[Solved] Mythtv audio capture woes

OK I admit it, after a week or so fighting with this, I'm stuck.
This is the last showstopper before using my mythbox as the primary entertainment source to my TV and would very much appreciate any help.
I'm running mythtv 0.20.2.20070828-2 built from ABS on Arch64 using the stock 2.6.23 kernel.  I have a Sound Blaster Live 5.1 (using coax digital out, just to complicate things a bit)  and a K-world v-stream xpert DVB-T card with composite/s-video input.  My cable box is plugged into the video input and the soundcard line-in.  The picture is fine, but the problem is that I cannot get Mythtv to capture the audio from the soundcard at all.
I have set /dev/dsp to be the audio device in mythtv-setup and `cat /dev/dsp > /dev/dsp` does output the audio from the cable box.
Doing an lsof when trying to watch tv:
# lsof /dev/dsp
COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE NODE NAME
mythbacke 22451 root 24r CHR 14,3 10225 /dev/sound/dsp
Doesn't seem to be a permissions issue either as its the same problem running the frontend as root.  Searching through forums seems to point the blame at my mixer levels, though I think I've tried every combination!
In alsamixer, under playback, everything muted, under capture Line and Capture are set to capture, Capture and AC97 are set to 100 = No Sound
If I then increase the AC97 playback volume I get the Live TV audio direct from the cable box which is out of sync and not recorded.
No doubt I've missed something really obvious, so please give me a kick in the right direction.
Thanks

I knew this would be something simple!  When running the frontend from a terminal, these errors pointed me in the right direction:
2007-12-06 13:45:17.078 AudioOutput Error: Rate doesn't match (requested 44100Hz
, got 48000Hz)
2007-12-06 13:45:17.078 AudioOutput Error: Unable to set ALSA parameters
2007-12-06 13:45:17.078 NVP: Disabling Audio, reason is: Unable to set ALSA para
meters
In Utilities/Setup->Setup->General my audio output device was set to ALSA:spdif but I have an /etc/asound.conf file that makes the spdif output the default, so changing the device to ALSA:default solved the problem.  I am a happy bunny
Now how do I mark this topic solved?

  • [SOLVED] Setting default audio capture device

    I have a USB webcam with a microphone that is recognized by ALSA after the on-board line-in. This is fine in Skype because I can set the capture device to the USB microphone, but Flash seems to only use the first capture device (listing only "Linux Microphone") recognized by ALSA. Is there any way to set the default (presumably, the first) audio capture device, or get Flash to see my USB microhone?

    playback.pcm

  • "Audio Capture Device not selected" message?  Help please!

    Howdy folks,
    I just got a new PC, Windows 7 OS, I've installed ManyCam and version 3.2 of FME and am looking to broadcast again.  I don't recall this issue with my old PC (XP OS, Broadcaster StudioPro virtual cam and FME 2.5).  I updated to 3.2 as suggested/recommended in previous posts, but I am getting a message telling me to "please select audio capture devise connected to your system."  What am I doing wrong or might there be something that I need to download that I missed?
    Any help you can give is greatly appreciated.  I truly loved using FME 2.5 but am doing like you suggest here.
    Peace,

    Hello -
    My problem was fixed by setting a recording devise in my "sound" menu.
    What I did was -
    1.  Open the sound menu from the control panel.
    2.  clicked on the recording tab.
    3.  Chose "Stereo Mix - Realtek High Definition Audio" as my default device.
    That solved it.  It was almost too simple.    Hope this helps you!

  • Audio Capture problem in Mac OS X 10.7.5 in Mac mini(in Silverlight)

    I got a mac mini and upgrade Mac OS X 10.6.x --> 10.7.5.
    However do not hearing the audio in Webpage using Silverlight.(10.6. version doing well)
    So, I found the solve this problem, that is a audio capture problem.( My device does not supported Stereo audio data).
    this is the source in audio capture using Silverlight code.
      CaptureSource source = new CaptureSource()
                            AudioCaptureDevice = CaptureDeviceConfiguration.GetDefaultAudioCaptureDevice()
                        try
                            foreach (AudioFormat af in source.AudioCaptureDevice.SupportedFormats)
                                if (af.Channels == 1 && af.BitsPerSample == 16 && af.SamplesPerSecond == 8000)
                                    source.AudioCaptureDevice.DesiredFormat = af;
                                    break;
    af.Channels is always af.Channel == 2(Stereo)
    --- the question is
    How can I caputure audio channel mono?
    If couldn`t, how can I transfered audio capture data stereo to mono?
    Please answer the question as soon as possible ^^

    Mavericks is a 5.3 GB file, it takes awhile to download based on the speed of your internet account.

  • NO audio capture when importing imovie to FCE

    I am following the Apple tutorials to get me started on FCE, but have fallen down at the 1st hurdle.
    When I import a saved XML file from imovie into FCE there is no audio capture.
    I am getting the video/clip audio but I have added music from itunes to my imovie's as well and nothing seems to be coming across I just get a red line across the top of the clips and a bleeping noise.
    Anyone have any ideas?.
    Thanks

    Hi there,
    This "red line" and "bleeping noise" are generally signs that the audio does not match your sequence within FCE. FCE can only edit natively AIFF files at either 48kHz or 32kHz. Music from iTunes is not AIFF, so FCE needs to render out the audio to play it.
    So here's what I'd do:
    1. Click Option-R to render everything out. Chances are this may solve your problem.
    2. If this doesn't help, it may be because it is iTunes music and FCE doesn't let you use copyrighted material. For a way around this issue, look over this link:

  • Lost audio capture 'what you hear' from conexant

    I have an HP Pavilion DV2278ea laptop running Vista 32bit and have all OS updates apart from those announced in the last few weeks. I recently upgraded the software for the Conexant High Definition onboard sound card to the latest August 08 version 4.36.7.60 C. All seemed fine until I came to do an audio capture from an internet stream using Roxio. The only capture device listed was the microphone - there used to be one that said Conexant Audio 'What you Hear' to capture anything heard through the speakers. On checking Sounds in Control Panel the only recording device is the microphone. Sound works okay from both the internal and external speakers. I've tried rolling back the drivers but its still the same. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.
    This question was solved.

    Ok this has driven me mad for the last few days but I found the solution:
    Windows Vista Recording Input Source selections for recording streaming audio, sound from media players or just about anything you can hear coming through your speakers are Hidden from view and Disabled by Default. (I'm sorry - but why!!?!   )
    If your sound card/system supports recording streaming audio Input Source selections such as: Stereo Mix, What U Hear, Wave Out Mix, Wave or a similar selection, here's what you need to do to Enable it for recording:
    Right-Click on your Speaker Icon in your System Tray, (near your clock), select "Recording Devices".
    In the Sound window that opens, near the top, select the "Recording" TAB.
    Move your cursor down to where devices are shown.
    Right-Click in the blank white area and select "Show Disabled Devices".
    If supported, new selections will appear such as: Stereo Mix, What U Hear, etc. Right-Click on "Stereo Mix", "What U Hear" or similar and select "Enable".
    Right-Click on the same item again and select "Set as Default Device". Click OK.
    Now in the recorder's Options in the "Input Source" box, you should have the "Stereo Mix", "What U Hear" or similar source available to select for recording streaming, etc.
    (You can also Enable other hidden selections like Microphone, Line In, etc. if they are not already shown).

  • Audio Capture from DV Tape

    I've reviewed many posts here about audio capture but, I am unable to figure out what the "trick" is to capturing audio alone with the video using the new iMovie. I'm connected via Firewire and I'm able to view the video in capture mode but, I hear no sound. I've checked iMovie Preferences and System Preferences and everything seems to be OK there.
    Is this the way this new version of this program functions? I wish I didn't have to post a msg here because, I'm trying to read the previous post and trying anything that seems to pertain to my issue without the desired results.
    Can someone please shed some light on what's going on with this function of this program?

    I assume you are wanting to hear the audio as you are importing and not that you have no audio once it is imported.
    imovie 08 doesn't play audio while importing. While you are using tape (that imports in real time) imovie now imports from a variety of different types of camera such as AVCHD (which isn't imported at real time. Therefore it is no longer logical to playback audio on import.

  • System Settings-Audio Capture

    In FCE, trying to capture VHS via DV converter box. The sound is not coming over. In system settings/scratch disk (internal hard drive) the audio capture is grayed out. Analog RCA composite video & stereo audio connectors in place. How do I get my sound?

    You can't get audio during capture as firewire has control.
    Use the audio from the play device if you need to hear what's happening. You will notice latency on the FCE capture window, that's normal as well.

  • [SOLVED] HDMI audio not functioning

    I'm having trouble getting audio working. My setup is audio through HDMI, but I actually don't have a way to test audio through any other means, so I'm not sure if HDMI has anything to do with the problem.
    My onboard video chipset is ATI Radeon HD 4250, and so I have added "radeon.audio=1" to my GRUB's boot entry, however nothing seemed to change. Where I seem to be stuck is that aplay will not pick up any sound devices:
    $ aplay -l
    aplay: device_list:252: no soundcards found...
    From http://lkubuntu.wordpress.com/2011/07/2 … eshooting/ I was able to yield the following:

    $ lsmod | grep '^snd' | column -t
    $
    $ ls -l /dev/snd
    ls: cannot access /dev/snd: No such file or directory
    No idea why almost all of the commands I'm seeing are returning the opposite of what they should. Any ideas?

    Thanks for your replies guys! Using both of your posts' information I was able to get HDMI audio working. Here's what I did:
    # modprobe -v snd-hda-intel
    FATAL: Module snd-hda-intel not found.
    At this point I found a post that suggested reinstalling kernel26:

  • Media Encoder not finding "audio capture device"

    Hi,
    Im using Adobe Flash Media Encoder with Dxtory for Twitch streaming, and at first it worked fine. Recorded both my mic and game audio perfectly. Then seemingly suddenly, I fired it up  and it wouldn't stream the game audio. It would my Mic, but thats it. I then unplugged the mic and it started saying I had no Audio Capture Device. I checked in Dxtory and its set up the same as it was when it was working. It picks up both the mic and speakers like it should. I have uninstalled this program multiple times, both 3.1 and 3.2 versions, and each time when I re-download it, it loads up the same profile I had before. So when I am uninstalling it, its not uninstalling everything for some reason. Even though the program is no where to be found after its uninstalled. I have downloaded xsplit, and it picks up the game audio and my mic. So its just this program. Anyone have any ideas? I cant seem to find anything online about this issue.
    Thanks!

    From where?  PP sequence?  PP bin?  PP Source Monitor?  Watch folder?

  • Audio Capture problem

    When Capturing from a DV device on to final cut express HD, only audio is "caught". When I checked the scratch bin the audio selection was disabled (like, the check-bow was dimmed and unable to be changed). I'd like to be able to capture audio without using the voiceover feature and having to completely match audio with video. Ya dig?
    Thank you (for at least reading this)!

    then why is FCE capturing video but not audio. all the settings are correct, the only thing i fan find wrong is the "audio capture" check box in sratch disk settings under system settings is nulled to where you can't do anything to it. So, unless it's normally like that, I'd say it has something to do with the way it captures audio.
    so, please tell me that has nothing to do with it so I can find another reason why it won't capture audio.

  • Audio capture

    I want to whether the cross-platform supports the audio capture?
    If not ,are there any methods to finish audio capture on handheld

    Hey DaddyPaycheck, the tape deck is actually one of those boombox/shelf stereo with cd carousel, and dual tape deck (5.1 speaker system). Audio was working just before I disconnected the speakers. I tried using the speaker output jacks, as well as another audio out, but neither one of them was putting out audio through my computer's speakers. The sound preference recognizes the iMic, but not the Pyro. But the apps I mentioned recognizes both. Selecting the iMic for output in the system preference doesn't work either. I see the bars moving, but I believe that's just random noise the iMic is picking up.
    So, by all intent and purpose, the set up I have should technically work?

  • Audio Capture only happens if its more than 5 seconds

    Hello,
    I'm writing a midlet that does audio capture on the LG CU500 phone. When I capture for 5 seconds or more, audio capture works as intended, however if I only record for under 5 seconds, it doesn't work. There is no timer. Would could be causing the problem?
    Thanks
    aztec30

    Here is a snippet of the code that i'm using. When playing back, if I record say 10 seconds, I only hear about 7 seconds of the recording. About 3 seconds are cut off at the end. If I record for say less than 4 seconds, nothing seems to be recorded, nothing plays back.
    To record I do the following
    try {
    if(player != null)
    player.stop();
    if(ctrl != null)
    ctrl.commit();
    player.deallocate();
    player.close();
    ThreadSleep(500);
    if (player==null) {
    player = Manager.createPlayer("capture://audio?encoding=audio/amr");
    player.realize();
    player.prefetch();
    player.addPlayerListener(playerListener);
    is = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    ctrl = (RecordControl)player.getControl("RecordControl");
    ctrl.setRecordStream(is);
    ctrl.startRecord();
    player.start();
    } catch (Throwable e) {
    Once recording is stopped I do this
    try {
    player.stop();
    ctrl.commit();
    player.deallocate();
    player.close();
    Thread.sleep(500);
    if (is !=null) {
    playback= Manager.createPlayer(new ByteArrayInputStream(is.toByteArray()),
    "audio/amr");
    playback.addPlayerListener(playerListener);
    playback.start();
    } catch (Throwable e) {
