[SOLVED] Keybinding to rotate video in mpv

Many people take videos with mobile phones these days, and many mobile phones have a vertical orientation, which means many videos are sideways. I know I can fix this at the command line with "mpv --vf=rotate=1 filename.mp4" but...
Is there a keybinding for mpv to rotate a video during playback? Is it possible to create one in my "~/.mpv/input.conf" file?

Thanks, worked perfectly! I decided to make "~/.mpv/input.conf" like this:
# Rotate by 90 degrees clockwise
Alt+RIGHT no-osd vf add rotate=1
# Rotate by 90 degrees counterclockwise
Alt+LEFT no-osd vf add rotate=2

  • Is there a way to rotate video on export through Media Encoder?

My company produces a fair amount of content for vertical screens (i.e. 16x9 screen rotated 90º clockwise).  All the content is produced and delivered as 1920x1080p video (with the content rotated 90º counter-clockwise) so that we can work with standard broadcast equipment.
It's a minor step in our workflow but when we send out web approvals, first we have to drop the edit sequences into another 1080x1920 sequence and export that.  It would be nice if Media Encoder had an input setting or effects option to rotate video so we can avoid that step.

Doubtful (in fact very unlikely). You can check the app store for something - I beleive there are one or two that mirror a desktop to the iPad - but the only readily available "outside source" for an iOS device is steaming by way of a cloud or web source.

  • Why does the frame of my rotated video not rotate also?

I've checked these forums and followed the method to rotate a video that turned out to be rotated 90 degrees. When I rotated the video it rotated all right but the frame is still vertical portrait format and did not rotate also. What I wind up with is a tall vertical frame that has a properly rotated video that has both ends cropped off. Any other videos I now add to the timeline are also inside of this tall frame and also cropped off because the frame is tall and narrow, not rotated with the image.
How do I go about doing this correctly? Is it possible to just rotate a video that has turned on its side and have the format or frame rotate also?
    TIA, Ken

It never ceases to amaze me the odd hours that the loyal Adobe staff puts in. Look at the time stamp on Mark's post.
To be more specific, just in case other people come along with the same question, create the sequence from your clip first. That will make it the right size and shape and frames per second to match up with your video.
You can do this by dragging the clip to the "New Item" button or just right-click on the clip in the project panel and select "New Sequence From Clip".
Once you have the perfect sequence just change it from this:
    To this:
Then you can use the Motion effect on the clip to rotate it 90 degrees (or minus 90 degrees).
Unfortunately, you can't, as far as I know, rotate the clips in the project panel. Only in the sequence. So one possible solution, and it depends on the clips and your workflow, is to put all of the clips on the timeline, rotate them all by rotating the first one and copying the attributes to all of the others at one time. You can then take that sequence into the Source monitor and use it just like a clip. That is one of the great things about nested clips. From there you can cut it up into smaller clips if you so desire. It doesn't seem to be possible to create actual subclips from a sequence, but you cam mark the in and out points and drag them to the project panel, then rename them if so desired.
Some of my friends here on the forum seem to hate the concept of video shot in portrait mode on a phone or a video camera. However, there are times when it makes perfect sense to me. Especially when it is going to be displayed on a monitor that is oriented in portrait mode. Lots of advertising done that way. And who says that video on a web site has to be landscape? Why would you shoot the Eiffel Tower of the new Freedom Tower in landscape mode?
If you are shooting video of a person standing and talking to put on the side of a web page, portrait makes more sense.
    Anyway, I hope this helps.

  • How do I add this effect to a rotated video [pic]

I have a rotated video which now has black bars on either side which looks like so:
How do I make it so the black bars on the sides are the right & left sides of the actual video appearing blurred?
    Like this:
I don’t want to have to zoom to fit. Thanks!

There are some advantages to using two different background images as shooternz pointed out.
Some footage would benefit by not scaling it up and just reversing it on each side, just for one example.
To do that you could put one clip on track one. Then flip it using the Horizontal Flip effect and blur it up. Take that and using the position parameters of the Motion effect, slide it over to the left so that it will just barely be slightly covered by the top clip in the middle.
On track two, flip another copy, blur it, and scoot it off to the right.
On track three, put on the original.
Having said that, now I feel compelled to actually do it. I just shot a picture of some flowers with my cell phone for this purpose. Note that one side has more blooms than the other. So in the image below, you just catch a hint of the larger blooms next to the larger blooms and the smaller next to the smaller, and you should be able to tell, if you look closely that they are reversed.
Now, of course, deciding if you want to do this depends entirely on the footage.

  • Rotating video files

When photographing using a video camera I occasionally rotate the camera by 90 degrees, especially if the subject is higher than it is wide.  However, when importing the resulting video file into LR3 the images are rotated and must be edited with an external editor so they can be viewed correctly.  Does LR4 have the capability of editing video files in order to rotate the images by 90 degrees?
As an example, I used my Canon S95 to record a video file of the Old Faithful geyser at Yellowstone last Spring, and rotated the camera in order to take advantage of the portrait versus landscape mode.  However, when importing into LR3 the images were on their sides.  I had to use an external editor to rotate the images so that Old Faithful was up-and-down instead of lying on its side.
    Thanks,

  • Rotating Video Playback within SWF

At playback I am rotating a video (FLV) from a landscape to a

a technical perspective, does flash just rotate the video on the

Are there any known issues with rotating video using

  • Rotate video in iMovie HD

I just recently upgraded my old macbook and I use to use the older version of iMovie no problem, but now I am trying to learn the new ways in iMovie HD.  I am adding pictures to my timeline and I added a video but I can't figure out how to rotate it.  I tried downloading the turn clip but had no luck.  HELP PLEASE

    This is in iMovie 6?
MPEG Streamclip can rotate video while maintaining the aspect ratio as well as the interlacing when converting to DV, which is what iMovie prefers as an input:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
There is also a plug-in for iMovie 6 from GeeThree called rotate/scale that might do the job:

  • Rotating Video Images

When my Panny ZS7 records audio with a still image, the result is a video clip consisting of a low resolution copy of the image and an attached audio track. A full resolution copy of the image is imported separately. So far, so good.
The problem I'm facing is that the still image attached to the audio clip is the original image without rotation, and I can't find a way to adjust the rotation. If the image was taken in portrait format (camera tilted +/-90 degrees from horizontal), the image in the video clip is tilted at 90 degrees.
Aperture doesn't have a feature that allows me to adjust this. I've tried importing into iMovie 11 (not that I particularly want to do video editing), but it doesn't have the capability to rotate video by 90 degrees either.
Has anyone here found a work around?

    Hi,
Do you have a licence for Quicktime Pro? You can rotate video in Quicktime 7, if you have an upgrade licence, as  niklasfrombristol recently discovered - see this thread. Correct AnswerRe: iMovie edits don't show in Aperture.
iMovie 11 can rotate video by 90 degrees, I have already used that option, but you need to reimport the file iMovie exports. The quicktime solution is much mor convenient.

  • Rotate Video

    Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has managed to rotate the video
player by 90 degrees on a handset? I need to rotate a video from
protrait view to fullscreen landscape view.
It seems when you rotate the video object by 90 degrees on
stage, the video player stays the same. Looks like we need a way to
phisically rotate the Real Player by 90 degrees, (using an external
script, like when 'landscape' mode is turned on on the handset.)
    Any ideas?
    Cheers.

    Hi Insomniak ,
Thanks for the suggestion, but I can rotate the Video Object
on stage fine. The problem I have is that the Real Player that
phisically plays the video does not rotate. So when I rotate the
Video Object, the actual video just plays the same way around.
Try a test to see what I mean.
There is some C++ code to rotate video on a handset, but
without any C++ experience I have no idea how to get this to work.
Anyone here with C++ experience who can recommend a solution?
    Cheers

  • LR4: rotate video

Is there any way you can rotate video in LR4? If not, any tips?
(No need to tell me I shouldn't shoot video in vertical, the damage is already done and I have a small handfull of them *roll eyes* )

Thanks Dusty, that worked. Well, sort of. The top and bottom gets cropped but that's better than having to rotate the screen
I know I need to learn more about video formats (and PS) but I tried 3 different outputs, none with great result
The original clip is .MOV (180mb)
export as mpeg-4: bad quality and NO sound (on highest quality), small file (14Mb)
export as .MOV: VERY jerky to the point it's un-watchable but good sound (could be a screen issue?) and HUGE file (5.6Gb)
export as AVI: good quality but NO sound, very large file (2.8Gb)
Not sure why there was no sound in mpeg-4 and AVI. The settings indicated that the sound should be there...

  • Rotate video footage

    Hi,
Looking for some way to rotate video footage from my Nikon camera in iPhoto or iMovie.

    Hi RDAsheville,
You can use Quicktime Pro to rotate the video.
Open the file in QuickTime Player Pro.
Choose Get Movie Properties from the Movie menu (or press Command-J).
Select Video Track from the left-hand popup menu.
Select Size from the right-hand popup menu.
Use one of the rotate buttons (the circular arrows) to rotate the clip.
Save the file, then import it back into iMovie or iPhoto.

  • How Do you rotate videos in iPhoto without having to use Quicktime Pro?

I took videos from a concert and I'm wanting to make a video on iMovie with a mix of pictures and videos but i took pretty much all of my videos vertically
    How can I rotate them?
I can't buy Quicktime Pro so is there any other way?
    Help much appreciated!

There is no way to do this with iPhoto.

  • [SOLVED] no webm video with mpv

For some reason I get no video playing vp8 encoded file with mpv. All other video formats play fine but with webm files I only seem to get audio playback and no video.
I reinstalled my system recently and webm files played fine before that, so I might be just missing some library that I don't know of. libvpx is installed and up to date though.
