{Solved}How to drop to a terminal only environment but stay logged in?

Cntrl+ALT+f1 drops me to a command prompt but logs me out in the process. For some reason terminals just kept spawning for me and i wasn't able to enter killall terminal into one of them because terminals kept spawning making that impossible. if something like this was to happen again is there anything i can do to drop down to a shell only but keep all current processes running and then kill the misbehavior and then return back to the gui?

If you are in X on tty7 you can switch to tty1 (or any other open tty). This tty-switch will *not* log you out of X on tty7, you simply will not yet be logged in on that other tty. If you then login with the same user account on tty1 you should see all your X processes in (h)top or ps(tree) and you can kill any of them as needed. In other words, the same user account can be logged in multiple times on multiple ttys, but also must be logged in on each tty you wish to use - you log in to the tty, not to "the computer".
As for the immediate problem, is sounds like something in your bashrc, profile, or other start-up script is launching additional terminal emulators.

well what i was trying to do was learn how to kill the terminal task in xfce without logging completely out of the gui envrionment. I did add adb and my scripts folder to $PATH in .bashrc the other day. could that have caused this to happen? or do processes sometimes just go crazy and need to be killed?

How to drop a Mobile terminated MT call through applet

After I receive the event EVENT_EVENT_DOWNLOAD_MT_CALL. I am able to get the originating number and for instance to dsiplay the number. But what I want is to drop the MT call not to display the number. Is there any way to drop an MT call (like for MO call using envRspHdlr.postAsBERTLV((byte)0x9F, (byte)0x01);)?

[SOLVED] How to convince vim my terminal supports color?

Hi. I recently got a shell account from Kaitocracy on his linode machine. I noticed that my bash prompt has color, as expected, but when I copied over my vim configuration (which includes a color theme), it didn't work! After some toying around, I noticed that vim recognizes the terminal escape codes using `:hi <type> start= stop=`, but not the existing `cterm` commands in my color theme. To make things more confusing, I know my terminal (urxvt) is capable of using the cterm flags.
Also, Ctrl+L does not clear/redraw the screen as expected.
What can I do to fix these issues? Here are the configs:

To make matters more confusing, my vim theme works when I connect to the linode in a GNU screen session, but not when it's a straight-up terminal.

That's the peculiarity of the problem; when I run vim in my local environment, I always get color using the `:hi <hilighttype> ctermfg=* ctermbg=*` commands. This applies inside of X through rxvt-unicode (non-256color), GNU screen, and on the plain command line in vc1. This issue seems to be related to the remote environment and/or variables not being sent through ssh.
@moljac: When I echo'd TERM inside a screen session, it returned "screen", so I don't know whether it's legit or not.

Urgent :need help to setup Master to snapshot(read only) environement

Hi,
I need your help urgently. I don't know much about master to Snapshot configuration. I need to do prototype of master to snapshot(read only) as soon as possible. I need replication setup/configuration scripts.
DB1 is master database (8i) and DB1 is Snapshot site db.
both dbs are identical except they have different Global_name.
I want to replicate table from DB1---> DB2 unidirectional.
Global name for DB1 is DB1.world and for DB2 is DB2.world
TNS names are DB1 and DB2 respectively and TNSNAMES.ORA file is same on both server.
Schema owner of Mster site (who owns the tables that I want to replicate) is user 'SYNAPSE'. On DB2 I have also same schema with same tables. Lets say table called 'TEST' that I want to replicate from DB1 to DB2.
for simplicity I want to have only one account(user) on both site who can do administration and take care of all other task including replication.
I need scripts to do setup for the replication environment described above.
In short please provide me script to replicate DB1 to DB2 (Master to snapshot).

Finally I figured out how to setup/configure master to Snapshot environment but I have to say that Oracle documents are very confusing.
The problems I ran into are:
User Repadamin can't create MV in schema owner other than repadmin. Work arround I used is let that schemema owner allow to create MV.
Other proble ran in is Constraint(FK) violation when trying to do using refresh group. To resolve this problem either disable constraints on snapshot site or create constraints usinf deferred option.

How can I customize my terminal?[SOLVED]

I'm using xterm and /bin/zsh, but it looks ugly. It's a white background with a black text. On debian, I use to right click and hit preferences and went from there. But when I right click it just highlights the shell. How can I customize background color, change font, etc?

So I am either blind that I can't find it in the history option or it doesn't exist. It seems the options are remember history no limit or always to remove when closed. No need to crop your clips. The mask does the cropping of the upper clip.
To use the image mask, you need an image to place into the drop zone in the inspector. In your case you'd want a simple black to white gradient as the image mask and choose Luminance in the Image Mask source luminance pop-up. I'm attaching a sample gradient. The original was 1280x720 to match a 720p movie but the forum shrinks it down. This gradient was created in Photoshop in less than 30 seconds.
You import this gradient file into your event. Click on the Mask Source in the Image Mask effect and then click on the gradient file in your event list and click Apply Clip. Change the Mask Source to Luminance. Change the offset mask parameters to move where the gradient lines up in your movie.

There is no way to drop the datafiles once they are added to the tablespace. The command given by Asif , offline drop won't actually drop the datafile but would be an indication only to Oracle that you would be dropping the entire tablespace after issuing this command. In 11g, there is a command to drop the datafile but only if it's completely empty.

sql > alter database open ;What if the datafile have the segments in it, I believe users will not be able to access them. And system will put the datafile to Recovry mode not drop it.
Dropping a datafle is possible only in 10G. In 9i you can reduce the size of file below the size of your min extents so that the space wont be allocated from that datafile or you may need to recreate a new tablespace copy all the segments from old tablespace and drop old one.

SQL syntax permits you to specify only one table in a DROP TABLE command.
The SQL Command Processor permits you to run one statement or PL/SQL block per submission.
So there are at least two ways you can do this. You could either upload or create a SQL script in SQL Workshop which contains your multiple statements:
drop table "table1"
drop table "table2"
or you could execute a single anonymous PL/SQL block in the SQL Command Processor, as in:
begin
execute immediate 'drop table "table1"';
execute immediate 'drop table "table2"';
end;

As you said direct load takes place, then the rows which are inserted are always inserted above the HWM.So the datafile size size kept on increasing.
i read about segment advisor i run the advisor it shrink the segment but users tablespace size on OS still 200 GB could anyone tell why??You would have run alter table <table_name> shrink space; -- This statement will procede in two steps:
- The first step makes the segment compact by moving rows further down to free blocks at the beginning of the segment.
- The second step adjusts the high watermark. For this Oracle needs an exclusive table lock,but for a very short moment only.
The HWM goes below, and table are now more well organized.This command doesn't resize the datafile at the OS level.So, the datafile sizes will remain the same.One thing which you can do is resize(decrease) the datafile.
