[SOLVED] Postgresql and systemd - Unable to start or enable service

I'm trying to run postgresql in a pure systemd machine.
i've done a fresh install of postgresql using pacman as instructed in the wiki. However when i try to start the service i get the following:
user@frodo:~$ sudo systemctl start postgresql.service
Failed to issue method call: Unit postgresql.service failed to load: No such file or directory. See system logs and 'systemctl status postgresql.service' for details.
user@frodo:~$ sudo systemctl status postgresql.service
postgresql.service
Loaded: error (Reason: No such file or directory)
Active: inactive (dead)
So it seems the package has no systemd service files included. Did anyone got around to make one of these?

well, i've managed to fix the problem.
it seems that the wiki is missing a couple of steps. so i manually done the following:
i) create the data directory (acordingly  with the PGROOT variable set before in the config file)
user@frodo:~$ sudo mkdir /var/lib/postgres/data
ii) set /var/lib/postgres/data ownership to user 'postgres'
iii) As user 'postgres' start the database.
user@frodo:~$ sudo -i -u postgres
[postgres@frodo ~]$ initdb -D '/var/lib/postgres/data'
iv) start the service as root
user@frodo:~$ sudo systemctl start postgresql.service
that should be it.
Issuing a systemctl status should return
user@frodo:~$ sudo sudo systemctl status postgresql.service

    Hello @CapnRon1,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand you are having issues transferring files between your Samsung Galaxy S5 and your HP touchsmart 520 Desktop PC. I am providing you with some steps you can try below:
Step 1. Go to device manager
Step 2. Right click on "Bluetooth Peripheral Device" that you want
Step 3. Select "Update Driver Software..."
Step 4. Choose "Browse my computer for driver software"
Step 5. Choose "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
Step 6. Select "Ports (COM & LPT)"
Step 7. Select "Microsoft" at "Manufacturer" list
Step 8. Finally select "Standard Serial over Bluetooth link"
If you are still unable to pair with a Bluetooth device try the following:
Step 1. Search for "Change device" in the Windows 8 Start menu.
Step 2. Click on where it says Change device installation settings.
Step 3. Select the No, let me choose what to do option.
Step 4. Check the automatically get the device app option
Step 5. Click Save changes to save the settings you just chose
As well you can try this:
Step 1: Go to RUN (Windows Logo + R) and type “services.msc” and Enter
Step 2: Now find “Bluetooth Support Service” and double click on it
Step 3: Now click on Log On Tab and Type in "Local Service" without quotes
Step 4. Click on “This Account”
Step 5: Now remove any passwords leave the password field blank
Step 6: Underneath the upper left title should be a hyperlink "Start" Click it
    You can also check:
Power Management tab and unchecked the box that said "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."  Problem solved.  Thank you for your willingness and persistance in helping me resolve the issue.
I would be happy to assist you further is you require it, but first I would encourage you to post your product number for your computer. I am linking an HP Support document below that will show you how to find your product number. As well, if you could indicate which operating system you are using. And whether your operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit as with this and the product number I can provide you with accurate information.
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Which Windows operating system am I running?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
Please re-post with the requested information and I would be happy to provide you with assistance. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Error: Unable to start Citadel 5 services

I am running LabVIEW v7.1 Developer Suite with DSC v7.1
    Running Windows 2000
I am using LabVIEW to access data from an OPC server located in the PC running LabVIEW. I set up a vi to read the wanted data with no problems. Today, when I tried to open the saved vi I recieved this error message: "Unable to start Citadel 5 services". I have never recieved this error message before. As a result, I can not access the Tag Configuration Editor. Does anyone have any suggestions/comments that may help me? Thank you.
    Tom

    tidstein,
I'm sure you have tried rebooting your PC. If this did not solve the error try repairing the installation of the DSC Module from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
Citadel 5 is the database portion of the DSC module. It is dependent on several other components that should be installed/updated by the DSC Module installer. Another component that Citadel depends on is Microsoft's MSDE (http://www.microsoft.com/sql/msde/default.asp). This shows up as sqlservr.exe in the task manager (This component is automatically installed when you install the DSC Module). Citadel must be able to start this service in order to run.
Let me know if you were able to resolve this issue.

  • Unable to start xsp web service - Windows Client

    Hi all,
I've got a problem with the Windows client (Windows 7 64-bit). When I start the client I get an error that says:
Unable to start xsp web service, iFolder will not be able to work, restart the application.
The client actually starts up. However, I'm unable to do anything with it. Are there any logs I can provide that may give you a bit more insight into what's going on?
I can connect from my mac client and a colleague can connect (from outside the firewall) from his Windows client.
    Any thoughts?
    Many thanks,
    Andrew

I am still getting Unable to start xsp web service.

Sorry for the delay, was traveling and just returned yesterday.
lothar_m was followed as described in the post, since removed the packages twice and did the install again but the same error.
    [root@archK conf.d]# systemctl start postgresql

  • [SOLVED] nvidia and xorg-server, slow start compared to nv

I've seen many similar topics but none that have been solved, therefore the new topic.
Starting xorg with nv driver takes just a few seconds to desktop, while using nvidia takes almost 10 seconds more to get to desktop. Although after reaching desktop everything works fine. I've used a minimal xorg.conf for each driver (replacing nvidia with nv):
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Device0"
    Driver "nvidia"
    EndSection
    The /var/log/Xorg.0.log when using nvidia:

From what I can tell it is something with the nvidia driver that doesn't play well with xorg.  Perhaps some kind of autodetection that takes long time to finish. Anyone got any ideas how to solve this?

Didn't see they where timestamps . Yes it seems that glx is one cause of the delay. I've tried some different xorg.conf, and it's always ligglx.so or  NV-GLX that slows it down. Any suggestions on how I can speed this up?
ps. The computer is ok. Although the garddrive is a SATA 3.0Gb/s, 5400 RPM.  But I don't think this is the problem?

  • [SOLVED] Terminator stopped working Unable to start shell:/bin/bash

    Hello,
I just wanted to share as I didn't found anything about it,
Since yesterday I can't launch my favorite terminal emulator which is terminator, it gives me :
    Unable to start shell:/bin/bash
displayed in terminator window where I'm supposed to type commands.
What is strange is that I can launch /bin/bash in tty's plus I installed xterm temporarily which works fine with bash.
One more thing is that if I close terminator window it closes my graphical session !
Any idea to troubleshoot this ?

    I think so..
Your Oracle Database doesn't connect to content server..
Maybe, you can edit the configuration of your UCM..
Please open the file at C:\oracle\ucm\server\config\config.cfg..
And then add the code :
    NumConnection = 5;

Has anyone come across the similar problem before?

Looks to be a cert or keystore issue. How do you have that setup?

    Hi,
It sounds like your tables are either not there or are not available under your stellent_admin's account.
Now to be honest, I've not used the XE version of Oracle's db, but assuming it operates in a similar fashion to the regular version, it sounds like your content server tables are either not there or are created under a different account.
If they are under a different account, it's probably best just to delete them and re-create them again under the correct account as they are undoubtedly in the wrong tablespace too.
If they just aren't there, which I guess is possible if you decline the table set up option during installation, you just need to run the script.
running the script is actually pretty easy.
open up a command window and navigate to your 'UCM\ContentServer\database\oracle'
    run sqlplus stellent_admin/[password]
    once your logged in...type @all.sql;
