[solved]Good password management tool - which one?

Hello guys,
I want to store my passwords  in an encrypted file which I can use on different plattforms (if not existent yet, only for linux OSs.) Most of you guys know truecrypt. A truecrypt file can be used on any plattforms where truecrypt is useable. Just like this, I would like to ask you guys which tools you use for managing your passwords. For me, it should be something which can be used on different plattforms. For example (most of them are not cross-plattform), there are many tools like seahorse, pwmanager, pwsafe, keysafe, keepassx, etc...
Which tools do you guys use? Do you guys know any of the tools whose source code is already reviewed and confirmed as the most secure or "the state of the art" tool for managing passwords? It would be also nice if the crypto pass generation feature is already included in that tool.
Security matters!

A couple of years ago, I found these two scripts on the net somewhere and have been quite pleased.  "apass" opens the password file for adding.  It takes no parameters.  "gpass" searches the file for a password.  It takes the string you're looking for as a parameter.
You will be prompted for a password to open the password file in each case. "apass" will ask you to set a password when you close the file.
First "apass":
#!/bin/bash
# name: apass
# usage "apass" - no parameters
ccdecrypt ~/.ssh/.pw1.txt.cpt
nano ~/.ssh/.pw1.txt
ccencrypt ~/.ssh/.pw1.txt
And "gpass":
#!/bin/bash
# greps encrypted password file for passwords
test -n "$1" && ccat ~/.ssh/.pw1.txt.cpt | grep $1 $2 $3
I like these guys because they're lightening fast and easily portable.
I've adopted the convention of entering all searchable strings, not passwords, in lowercase but that's entirely up to you.
Of course, change the editor to whatever command line editor you prefer.

  • I use the older style firefox and cannot get the password manager to remember one of my passwords, how do I do this

I use the older style Firefox browser and cannot get the password manager to remember one of my main site's password. how can I do this?

The website may be using autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving the name and password.
You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox save the name and password.

  • Can anyone recommend a good Password manager / safe for iPhone & Mac?

Looking for a combination of an App and an Mac application that can safely encrypt all of my Passwords, memberships, bank details etc. etc.
*I've found the following, but was curious in anyone can recommend one over another or a completley different solution altogether?*
    SpalshID
    http://www.splashdata.com/splashid/iphone/
    1Password
    http://agilewebsolutions.com/onepassword/iphone
    eWallet
    http://www.iliumsoft.com/site/iphone/products_ewmac.php
    Thoughts & suggestions gladly appreciated.

1Password has a very strong reputation among Mac owners--lots of people love it.
I use and like Wallet on Mac and iPhone, but not really for the password manager aspects, although it is one:
    http://www.acrylicapps.com/wallet/
For me, one really important issue is "will it sync without me having to think about it, or do I have to consciously open it and hit sync while on the same wireless network?" Wallet uses WebDAV or MobileMe (which works for me), 1Password has a Dropbox solution, not sure about the others.
Download the trial versions for the Mac, see which one you are most comfortable with.

  • Looking for a good Password Manager App for the iPhone

I'm looking for a good and reliable Password Manager App for the iPhone with sync capabilities on macs. I've read several reviews on several different apps on iTunes, and either they don't work properly, or they're a rip off, or they just don't sync or all of the above. Any recommendations?
    Thanks in advance.

I've been very happy with 1Password, though I haven't used the iPhone component (not having an iPhone).

  • ThinkVantage Password Management Tool Bug Report

The Password Manager gets confused and is unable to handle entering passwords for multiple accounts into applications like Outlook and Office Communicator.
Example: I have Outlook 2010 configured to connect to two different exchange server. When I attempt to log into Account 1, it stores the password and will sucessfully cache the password. When the login prompt pops up for Account 2, the Password Manager gets confused and thinks it needs to update the password for Account 1. I can have it enter the password properly for one account at a time, but at no time will it properly handle both.

  • XFCE GUI User/Password Management Tool

    Hi All.
I am looking for a GUI user management tool, or at the very least and my primary need, a GUI password changer for the XFCE environment.
The goal is to give a standard user the ability to change their own password without the need to open a terminal, if possible.
    Hopefully I haven't overlooked it.
    Could anyone make a suggestion?
    Thanks in advance.

Rexilion wrote:That's not going to work. You will need root privileges to change your own password. I think you could get away with a script and some sudo magic. Need some help with that?
    What?
    man passwd
A normal user may only change the password for his/her own account, while the superuser may change the password for any account.
    @Eldon
AFAIK XFCE itself doesn't have such a tools, but from a quick google I noticed that most people seem to be using the gnome-system-tools package.

  • BI Reporting Tools - Which one to prefer ?

We have many number of use Oracle Financials users and we do have exposure to all BI reporting tools, in addition to OFA. We are finding it dfficult to understant which tool would be the best to use in different situatoin. As we have Discoverer, DBI, OFA, ADI - It is confusing which tool to prefer in the first point, while creating reports. Also as we are in the developing end, we find it difficult to tell poeple that this tool would be the best for this sitation, as the same report could also be generated from other reporting tools.
Could anyone tell me where I can find documentation that would help us to identify the right tools for the right situation?
    Many thanks.

For actual reporting tools, the standard Oracle Reports is of course popular as it comes with Oracle Apps predefined reports.
However, Discoverer is popular as it allows 'ad-hoc' reporting (which is another whole story in that do you want end users to perform ad-hoc querying) and its a tool that under 10g r2 has really come together.
XML Publisher is definitely something that Oracle is pushing more - and supposedly a some time in the long future replacement for Reports (so I've heard but who knows if the source is correct).
If you're referring to relational table tools, then the biggies are Oracle Discoverer, Cognos Impromptu, Business Objects, Brio, etc. However some have been bought out in recent past (ie: Brio). They all use a middle layer (ie: EUL, catalog, universe) and all have strengths and weaknesses. It's usually a safe argument to use the Oracle tool (if you can wait for it to catch up to competitors) as Oracle tools are usually tightly aligned with Oracle database, Apps, etc. But if you want more disparate sources to use the tool with, then Oracle tools (ie: Discoverer) may not always be the best one to use.
For OLAP reporting, the big boy is Hyperion (but at a considerable cost). Now, however Oracle is really trying to kill these other tools (sorry ... compete with), with the 10g database that supports relational and OLAP in the same database and their query tools (ie: Disco Plus 10g r2) that can access both / either.
So, it's one of those questions that always comes around again. Of course, General Motors is better than Ford, right? Same argument, but I've found that a company hanging it's hat on Oracle tools in an Oracle environment (database) and especially in an Oracle Apps shop (Enterprise Suite), usually is happy. Not always happy at the current version, but Oracle with it's humungous amount of money and resources, usually either gets their tool up to their competitor's level - or buys them out!

  • I Need a Good HD and Case Which One to Buy?

I need an external, large capacity (350GB +) HD for my iBook G4. Can anyone recommend a good HD and case? I need to be able to boot from the external HD. Thanks.

Mostly it saves money since you don't have to buy separate drives.
But its also nice to keep certain things separated. I back up two Macs to a single drive, but separate partitions. OS-X thinks they are separate drives and SuperDuper recognises which drive belongs with which Mac.

  • HT4623 Password - not sure which one!

I just downloaded the latest update, but it's now asking for a password. It's not accepting my Apple pw. I don't know which other password we're supposed to enter here. Help on this issue will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi PhilipRoy,
Great idea! But I removed the e-mail and associated password from my account years ago. I was very surprised to see it show up anywhere. It certainly is not listed on my current account with Apple. Now what? Can I back out of the update? Jeez, I thought I had totally eraser that retired e-mail address and have no idea what the password is. I could play with it but fear being 'locked out' and just adding to my woos. Thanks.

  • Out of band managent router - which one?

I'm looking for an out of bound management router that can support the following features:
    1. Support ADSL (for ADSL 2+)
    2. Support SSL VPN
    3. Has at least 2 interfaces.
Im thinking of getting a Cisco 1841 router but not sure if that's the right choice.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

We have them deployed as back up routers at a few hundred sites. We also use them as primary routers for over 2000 smaller sites. No major flaws to report. Seem pretty robust. If only the DSL they connected to was as reliable.

  • Feature request: better keyword management tool

I'm re-organizing my keywords and I think that LR needs some work in keyword management and DAM features.
I miss something like separate keyword management tool which would have two keyword lists, which would work a bit like spatial file management in Os X finder.
Easily manage keyword hierarchy. For example: browse list and and be able to easily select keywords (now it's OK) and drag and drop them to under a new keyword (almost ok, but sometimes cumbersome, if one wants to move keyword which is/are at the bottom of the long keyword list to keyword which is at the top of the list).

Dang near impossible once you have a lot of keywords. A work-around for me has been to filter keywords first to reduce the number of keywords in the list, then do the drag 'n drop. At a minimum, a change to scroll the list when you're searching for a drop target at a variable rate that depends on mouse position, or even something simple like slowing it down when the alt key is pressed.
+1 vote - better keyword management.
Something else that may help you in the mean time: KeywordConsolidator.

  • A good password app for my 3GS

Does anyone know of a good password manager/app that will do the following?
    Backup on to my PC
Sync with password store on PC
The ability to have categories like Credit Cards, Web Sites, Desktops, and Servers etc.
Free is better if there is one but a pay app is okay as long as it has the above features.

    Clever old you.
All your card numbers and pins and expiry dates and seciruty codes?
Your passport number and National Health number?
    e-mail servers, logins and passwords?
    Insurance policy numbers?
    Telephone and internet banking passwords?
    Driving licence?
    WEP key for your wi-fi?
    Software serial numbers?

  • Password Storing Tool

Is there a good password storing tool other than CiphSafe that anyone has used? I would like to save them all in one place.
    thanks!

    HI,
How about *Keychain Access* in your Applications/Utilites folder? If you do use a 3rd party password utility, make sure it is compatible with Mac OS X 10.6.2

  • HRMS Integration with third party Project Management Tool

    Hi All,
We have plans of procurring a third party Project Management Tool which needs to be integrated to existing Oracle Financials. Project Management Tool needs employee information for its functioning.
a)Is there any API available for this purpose which exposes HR data to any third party tool?
b)Can anyone suggest what should be the approach for such integration?
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    SA

What 3rd party tool are you going to be using? You might get lucky and it might be something that Oracle has bought recently. Does this post mean you are using Oracle Projects? If so, you may want to post this question in that forum as well. At least you would limit the audience to projects oriented customers, so might get some better replies there than you will here. Food for thought.
