[SOLVED] hostname functionality lost

After a recent update I see that most of hostname's functionality is lost. Unfortunately I use it in many scripts etc. What is the "correct" alternative now? I installed yp-tools but it does not include any hostname binary (or variant thereof).
I obviously can compile net-tools (and/or it's components) myself but is there a formal package (or AUR) with the original functionality?

I think you misunderstand. The issue is caused by the OFFICIAL ArchLinux changes within the net-tools package that provides hostname. Specifically, this change I believe:

[SOLVED] Hostname lost

Hello all,
I tried all what I could, impossible to get my hostname back !
I made an upgrade on a machine and lost the hostname !! This computer should be named crystal, but now I have :
$ uname -n
(none)
$ echo $HOSTNAME
Here is /etc/hosts :
#<ip-address> <hostname.domain.org> <hostname>
127.0.0.1 crystal.localdomain crystal
::1 crystal.localdomain crystal
# End of file
I tried installing everything I could like net-tools, coreutils, ypbind but nothing
I don't have the `hostname` command.
I've also put crystal in /etc/hostname.
Don't now what to do now or where to search.... Any help please ?

Check Box functionally lost when visiblity is turned off then back on

Please pardon my attempt to ask a coherent question for I am new to Oracle Forms!
I have created a canvas using the layout wizard against an Oracle table. I needed to provide the means to select mulitple records for DELETION; so, I created a check box item beside the database items to allow the ability to select records to delete. I also allow the user to query this table in query mode against a couple of columns to help isolate records to be deleted. So far, I have gotten the expected functionality from the check box on the initial query of this form.
Now, heres my problem!
When I try to reduce the query result while in "ENTER_QUERY" (F7) mode, I intentionally make my check box item invisible. The thought being "I should not allow users opportunity select records for deletion while in the process of querying the table to fetch the records you will be deleting from!" Once I press F8 to execute the my query, I issue the following statements in my KEY-EXEQRY trigger:
set_item_property( 'EFIS_EMAIL_QUEUE.SELECTTODELETE', VISIBLE, PROPERTY_TRUE );
set_item_property( 'EFIS_EMAIL_QUEUE.SELECTTODELETE', ENABLED, PROPERTY_TRUE );
My results are displayed along with the check box to select records for deletion!
At thsi point, the functionally of the check box no longer works!
I get a forms error "(FRM-40200) Field is protected against update."
I look in the Property Palette under the Physical section and the Visible attribute is set to "Yes"!
Can someone tell me why turning the visible attribute "OFF*" and then back "*ON*" caused the lost functionity?*
What must I do to get this functionally back without abandoning this design premise?+
Is there some other attribute settings I must reset in addition to the two set_item_property issued above?+

JDialog.... functionality lost

Hi,
I have created a Frame that consist of 2 JPAnels.
I haev a button one one of the JPanel that whn pressed pops up a dialog box.
This works fine, but when I close the dialog box one of my panels in the frame will not work properly. i.e. one of the buttons functionality doesnt work.
Secondly I have a problem with a Icon image. I have the image displayed via IconImage and JLabel. But the image is never displayed to the screen unless i resize the window???
any ideas??

I basically have 2 problems now. Firstly the image doesnt appear unless I resize the window, and when i move the dialog box off the screen, the image gets erased. similar to the eraser in paintbrush. I have tried doing repaint() and nothing.
And finally, the functionality is lost in the main frame when i close the dialog box

Epson Scan function lost when I switched to Win7.

I used PSE2 for a long time with my Epson Stylus Photo RX620. It had a very user-friendly Photomerge function and I used the File>Import to scan with my printer heavily. When I bought PSE8, I found that neither of these things were user-friendly anymore, and some functionality was missing, so I continued to user PSE2 for photo editing. Recently I upgraded from Win XP to a new laptop with Win7. I've lost the Epson Scan completely, in PSE2 and PSE8. The folks at Epson tell me that (although their website says differently) the Epson Stylus Photo RX620 is incompatible with Win7, and indeed, we have tried every driver we can get our hands on without success. I asked them what model might be compatible with PSE2/PSE8/Win7 and they were not willing to recommend. I would like to hear from anyone who is familiar with the features of PSE2 and might advise me on what I can and cannot get back in either 2 or 8, and what printer might be compatible.

You can try VueScan for Windows 7 to see if it works with your scanner.

Also, for Windows 7, did you try installing a driver for Vista? I have noticed that Vista drivers always work in Windows 7. It is worth a try.

HP Deskjet 3055A scan functions lost.

I have recently bought my first Macbook Pro (yey) and I can't get my HP Deskjet 3055A to scan.
My Macbook will recognise it as a printer fine but I seem to have lost all Scanning functions which is rather annoying.
Is it something Im doing wrong or is it an 'Apple'ism??? Ive tried searching for a driver to download from the HP website but there is none to download.

[SOLVED]I've lost my saved passwords after changing hardware

I had to change my motherboard and processor the other day and immediately after that incident, I seem to have lost all of my passwords. The reason I'm certain of this is because the only password that's saved is from a site I only used after this incident. The only thing I'd done recently other than change hardware was update firefox to 35.02.
Even after restoring my key3.db to a version 4 months old, not a single difference was made. The password manager still only has that one single username and password, rather than the many I had before. Other than the change of hardware, the boot partition and drives are the same and nothing was uninstalled. Also, I'm not sure if it's related, but my logins.json file is 1KB while the logins.json.corrupt is 109KB. Were the passwords saved in there? What should I give a try?

1. In the location bar, type "about:config" (without the quotes) and
press <Enter>.
2. Click [I'll be careful, I Promise!]
3. Search for the preference: signon.importedFromSqlite
4. Right click on signon.importedFromSqlite, and select "Reset".
5. Go to Help-->Troubleshooting_Information, then click on [Open
Folder]. That will open Windows Explorer in your Firefox profile.
6. Close Firefox
7. In your profile folder, delete the file "logins.json"."

Many functions lost after upgrading to OS5 on iPhone 3GS

Recently, I've upgraded my OS for my iPhone 3GS to OS5 version, and many of the useful, or rather basic function on the default iphone apps are gone.
For example, firstly, the symbol in the calendar app is missing, and I could no longer add an event or activities when I open the calendar overview application. Although, there is a new app called "Reminders" which came with the new OS5 version, I could only input one alert reminder, which in the past I could create two alerts to alert me twice (different day/time count-down) for the coming event activity.
Second, the "Contacts" application. Likewise, same issue with that of the calendar app, the symbol too was missing and no longer available to add new contacts. I have to open up the "Phone" app, and had go onto the recent calls tab to create a new contact. Another added bug for the "Contact" application, is that when I select on any of my contact in the phonebook, the "Edit" is no longer available too. It used to have it there...now I can't edit anything or add any further information of a particular contact, not to mention delete/ remove it too.
Third, I heard the new OS5 is able to allow 3GS iPhones to function/ act as a router for internet tethering when personal hotspot is turned on. But it seemed like, it only works on iPhone 4 and above.
Fourth, I used to be able to set to manual synch whenever I plug my phone to my comp, but I can no longer do so as the iTunes does not automatically open when I plug my iPhone into my comp. I had to tick the "open iTunes when iPhone is connected", but it automatically synch my phone and backup the data when I wanted to manually choose to do it like before selecting through the "File" in the top menu.
So far, these are the major basic problems I've encountered. Would Apple please dedug and resolve these problem ASAP??? I am getting pretty impatient after have feedback to Apple since 3 weeks ago after the upgrade, yet no new OS updates is been available to resolve the bugs..

Well, it would seem that the issue here is that iOS4 is not properly reading the backup that was created before the update. Or the backup is not being created in a properly formatted manner. There are just too many cases of a post upgrade issue being solved by restoring as a new phone for it not to be bad data.
Pain in the hiney, I know. And this is nothing new. All the way back through the iPhone's iPod roots, there has alway been a point in the troubleshooting tree that comes down to "restore the iPod". Just a more awkward thing now that the iPod has evolved into a phone and is trying to keep any number of settings straight. Not to mention no one wants to take their phone down unless there is no other option.

Email functionality lost in IOS5

I lost email function for all my accounts on my IPad after ios5 upgrade. I, like a bunch of other people, am having problems with apps and new features on the iPad. iPhone is working ok but not as fast as I expected. Is apple working on an update to fix the update? :)

Lost what email functionality (sending, receiving, reading ...), what problems with apps, and what needs fixing ? Nobody on here knows what Apple are or aren't working on. If you say what problems that you've got then someone on here might be able to help

Edit: inetutils from [testing] http://www.archlinux.org/packages/testi … inetutils/ have the hostname binary and it was removed from the [testing] net-tools http://www.archlinux.org/packages/testi … net-tools/
Packages in [core] still work the old way: net-tools provides hostname.

DISGUSTED! ImageReady functionality lost for producing smart objects in GoLive!

It is ABSURD that the rollover/layer-based slice capabilities feature of ImageReady was eliminated and instead replaced by way of mediocrity using manual copy and paste functionality within Dreamweaver. What kind of step-backward mentality is this? I am beyond disappointed and feel betrayed by Adobe, not to mention unbelievably, inconsiderately inconvenienced. Does the title "industry standard" require bowing to irrational development or is this mere laziness on Adobe's part?
Previously I had been able to develop multiple series of rollovers within Photoshop using layers and then switch to ImageReady in order to automatically produce rollover code for a set of images...AS ONE IMAGE FILE. These images could then be placed into GoLive (another hot-button issue!) as SMART OBJECTS - gee, what a concept! - where the targets, if necessary and not already entered within ImageReady, could be linked to any page within the the site folders. Now I can't access the secondary image anywhere at all. It appears that the only solution for us lowly GoLive CS2 users is now to be required to TRIPLE THE AMOUNT OF WORK AND place multiple objects within a page layout, leaving (no pun intended) room for pixel space errors and requiring multiple manual page adjustments when the work was ALREADY DONE IN PHOTOSHOP! Layer-based slices are a work of genius, but NOT without the added capability of automatic rollover detection. How am I supposed to work this out in GoLive?
NOW, only NOW am I discovering that this "merged capability" within Photoshop is missing one of THE MOST INGENIOUS FEATURES EVER and now I am scrambling to find some garbage workaround in order to capacitate the need for a string of visual interface objects. This is the kind of move I EXPECT from Microsoft, but NEVER have I been this put out with Adobe. NEVER.
Is this the only solution? Bend to the will of the Dreamweaver cabal and join the ranks of the Microsuck copy-and-paste zombies? Not only is the new CS3 series "upgrade" cost-prohibitive for most anyone that isn't within the realm of the design elite or corporate ladder-climbing ranks of internal design group budgets, the tools appear to force anyone without the time necessary to learn the intricacies of manual HTML tagging to create nothing but the same garbage website in an infinite spectrum of ineptitude.
Is the new GoLive 9 supposed to accommodate this ridiculous shot-in-the-foot move or am I REALLY going to have to resort to a complete reload of CS2?

Dave and Buko, that's my entire point...I shouldn't have to be using CS2 after purchasing CS3. I have full versions for both thankfully and for this very reason but I don't know if I can install CS2 in addition to CS3 without causing some system file issues. I did briefly read about someone else trying that in another forum.
IR does indeed work great with GoLive CS2. My issue is that the rollovers in the extended Photoshop CS3 do NOT work and don't export code at all. It's damn frustrating that after making the purchase, I feel duped.
And Buko, no, I never even bothered with Dreamweaver. I attempted to learn it several times and was just put off completely. I previously owned both Macrodmedia Studio Professional and the complete Adobe CS2, but the upgrades for the combined product sets which made sense for me and didn't break the bank like purchasing the "Master Suite" didn't even include things like Fireworks, which supposedly has some sort of workaround for rollovers when setting multiple targets in an image file.

Why are calculation functions lost from Reader Extended PDF when downloaded from website?

I am creating PDF forms with most fields performing calculations. I am saving the forms out as Reader Extended PDF> Enable Additional Features. When I email the form there is no problem with the person using the form, all calculations work. The person is able to save the form and all info is present.
However, when the same file is posted on a website with a clickable link to download, once downloaded, all the calculation functions are missing from the fields. Additionally, when the user fills the form out anyway, the info in the fields is invisible.
I am on a MAC OS 10 using Acrobat X Pro. The majority of the people going to the website and using the forms are on Windows. What am I doing wrong?

It sounds like you're actually using the Preview application when viewing the form on your Mac. It does not support JavaScript, which is how the automatic calculations are implemented. It also corrupts forms when it saves them. A result of this corruption is when the form is subsequently opened in Acrobat/Reader, the fields are blank unless a field has the focus. [SOLVED] Hostname not showing in DHCP lease list

This is a brand new installation using the new systemd base.
Installed openbox as window manager and Network Manager.
What did I miss that the hostname of this computer (opus) is not showing up in the DHCP Leases list?
When I connect to the network using Network Manger(DHCP), hostname is not sent to the DHCP server (DNSmasq). It shows up as a "*":

What file do I need to change and how?
Updated:
1) I created a /etc/dhclient.conf file and added:
send host-name "opus";
request subnet-mask, broadcast-address, time-offset, routers,
domain-search, domain-name, domain-name-servers, host-name;
and rebooted.
This had no effect.
2) Just for kicks, I uninstalled Network Manager and installed Wicd.
This DID send the hostname and it displayed on the DHCP Leases List. But it also had the effect of turning off the WiFi radio.
I did try to turn it back on: Went to the BIOS, made sure it was on (it was). Read some posts about power savings and what to do (tried them, didn't work).
So I uninstalled Wicd, re-installed Network Manager and I am back to where I was.

Help! Typewriter function lost in Acrobat X Std

I use Acrobat X Standard on a PC to fill in interactive forms created by the Cook County Probate Court. I have been doing this since before Acrobat X came out. They are interactive forms, but sometimes there are notations that don't go into a pre-created field, so I have used the typewriter function. Now I find that if I open a form in which I used the typewriter function previously, it is still there and can be used: I can create a typewriter entry, edit old ones, delete, etc. But, if I open a form in which I have not previously used the typewriter function, it is not available. That is, it appears on the Tools list, but is not in bold print and if I click on it, nothing happens. I really miss this feature. Using the old IBM Selectric just ruins my day. HELP?

Thanks. I repaired the install and no changes. The earlier point, however, about some of the forms not allowing commenting might be a clue. I went into the Count Clerk's website and downloaded one of the forms in which I have been able to add typewritten comments in the past. The form was revised in 9/6/13 and it no longer allows any comments. However, the difference is that in this form the Tools menu -- and therefore typewriter -- does not appear at all.
The form I have been having trouble with is a newer form and may not allow commenting -- altho the Tools menu does show up. It was revised 9/4/13 -- two days before the above form. I hope this isn't supposed to be progress.

IPhone timer functionality lost with latest update

The latest iPhone update has seemingly eliminated the ability to set the timer for anything other than full minutes. I utilized the "seconds" feature very frequently, and this change is an annoyance. Sadly, thoughtless changes by Apple seem to be becoming SOP. I don't suppose anyone knows of a "fix" for this, do they? (I'm still very frustrated over the change to FaceTime on my laptop which mutes all other sounds, limiting the program's functionality; this seems to be a developing pattern.)

Why this function disappeared for awhile, I don't know, but the seconds option is now back. I don't get it...
