[solved] pacman won't get a fresh copy of updateslist

In the main site it shows all the new updates but when I sync to update the new update lists it just says my list is up to date.
Is there a way to erase the lists to get fresh ones?

Wow! That's a great link thanks!
@tipclapper, of course I have a internet connection
Let me switch my mirrorlist with the one andre.ramaciotti gave

Ever since I upgraded gnupg/gpgme today, pacman won't look up (or rather fail looking up) any missing GPG keys. Relevant part of pacman's output:

Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.
Failing to import the key directly through pacman, I tried
    pacman-key --recv-key C06086337C50773E
which successfully added the key to my keyring.
I could then install the package. I also tried switching to different keyserves, but without success.
Everything pacman{, -key} related worked fine until the update, but I can't say for certain that it was the gnupg/gpgme update that broke something.
Does anyone else have this issue or is there something wrong with my setup? I already thought of opening a bug report, but I want to make sure it's not my fault.
    btw: Hi, everyone :)

This wasn't explicitly stated above, but to do the manual import with pacman-key, I had to prefix the fingerprint with 0x, as so:
    $ sudo pacman-key -r 0x5C2E46A0F53A76ED
However, the default keyserver is giving me problems currently:
    $ sudo pacman-key -r 0x5C2E46A0F53A76ED
    Password:
gpg: requesting key F53A76ED from hkp server keys.gnupg.net
gpgkeys: HTTP fetch error 7: couldn't connect: End of file
gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found.
    gpg: Total number processed: 0
==> ERROR: Remote key not fetched correctly from keyserver.
So in the end, I used a different keyserver:
    sudo pacman-key -r 0x5C2E46A0F53A76ED --keyserver hkp://subkeys.pgp.net
    Hope that helps anyone else.

  • Expansion Slot Utility not working -- How to fix / Get a fresh copy?

    I want to configure my PCIe slots to 8x 8x 1x 8x...
The reason for this is because I'm fitting an ATi X1900 with a passive cooler (Noise!), and it won't fit in the double-height slot.
All the info suggests running 8x v. 16x will make no difference: http://www.barefeats.com/quad14.html
However, my Expansion Slot Utility won't run. It worked fine the first time, when I looked at it, but now -- no go.
The 'Don't Show This Utility Again' button was definitely NOT checked.
I don't want to have to re-install the whole OS just to get a working ESU...can I download a fresh one from anywhere?

    I DID read your post:
Hatter...you can't run it from the Utilities folder...it won't work. I tried. Only running it from the CoreServices folder worked.
    So is that now false?
I launched the copy that I have that I put in /Utilities and confirmed that it will launch and works fine.
Next, I checked and saw that there was an option when you launch it to "not show again" in the window.
There must be something wrong on your end. So don't tell me I didn't read your post (or Ned's) and I did see that you had it open in back. Couldn't tab to it.
But.... it sounded like... you tried to confirm and re-launch it again. At least that is what I would do, to test whether it can be launced, rather than to say "can't be launched except from CoreServices" which I know to be FALSE.
No where did you say, "okay, it launches now from Utilities."
So be clear - it ain't easy.

    Hi flangemonkey,
that mirror was not synced yet when you did the upgrade (the last sync ended today at 10:54 UTC, about 17 mitues after you posted on this borad). It should be ok now, just try to redo the update. Next time, you may want to check first the status of the mirrors https://www.archlinux.org/mirrors/status

  • [Solved] pacman won't update kernel

Hi, I create a base image that I clone to build from, it has nothing added but 'base-devel', earlier I installed an XFCE install, I went to create another from the same base image, when I install nvidia it told me in both cases that it needed a newer kernel 3.1.4, so I ran
    pacman -Syu
. This morning this solves the problem, right now it states that it has nothing to update (it's made from the same image) and nvidia won't install stating it needs that upgrade. I shuffled mirrors around to see if it helped but it didn't. Anyone have an idea of why this is occurring?
thanks in advance for your help.

  • [Solved] X11 won't start after fresh install

    Hihi!
I've been using Debian for quite some time now but I want to switch to Arch. My notebook is fairly modern and this doesn't mix well with Debian and as such my dGPU is basically unusable. My preferred method of installing Debian is to start headless so I felt quite at home with Arch and got through the install just fine, but I'm having problems launching Openbox among other hardware related issues. I spent yesterday googling and attempting fixes but came up with nothing, so I had to reinstall Debian as I was counting on having a usable computer at the end of the day. I did write down the messages I was getting though, hopefully they are enough to diagnose the issue. My hardware:
    AMD A10-5750M (8650G graphics)
    AMD Radeon 8970M 2GB
The kernel was the one in the very latest install snapshot (3.12-9 or something)
The first thing I noticed after booting into the fresh install was a warning along these lines
[drm:r600_dma_ring_test] radeon: ring 3 test failed
I ignored it, and preceeded to install the following packages
    xorg-server
    xorg-utils
    xorg-xinit
    mesa
    xf86-video-ati
    openbox
    openbox-themes
other things related to the UI I wanted
The ring 3 test warning still occured on reboot after installing X and the radeon drivers. Again I ignored it. My .xinitrc was simply exec openbox-session
I ran startx and it failed, and got a bunch of errors that began right after a reference to "radeon" and the kernel. My xorg log did not get far at all. In fact the last lines were
(II) config/udev: Adding drm device (/dev/dri/card0)
(II) config/udev: Adding drm device (/dev/dri/card1)
And that was literally the end of the log. This is clearly a GPU/driver issue, probably with the 8970M as card1 seems to be the last line? Any help is appreciated
edit: This is the same process I use to install Debian, and using this exact same kernel (plus the Debian patches) I can start X just fine. my dGPU is unusable with the FOSS drivers through as there is no glamor support in Debian. I get segfaults whenever I launch something with DRI_PRIME=1 after setting the 8970M as the offload provider
Last edited by remyze (2014-02-09 04:02:04)

Ok I installed fresh and had the same issues as last time. With KMS early start I still have the same problems launching X and I still have the ring 3 test error (it just appears earlier).
There is nothing pure text in /var/log, I don't know if theres a way to use systemd with wgetpaste, so I took a picture that is hopefully not to difficult to read. I tried to sharpen it up a bit in GIMP.
    *see pastebin below*
I also noticed that I get that ring 3 error even when I boot up the Arch installer  via USB. I wonder if I should try an older image with an older kernel?

  • [SOLVED] Pacman won't update and hangs

    Hey,
After logging in a while ago I found out that pacman hangs in a very weird way.
Don't mind the czech locale, the output should be pretty clear anyway.
    [root@meph-ntb meph]# pacman -Syy
    :: Synchronizuje se databáze balíčků...
    core 55,0K 4,2M/s 00:00:00 [############################################################] 100%

    community 449,5K 6,7M/s 00:00:00 [############################################################] 100%
    multilib 26,7K 2,8M/s 00:00:00 [############################################################] 100%
    [root@meph-ntb meph]#
    Seems alright. But then...
    [root@meph-ntb meph]# pacman -Syy
    :: Synchronizuje se databáze balíčků...
And hangs here. Every other attempt at -Syy hangs like this, until next reboot. And after the reboot it again seems alright at first, but 2nd and every other attempt hangs.
Pacman -Syu behaves in a similar way. First time after reboot it does sync the database and then hangs when it says retrieving packages. When I try again, it hangs on database sync.
Tried changing mirror (long shot, I know), didn't help. Even tried without X running, didn't work. Also pacman.log is clear.
    Any ideas?

I don't know why, but the problem seems to be gone after a few hours. I didn't change mirrorlist, and it hasn't changed since last time the update worked fine either. I'm still curious what caused the problem, but can't think of a way to find out.

I had an issue like this during an update several months ago.  Reflector was the problem package and the existing files were owned by reflector.  I think it's worth mentioning since reflector is also a python package.  Anyway, iirc I simply removed and reinstalled reflector.
Unfortunately, it won't be so easy for you since pyastpi is part of a dep-chain leading to gnome-shell... looks like you're going to have to figure out how to do it the right way

  • Installing a fresh copy of OS X Mavericks from USB on iMac 12,1 with broken SuperDrive.

    Hi,
I want to get a fresh copy of OS X Mavericks on my iMac 12,1 (mid-2011 - i5 2,5GHz, 8GB RAM, AMD Radeon 6750M with 512MB) with broken SuperDrive. I made a pendrive with DiskMaker X, but I can't boot it anymore on iMac. My flash drive isn' corrupt - it performs well on MacBook Pro. What can I do to install it on iMac?
    Greetings,
    Jakub Borys
Post scriptum - Sorry for my poor English.

Oh, man, I wish I had something useful to offer. It sounds bad. Really bad.
Do you have a friend -- or possibly a Mac ot work -- from which you could make a new USB Mavericks installer? I only say that because I've read of a few problems here and there with boot drives made with DiskMaker X. What I'd recommend, if it's at all possible, is to download the latest Mavericks DMG file, reformat the USB drive with a fresh GUID partition and then burn the disk image onto it with the Mavericks built in createinstallmedia method. Here's a link to an article which describes how to do it: http://www.macworld.com/article/2056561/how-to-make-a-bootable-mavericks-install -drive.html. This is, in fact, the very article which got me onto the right path.
You'd think that a bootable Mavericks installer would be a bootable Mavericks installer no matter how it was made. Sadly, that doesn't seem to be the case.

  • [solved] pacman -Syy and -Syu work, but packages won't install

Hello, everyone. I'm really new to Arch, but I did search all over Google and the forums and couldn't find an answer to this, so I thought I'd ask the forums.
I just installed Arch, and I'm trying to install sudo.
When I run pacman -S sudo, I get:
sudo package not found, searching for group...
error: 'sudo': not found in syncdb
However, when I run pacman -Syy, I get:
    ::Synchronizing package databases...
error: failed retrieving file 'core.db.tar.gz' from mirrors.kernel.org: File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access)
...(other similar errors from other mirrors)
    core     4.1K     43.7K/s     00:00:00 [##########] 100%
    ...(same for extra and community)
(Sorry I didn't copy the entire output out, I'm not connected to the internet on the Arch computer, so I'm typing this by hand on another one. I tried a bunch of mirrors earlier, and only one mirror actually works: the Arch one, which as a download cap.)
So my package databases are getting updated, but somehow pacman isn't recognizing them or something.
I updated pacman to see if that would work.
    pacman -V
    Pacman v3.3.3 - libalpm v4.0.3
    It didn't.
    I'm running 2.6.33-ARCH according to lib/modules.
I haven't changed my etc/pacman.conf. [core] and its Include, [extra] and its Include, and [community] and its Include are all uncommented. No packages are ignored.
My etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist was updated from the Arch Mirror Generator. I uncommented everything in United States.
I have internet set up, and I've tried taking down wlan0 and putting it back up. iwconfig shows that wlan0 works and is connected, and I'm pinging google.com successfully, so I know internet works.
Thanks in advance for any help, and please let me know if I'm missing any information. I tried to be thorough.

Music is not included in the backup (and nor are films or tv shows), only the contents of third-party apps are included. Did you not do File > Transfer Purchases when connected to your computer's iTunes to copy your iTunes purchases over, and/or have you not got a backup copy of your music somewhere e.g. on an external drive ?

Apparently you have two catalogs now, one from each installation. If you did importing, tagging and editing during the first installation, that will all be in the first catalog. Find the first catalog - it is a file with the suffix .lrcat and the default place for LR to put it is usually your Pictures folder - and (with LR closed) double-click on it. LR will launch with catalog #1 active.

  • [SOLVED]Built pacman in Debian, getting 'error invoking external downl

Hi, I've built pacman in Debian and now whenever I try to run any pacman command involving repositories, I get 'error invoking external downloader'. I've configured repositories, but I feel like the problem is with libfetch. I could only build libdownload which is a fork of libfetch.
Here is the output of 'pacman -Syv --verbose':

libdownload is our ancient fork of libfetch -- do not use it. It's not even the same library, and it required buildsys changes to use. Honestly, I don't recommend libfetch either. Looks to me like you didn't build pacman with internal downloader support at all.
You won't find a tarball of libfetch anywhere because its part of NetBSD core. Arch keeps a snapshot, which you can download.
Regardless, I suggest looking at our PKGBUILDs for sane build time options: 4.0.1, 3.5.4
