[SOLVED]Skipping initramd

How do I know if the boot process skips initramd? I have installed the HDD controller driver and root fs into the kernel.
I have read that this is the way to make the boot process skip initramd/initramfs.

    Simplified explanation:
    flexget is in the AUR
    python2-sqlalchemy is in the repos
python2-sqlalchemy on your system is less than version 0.9.99
flexget on your system requires python2-sqlalchemy less than version 0.9.99 (i.e. the one on your system)
pacman wants to update all of the repo packages on your system
repo python2-sqlalchemy is at version equal to or greater than 0.9.99
pacman can't upgrade to the repo version of python2-sqlalchemy because it would break the version of flexget on your system
    Solutions:
remove flexget and upgrade your system then re-install flexget when it works with the current version of python-sqlalchemy
wait for a version of flexget that supports the current version of python-sqlalchemy and then upgrade your system

  • ITunes 7.1 + Air Tunes Issue

    Hi!
I just upgraded to 7.1 today and have been having issues with air tunes. For some reason when playing songs they will drop out continuously every so many seconds (usually between 30-50).
I am not doing anything different than normal, I'm not running any huge programs like photoshop while this error is occuring.
As anyone else been having this issue?

I've had choppy playback so much I could puke.
One reason seems to be if memory is filling up. See Activity Monitor and if the green part of memory is going away, that's one reason. Seems the only solution is to reboot as quitting all programs doesn't bring back any green and doesn't solve skipping problems.
Another reason is some other activity. If you're scrolling fast or crunching pixels in Photoshop, that could cause skips in the moment. It shouldn't, but it happens to me, and has been happening for a year or two.
But I think this latest release has some problem. Suddenly there's lots of threads talking about it. ANd I have it skipping with 3gigs of free ram free, and only Safari showing a simple page running on it.
The first song after I reboot, plays ok, but then it stutters, like fifty or a hundred periods of silence per song, scattered around randomly, each 0.1 to 1 second long. All songs finish, if you call that finishing, and they seem to take the correct amount of time to finish.
Maddening. iTunes is my stereo now!! will I have to go back to the old CD player?

  • Has anyone solved itunes skipping?

I posted a little while ago about this problem and it seems I was not the only person experiencing the problem of itunes sounding like a skipping cd. A number of different suggestions were made, and I've gone through all of them to no avail, and want to know if anyone knows how to actually solve this problem.

I uninstalled all of the Apple software on laptop, restarted the laptop and reinstalled the latest iTunes download.
iTunes then started working and I didn't get the message.
But I've just installed Quicktime to get my iTunes videos working and now I get the error message again

  • Nano skipping problem solved? (songs skipping while playing)

Well, not "solved" per se, but there does seem to be some concensus on the cause of these skips...
True, the nano is solid-state storage, and will not skip due to the same root causes that hard drive models might skip.
HOWEVER, that does not mean that the nano does not skip due to other reasons.
People on this forum, as well as members of iLounge have reported skipping problems. Concensus is that it is the nano's incompatibility with LAME encoded MP3s (some say that it's only VBR, yet some say it is also with CBR tracks).
The symptoms are tracks that skip on the nano, but play perfectly fine in iTunes (or any other player for that matter). I've heard that the mini also has this problem, but I cannot confirm... I can confirm that it happens often on my nano...
I have a very large collection of LAME encoded MP3s, so re-encoding is not a reasonable option...
If you are experiencing these issues, please report them to Apple... We need a firmware fix for this...
Question: Does anyone know if Apple is already aware of this issue, and plans to fix it in the next firmware update?

If it's skipping in iTunes and your iPod, then it is likely you have a bad file...
While there is probably a way of knowing what encoder was used to encode a file, I don't know that off hand...
I know my files are all LAME encoded because I ripped them using LAME...

  • Skipping through youtube movies stops movie, sound continues[SOLVED]

    Dear Everyone,
I've been having the following problem for a while:
Whenever I try to watch a youtube-clip in flash format, and I try and skip forward, the image freezes, but the sound continues. This happens both in Chromium and Firefox. Is there someone who knows what's going on, and if there is some way to fix this?
I currently have flashplugin-11.0.1.152-1 64-bit installed, and the nvidia-285.05.09-1 64-bit drivers for my video card.
    Thanks a lot!

Oh, well, I feel kinda silly now... I just remembered I had turned hardware acceleration on (by uncommenting the line in /etc/adobe/mms.config) and tried turning that off again, which seems to have solved the problem... Hope this might help someone else!

  • Nvidia-Settings skips needed resolution [SOLVED]

I've been messing with xorg.conf for a long time now, since my first days back on Ubuntu. It is something I hate, but something I've learned how to manipulate pretty well. For some reason, 1360x768 is completely skipped over in "modes" in the Nvidia X Server Settings. It is declared in the "mode" list in the xorg.conf, and as the virtual screen. Xorg.conf:
    http://pastebin.com/rtVEyn69
I'm not entirely sure why it is being skipped. I am currently stuck at 1024x768. Emerald also doesn't work, but this is not something that concerns me, just an added detail.
Last edited by Thomas Bates (2010-12-01 05:01:39)

    Here's what I see in Xorg.0.log:
Line 131 says that nvidia is not reading the EDID of your monitor.
Line 148 sets the virtual screen size to 1024 x 768
So... the EDID is information in the monitor that says "Hi my name is Mr. Monitor and I like this list of resolutions and I have this refresh rate and I enjoy long walk on beaches."  Either that monitor does not have EDID information or else the driver is having problems reading it for some reason.  It really doesn't matter and isn't something all that uncommon especially if it is an older monitor.  So then Nvidia says "If you aren't going to tell me anything, I'll just have to guess."  And promptly proceeds to guess wrong.  This is the part about the virtual screen size - you can't have a resolution bigger than the virtual screen size.  So if it is guessing that the screen is 1024x768 and setting the virtual screen size at that, that is the highest you can do.  No matter how much you beg and plead in your Screen Section of xorg.conf, saying "Come on and give me some lovin'.  I want a bigger resolution, please.  With sugar and a cherry on top."... no matter how much you plead, it will look at that virtual screen size and say, "Sorry. I don't know of anything that big, but I'll tell you what - I'll give you as big as I can think I can go, instead.  My virtual size is 1024x768, so thats the best I can give you."  And so, like an ever-faithful puppy, X gives you the best it has to offer.  And unlike that puppy, X does not poop on the floor afterwards.
So that is how the story goes.  The moral of the story is that we need to tell X and Nvidia that your screen can do better than Nvidia is guessing it can.  And since your monitor does not have the EDID to tell it this, we must tell it this.  This is done through the use of Modelines.  Basically, you go online and find a Modeline calculator... such as http://www.arachnoid.com/modelines/    ...then you tell the calculator what resolution and refresh rate you want to add.  If X is correctly guessing most of your resolutions, you don't need modelines for them; you just need the modelines for the resolutions you want to add in.   Then you put the modeline that is generated into your Xorg.conf, under the Monitor section... you can see an example of this on that website down below where it goes into detail on what a modeline is.
Hopefully once the modeline is in place, when X starts up it will see the modeline and say "Here's a piece of info on my monitor... i think i will use it."   It then will check that modeline against the horizontal and vertical refresh rates that you specified in your xorg.conf (HorizSync and VertRefresh) to make sure that you aren't trying to trick it into doing something the monitor is incapable of.  If it passes the test, then that resolution is added to the pool of resolutions for the monitor, and then the virtual screen size is set to the largest resolution in that pool (which you made the modeline for) and everything is peachy.

  • [Solved] Grub Skips Menu

I've just got a new laptop (Asus M50) and I've been trying to get Arch Linux running with encrypted / and /home partitions by following this tutorial: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sys … r_dm-crypt
I installed Grub to my /boot partition (which is unencrypted), but upon reboot I was presented with a blank screen and a flashing cursor.  I suspected Grub wasn't installed correctly, so I reinstalled it by running (from the ArchLive CD):
    # grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/boot /dev/sda
Which seemed to run fine, and Grub now actually loads at startup, but it immediately presents me with a grub prompt.  Now I can boot manually from this, for example:
    grub> root (hd0, 0)
    grub> kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sda3 ro
    grub> initrd /kernel26.img
    grub> boot
Allows arch to boot without a hitch.  As far as I can tell, my /boot/grub/menu.lst is correct so I don't understand why grub is skipping the menu, and a few hours of searching Google haven't helped much.
    EDIT
GRUB looks for its configuration file as soon as it is loaded. If one is found, then the full menu interface is activated using whatever entries were found in the file. If you choose the command-line menu option, or if the configuration file was not found, then GRUB drops to the command-line interface.
Following up on this, ls /boot/grub | grep menu.lst locates the file, but grub> find /boot/grub/menu.lst returns Error 15: File not found.  So does anybody know why there would be this discrepancy?  I have a feeling that fixing this will fix my problem.
    EDIT 2
I'm getting closer... I found a mistake in my previous edit, because grub> find /grub/menu.lst returns (hd0,0), so it was found.  I forgot that grub's root was not necessarily the root of the filesystem.  So now I can type grub> configfile /grub/menu.lst and it will bring up the menu, but it still doesn't load the menu before going to the prompt, and reinstalling grub yet again doesn't fix this.

Aha, success.  This guy (http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions … ad-562236/) seemed to be having the same problem as me, and his fix worked for me as well.  I'll just retype it here in case anybody else has the same problem, but the original post is here.
    Reinstall grub:
    grub> root (hd0,0)
    grub> setup (hd0)
    Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists... yes
    Checking if "/boot/grub/stage2" exists... yes
    Checking if "/boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5" exists... yes
Running "embed /boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5 (hd0)"... 15 sectors are embedded.
    succeeded
    Running "install /boot/grub/stage1 (hd0) (hd0)1+15 p (hd0,0)/boot/grub/stage2 /boot/grub/menu.lst"... succeeded
    Done
Now for whatever reason the final line (Running "install...") is not correct so if you run it again, but remove "/boot" from "/boot/grub/menu.lst" everything works:
    grub> install /boot/grub/stage1 (hd0) (hd0)1+15 p (hd0,0)/boot/grub/stage2 /grub/menu.lst
Reboot and it should go straight to the menu.

  • [SOLVED] e4defrag skipping home

I've just noticed something curious that seems to have changed recently.
    When I run:
    sudo e4defrag -c /
    sudo e4defrag /
The root directories are processed but the home directories seem to be skipped. If I specify the home directory, then all's fine and it works on the home directories. But I'm curious as to why this seems to have changed. I thought the "/" argument as above would include "home". I've got Arch on 3 PCs and it's now consistently this way with all of them.
I've searched the wiki, the forums and google and I'm coming up a blank.  Any ideas would be very much appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Jules

  • [Solved] Flashplugin skipping

Solution was to do a complete reinstall.
When watching streaming flash videos while using awesome or i3, if the mouse is not moved for around 10 seconds the video freezes and the audio repeats the last second on loop until the mouse is moved. The video then jumps forward to where it would have been had it not frozen and pauses while the audio plays everything up to that point, then both continue. This issue doesn't appear when using E17.
Looking at the output of chromium and firefox, flash reports no errors other than failing to open the VDPAU backend (which I believe I shouldn't need).
Flashplugin, chromium, firefox, awesome, i3, and E17 were all installed using pacman -S 'package name'. All packages are the latest versions available.
    My systems is as follows:
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 945
    Ram: 4Gb
graphics card: AMD HD4890 using xf86-video-ati
Until recently I had been using lightspark from the AUR as a flash replacement and had tried gnash in the past as well.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue or knows how to fix it as I can't seem to find any information on this issue.

I seem to recall having this problem when I first set up the system about a year ago, I think this was a reinstall after using windows for a while. Since then I've stopped using AMD catalyst and have been using lightspark.
I'm wondering whether it's something that broke way back during the install or in the transition between AMD to xf86-ati (maybe something with the custom repos), and whether it's worth just wiping and reinstalling.
Any idea whether it's possible to get flash to be more verbose?

Right, I've figured it out. Turns out the "missing" packages have been removed/renamed in the AUR database. Here's a one-liner that will print names of all such packages:
    for x in `pacman -Qqm`; do [[ $( yaourt -Ss $x | grep "installed" | wc -l ) == 0 ]] && echo "$x"; done

  • Depot Excise Invoice number skipped ???

    Hi Everyone
For Ex. say our depot excise invoice number range is from 1to 100, assuming the current number is 51. Some day back there was a jump in the depot excise invoice number range. In between 1 and 51 the number "25" is missing.
So the excise department has asked the company as to why we have skipped the number 25.
I have checked the table J_1IRG23D, but the skipped excise invoice number is not appearing in the tables, I mean it says "No table entries found for the specified key"
Our Company wants to know the exact reason as to why the system has skipped the depot excise invoice number "25".
Whether it is the system mistake or user mistake or some body else fiddling with the system.
Please offer you valuable suggestions to solve this problem
    Thanks & regards

    Hi,
SAP 99.9 % will never skip the number range on its own.
    As per my understanding:
1.Some one has manually deleted the Depot Excise Invoice number after creation (due to the user mistake at selecting the
appropriate Incoming Excise invoice, Price , material or etc reason. And while creating the New Depot excise Invoice Number
he forget to adjust the number range at object 'J_1IDEPINV' for corresponding Series Group. This u can confirm by checking
the entry at Item level, instead of Header at it will not show that entry.
2.May be due to the Depot Sales Returns for respective Depot Invoice canceled and Deleted by the user.
Here, deleting the excise Invoice is not Valid practice as per Excise Tax rules of GOI.
    3. Kindly check, whether Number Range Changes happend for respective Series Group between the Fiscal Year 2010-11.
Please feel free to correct me and It will be a value addition if you find any other solution.
