[Solved] 'New' error messages during init after updating initscripts

After updating to the latest initscripts, I got some error messages during init that I hadn't seen before.  They occurred during one of the UDev steps, and were caused by an attempt to load an IDE module despite the controller being disabled.  The controller shows up in Windows devmgr too, so I guess it's a failing of the mobo or BIOS.
In any case, I downgraded and found that the errors were nothing new.  I'm just curious if the appearance of the errors during init was by design or a happy accident.

I had never noticed the file before yesterday, actually. And I'm up-to-date, yet it's still full of 'em.
You need to reboot.
After you do, run
tail /var/log/boot
Mine isn't perfect, but I've already sent an e-mail to the dev (it's a matter of just a sed oneliner)
[karol@black ~]$ tail /var/log/boot

As far as I can tell the later process of building the images (normal and fallback) went on without any issues despite these.
If I try to reinstall the package the error messages change into extract errors f.e.
    (Can't create '/usr/lib/modules/3.10.26-1-lts/kernel/drivers/net/ethernet/atheros/atl1e/atl1e.ko.gz')
    And end up much worse,

Any hint on what is happening here? Fortunately I am using lts as backup kernel though others may not be that lucky if they encounter the same issue(s).

@root: Sorry for kind of hijacking your thread, but it seems like our issues are related. It is the same libgcrypt version, but I'm getting a similar error by just upgrading linux-lts, systemd, and libgcrypt at the same time. Oh, and you should know better than use ancient versions of X11 in Arch ;-)
@scimmia: here is the full pacman.log snippet, including the original "pacman -Syu" and the followup "pacman -S linux-lts". It is the linux-lts mkinitcpio [systemd] hook that complains about unsatisfied dependencies, nothing "calls" systemctl:

  • Error messages... after updating iTunes

When I plug my ipod into iTunes an error message appears that says my ipod maybe corrupt, you may need to restore this Ipod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod. This happened after I just updated to the newest version of iTunes... what do I do to fix it without restoring it?

"If the only copy is on your ipod, you're hosed."
True-dat! I own three USB mp3 players. I have stayed away from "syncing" players for just this reason. My daughter has a Redi player that is supposed to be able to sync with WMP and iTunes, but iTunes doesn't recognize it as a sync-able device (on her Mac or PC) and the Mac won't even recognize that it's plugged in.
Bottom line: You need to 'restore' the iPod in order to use it (sync with it). That means anything you don't have backed up will be lost.

  • HT4623 Error message during ios 6 update

When trying to update my i Phone to ios 6.0.1 I receive an error message indicating that my software is corrupted during the download. I have tried everything suggested in various forums but to no avail. is there a surfire way you can prescribe?
I have the most recent itunes dowloaded and have deleted all previous back up fil suggested in several forums. I have also ensured my anti-virus software is upto date.
any help would be great as this is really frustrating.
    Thanks,

  • Odd error message that started after update to Mountain Lion

Ever since updating to Mountain Lion, I get this error message every now and then:
Nothing in particular seems to cause it, and there isn't a server to which I'm trying to connect. My computer is a mid 2010 MacBook Pro
Can someone tell me what this means in the first place and how I can fix the problem?
    Thanks!

Open the Time Machine pane in System Preferences. If it shows that Time Machine is ON, click the padlock icon in the lower left corner, if necessary, to unlock it. Scroll to the bottom of the list of backup drives and click Add or Remove Backup Disk. Remove all the disks, then add them back. Quit System Preferences. Test.

  • Error message during Acrobat X update installation

I have been trying to install the latest update for Acrobat X and get the following error message: "Unable to modify file C:\Program\Files(x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe".  I have successfully installed updates previously on this computer without any issues arising.

Are you logged in as the administrator? Do you have anti-virus disabled? Are you trying to update from inside Acrobat (Help>Updates) or by a manual update by download? What operating system are you on?

  • AVFoundationCF.dll error message at launch after updating to iTunes 10.1

    Hey,
I did About>Check for updates and installed the 10.1 update and now whenever I try to open iTunes I get the following error:
The procedure entry point AVCFAssetTrackIsExcludedFromAutoselectionInTrackGroup could not be located in the dynamic link library AVFoundationCF.dll
I have tried downloading the full itunes 10.1 64bit installer from the web and installed that but it still shows the same error.
    How can I fix this?

Had the same problem and this worked for me.
This is for Windows XP and may work for others but I don't know for sure.
I checked my Apple Application Support version under the Add Remove programs and it was 1.3.2
    I uninstalled it.
I used WinRar to unpack the iTunesSetup.exe then I installed the AppleApplicationSupport.msi file.
    Everything work after that.
    Hope this helps.
PS This happened on the last upgrade to iTunes as well so...

  • After upgrading to 27, firefox will not start. Saw an error message during the upgrade process.

After upgrading to 27, firefox will not start. Saw an error message during the upgrade process but cannot remember.
Tried to run firefox.exe -P but receive error message:
    XML Parsing error: undefined entity
    Location: chrome://mozapps/content/profile/profileSelection.xul
    Line number 18, Column 1:
    <dialog
    ^
Running on Windows XP SP3. No problem whatsoever before upgrading to 27. Sending this from Chrome as I cannot open Firefox at all.

Thanks jschaer2000: after starting it once in safe mode, I closed Mozilla and tried several restarts in normal mode. So far, all worked:-)
    Thank you very much again.
Still the automatic update process bothers me: it took me several days to discover the reason to the malfunction, since when I removed the problematic version from Add and Remove Programs, I didn't pay attention at first that it was another version, not v26 which I installed from my folder.
In addition, I like to save the installation files before I run new programs and if I didn't have v26 exe file, I couldn't have operated Mozilla at all. Not that it was fun to remove and install again each time v27 didn't react, but it was better than nothing, I still prefer Mozilla over its competition.

  • How to solve the error message "Could not activate cellular data network: PDP authentication failure"when using 3g or gPRS on safari with an iphone 4 and latest software updates

Please can someone help me to solve the error message "Could not activate cellular data network: PDP authentication failure"when using 3G or GPRS on safari with an iphone 4GS and latest software updates. I have tried resetting the network and phone settings. I have restored the factory settings on itunes and still the problem persists.

All iPhones sold in Japan are sold carrier locked and cannot be officially unlocked by the carrier. If you unlocked it, it was by unauthorized means (hacked), and support cannot be given to you in this forum.
Hacked iPhones are subject to countermeasures by Apple, particularly when updating the firmware. It is likely permanently re-locked or permanently disabled.

  • Macbook pro - iPhoto keep prompting to update after Yosemite update. Error message when trying to update -This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was cancelled

macbook pro - iPhoto keep prompting to update after Yosemite update. Error message when trying to update -This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.

I only have 1 apple ID and the same was used to set up this early 2011 macbook pro and iPhoto app. I don't want to loose out on any photos. I tried logging out of app store and back in but no luck. PLEEAASEE HELPP!!!
This problem has been reported by quite a few forum members, who skipped the update to iPhoto 9.5.1 while running Mavericks. In that case try to purchase iPhoto again instead of updating.
After making your backup try the following:
Uninstall iPhoto by deleting it from the applications folder, but do not empty the Trash.
Launch the App Store, click the "Store" menu, and sign in with your AppleID.
Open the main page of the App Store and search for iPhoto.
If iPhoto is listed as "Free", click the "Free" button to buy it with your current AppleID.
If it is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support, as Niel pointed out: http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/

  • Error message during software updates

I am constantly receiveing the following error message during software updates. This time it happened with an HP printer update, but it has happened with iTunes and Safari as well. Does anyone know what I need to do?
The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/GeneIOUSBCFSubclass.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update
    Thanks!

Try using Help > Updates from one of your CS6 applications.
When you return home, you might try uninstalling CS6 and reinstalling it again. It sounds like some stuff may have become corrupted.

  • Error message during OS update

I keep getting an error message during the update for my ipad2.  it tells me an error occurred and if i continue everything will be lost on the ipad.  any ideas as to what i should do?

I finally fixed it.  I still had some purchased items that weren't transferred.  Once I transferred them all, I connected the usb directly to my computer and turned off my firewall.  All seemed to work.

  • Can't update Apps, now getting new error message

It's been weeks since I've been able to update my Apps on either my iPod touch, or from iTunes. In iTunes previously, it would say that there were updates available, but then when I clicked on Update it would tell me that there were no updates available, now I'm getting a new error message that says "You can not update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software." WHAT???? These are mostly free apps, and the others I paid for. I'm so tired of this. And on my iPod touch I get "Can not connect to the iTunes store," even though I can make purchases, download podcasts, etc. Any ideas. Thanks so much.

it's strange because not all update have this issue. I can update some free and paid apps ( over 10 update was succeful) and few (4-5)others have this problem and cannot be updated. Itunes didnt been updated since beginning of this issue.
For the free one who cannot be updated, i just deleted already owned in itunes and re-downloaded updated version again without any problem. But for my paid apps, i will need to wait That apple fix it.
I googled and i see this problem already happen in 2007 or 2008 but i just found problem report, no solution. I will try to spend couple minute to find out on google and try to call apple or contact apple expert on the web there tomorrow: http://www.apple.com/support/expert/ and come back to tell what they said. If someone found please post !!
