give you any net feedback while in Arch.

    Well... after doing a more thorough web search, I found the Catalyst unofficial Arch repos here.
    - http://catalyst.apocalypsus.net/
    I tried first to add them to my pacman.conf and install them, but Arch's new security measures said no-no-no. I have no clue how to add new repos as trusted after the initial pacman-key --init, so I manually downloaded the xorg packages needed.
    As I had truly done a minimal net install followed by a 'pacman -S xorg-server xorg-server-utils xorg-xinit xterm', the only incompatibility messages I received were for the xf86-video-vesa and xf86-input-edev packages.
    This was what was involved in getting this to work.
    - Do core net install of Arch system, and reboot.
    - Install minimal xorg from current repos through pacman via...
    pacman -S xorg-server xorg-server-utils xorg-xinit
    - Manual download, and downgrade to, xorg-server-1.10.4-1, xf86-input-evdev-2.6.0-3, or any other required xorg packages from the Catalyst repo.
    - Install nvidia-96xx, and nvidia-96xx-utils, packages from AUR.
    - Running 'X -configure' reported missing file error. Do a search for the missing file name minus the '.0' extension, and create a softlink with the extension included.
    - Rerun 'X -configure', move xorg.conf.new file to /etc/X11/xorg.conf, run 'nvidia-xconfig'.
    BTW - the command line browser 'links' will help a lot before you have a GUI setup. In my case XBMC.
