  • Strange trouble with Color

I experience strange trouble with Color I can't overcame. I try to export DPX sequences in Color ("manually") without using Final Cut. I navigate in setup room to my folder where the files are stored and after I open that folder there is nothing there at all. I tried different folders as well sometime it opens empty and I have to go back up and open folder again to be able to see the contents. But some folder are never "refresh" always opens empty , but I am 110 present sure there are files in them ( I check in Finder). This starts to happen after 10.5.2 update. I have no idea what to do with this and how to overcame that problem., please help.
My setup is Mac pro 2x2.66Mhz , 3GB Ram, ATI Radeon X1900 video card, 2 Apple cinema displays.
    Mac OS X 10.5.2, Color 1.0.2
    Thanks!

Let me see if I understand this...
What you are attempting to convey is that you are trying to import .dpx files into COLOR directly and that COLOR does not recognize the files.
My bet would be that there is an issue with the .dpx file format. It may be the way they are written, stored, named, the bit-depth... any number of issues. The fact that they don't show up is COLOR's way of telling you that there is a compatibility problem. My experience is that 10-bit and above is poorly handled at the moment, and is not supported at all by some previous versions of Quicktime and Shake, for example, under Leopard, and not even Tiger .4.11. What I started getting were perfect proxy renditions, but actual rendered material was almost pure noise, except there were shadowy remnants of the original scene.
Consider yourself lucky that the application stopped you at this point, rather than allow the project to go forward, then corrupt after you had devoted a considerable amount of your time and energy to it, then have to go back to fix the original files and do ti all over again, or struggle with reconform, etc.

find his notifications from previos dates, so all his notifications have been lost. However nobody else have a trouble like him. Maybe somebody can tell me what is a reason of this problem. I think that it is a user actions, but I really don`t know what had he did.

    Welcome to the forums !
Can you pl post the steps to reproduce the user issue ? Can you see the notifications if you are logged in with System Administration or Workflow Administrator responsibility ?

  • [Solved] Strange problem with my '/home/evert/Music' folder

    Good evening everybody,
I'm having since a few weeks some very strange problems with one directory on my hard disk: '/home/evert/Music/'.
The problem is that this directory excists, with all it's subfolders. But i can't see a single file (mostly mp3's) in that folder or subfolders.
Some more background information to make sure i'm not doing something wrong :
http://pastebin.be/4419 : the log file of a 'mpd --create-db' command. This clearly shows that mpd fills his database with the music. And even more, i'm able to play all that music.
    evert@localhost ~/Music $ du --max-depth=1 -h -c | tail -n 1
    15G total
So this folder really excists and is filled with a lot of music files normally .
    evert@localhost ~/Music/Metallica/loaded $ ls -a
Strange ? In this folder really was music acording to the mpd --create-db log file ?!
    drwxr-xr-x 161 evert users 8192 2007-08-10 17:57 Music
As user i'm having all rights to this folder, so that isn't the fault.
Even when trying to see the files, neither konq in su mode or MC works.
Anybody who knows something more about this problem or could help me a bith further pls ?  I'm running XFS as filesystem on this partition.
    Thanks in advance,
    Evert

  • [SOLVED] Strange issue with dhcpcd

Alright, so today when I booted up, I tried to connect to my campus' wireless network using Wicd, but it timed out every time it attempted to obtain an IP. So I ran through my usual steps to get wireless up in the console (ifconfig -> iwconfig -> dhcpcd), but dhcpcd caught SIGHUP as soon as it started running. And that's not even the weirdest part- I now have a process with ID 2309 for dhcpcd that respawns every time `kill -9' is used. Anyone have any idea what's going on? I'm at a total loss here.
EDIT: Alright, the issue seems to have remedied itself. I'm still not sure what happened but it's working, so I'm gonna flag this as solved for now.

well, that should be titled [Solved?]
This is what seems to have fixed it for me:
    * log out of kde
    * drop to console as root
    * use bluetoothctl cli to remove the mouse and add it again...
No idea why this works when you use bluetoothctl and not the kde settings gui (bluedevil), and no idea what was causing the issue in the first place... but happy mouse

  • [Solved] Strange error with sound modules

If i modprobe any sound modules, i get strange errors which tell me to lookup dmesg.
    The error output looks like
WARNING: Error inserting snd_mixer_oss (/lib/modules/2.6.13-ARCH/kernel/sound/core/snd-pcm.ko): unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
FATAL: Error inserting snd_pcm_oss (/lib/modules/2.6.13-ARCH/kernel/sound/core/oss/snd-pcm-oss.ko): Unknown symbol in modules or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
The same for my soundcard drivers etc, simply any alsa module.
    My modprobe.conf looks as follows.
    install snd-pcm modprobe -i snd-pcm; modprobe snd-pcm-oss; true
    install snd-seq modprobe -i snd-seq; modprobe snd-seq-oss; true
    options snd device_mode=666
    alias snd-card-0 snd-ens1397
    alias sound-slot-0 snd-ens1371
Well, this should work fine (as i know). Looking up dmesg i get the following:
    snd_pcm_oss: Unknown symbol snd_info_unregister
    snd_pcm_oss: Unknown symbol snd_info_get_line
    snd_pcm_oss: Unknown symbol snd_pcm_format_width
I've got this problem since i updated to 2.6.13-ARCH.
Since this problem causes hotplug to take 10 minutes to start, it's annoying. I'd appreciate any hint what i could try.
    Thank you,

    That did solve my problem.
    Thank you alot!

I'll link you (again) to the Forum Etiquette. Please read all of it.
Don't expect that help vampirism will be tolerated here, it won't.
I'll also remind you of the Arch Way
This user-centric design necessarily implies a certain "do-it-yourself" approach to using the Arch distribution. Rather than pursuing assistance or requesting a new feature to be implemented by developers, Arch Linux users have a tendency to solve problems themselves and generously share the results with the community and development team – a "do first, then ask" philosophy.

  • [Solved]Having trouble with Grub detecting Windows 8 in dualboot

    Hey there,
I have a UEFI board. When I first installed archlinux I did not used the Windows boot partition. To fix this I loaded up the installation media, mounted the partitions as they should be, mounting the microsoft boot partition as /mnt/boot and mounted my UEFI partition into /mnt/boot/efi. I reinstalled the kernel and regenerated the fstab. I also reinstalled grub and os-prober and such and regenerated the config.
When I did all this, there is still not  /boot/EFI/Microsoft. The grub mkconfig does not detect the microsoft boot at all.
    What am I missing?
    Thanks!

I am using 2 disks: sda and sdb.
I made sda2 is the windows boot partition, sda5 is the root partition for arch, sda6 is the UEFI partition I made for UEFI, sdb2 is the home partition.
I followed the commands in the beginners guide.
    Originally I did
    mount /dev/sda5 /mnt
    mount /dev/sda6 /mnt/boot
    mount /dev/sdb2 /mnt/home
pacstrapped and generated fstab and did the three commands for grub before arch-chroot
    # umount /sys/firmware/efi/efivars
    # modprobe -r efivars
    # modprobe efivars
Arch-chrooted, changed clock, changed hostname, changed passwd, then installed grub
    # pacman -S grub efibootmgr
    # grub-install --target=x86_64-efi --efi-directory=/boot --bootloader-id=arch_grub --recheck --debug
    # grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
    Exited, unmouted, and rebooted
Grub arrives but of course Windows is missing. Windows boot is in sda2. I made sure by looking in gparted lol
At this point I booted installation media again and remounted
    mount /dev/sda5 /mnt
    mount /dev/sda2 /mnt/boot
    mount /dev/sda6 /mnt/boot/efi
    mount /dev/sdb2 /mnt/home
Did pre-grub stuff then arch-chrooted in and reinstalled the kernel and grub and grub config
    # pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/linux-3.xx-x.pkg.tar.gz  for reinstalling the kernel in the chroot
At this point I rebooted but I forgot to regenerate the fstab. So I remounted everything the same way, deleted the fstab and regenerated it. The fstab looks ok when I log in. I also then reinstalled grub and made the config again.
This is where I am at now. I also get this weird issue when I shutdown, it immediately starts up again. I know this could be an issue with the Windows 8 fastboot, but I know I disabled that before I installed arch linux.
Any tips would be great. I'm not sure where to go from here.
And yes you're right it should be /boot/efi/EFI/Microsoft. I have /boot/EFI/EFI/arch-grub but not Microsoft in there

    Hi all.

Although using bumblebee I can use `optirun` to run applications via nVIDIA GPU.
But I still can not work if I don't load the kernel with 'nomodeset' parameter.
If 'nomodeset' is not presented. The screen would be off after 'Waiting for uDEV events'.
Or if I compiled 'i915' module into initramfs the screen would be off immediately after the initramfs is loaded.
Even when blackscreen occurs X launches normally. I can check the log and I found nothing inproper there.

    I've done a experiment.
First I boot the kernel with nomodeset parameter.
Then I use these commands to manually load intel drivers.
    sudo modprobe -r i915
    sudo modprobe i915 modeset=1
After that I get a black screen.

  • [Solved]Strange problem with netcfg

I broke netcfg, and I'm not really sure what's wrong.  Here's what happened.  I installed netcfg, then installed archassistant.  I started by setting up a profile in archassistant, then decided that I wanted the profile to startup at boot.  So, I added the profile to rc.conf, ran /etc/rc.d/network start, and noticed that it was looking for the profile in /etc/net-profiles, instead of /etc/network.d (which is where archassistant was looking).  So, I copied over the file, ran network start again, and up it went.  Then I opened up archassistant, which had been set to autoconnect.  But instead of saying "wlan0 is already in use" (like it had been saying when I tired to reconnect before), is connected again.  Somehow, both the network deamon and archassistant managed to connect at the same time, both using wlan0. Not thinking much of it,  I rebooted, hopping it would connect properly at startup, but... now neither one will connect.  The network deamon times out, and archassistant just says it can't connect.
I know that was a long winded explanation, and i"m not really posting any real info, but I have no idea where to start with this one.  So, anyone have any idea what happened?
Last edited by LazarusHC (2008-03-19 08:16:48)

Ahah!  I figured it out.  Unfortunately this error occurred because of a chronic condition that I have. It's called I-can-do-it-without-the-manual syndrome.  If I had actually read the wiki completely, and followed it's carefully and clearly laid out directions, none of this would have happened.
As it turned out this is what happened:  I set up a profile with archassistant, then proceeded to set the profile to startup at boot.  The problem is that the netcfg 2.0.6-1 package comes with both v1 and v2.  So, being the dunce I am, I actually set up a v1 profile, (which did work at first), and up it went.  I then attempted to run archassistant, which was using v2; this somehow broke v1 (I'm still not sure how, not that it matters), and then when I tried to use archassistant (in another stroke of genius), I forgot to run it as root or at least sudo.  Thus, archassistant wouldn't connect, either.
So, what did we learn?  READ THE WIKI!  Oh... and run archassistant as root, or it won't connect (they really should do something about that).

  • SOLVE strange problem with suspend and resume with gnome-power-manager

I have pm-utils and gnome installed.
Suspending and hibernation works well from the command line ($ pm-hibernate and $ pm-suspend).  Resuming works without any problems.
Suspending from gnome "Shutdown dialog" works perfectly as well.
However, if suspending is initiated by gnome-power-manager something strange happens:  After pressing the power button resuming switches to hibernation and my laptop turns off.  Resuming from disk works fine again.
Now, suspending works fine again if I change and save any config file in /etc/pm/.
Here comes the strange thing:  It doesn't really matter what I change as long as I save it.
However, as soon as I reboot resuming fails again the way I described above.
Anyone have a clue what's going on?
I get no error messages and I've tried all sorts of boot entries.
Last edited by mehldutt (2007-12-26 19:42:31)

After some try and error my guess is that "HAL" is responsible for this problem:
I deinstalled ACPID and 'pm-utils' and switched to 'uswsusp'.
I made the appropriate changes to the appropriate hal-scrips
    usr/lib/hal/scripts/hal-system-power-suspend:
    #!/bin/sh
    /sbin/s2ram --force
    usr/lib/hal/scripts/hal-system-power-hibernate:
    #!/bin/sh
    /sbin/s2disk
After these changes I still have the same problem:  immidiatly after resuming form suspend (via power-button) my laptop hibernates (s2disk).
However, if I delete all entries in "usr/lib/hal/scripts/hal-system-power-hibernate" resuming from suspend works fine again, but hibernate doesn't of course.  So, some script must be calling "usr/lib/hal/scripts/hal-system-power-hibernate" emmediatly after resuming from suspend.
A couple of weeks ago everything worked fine.  My guess is that one of the recent hal-updates is causing this.
How can I figure what script is calling "usr/lib/hal/scripts/hal-system-power-hibernate" after resuming from suspend?

I use openvpn to protect my network traffic. But when my PC is connected to the remote openvpn server, my local printer (HP Officejet 4500) is unreachable (for printing and scanning). I use an up-to-date arch x64 install under gnome 3, and printing with cups/hplip. Openvpn is managed thru NetworkManager.

Then when I try to set the values, the add on completely bombs out.  What is even more strange is that it only fails on me for PurchaseCreditNotes in this company but if I point to another company on another server, it won't work for oDeliveryNotes or oInvoices either, but those do work in my current environment.  Has anyone ever seen anything like this?  I am working in 2005A PL 16 and the DI API is 6.80.318.0.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much in advance!  Have a great day!

One time I had a problem like this, and I saw that the user of B1 that I was using it didn't have enough permissions into SAP B1, so you check the permissions of your user.
