[SOLVED] Media players licenses

I noticed some issues about software patents in general (e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPlayer#Legal_issues and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VLC_media_player#Legality) concerning media players.
Can you suggest me a way to avoid those issues? Are gstreamer-based players free from those troubles?
Thank you

Agreed.
I'll give an example of why ignoring this is helpful. I bought an internal Blu-Ray drive mainly so that I could get larger physical copies of my data, but I thought that it would be cool to check out a few movies. I got a gift card for my birthday and picked up a couple of movies from a local retailer. I couldn't play either. What? I legally paid for the hardware and I legally paid for the movies at full price from the retailters that I used. I did exactly what a Windows or Mac user would do, and yet I can't use my purchases for watching legal content?
It turns out that if the designer of any player doesn't get charged as well, that things aren't going to work out for honest people using that player some times. So, when you legally buy a movie, expect that it will only teach you about all of the other licensing fees that were assumed that someone would pay. Do you ever wonder how the film industry in America had gotten so powerful that when the end user is still doing the right thing that penalties would still incur?

  • Asio Driver issue in Premiere Pro CC conflicting with all other media players on PC

Whenever I have Premiere or audition or After effects opened---- should I want to play a media clip on J River Media center, or Windows Media Player, the Asio driver is locked by the Adobe products, so the other media players do not have access to it. This may be a new windows 8.1 phenomenon, as i never had this before with 64 bit Windows 7.
I have had some success running the other media players on the lousey windows sound drivers, but they don't sound nearly as good as the Asio driver does, with its near zero latency.
My sound card is a Lynx aes 16, and the Win 8.1 PC pushes the digital audio out to my Berkely DAC , then to separate mono bloc amps, into  Magnepan speakers as the reference audio system for my music and video editing....or for  entertainment listening :-)
Does anyone have a solution that will force the Adobe CC software to release the Asio driver when I try to use J River Media center, or some other media player?

I had this problem this evening 090813 after upgrading my Adobe Cloud Desktop.
I open Pro CC and had the  Dolby Audio Decode Licensing Restriction for (File name.......... )       Error
Previous CC progs loaded and worked with problem.
I uninstalled Pro CC - Restarted the computer - Re-installed Pro CC.
    Now working with no problem.
    Hope this helps.

  • Need help with Media Players, please.

I have a mid-2007 iMac OS X 10.9.3 (Maverick) still in perfect shape, except for what I may have just messed up.
I was trying to watch a video on VeeHD and it said that I needed the VeeHD plug-in.  From some research I did, I learned that the newer versions of DivX don't play well with Apple and that older versions worked better.  So, I uninstalled my DivX player (and everything DivX) from my computer and installed the recommended earlier version 14.  I'm still having the same problem.  I use Safari as my main browser because Firefox was giving me problems with loading times and buffering.
I'm wondering what I did wrong because now, no matter what video content I try to play, I get a gray box with HTML5 in it instead of the usual "Play" button (the triangle).  Once I click on HTML5, it then says FLASH and I have to click that to get the video to load.  Even on YouTube.  No matter what I do now, I can't get this to change back to the way it was and pages in general are taking longer to load and buffer.  I tried repairing permissions.  I'm afraid I may have deleted a plug-in that I shouldn't have and don't know which one.
Does anyone have any suggestions, please?  I'm afraid I've put my foot in it.  Also, which media players should I have or which ones are the best?  Which one is the best default player?  I have an updated Flash Player, Perian, VLC, Mac Media Player, DivX v.14, FLV Crunch, and Quicktime.  Too many?  Am I missing some?  I watch videos on different sites like Firedrive, GorillaVid, BestStream, MightyUpload, YouTube, etc.,  I've never had any problems until I messed around with my DivX player (the only player I had trouble viewing with, until now.)
All helpful, constructive suggestions and advice will be greatly appreciated!

That's exactly what it was.  I had ClickToFlash downloaded.  I've had it for awhile and it didn't affect any of my video watching until I uninstalled DivX.  I wonder why.
Now that I understand ClickToFlash, the only thing I like about it is that it prevents videos from playing automatically when a page is loaded.  But, I uninstalled it and the loading and buffering delays went away.  Thanks very much!
I meant to click "This solved my problem" on your post instead of "This helped me."  How can I change that?

  • Muted/Muffled audio on all Media Players after upgrade to iTunes 7.0.1.8

In the past few days I have upgraded my version of iTunes to 7.0.1.8. I am now noticing new audio playback issues I have not seen up until my upgrade.
When playing back a large majority of my library, the audio on an MP3 becomes muted/muffled at various points in the song. I thought my speakers were damaged, so I tried the same MP3 files in both Windows Media Player and Creative Media Player. I found that the other two media players had muting/muffling at the exact same points in the songs.
The interesting this is that this issue never occureed until I upgraded to the latest iTunes. In addition, the exact same MP3 files sound perfect when played on my Nano.
Did iTunes corrupt a DLL file on my PC? Since this problem started I have updated the drivers on my Creative Labs Audigy 2 Platinum Pro, have not seen any improvement.

Thank you for describing the problems so well. I also have been going nuts trying to restore my Itunes Library to its original (or acceptable) condition. I have a 5th gen 30G Video with about 4250 songs on it. After downloading 7 I found that every song in my Library had been dulplicated or triplicated. Then, a day latr, when I had downloaded album art, I discovered that every other song in any album I had downloaded (from Itunes or my own cd)prior to perhaps version 5 or version 6 could not be found. Luckily, I had an generation 4 Ipod with the original Library and I was able to download that to my external harddrive. I have spending pointless, arduous hours pointing Itunes to the correct file. Its faster to re-download the CD. Of course, I can't do that for any music I had bought from Itunes directly. Its weird because the name of the song is in Itunes, just the file can't be found. And why every other file? When I go into earlier (6 and before)Itunes Libraries, the music files are missing from them. Where did they go? When I try to sync my Ipod with Itunes, it takes forever because Itunes is searching for the missing files. I have tried to ask Apple support directly but I have gotten no response. Very, very frustrating! Any headway with your problems? Lisa

  • 2 white areas are visibly different in some media players/Youtube, but not others/Vimeo!

    Thank you for stopping by.
It's like I have a ghost in Premiere!
I uploaded the same video to Youtube and Vimeo and it looks totally different!
Youtube shows the problem, Vimeo doesn't -
    Youtube:
    Vimeo:
Any ideas why the screen capture background (recorded with Screencast-o-matic) appears darker in Youtube?
Brightening it up in Premiere has no effect - Premiere shows both backgrounds as being pure white - so why does Youtube (and some media players - such as VLC player, depending on what video rendering settings are applied) show this difference in hue and do you know how I can export the video (which is h264) so that there's no possible way this can happen?
    Thank you for any leads!
    PS. Premiere Pro CC (v7.0.0 - 342)

    I'm back!
    With some results...
If this box in VLC is checked, the mis-matching whites exists.
If unchecked, the powerpoint background become exactly as bright as the camcorder video in the corner.
(The reason things also look green & generally extra dim in the top screenshot  is because I applied your video limiter adjustment layer Richard,
which didn't seem to affect the mis-match issue unfortunately)
So, it seems like something to do with YUV / RGB conversions maybe? or mis matching?
Hopefully useful research! Still not sure how to export from Premiere in a way that eliminates the risk of these 2 whites appearing differently, regardless of player/settings.
In case useful, here's what MediaInfo tells me about the

    Hi,
When you use "Save As" you are essentially saving the whole project file. Not exporting. So what you need to do export your movie to a format that your media players like.

  • Do I need to download Real or Win Media Players

I have attempted to download "Arkansas Week" found at AETN.org. The applications provided Real or Win media players. Do I need one of the them on my iMac?

    Hi
I would say so, and I would go for Real Player.
    Download Real Player
Windows Media Player is no longer supported though, I believe, you can still get version 9. Read about that at
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/otherproducts/otherproducts.aspx?pid=windowsmedia Most people now download Flip4Mac
There's a link to Windows Media Player 9 for Mac on the website (the long link).

  • After downloading iTunes all media players have choppy playback

I got a new computer and my CD and DVD playback was great until I downloaded iTunes. Now all my CDs and DVDs play back choppy/stuttering/etc. on any media players that came with my computer and iTunes. I know it is a software issue, but I don't know much else.
    Can anyone help me please??

Just an off the cuff suggestion: Have you run your Windows updater since you got your computer? Do you have all the most recent available drivers for your computer's components? You should be able to check your computer mfg's website to verify this.
Good luck! (And be patient, I'm sure others will chime in with other suggestions as well!)

  • Access permissions to external hard disks and media players

I've recently purchased an iMac. I have a number of external disks and media players that when connected are not allowed write access. When I use the disk utility I cannot change the permission from read only. Whats the solution to changing them to read and write access?
    Thanks

    Hi Kieran
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
You can not write to them because they a formatted windows NTFS.
    See > http://www.macworld.com/article/51972/2006/07/ww_drives.html
If you want to use an external disk with both PC's and Mac's, you will need to re-format it MS-DOS/FAT-32.
If you wish to use them with only the Mac's, you will need to Format then GUID partition/Mac OS X.
    See > http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/partitioningtiger.html
    *+Proceed with caution when re-formatting disks+:*
    1. Before re-formatting any drive you will need to backup the current data on it to a computer or another drive, because re-formatting will erase all the data on the drive.
    2. Fat-32 has a file size limit of 4GB and will not allow single file transfers greater than 3.7 or 3.8GB.
    3. You may not be able to change the format or write to many media players without special software.

  • Set all media players in a document to start on page opening

How can I set all the existing media players (mp3 files) in a document to start playing on page opening and stop on page closing

    Hi, Trevor!
Did you consult the online DOM documentation for something like that?
    I found the following:
    http://help.adobe.com/livedocs/acrobat_sdk/10/Acrobat10_HTMLHelp/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/ww help.htm?href=JS_API_AcroJS.88…
    http://help.adobe.com/livedocs/acrobat_sdk/10/Acrobat10_HTMLHelp/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/ww help.htm?href=JS_API_AcroJS.88…
Using AnnotRichMedia instead of media could be the key. Since media seems to be outdated, deprecated or something…
I'm out in the dark like you are with Acrobat and JS. Just consulted some of my bookmarks pointing at the SDK of Acrobat.
    Some dummy-code:
    var myRichMediaObjects = myDoc.getAnnotsRichMedia(nPage);
    Properties of AnnotRichMedia object:
    http://help.adobe.com/livedocs/acrobat_sdk/10/Acrobat10_HTMLHelp/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/ww help.htm?href=JS_API_AcroJS.88…
    for(var n=0;n<myRichMediaObjects.length;n++){
    myRichMediaObjects[n].activated = false;
Don't know much about the DOM here. Maybe there is no length property for the object that is returned by getAnnotsRichMedia() ??
    Did not try anything.

  • Audio "drifting" to total desync in Premiere Pro and only in that program (not media players)

Whenever I import a longer clip (entire movie or TV episode) and cut out a scene that isn't in the very beginning, the sound is lagged in an unexpected way. It seems to "drift" over time, so that it fits perfectly in the beginning of the movie, but is horribly out of sync toward the end, and smoothly transitions to this throughout the movie.
I'm going to spare you the details of how I've cursed violently at this, even destroyed hardware and pulled my hair out of frustration. I've lost so many hours of productivity just trying to manually re-sync every damn clip.
OS: Windows 8. It was the same thing on Windows 7. All official stable patches. On multiple computers. None of them have any weird/exotic changes whatsoever. In fact, they are very clean and well maintained. This has happened in both CS 6 and CC of Premiere Pro.
Short clips seem to always work. It COULD have something to do with the .avi format specifically, but I don't know.
Very important: The clips that "audio drift" in Premiere Pro work flawlessly in all my media players. I can watch them perfectly in Media Player Classic, VLC, etc. Only when inside Pr, either as preview or as an exported file, do they have desynced audio in this manner. It's 100% verified that this only happens in Pr. In fact, even Windows Live Movie Maker seems to not be affected by this "drift".
    Please help.

That would SEEM to indicate you are not editing video from a camera, but from some kind of screen capture or a "rip" of a source file... and playing is not at ALL like editing
