[SOLVED] install by pacman in offline mode

I want to instal arch on a PC wich is not connected to a fast internet connection. i can install the base system by arch CD and pdate the database but it is very difficult to update the system and install gnome and other packages using its internet connection. i want to get the list of required packaes from this PC and download them by another PC which its OS is not arch and then transfer them to the first PC and do the update procerss and installing other packages. i had a look at https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=80404 but could not find the command to get the package list and their download links. i hope i can get a list that can be used to download the packages on ubuntu by axel or aria2 downloader.

pacman -pS <packagename>
This is literally documented in pacman's manpage btw:
-p, --print
Only print the targets instead of performing the actual operation (sync, remove or upgrade). Use --print-format to specify how targets are displayed. The default format string is "%l", which displays URLs with -S, filenames with -U and pkgname-pkgver with -R.

  • Installing Yammer App in offline mode.

We have SharePoint 2013 onpremise instance with internet on. I have successfully added "yammer app for sharepoint" on that instance and I can see that app in 'Manage app licenses' but when i try to add that app on any site collection
it gives the message "You can't add this app here". When I try to go to app details it say " Sorry, we can't seem to connect to the SharePoint Store. Try again in a bit" .
I have given appropriate proxy setting in web.config but in SharePoint ULS logs it gives error.

    Hi InderV,
According to your description, my understanding is that you got an error when you used Yammer app in SharePoint 2013.
Please make sure you have configured domain names, service applications, and URLs for apps for SharePoint 2013. And also make sure you have configured the Subscription Settings and App Management service applications.
More information, please refer to the link:

    I hope this helps.

  • When I install firefox version 4, it is in offline mode and I cannot open it. How do I get around this problem.

when I install firefox version 4, it is in offline mode and I cannot open it.

In version 3.6.17, click '''File''', then click '''Work Offline '''to remove the checkmark.
In version 4.0.x right click a blank part of the Tab Bar and then click "Menu Bar". This will reinstate the text links. Then do the same as above.
To revert to the layout without the text links, repeat the same steps.
Sometimes, in FF4, you can hit the ALT key to toggle the text links on and off, but I've noticed in posts from other users that it doesn't always work.

  • [Solved] pacman see's a tarball that I installed without pacman??

Okay, before the "you need to use pacman for that" comments begin, I've aparently been doing things the hard way.  I finally read up on the ABS.  Been putting it off because I thought it was only for making new packages to add to the database.  If it isn't in pacman, then I went straight to the AUR.  Couldn't find it there, I haven't installed it yet, until yesterday, when I took a tarball that I had for TeamViewer7, unpacked it, and ran it outside of pacman.
Well, I've got a better grasp on ABS now, so I've already taken the liberty of clubbing myself on the head.  But, funny thing.  I typed pacman -Qm and to my surprise, there sits TeamViewer7.  So.... pacman saw my install without running pacman??  I suppose it's possible that I tried to install through pacman with an AUR package but it was giving me problems so I scrapped it and installed my tar file.  Just curious why it's showing up on pacman.

Found it, thanks everyone.  I didn't think to use the query tool, still kind of new to pacman.  I dug through the man page real quick to find the info that I needed:

I am trying to search the web when I click on Firefox Icon this message shows up Offline Mode Fire Fox is currently in offline mode and can not browse web how do I fix this?

Firefox does not have a built-in "Run" option on downloads for security reasons. If you "Run" an item, your anti-virus/anti-spyware may not have an opportunity to fully examine the contents until it is already installed on your hard drive. Result: damage, if infected, is already installed on your system.
With that in mind, you can install the following add-on, but you accept the risk mentioned above ('''NOTE:''' the developer has not updated this product -- OR any of his other 7 extensions -- to be compatible beyond Firefox 3.6.x; therefore, when you upgrade to a more current version of Firefox, you may lose the functionality of the add-on if the developer does not update it.):

  • Firefox become in Offline mode and unable to open any page and when shut down it remains in processes and freez up, blocking another to be run

When I on my Laptop, Acer Aspire 5735 with Windows 7 Ultimate run Firefox all runs perfectly smooth, all is working as expected, but when I go to Sleep mode or Hibernate (Firefox remains open) after turning on Firefox is not active any more, all open tabs are there but surfing is unavailable. Firefox reports message that it is in Offline mode (but menu File > Work Offline is not checked and if I check it and uncheck it again it doesn't have any impact). Which means If I open new tab and write web address it wont open, if I click any link in opened tabs from before, it wont open anything and it will show message that Firefox is in offline mode. After that I shut down Firefox by using Close(x) button and it disappears from desktop but it remains in memory and active processes not allowing any other instance of Firefox to be run. Finally I shut it down on force (End process) and start another instance and all works perfect. I am not sure is this only my problem with hardware/software configuration so I wanted to share this.

This is a pain but I have resolved it. This is instructions for Windows 7 but it may be the same on other Operating systems.
Note: "''YOUR USERNAME''" relates to the account you log on to Windows with.
    # First go to control '''panel / folder options''' and ''uncheck'' ''''Hide extensions for known file types'''', ''check'' ''''Show hidden files and folders'''' and ''check'' ''''Show hidden operating system files'''' then click ''apply'' and ''OK''.
    # Go here :''' C:\Users\"YOUR USERNAME"\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\''' and copy the '''Profiles''' folder to your desktop.
    # Go here : '''C:\Users\"YOUR USERNAME"\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\''' and copy the '''Profiles''' folder to your desktop. You will need to rename this as you already have a Profiles folder so name it '''Profiles2'''.
    # Uninstall Firefox (''selecting to remove all user settings'') then go here: '''C:\Program Files\''' and delete the ''Mozilla Firefox'' folder.
    # Go here : '''C:\Users\"YOUR USERNAME"\AppData\Roaming''' and delete the ''Mozilla'' folder
    # Go here: '''C:\Users\"YOUR USERNAME"\AppData\Local\ '''delete the ''Mozilla'' folder.
    # Open another browser (i.e.'' Internet Explorer'') and download and install ''C-Cleaner'' here: [http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard]
    # Once installed run the ''''Registry cleaner'''' over and over until no problems are detected and exit the application. You may now uninstall it but it is probably one of the best free apps available as it has a better uninstaller than Windows does and controls which programs run when Windows starts without using the 'msconfig' command.
    # Now download the latest version of Firefox with your other browser and install it then run the application once and close it down.
    # Open the ''Profiles'' folder on your desktop and inside you will find one or more folders with a name ending in '''.default''' (i.e. ''uomifhku.default''). Once you have done that open the largest folder and make sure there is nothing in there with '''... @security.compass''' written on it. If there is then delete it. Hold your ''left'' mouse button and move your mouse pointer over all of the files to highlight in blue. Put your mouse cursor on any one of the files, ''right click'' and select 'Copy' to copy them all to system memory and then close the folder.
    # Go here: '''C:\Users\"YOUR USERNAME"\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles''' and find the folder ending in '''.default''' then open it. Now ''right click'' anywhere on the background in the main Payne containing the files and select 'paste'. When prompted to '''Overwrite Files''' and '''Merge Folders''' always accept and proceed. Start Firefox and if all is well you should be working again and it back in the state you left it last without the bug.

  • [SOLVED] Install to BtrFS already existing (but empty) subvolume

I currently have a Btrfs filesystem made up of /dev/sda5 and /dev/sda6. On that filesystem, there is an Ubuntu 11.10 install in the @oneiric_main subvolume and a data subvolume (with Ubuntu /home) in the @Data subvolume. Grub2 is installed in the @oneiric_main subvolume and works fine.
I would like to install arch to a new subvolume on the existing BtrFS filesystem. I would probably make a subvolume named @arch_2011.08 to install it on. (@arch is taken--I already tried to do this myself, installing using pacman -r <subvol_mount_point> -Sy base --ignore grub. Didn't work, has no initrd, kernel panics with VFS not syncing error) I would like to then boot Arch with Ubuntu's Grub2 since that install is working off BtrFS. How do I go about doing this?
On the install that failed, I generally tried to follow https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … Btrfs_root, but I didn't really need/want automatic snapshots, so I didn't think I wanted to install mkinitcpio-btrfs. For it my Grub2 entry is
    menuentry "Arch (on /dev/sda6)" --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os {
    insmod part_msdos
    insmod btrfs
    set root='(hd0,msdos6)'
    search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root d551dbac-3c7f-4f8f-a0d4-2d1f242cc42f
    linux /@arch/boot/vmlinuz-linux root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/d551dbac-3c7f-4f8f-a0d4-2d1f242cc42f rootflags=subvol=@arch ro
I've tried to chroot to the Arch install from Ubuntu and run mkinitcpio, but that gave an error that some directory was not valid. The directory it complained about had the Ubuntu kernel version in its name, so I figured I was doing something majorly wrong. Edit:I suppose it would help if I updated the /etc/fstab. I did, but I still get the same error. The first line is "Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)"
I'm not sure if I should try to fix the first install or just start again. Either way would get the goal:Arch installed on the BtrFS subvolume, booted with Ubuntu's Grub2.

@Teekay:I did mount /proc, /sys and /dev into the @arch subvolume before chrooting.
Here's what happens when I try to chroot into the Arch install to make an initrd:
    [root@dynl:~]# mount -o subvol=@arch /dev/sda5 /mnt
    [root@dynl:~]# cd /mnt
    [root@dynl:/mnt]# mount -o bind /dev dev
    [root@dynl:/mnt]# mount -o bind /sys sys
    [root@dynl:/mnt]# mount -o bind /proc proc
    [root@dynl:/mnt]# chroot .
chroot: failed to run command `/bin/zsh': No such file or directory
    [root@dynl:/mnt]# chroot . bash
bash: warning: setlocale: LC_ALL: cannot change locale (en_US.UTF-8)
    [root@dynl /]# ls
bin dev home lib64 mnt proc run srv tmp var
boot etc lib media opt root sbin sys usr
    [root@dynl /]# mount
    /dev/sda5 on / type btrfs (rw,relatime)
udev on /dev type devtmpfs (rw,relatime,size=693104k,nr_inodes=173276,mode=755)
sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw,nosuid, nodev, noexec, relatime)
proc on /proc type proc (rw,nosuid, nodev, noexec, relatime)
    [root@dynl /]# mkinitcpio
/bin/bash: warning: setlocale: LC_ALL: cannot change locale (en_US.UTF-8)
==> ERROR: '/lib/modules/3.1.0-030100rc10-generic' is not a valid kernel module directory
Update: I've made progress. Instead of chrooting from Ubuntu, I chooted from the arch installation live image. I was able to run mkinitcpio -p linux. I added an initrd line to grub2:
    menuentry "Arch (on /dev/sda6)" --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os {
    insmod part_msdos
    insmod btrfs
    set root='(hd0,msdos6)'
    search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root d551dbac-3c7f-4f8f-a0d4-2d1f242cc42f

    initrd /@arch/boot/initramfs-linux.img
    The new error is :

  • After update, firefox says I'm in offline mode

Update went smoothly but now I get an "offline mode" message and can't access the intrnet.

You need to un-check "Work Offline" (click it to check or un-check). Do one of the following:
*Firefox button > Web Developer >Work Offline
*File > Work Offline (if using the Menu Bar)
*ALT+F+W (check or un-checks without display; reverses current checked/un-checked state)

There is nothing "Basic" in that code. not the code and not the math.  And the correct honorific in this case would be "Doctor"  As in "more degrees than most thermometers" (Not that he doesn't play with large numbers of negative degrees that don't appear on most thermometers)

  • Nokia N8 locks when selecting offline mode

Any other N8 users experiencing similar functionality/problems?
I'm fairly certain that when I first got my phone, when selecting the Offline mode - which I do at night to save power - it just went into and out of it no problems.
I have since set up the remote locking feature and was asked to change my lock code from the default 12345 for obvious reasons.  However now when I enter the Offline mode the phone auto-locks.  Not a major issue as I just unlock it with my code, just more of an annoyance really.
I have made sure the setting to lock the phone when sim removed is off, to no avail. Any ideas?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Same here, and can confirm it does this when remote locking is enabled.
I would imagine it does this as going into offline mode is the same as taking the SIM out
and the phone thinks the SIM is being changed, so it is a security precautionI beleive.
    Cheers.

       Hi,
There is another option to set the work offline mode with out opening the project itself. I think in your case it is better to set this property prior to open the project, why because after changing in the solution still you find some errors related to work offline. So I think it is better to follow the steps in the given link to set work offline mode without opening the project.

Someone know how we can solve this conflict?
    Best Regards!

I'm sorry, I think I haven't made myself clear enough. The thing is that the User Action File has a "Composite Role" field and we don't know how fill it when the Single Role belongs to multiple Composite Roles. This is because of the primary key, we can't make multiple records for each userid/role combination, each one with one different Composite Role, such as the following example:
    USERIDX/ROLEX/ACTIONX/ACTIONX/PROFILEX/COMPOSITEROLE1
    USERIDX/ROLEX/ACTIONX/ACTIONX/PROFILEX/COMPOSITEROLE2
    USERIDX/ROLEX/ACTIONX/ACTIONX/PROFILEX/COMPOSITEROLEN
Should we instead do only one record with all the composite roles? What character should we use to separate the composite role names? A ",", a ";"? For example:
    USERIDX/ROLEX/ACTIONX/ACTIONX/PROFILEX/COMPOSITEROLE1_,_ COMPOSITEROLE2_,_ COMPOSITEROLE3
Hope I explained myself. Thanks for your help.

  • Using both power saving mode and offline mode caus...

So I am having a very strange problem. I have been using the Situations App (formerly Nokia Situations) to automatically put my phone into offline mode, and power saving mode over night. 9pm to 6:30am.
Recently the phone as started refusing to leave the offline mode in the morning. Even if I try to change the profile manually it says "Unable to change profile". The only way I can get out of offline mode is to reboot.
I uninstalled Situations, and manually put the phone into offline mode and power saving mode. By the morning I had the same issue, stuck in offline mode until reboot. So it's not the App causing the problem. I've tried a soft reset, same problem still.
I also noticed that over-night (from fully charged before 9pm) to 6:30am I used about 70% of my charge. (A combination of power saving mode and offline mode is killing my battery!)
I would have to go to work and immediately put my phone on charge! I.e.. 12 hours of offline + power save has drained my battery almost completely.
Last night I decided to use the Situations App to put the phone into offline mode, BUT NOT activate power save mode.
This morning the phone had virtually full charge and it had no problem returning to online mode. So it's ONLY if I use BOTH power-save and offline. (Tonight I will try using power-saving mode and NOT offline mode to see if it's only the power-saving mode causing the issue!)
If I manually enter offline+power-save mode, and then try to return to on-line/non-power-save mode, relatively quickly, i.e.. Not over-night, everything is fine. It's only over night the problems start!
    Any help?
    Rob
PS. I also have the problem where using HSPA+ causes my phone to drop from the network and stop being able to receive/make phone calls. But disabling HSPA+ works around this for now, I think this problem is unrelated however.

I have a similar problem. My 808 PureView loses 70% of its charge overnight if I leave it in normal profile without power-saving. To deal with this issue, I started using the situations app to put the phone in power saving mode overnight. That solved the problem (although I never put my phone to offline mode). This is a weird problem because throughout the day my phone doesn't use 70% of charge, but it does overnight while doing nothing!
I have also experienced the second problem, losing cellular and internet connection, on my 808. I have started a thread to deal with this issue.
