SOLVED: Oracle Forms Object Groups

Hi,
I have an object group on one main form. this object group has dozens of object group children. I've copied and subclassed the object group to my dependent forms.
Now i add a object (a parameter for instance) to the main form object group... but the dependent forms object group does not add the new object and i have to subclass it manually... what's wrong?
solved sorry!
Regards
Ricardo

  • A suggestion to Oracle Forms development group

    Hello Oracle..
U guys want to start a new thread on this issue..
I think the problem is not only of a separate 6i runtime..(of course this is a big issue to all of us who ask our customers to buy softwares for those applications which up to now are running perfectly fine..)
The forms which are running fine in client/server when deployed on web(9ias) sometimes behaves so abruptly that justifying this to a non-dev 6i developer is a mountainous task...
We even heard from our management that u guys are not serious enough due to these issues getting repeated..
Could u please justify whether buying 9ias and applying patches after patches is a sign of a very good product..
Every time we face a problem u guys are ready with a patch(and that's too after much of our effort was wasted in finding out where the problem is)..
I am a die hard fan of oracle but now i am seriously considering what u guys are planning( Just keep on marketing such products or keep well-wishers like us with u forever)...
Hope the language in this didn't hurt anyone.
This is not only my feeling but almost all of colleagues are saying this.
    Waiting for a positive response
    Best Regards

Thanks a Lot Mr. Grant for addressing the queries by taking time from your busy schedule...
1)"Separate runtime" .... I have seen that thread from Mr. Louis but the question remains that is seperate runtime of forms6i available for UNIX platform. This question is still unanswered.
2)"The forms which are running fine in client/server when deployed on web(9ias) sometimes behaves so abruptly" .... There are many problems which are already posted there but the solution given by oracle for some of those problems doesnot work..For e.g. For running reports on unix thru form an error REP-3000 is coming after searching metalink we found that we have to open an X-window session for removing that error ...Worked fine for sometime and then after installing Patch 9 for running Upload utility it stops running reports.....
Sometimes the layout which is perfectly fine in web is completely different in web..
Anyway these are the few problems which we faces ...
3)"We even heard from our management that u guys are not serious enough due to these issues getting repeated" - ...When such type of problems came we searches metalink, forums etc and then tell or managers that this solution will work(if we found some there) and after going for that we found that either it doesn't work or if it work's it creates problems in some other places...Now i think u can imagine what will be our situation in such senario ...
4)"buying 9ias and applying patches after patches is a sign of a very good product" ...Please don't compare urself with Microsoft....They might be leading
Software Giants but Oracle is Oracle and we all well wishers doesn't want it to be giving products like microsoft..What i mean by saying this is that in every product there are bug fixes but so many bugs and Lots of patches doesn't it shows that the product was not made considering all the possibilities and it was made in a hurry without considering the aftereffects ....
5)" Every time we face a problem u guys are ready with a patch" ....Response time is fast no doubt but what about the time and faith which is lost of all the oracle fans..
7)... One last thing i think this is not only the frustation ..which prompts us to write these things.....the main thing is the faith we have in oracle...
After using 6i and 9ias many guys are saying that they will never use or recommend this technology in the future and my personal feeling is that i didn't want oracle to lose the battle so early due to such issues..
Once again thanks alot and please consider this for improving 9isa..
we all are here to support you...
Very keen to see ur response
    Best Wishes

1.) Please don't double post:Urgent message : oracle9i form builder read  txt file error
2.) As for your original post: don't post urgent questions over here. If they are really urgent call oracle support. See How To Ask Questions The Smart Way
    and after all:
wcu-015: your form must contain the following bean for this function to be
    available : oracle.forms.webutil.file.filefunctions;
are you certain, 100% positive, and absolutely sure you have a bean item with above implementation class in your form? I'd double check that...
JInit and IE8? I am not 100% sure, but I am almost certain that this combination didn't work at all. And please don't tell us you used that stupid hack where you replace the jvm.dll of JInit with one of a current JPI installation.
The Oracle Versions you have in place are rather ancient as well, you really should think about upgrading your database and your forms installation. As you already are on webforms moving to the current version of forms shouldn't require much changes in your forms.
    cheers

  • Index Usage from SQL query in Oracle Forms

Would using LIKE/OR in where clause (of an indexed column) will force the the query to NOT use INDEX. We have these where clause in Oracle Forms Records Group.
    Below are two examples...
    1. If we have a where clause with LIKE would that NOT use the index?
    Example: ColumnName like :block.Column||%
    2. How about having an OR clause?
Example: and (ColumnName = :block.column or :block.column is null)
    Thanks

    Hi
Answer 1: Where with like clause WOULD use the index.
In this example index on ColumnName
    Answer 2: Write better where:
Example: and (:block.column is null or ColumnName = :block.column)
When :block column is null then statement after 'or' is not used. Index will not be used with RBO, i think.
The best way to be sure is to look at explain plan on the original query.

    Kuba

Looking at both of your posts on this topic, this one and Found Error FRM-13008 Cannot find JaveBean with name oracle.forms.webutil.o I really believe that your WebUtil configuration is not complete. I ran into this same issue when I was configuring WebUtil for the first time. I attempted to take a few short-cuts because I didn't think they mattered or I thought they were already complete. After spending about 2 hours and still not getting anywhere I decided to start over and intentionally complete each step of in the Configuration section of the manual - even if I had already completed the task. Fifteen minutes later, I had WebUtil configured and working. I kicked myself for not doing that the first time! :8} You might want to consider doing the same.
    Hope this helps,

  • Breaking Subclass/Removing Object Group/Without loss of code for child form

    Hi all..
This is regarding Forms 10g (breaking inheritance)
I have a base form as well as client form.
The child form is having some properties as common to the base form. so child form is having sub class(inheritance) from the base class with the help of Object Group. This is the exiting setup
Now, client wants the same information as child form with out link with base form.
i.e., they want to remove the Object Group with out distrubing the child form.
Finally, they want the child form as independant from base form. i.e., child form should not have inheritance from the base form and at the same time they don't want to loss of any code to the child form.
There are 1000's of forms like that are need to re-work.
Is there any tool/script available to do this process of work automatically.
Please provide the necessary deatils and help me regarding this.
    Regards
    Madhava

You CAN add new items to the subclassed block or change triggers code or even add new triggers. Form Builder won't let you create items in-between existing subclassed items or triggers. So if you need to create a new item, create at the end of subclassed item or trigger...
You can not DELETE items of subclassed block or the block itself if it is subclassed. But you can remove the subclassed object from your child module --- by removing class info from the object group in child module --- but it will also remove all the subclassed child objects.
If you delete or change anything in master object, it will directly affect the subclassed object and you can see the change immediatly in the child modules.
When you drag the master object to child, it asks you if you need to subclass or copy, selecting copy will create a separate copy which you can play with in the child module.
And below is brief help on the matter:
If you don't want all the objects in the subclassed object group, then you might consider either subclassing the desired objects individually, or creating an object group which contains only the desired objects.

  • Attaching the WebUtil object group to a form

Hi. I'm hoping for some help on how to attach the WebUtil object group to a form. I go to the Object Groups node in the object navigator and click the '+' button, but I'm not prompted to attach .olb files. How do I do this? Without it attached I'm receiving the message "The WebUtil object group is not available in this form. WebUtil cannot work." when I run my application. Thanks in advance.

Okay I opened the .obl and it appears under the Object Libraries Node. Then I double-click on the Object Groups node in my form and it simply creates a new object named OBJECT_GROUP100. I can't seem to drag and drop from the Libraries Node to the Object Groups node in my form. It just shows a circle with a line through it indicating that I can't drag it. Any suggestions? (Sorry, I've not done this before).

What i want to find out is there a similar type of guide to implementing object tables with relational tables in a simple form, as i have given it a try and haven't really got anywhere, so a step wise guide would be great.
