[SOLVED] Screen rotated 90° at boot up

Hey,
I've got a widescreen display had to rotate it in order to work on some large excel sheets, so I turned my monitor and used the following command to rotate the screen. Everything went fine, I finished my work and reverted the setup using
xrandr --output DVI-1 --rotate (left | normal)
However, after a reboot my screen is 90° left rotated and I have to toggle the respective command everytime to fix this, which I changed to
xrandr -o (left | normal)
, btw.
No config were changed, no warning/error message popped out - I'm very curious why my screen got stuck at this rotation. My AMD R9-280X uses the open source driver, those are my xorg configs, if relevant:

  • [SOLVED] Screen turns off on boot at "Loading ACPI Modules"

So, I have been using arch for some time and am really liking it so far.  It has replaced Windows on my desktop and am planning to install it on my laptop when I get a chance.  I showed my parents some audio apps that run under Linux, and they suddenly wanted arch too!   I decided to install arch on their desktop, so after migrating Windows to a larger hard drive, I installed arch onto the remaining space...  Everything seemed fine until I tried to boot into the new system.  Once it reaches "Loading ACPI Modules" the screen turns off and refuses to turn back on.  I have tried everything I could think of (booting into the LiveCD again and running pacman -Syu on the new install, swapping the monitor to a different video port, reinstalling arch) and some solutions I found on the forums (adding acpi=off, noapic, nolapic_sound to the boot line.)  The latter made the boot skip ACPI, but the the screen blanks on "Waiting for udev events to be processed"!  I'm thinking it might be something to do with the video card (an old Radeon X1300 AGP) but I don't know what to do to fix it...  The system doesn't lock up, as even after it blanks I can log in and push Ctrl-G to make a terminal beep!  I've tried everything I can think of...  If this doesn't work I'll probably try another distro on that machine.  The system is:
    Intel D845WN Motherboard
    1GB PC133 RAM
    2.2Ghz Celeron Processor
    Radeon X1300 AGP card
    Sound Blaster Audigy PCI card
    USB 2.0 PCI Card
    PCI NIC
Thanks in advance for any advice!
EDIT:  Actually, I think it does lock up, as I don't have to hold down the power button to turn it off after the screen blanks.
EDIT AGAIN: Thanks, adding "radeon.setmode=0" worked like a charm!  I knew that card was a bit wacky, but I didn't think it would stop the system from booting...

ok, seems it's the  automatic kernel mode setting (KMS) that causes this see:
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI … _.28KMS.29
to get the system to boot, go into the grub menu, edit the boot option (i.e. press 'e') then edit the line that looks like
    kernel /vmlinuz26 root=...
    and add
    radeon.modeset=0
at the end of it. Then your system should start fine. Now add this to the corresponding line in /boot/grub/menu.lst

  • IOS 8.1.2 Ipad mini 2 Laging and slower screen rotation

I have just updated my brand new iPad mini 2 with IOS 8.1.2 and the screen rotation became slower ,at the lock screen it became more  obvious it takes 1-5 seconds to rotate and the "slide to unlock" slider animation is freezing and lagging ,at the application screen takes 1-3 seconds ,the problem goes when I restart the device ,How Can I solve this problem .

    Hi there farahatology,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you’re running into general performance issues with your iPad mini. One thing you may want to try, to rule out software issues, is restoring your iPad to factory settings as shown in the article linked below.

  • Screen rotation is locked in email only, how do I unlock?

Screen rotation is locked in email only, how do i unlock?  The screen rotation is not locked in settings.

To solve it, hold Sleep and Home buttons until the iPad restarts. Another way is to close the Mail application and open it again. To do this, press the Home button twice, hold the Mail icon at the bottom until you see a - button in it, and press the - button to close it. Finally, open the Mail app again

  • Screen Rotation in the 5800

Is it possible to set the screen rotation to be animated ? Like for it to have a funky effect when the screen rotates ?
If so, how do I enable this ? Do, I need to install any other app to achieve this ?

The "funkiest" you'll get out of the 5800 is the screen fading out before rotating. You get this by switching theme effects on:

  • [SOLVED] Screen brightness issues with Acer 5372Z

The screen of my laptop goes black whenever I boot into ArchLinux, after "reading Udev events" on startup. Most of the time I have to use a flashlight to see the console on my screen and type
    sudo setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=20
to set screen brightness manually. The `Fn` + `Brightness up` combination doesn't work on my machine, but that's not an issue with Arch, but fault to sugar in coffee.
There are a lot of similar threads in this forum, but none of the solutions described there really worked 100% or not at all, that's why I'm opening a new thread as this seems to be specific to my hardware.
    Details:
    Graphics controller:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)
    Screen resolution:
    1366*766
    /boot/grub/menu.lst:
    # (0) Arch Linux
    title Arch Linux
    root (hd0,0)
    kernel /vmlinuz-linux root=/dev/sda10 resume=/dev/sda5 ro vga=775
    initrd /initramfs-linux.img
    /etc/rc.conf#DAEMONS:
DAEMONS=(hwclock syslog-ng network netfs crond laptop-mode dbus gdm)
I will describe here what I have did so far on hacking:
Installed the video driver for my Intel card as described here in the wiki
Set kernel mode to `nomodeset`, without specifying vga, of course, which surprisingly solved the issue, but prevented me from using Gnome.
The supposed solution in the Arch wiki doesn't work for me. It makes it worse, in the sense of dumping screen brightness even before "reading udev events" on boot.
My current workaround (to avoid using a flashlight) is to put this line into my `/etc/rc.local`:
    setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=20
I wonder if you can help me to solve this issue, or point me to any of the great documentation provided by the Arch community I might have missed...

rg_arc wrote:I have this problem as well for my Acer Aspire 4810TZ. The only thing I can think of is to make some sort of temporary fix. But I agree with you, There should be a permanent fix. Every time I've installed Arch on this computer the same problem arises and the only way I can change the brightness is the setpci terminal method.
This is bad news for new Arch (and Linux) users. This will be probably the point where they will turn over to another distribution.
It seems to be something which has been included in newer kernels, because I can remember that in the 2.6 series this issue did not exist.

  • Screen rotation software

Hello, I'm a cstomer n fan of BB and I love the art they make. I use the torch 9850 and have a problem with it everytime I get in bed.when I use it the screen rotates automatically even though I don't want it to. I have searched for apps that help with this problem "stop tilt" but they don't offer u a permanent fix until you want to set it to automatically rotate. Can the software updates include a solution to this problem? Its annoying everytime I want to chat in bed as it flips. Pls embed an option in the software that does that.

Well, I can argue the other side, since you force it... when you rotate the device, it is SUPPOSED to rotate the screen.
I don't care about your iPhone comments. This is not an iPhone. For years the iPhone had no copy/paste function, do you think BlackBerry should have removed its copy/paste function to "get in line" with that piece of **bleep**?

  • Screen rotation stopped working glitch

I had my screen rotated so the Windows button was at the top (so I could prop it up on the arm of my couch and let the heat out on top) and fell asleep.  When I woke up and woke the Lenovo out of sleep, the screen rotation wouldn't work. A restart fixed it, but it's definitely a glitch.

Update the intel graphic card driver please.

  • Iconia Tab 8 W W1-810 suddenly stopped the auto screen rotation

Hi. I´m havving trouble with my Iconia Tab 8 W W1-810. It suddenly stopped the auto screen rotation and now I can´t find the "enable screen rotation" checkbox. I only get the chance to put it in landscape or portrait but not in auto rotation. How can I enable auto screen rotation again? I will very much appreciate your help.

Thank you, Justin! I tried that but, as I no longer had an automatic rotation checkbox, I couldn´t solve the problem. The solution came through the Acer Chat service. Acer technician Mukesh was very kind and patient, we tried every possible option but the auto rotation option was not available, the only way to get it back was to install the suggested drivers: http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/Platform%20Drivers/Platform%20Drivers_Intel_10.18.10.3643_W81x86_A.zip?acerid=635664922342452308&Step1=TABLET&Step2=ICONIATAB8W&Step3=W1-810&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6 After installing these drivers, I recovered the automatic rotation checkbox and could solve the problem. I am very happy that I could solve the problem and very pleased with Acer´s customer service. Thank you for your suggestion. Kind regards, María Inés.

  • Screen rotation using newest fglrx?

I'm running an ATI X600 with fglrx 8.32.5-1 in Gnome and I'm trying to get counter-clockwise rotation in my monitors. Does anyone know if the fglrx driver supports screen rotation?
I've had no luck trying to use RandRRotate and also just Rotate and setting that to CCW or CW, but they get ignored when I look through Xorg.0.log. Am I trying to make something work that just isn't supported yet?
I'm looking at buying a new card anyways (nvidia) so maybe I'll just wait on it, unless anyone has good news.

I've not experienced this issue as we've discussed in your other thread mentioning this issue.
Has this occurred to you across various OS releases?
Does it occur across different e-mail sources and providers?
