Solved the problem is very simple - removing the nouveau. I have it was because I was in one blog/forum read that no problem with containing both nvidia and nouveau, but that one of them will be in Blacklist. But he interrupted me to upgrade. But the strangest thing - when I last updated, they do not conflict, but now whoop.
Thanks TigTex and wonder for your help!

I've read threads on this before but this time nvidia-utils is being asked to be removed. I'm not sure if removing nvidia-utils is safe. Before, reading some threads on here, I had to set libgl to ignore to get nvidia-utils to install.
    Thanks.

I've looked it up and seen many similar scenarios (with nvidia-libgl instead of nvidia-libgl-beta), but they all seemed to be resolved by uninstalling nouveau; I don't have that installed.
Any ideas as to where I should go from here?

Well, I quoted the 'full output of pacman' - there was no code in it.
When pasting configs, code or command output, please use [ code ] tags https://bbs.archlinux.org/help.php#bbcode
    like this
It makes the code more readable and - in case of longer listings - more convenient to scroll through.
It is important you post it in full, even (or especially) when it's so short. You should include the command you used, not just the output.

Find out which package is it.
Why should an already installed package trying to install another package afterwards?
You are installing new versions of some packages. They may have different dependencies from the versions you have currently installed, so you will end up installing some new packages too.

  • Two GPUs, two purposes - libgl and nvidia-utils conflict - lib32-libgl

    Hi all!
After realizing there is no way (by now) to perform a vgs switch (between integrated Intel and discrete Nvidia GPUs) using nvidia propertary driver (as I read, the only one supporting gpgpu with cuda/openCL), I wondered if there is a way of letting them co-exist: graphics on the integrated one and applications on the nvidia. After all, I might not need to be using the discrete card for the video if I want to use it for other purposes.
Obeviously, the tho drivers conficlt (nvidia-utils conflicts with libgl), but in this post a workaround is suggested.
Thing is, also lib32-nvidia-utils and lib32-libgl (Skype depends on it) conflict, so I thought I could just extend the suggestion, but I couldn't find lib32-libgl's pkgbuild. Where can I find it? If it doesn't exist at all, is there a way I can workaround?
By the way, why aren't libgl and lib32-libgl on abs? In what way are they different from the others?
There is libgl-git in AUR, but I couldn't find the 32-bit version.
Do you think I have a chanche it'll work?
    Thanks a lot

So you think it'll never work
Actually, it is working now. It's a recent development posted in the mailing lists, but the solution came up yesterday and tests have been positive so far. It's confirmed to work in at least two Optimus machines.
Progress is being posted in the mailing lists, but the author, Martin Juhl, is also blogging it. I'll just sum up what the solution: It resorts to turbojpeg  VirtualGL and two xorgs. The intel card does everything, and apps meant to use the nvidia are specifically run with vglrun.
Unfortunately, the solution removes hardware acceleration in the intel card (immediately noticeable by the absence of desktop effects). In arch that translates the libgl / nvidia-utils conflict.
    intel-dri demands libgl.
    xf86-video-intel demands intel-dri.
In order to install nvidia + nvidia-utils in Arch, without removing intel-dri and xf86-video-intel, you have to:
    # pacman -Sd nvidia nvidia-utils
This will still remove libgl, though.
Now THAT is just cool... would make optimus laptops so much more useful if/when it works reasonably well. Sounds like quite a bit of hackery involved though.

:: libbaloo4 and baloo are in conflict (baloo<=4.14.0-1)
So does anyone know how I can fix this problem so that I can update all the packages on my system?
I don't have any baloo packages installed right now.  I ran "pacman -Q | grep baloo" and it showed nothing.
I looked into it a little bit:
I'm using KDE, and some of their packages depend on baloo-widgets (which must be a recent change), so that is probably the root cause of my problem.
    baloo-widgets is at 4.14.0-1.
    baloo is at version 4.14.0-1.
baloo4-widgets is at version 4.14.0-1, provides replaces and conflicts with baloo-widgets,
libbaloo4 is at version 4.14.0-3, and conflicts with baloo<=4.14.0-1
baloo4 is at version 4.14.0-3, conflicts with baloo<=4.14.0-1, and is supposed to provide and replace baloo.
The three baloo4 packages were updated less than 24 hours ago by Andrea Scarpino (2014-09-13 07:35 UTC).  I'm not sure when they were created.
This thread from 11 hours ago seems to be related: baloo4 update and not more necessary.
I don't update my Arch system very often. It's possible that the last time I updated was before 2014-08-20, which was the last time the old baloo packages were updated.
I tried to install baloo4-widgets manually but got a weird error:

Removing a package from a repository doesn't seem like a very nice thing to do, but is that how things are done in the Arch world?  Does it need to be removed so that all the packages listing a dependency on "baloo" will use "baloo4" instead?  I would prefer if packages never got deleted so I could restore my system to any arbitrary point in the past.

  • [SOLVED]Wine and nvidia-96xx

Hi. Just switched to arch from Debian, loving it so far. First major problem I ran into is, of course, wine related.
Trying to get Diablo 2 running in wine. I have an ancient nVidia Geforce 4 Ti 4800 card in my machine, because I couldn't get my (slightly newer, but still ancient) ATI Radeon X1650 running in Debian. Had no problem with the nVidia card on Debian with the same wine version.
Error: API mismatch: the NVIDIA kernel module has version 96.43.14, but this NVIDIA driver
component has version 190.42. Please make sure that the kernel module and all NVIDIA
driver components have the same version.
I've browsed the repos and AUR looking for a legacy version of lib32-nvidia, googled some, but no solution as yet. Am I going to have to go with open source drivers or build my own drivers, or is there a nice simple solution to this?
    Oh, almost forgot, I'm running 2.6.31-ARCH x86_64.
EDIT: Solved this. Made a lib32-nvidia-utils-96xx which I uploaded to AUR if anyone else needs it.

Cracked it. For whatever ridiculous reason, wine didn't want to run apps off my other hard drive, whether I symlinked the D2 dir or mounted it. Copying Diablo 2 to the drive where I have arch installed solved the problem. Guess I'll file a bug with wine. Now to erase Debian from my life (well, almost, it's still running on my server ). Thanks for all the help guys!

I am installing arch on my main desktop on which I have a nvidia 6800 LE. I used wiki and almost everything works fine. However I am used to have xcompmgr running with awesome wm. But my xorg configuration for my geforce 6800 LE should be not correct because it's not working at all.

I was wondering if you had an idea of the cause of this non functioning. Moreover if someone has a good working xorg for geforce 6800 LE, you would be happy to know about it.
Thanks a lot for you help,

  • [SOLVED] WINE and NVIDIA issues - scrolling away from fullscreen

Hello again... more problems from me.
I seem to have a problem with my WINE running fullscreen applications, such as games. When I start, say, a fullscreen game, it does start in fullscreen, but if I move my mouse to the right or bottom edge of the screen, the game screen "scrolls away", and I'm shown my desktop (at a lower resolution). When I pull my mouse/touchpad back to the left or upper edge, the screen returns.
I'd love to post screenshots of this, but those show nothing useful
(which leads me to a suspicion there might me something wrong with my display configuration - but this is only a suspicion.)
It happens regardless of Compiz or any other window manager, and regardless of the "Graphics" settings in winecfg. This is only the case with WINE; I've tried some native fullscreen games, which work flawlessly.
This is really annoying, as it renders most of the games unplayable.
I have an NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics card, and am running the 64-bit Arch Linux. Here's my xorg.conf and my Xorg.0.log.
I'd be very grateful if someone could help me with this. Thanks!

there was also a workaround I came to, but it was a messy one compared to this. the idea was to make a batch script for every game I would install, which would first call the xrandr <resolution>, then wine the game, and after that xrandr back to my desktop resolution. needless to say I had this as a last resort, since this would mess up changing the ingame resolution, and don't even get me started about the mess it makes on the desktop

  • [SOLVED] xorg update has broken nvidia-173xx driver

    Hi,
I've been using arch for around 2 and a half months on 2 computers (a dell Inspiron 2200 and an old home built pc). So far I've been able to figure out most things myself.  However, following today's xorg update x seems to be broken. My laptop, which does not use nvidia, seems to be fine. On the pc i installed the i686 version and am running kde 4.5.1
I have reinstalled nvidia-173xx and nvidia-173xx-utils, and run nvidia-xconfig but this has not helped any.
Although the installation is carried out there is an error stating:
ERROR: Module nvidia does not exist in /proc/modules In order to use the new nvidia driver, exit xserver and unload it manually
A google search on the above error didn't advance me any further, either.
I have also waited for today's kernel update but that hasn't seemed to fix things.
If I run "startkde" i get an error message stating that it can't connect to the x server.
"startx" says much the same only more verbose.
/var/log/Xorg.0.log has the following information :
    dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nvidia_dvr.so undefined sym$
    failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nvidia_dvr.so
    unloadable module "nvidia"
failed to load module "nvidia" (loader failed, 7)
I've done a lot of esearch but can't find any solutions to my issue. The following thread seems to be related :
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=103716
but i can't seem to find an answer there either.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Cheers

    ok, went to downgrade using
    #pacman -U ...
but i have yet another error due to a conflict between files :
xorg-server: /usr/lib/xorg/protocol.txt is already present in the file system
xorg-server: /usr/share/man/Xserver.1.gz is already present on the file system
xorg-server; /usr/share/xkb/README.compiled is afready present in the file system
is it possible to safely force the installation?
sorry if thatś a lazy question but I've been looking at this for so long that i can't fathom the idea of futher searching.
EDIT: ok, i had a break and realised it'd be safer to simply rename and the delete the problematic files. The downgrade went fine. I have X back.
    thanks for the help.

  • [SOLVED] Build nvidia-173xx (173.14.31-7) for linux-ck-kx (3.4.1-2)

I need a bit of help here. For a few months I have been using the proprietary nvidia-173xx driver for my old NV34 / GeForce FX 5200 (I have a downgraded xorg-1.10 and a compatible nvidia-173xx-utils (173.14.31-1)).
I have four kernels, and I used to be able to build the nvidia-173xx module without problems for all four kernels.
However, after the recent upgrade from linux-ck-kx-3.3 to linux-ck-kx-3.4 I can no longer build the nvidia-173xx for this kernel (but it still builds fine for the three other kernels on my system).
Here is the error I receive:
    $ makepkg -sfci

    make: *** [module] Error 2
==> ERROR: A failure occurred in build().
    Aborting...
I don’t know what to make of this error ; I’ve looked in `/lib/modules/<kernel-versions…>…' but I don’t see any file named `Rules.make' in there…
Here are the files I use for building the modules (they are all slightly customized PKGBUILDs based on AUR/nvidia-173xx) :
    core/linux               --> PKGBUILD  --> nvidia.install
    core/linux-lts           --> PKGBUILD  --> nvidia.install
    AUR/linux-lts-ck       --> PKGBUILD  --> nvidia.install
    repo-ck/linux-ck-kx  --> PKGBUILD  --> nvidia.install
In this list, #1-3 still build without a hitch, only #4 throws the error I pasted above. Ideas? Thanks in advance!

Well nevermind, I don’t know what I was doing wrong before, but with yesterday’s update of nvidia-173xx (patch not longer required) and nvidia-173xx-utils in the AUR, I was able to upgrade to X.org-1.12, and I re-built the nvidia module for all my kernels. I now have a fully current arch system, yay !
In case this is useful to anyone, here are the slightly modified PKGBUILD and nvidia.install that I used (based on natrio’s package in the AUR)

  • Running Intel HD Graphics for UI and Nvidia GT640m for CUDA

    Hello,
I wanted to configure my laptop with arch64 in such a way that I can run all the UI stuff on the Intel integrated video card and still being able to debug my CUDA application without having my desktop freezing. But there's conflict between libgl and nvidia-utils.
When libgl is installed then GNOME shows up in good quality, but CUDA doesn't work. On the other side, when nvdiai-utils is installed GNOME goes to fallback mode and the CUDA stuff runs.
In the first case, the nvidia cuda driver aren't loaded. In the second case, Cuda works, but i don't know on which device the desktop stuff is executed. How do I find out? How to run both side by side?
    The devices:
    Intel HD Graphics 4000 (i7 3610QM) for X
Nvidia GT 640m only for CUDA.
    Thank you for your time.

Since I have only mathematical computations to do, I solved it like that:
The proposed solution with AUR package, contains old dev-drivers for x64. The same for the nvidia website. Only the nvidia and nvidia-utils package from extra are up to date.
So I downloaded the nvidia packages (nvidia and nvidia-utils) and installed them, then i installed cuda-sdk and cuda-toolkit from community. After that I unzipped nvidia and nvidia-utils to some folder, removed the files conflicting with Intel's OpenGL and forced the removal of nvidia and nvidia-utils. Then I copied the unpack files to their intended place and reinstalled Intel's OpenGL package.
It works for purely local numerical computations. Note that OpenGL can not be execute on this machine, but development is possible.

I get an error message when I try to install nvidia-173xx driver:

What can I do to install it correctly?

Looks like you can choose from :
-contact the maintainer to see if you can help with getting it to work with kernel 3.16
    - downgrade the kernel
    - switch to nouveau
Note that there are comments on the aur page that state nvidia-173xx doesn't work with xorg 1.16, so you may have to downgrade more then just the kernel.
