Thanks for the reply! So what I do? Just replace all SYSFS tags with ATTR tags? Is that correct?

  • Systemd-udevd Error

    Since the latest systemd updates I am getting this error from initram:
    systemd-udevd[247]: Error calling EVIOCSKEYCODE: invalid argument
    It does not get logged in journalctl, so I typed it off from the screen...
    Not quite sure what this means? My system seems to be working o.k. but this is a little bit embarrassing...

    This is only true of systemd in [testing]. OP Never stated what version of systemd they were using.
    Assumption taken because post is in testing forum.
    Version 206 confirmed by the complete output that Harey has posted:
    Aug 14 16:39:11 obelix systemd-udevd[57]: starting version 206
    Harey,
    Possibly the logging is not to be enabled on kernel command line but via /etc/udev/udev.conf i.e. set udev_log="debug" in that file.
    Can you try with that (not sure it will work with initramfs, it's something I don't really understand) ?
    Cheers

  • [SOLVED] systemd-udevd using 100% CPU and monitors go to sleep on boot

    Hi,
    Turned my PC on this morning to find an issue with the monitors going to sleep immediately after booting. The boot process is usually slim autologin to a cinnamon session. I can see as far as entering my LUKS passphrase, followed by a few additional lines, followed by blank monitors and monitors entering power saving mode.
    Booting with nomodeset on the kernel command line allows me to boot to a terminal and I can login etc, but obviously X doesn't start. I'm using xf86-video-ati drivers.
    When booting with KMS enabled I also have a runaway systemd-udevd process which is thrashing my processor and I'm unable to kill it (I've tried kill -9 and still it persists).
    The PC was working fine when I shut it down last night. No updates have been performed since, and no configuration changes have been made. I did notice that the power management dialog in the settings failed to open though.
    Any suggestions would be welcome please, as I've now lost half a day trying to get this resolved.
    TIA
    X.
    Edit: I've also tried downgrading xserver to 1.15, xf86-video-ati and the associated dependencies with no change.
    Edit2: I've also disabled slim and rebooted and the same thing happens - so I don't believe it's an issue with X but with KMS.
    Edit3: Booting with acpi=off on the kernel command line also fails with the same result.

    Turned out to be an issue with libdrm. Apparently I had run some updates yesterday before shutting down, but they didn't appear in pacman.log; instead I found them by looking in the pacman package cache and found:
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 110072 Jul 29 22:59 lib32-libdrm-2.4.56-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 160996 Jul 29 22:55 libdrm-2.4.56-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    Downgraded [lib32-]libdrm packages to 2.4.54-1, rebooted, and success.

  • [SOLVED] systemd-udevd renames network interfaces

    During install I enabled dhcpcd service like this:
    systemctl enable [email protected]
    Seems perfectly valid, eh? But after reboot network I've got the following messages:
    [ TIME ] Timed out waiting for device sys-subsystem-net-devices-eth0.device.
    [DEPEND] Dependency failed for dhcpcd on eth0.
    dmesg | less
    systemd-udevd[111]: renamed network interface eth0 to enp0s3
    It appears systemd changes network interface names. But then I suppose [email protected] is to be removed:
    [Unit]
    Description=dhcpcd on %I

    old to Linux new to archLinux
    jasonwryan -thanks!
    Your post helped me figure it out why my Ethernet interface name was changed to enp0s3 and why - I like the old naming convention ethx easier for me to remember.  So went the route with custom rules in /etc/udev/rules.d
    Here is what I used.
    70-my-net-names.rules
    SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", ATTR{address}=="08:00:27:3b:f3:cd", NAME="eth0"

  • [SOLVED] systemd-udev error after fresh install

    I downloaded the last arch install medium (2012-11-01), the installation on my laptop was OK, (just arch as only OS), I use the same CD to install it on my desktop.
    I have windows xp and arch (dual boot) after install arch on my desktop, grub boots just fine, but I ran into the emergency console of systemctl,  ctrl + D give me this:
    "systemd-udevd[805]: worker [835] did not accept message -1 (Connection refused), kill it" over and over again
    and then, the emergency console again.
    here is my fstab

  • [SOLVED] systemd-journald errors

    I set up a MythTV box the other day based on Arch (basically Arch+Openbox+Mythtv) and I get strange errors on shut down. It goes by extremely fast, but what I'm able to catch is:
    systemd-journald failed to write entry 25 items
    And some other stuff.
    I'm not sure if it's related but in dmesg I see:
    File /var/log/journal/eaa2513b7edf4267912b45e38d85d0e1/user-1000.journal corrupted or uncleanly shut down, renaming and replacing
    I've deleted the entire /var/log/journal/eaa2513b7edf4267912b45e38d85d0e1 folder so it would be regenerated, but it didn't help.
    Also, I've Googled this issue and found a bunch of topics with symptoms that match mine, but none of them have any solutions.

    Have you tried XBMC?  I use that and it is pretty great (of course I have no other point of comparison).  It also appears to have infrared remote control support (lirc) and also has android remote control application that works quite well (and some nice unofficial ones as well).
    No, I've not had a reason to try XBMC because MythTV has worked so well for me. I'm not sure what XBMC's capabilities are, but in Myth TV I was able to create custom menus using XML for my games, which is very helpful (I prefer to do this by hand, so I avoid the mythgame plugin). This HTPC is working _extremely_ well, I'm just trying to eliminate errors so I can take a clean image of it in case it needs to be restored down the road. I noticed another error regarding cgroup stating "option or name mismatch" on shut down which from what I'm reading appears to be harmless but I'm still investigating this one.

  • [SOLVED] SystemD NTFS partition issue's

    Hey archers,
    hope someone here can help me
    recently began testing systemd & I am facing a problem where I have to ctrl+d or give root password during every boot up due to systemd having problems with my ntfs partition ( i mount at boot as I have symlinks to that partition for documents & programs which run in wine)
    I have not enabled anything to do with mounting or even added the fuse module to load as it has already picked that up!

    as you can see my partitions are being mounted TWICE which is not what I want or expected!
    is there more documentation on what systemd does with mounts that could explain why i have multiple mount points for partitions or is this due to systemd discovering my partitions & mounting them at points based on label names & then parsing my FSTAB as well!
    I have read the wikki but there is very small info there & the links have not provided an explanation for this unwanted behaviour
    EDIT #2
    >>>>>>>>>>>SOLVED<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
    not an NTFS or FUSE issue
    I had previously installed mnttools!
    removed & now all is well
    sorry

    OK,
    After being spurred on to try to do this thing properly, this is what I came up with today.
    My fstab line (for a USB NTFS disk):
    /dev/sdb1 /media/samsung ntfs-3g noauto,users,rw,nodev 0 0
    Then I created the /media/samsung folder and gave the audio group read/write permissions.
    It seems that non-root users can only mount an ntfs partition if they use a version of ntfs-3g with fuse included, so I replaced ntfs-3g with the version from AUR, having removed from the PKGBUILD file the option "-with-fuse=external" (see this thread: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=44844 ).   I also had to set
    the ntfs-3g binary to setuid-root, dealt with here: http://www.tuxera.com/community/ntfs-3g … privileged (note- the instructions say this is discouraged, but it seems using ntfs partitions in linux requires some compromises).
    I can now mount the drive as an ordinary user.
    Then I set mpd back to run as user mpd, checked the audio group had access to all the mpd folders, and all was well.
    One hiccup which you might not have: mpd was unable to access my (external) sound card at first.  To solve this one, I used
    chmod 770 /dev/snd -R && chgrp audio /dev/snd -R
    As far as I can remember, that's everything.

  • [Solved] Systemd broke KDE

    OK, well, looks like my problems weren't actually gone. So i recently upgraded and switched to systemd and all that. I did go through the wiki for systemd and KDE and run the commands to start kdm on boot, and after a few other minor issues I managed to get it to start up once last night, but now it won't. It's definitely attempting to launch kdm, but it immediately drops back to the command-line login. X does work -- I can run 'X -retro' just fine.
    I'll put some logs here, but I don't see anything obviously wrong in any of these. If you have any other thoughts on troubleshooting this let me know.
    Here's my kdm.log:

    All the x.org drivers/modules are compiled for a specific version of X. The older X driver will probably work, as long as it is not too old to be compatible at all, but you need to recompile it and it will automatically choose the 1.13 ABI of the installed x.org server as long as support for 1.13 is already in the driver.
    Personally I would just recommend upgrading to xf86-video-ati-git from aur instead of downgrading.
    I have the 1.13 Xorg server installed; I installed xf86-video-ati-git from the aur and X stopped loading with the following errors:

    What Cdh said, with one small note:  I love this new trend of blaming systemd for just about anything, when it's rarely it's fault.
    Probably should have included this in the original post: If I remove the systemd init line before booting, KDE comes up just fine (but my wifi doesn't work anymore, which is why I'm trying to switch to systemd). If I leave systemd on, it doesn't. Seems logical to assume systemd is somehow involved.

  • [SOLVED] systemd 208 journald process CPU spike on LXC container start

    Hi,
    The problem is that whenever I start an LXC container, systemd-journald process goes on 100% CPU utilization and only stops when I stop the container.
    Setup details:
    % cat /var/lib/lxc/projects/config
    lxc.network.type = veth
    lxc.arch = x86_64
    lxc.utsname = projects
    lxc.network.link = virbr3
    lxc.network.flags = up
    lxc.network.ipv4 = 192.168.200.11
    lxc.rootfs = /mnt/lxc/projects
    lxc.pts = 1000
    lxc.autodev = 1
    lxc.cgroup.memory.limit_in_bytes = 256M
    The rootfs indicated is on a logical volume, /dev/mapper/virtual-projects.
    Details of journal when the spike happened:

    Nothing really leaps out to me.
    This only happens on Systemd-208. Rolling back to systemd-207 resolved the issue for now, but I can't help but wonder if I won't have this problem again on systemd-209 or whatever. Is there any additional configuration that I need to do in order to get LXC working properly with systemd 208+?
    Also, I don't know if this is relevant, but I got some filesystem permissions warnings on upgrading (and later downgrading) systemd.

    Hmm, just noticed it says systemd-journald exited with FAILURE. This is probably pretty informative to someone.

  • [SOLVED] systemd: no kernel messages in the journal

    Hi
    Currently the journal holds only application logs; I do not see any kernel logs in the journal. This is an old Arch system that was using syslog-ng but was transitioned to systemd when Arch made systemd default. This was working well until about three weeks back, when journal stopped holding kernel messages. The journal was causing journalctl to crash and I couldn't verify the journal since I had FSS setup but forgotten the keys. So, I had disabled the FSS, cleared the journals to startover again. Only to see kernel messages are not getting logged.
    I would be grrateful for any help in resolving the issue. Thank you!

  • [SOLVED] systemd switch, problems with slim/bootup

    My system will boot, giving me "OK" for everything it's doing. Then my system gives me a tty login prompt, but continues booting:

    Hopefully this isn't too much information (or completely irrelevant) for what might be a far simpler problem, but I'm just not sure what's going on. It might be worth noting that I only bothered to start switching to systemd today when I had to reboot and slim wouldn't start/get me into my WM(!) This is interesting to me, since I read (somewhere) that as of slim's last version, it would only work with systemd and not consolekit... but when I try:
    pacman -Qi slim
    It tells me that the last time I last updated/installed slim was November 5 of this year. Any ideas?
    EDIT:
    Latest nVidia drivers weren't working with my 7xxx integrated GPU. Downgrade to 304xx drivers or use nouveau.

    I tried starting X manually (typing in "startx" at the prompt, and I get the following errors:
    modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'nvidia': No such device
    Fatal server error:
    no screens found
    (EE)
    Server terminated with error (1). Closing log file.
    xinit: giving up
    xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
    xinit: server error
    It looks like I'm just having problems with my video card, but I have the proprietary nVidia drivers installed and X installed. The systemd wiki page mentions no changes that I would need to make to my xorg or nvidia configuration...

  • How to solve Audition CS6 error "The amount of audio to burn will not fit on the CD........."?

    I have a brand new PC that is MORE than adequate. I have once succeeded in burning a CD after learning all about time tracks and merging them. (made a few with only ONE track)
    Two things:
    1) I find that I must add a CD marker at the end of the WAV because Audition CS6 erases whatever is the last CD marker I've made. Very frustrating but now I know I have to do this but I have no idea WHY!!
    2) Right now I have a WAV that is just over 1 hour and 3 minutes with a total of 637.74MB of info. When I try to export/burn a CD, I get an error message stating "The amount of audio to burn will not fit.......".  I am using TDK 700MB blanks with a Pioneer Blu-ray burner.
    Obviously it will fit.
    What am I doing wrong, all of a sudden?

    Hey ryclark,
    Thanks for responding. Something else is going on here.....
    Here's what I re-replied to our friend...
    Thanks for the response.
    When I built this computer last Nov/Dec, it was built with the second
    fastest Intel 7i, quad-core chipset on an 64-bit ASUS motherboard. It's  running
    Win 7 Pro. It has a 500GB SSD "C" drive with another 14 TB of true hard
    drive space. It is set up with 64 bit. I had been using Audition CS3 for  many
    years and even go back to it's origin: Cool Edit and Cool Edit Pro. My
    learning curve was minimal, sans the CD burning, which I used other software
    for  which is now antiquated, so I need Audition for this. Between this and
    IZotope 3 I've repaired and improved many a recording. All-in-all extremely
    useful software.
    As for the idea "to burn it anyway", well the error message comes up and
    that's it - if I "X" out of that message and try to burn again the message
    comes  back  - so Audition will not let me. It is convinced that this file is
    longer than it really is, but only when I add track  marks to it!
    There are only 11 tracks.
    I was able to burn a CD of this same file but without all the track marks,
    so the same exact file length/size will burn, only as the one track.
    I've also succeeded in burning other WAV's , both greater and smaller, with
    and without multiple track marks, without issue. Of course all with less
    than the CD's max. capacity.
    This problem seems to be with this one file. I've even  re-made/re-recorded
    the file from scratch with no change. There's something else  going on here
    that I can't put my finger on. (I am "recording" LP's and making  personal
    CDs of them)
    Also, only from time to time, I have another error after burning a CD that
    states it could not verify the CD. For this I assume it is the blank rather
    than AA? The first might burn without issue and with the second burn I
    get the error. It is near the end of a stack of blanks, so.....
    As for the need to "mark the end" of the file makes a lot of sense but of
    all the other CD track-marking software I've used, none needed one to do
    this,  but this IS Adobe after all.
    You'd think there might be a smidge of intuitiveness with Adobe, but maybe
    not.

  • How to solve the 404 error

    Hi,
    How to catch or solve the 404 error in application.
    Some time we are giving some file name but that file is not avialable at that time it will give 404 error. how to avoid this error.
    If 404 error comes i want call some other file. Is it posible.
    Thanks Advance.

    Yes, this is because IE 5.5 (?) and higher have this wacky "Show friendly HTTP error messages" setting. You can disable this by going to tools -> internet options -> advanced and unchecking "Show friendly HTTP error messages". However as the default IE setting has "Show friendly HTTP error messages" enabled this isn't a good solution.
    I believe that if your error page is less than a certain size (in bytes) then IE defaults to it's own error page when "Show friendly HTTP error messages" are enabled. This size is something like 512 bytes or fewer in length.
    So basically try making your error page larger (more than 512 bytes in size) and see if that works.
