[Solved] Two Finger Right Click not working properly

When I use two fingers to perform a right click for example in chrome, then the context menu appears only for a blink of an eye and disappears directly again. (The issue appears independently from the application - I checked that)

I'm on a Lenovo T440p. I once got Ubuntu installed on this machine where right click worked properly so I highly suspect it is not a hardware issue.

Instead of using execution statements involving
synclient
on startup of X I'm now using /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf for configuring my settings. This solved the problem.
I realized by the way that in my former setup no matter how many fingers I used for pressing down the ClickPad it did always perform a normal click in addition. That is why the context menu disappeared right away: It performed a mixture of a right and left click.
@Head_on_a_Stick: No Problem, your attempt to help is much appreciated

  • Two finger secondary click not working!

I have a 15" Macbook Pro with Retina. Brand new as of December 2012-
I have searched everywhere for a solution to this! I have solved the problem only for a few minutes at a time by entering a short script into terminal, but nothing has worked permanently. I can get the secondary two finger TAP to work, but I can't seem to make the click to work... And yes, the option is set to work.
When I log in as a guest, the feature does work, which seems to indicate that the problem is confined to my user account. Can anyone help? I would appreciate anything!

  • Flex 2 14 - Two finger tap for Right-Click not working (Two finger double tap works)

I bought my Flex 2 14 a couple of weeks back.
I want to enable Two-finger tap (not click) for right click.. Unfortunately it does not work.
Weirdly, Two-finger DOUBLE tap works for right click..
    How do I get a two-finger tap?
I tried the regitry hacks from here (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Yoga-Flex-Laptops-and/Yoga-2-Pro-Two-finger-tap-does-not-work/td-p/1406... but no luck yet.
    Any help please.

I have found a solution but I am still annoyed I had to do my own tech work to get a common touch figure enabled. (By the way there's many threads out there on Synpatics drivers and touchpads not working right for many people on different machines.)
Anyway, indeed the fastest fix is to modify a registry entry for Synaptics. Just open  the regisitry edit software on the Yoga and then go through the folders: HKEY LOCAL / Software / Synaptics / SynTP / Win8
In "2FingerTapAction" all you need is to change the value from "0" to "2" - and presto two-finger tap is now a right click!
Much easier than going through a driver install / uninstall routine or any other of the suggestions I've found out there.
I wish Lenovo had this set up as a default. It's really a great gesture and it's quiet and fast.

  • Two finger scrolling does not work on my MacBook (late 2008)

Two finger scrolling does not work on my MacBook (late 2008) with either the notebook trackpad or a b/t conected magic trackpad.  Yes, I've set system preferences.  Suspect a driver or s/w problem.  Ideas?

Saw another post that hinted that you need to go to accessibility settings:
System Preferences > UniversalAccess > Mouse & Trackpad > Trackpad Options
Enable scrolling (and I enabled dragging while I was at it and it worked.  Looks like wierd things can get set even if you don't mean it to.

  • MB Air two finger scroll does not work for a user but does for another

    Hi
    MB Air. 10.9.3.
Defective Trackpad was just replaced. Two finger scroll does not work for the main user. I made a test log in and two finger scroll works. I booted off an external drive and two finger scroll works.
I pulled all of the user preferences out, logged out and in and still does not work. Zapped PRAM. Checked all trackpad settings. No luck.
    Tried this in Terminal:
    defaults write -g com.apple.trackpad.scrollBehavior 2
    Any ideas?

This sounds strange but check the settings in Settings>Accessability for the track pad. I belive your problem lies there not in Track Pad set up in Settings.

  • Two finger tap right click not working

Is anyone having a problem with two-finger tap to right click?  Two-finger tap to right click was working fine for a while, but it suddenly stopped on my Yoga 13.
I reinstalled the touchpad drivers, and it worked for a few days, then it stopped again.  Two-finger click still works fine.  So does one-finger tap to left click.
    Strange....

  • Two finger scrolling does not work ONLY on Firefox

This just started today, suddenly my two finger scrolling doesn't work but only when I'm in Firefox, offline and on Safari and Chrome it's fine. Restarting Firefox only fixes it for a few minutes, then it stops working again. All of the suggestions I've found that I've tried haven't worked, please if anyone could help and also break it down fairly easily, I'd really appreciate it.

'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

*In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on ''Help'' (or click on ''Help'' in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on ''Restart with Add-ons Disabled''.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
    * On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.

    * On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run ''firefox -safe-mode'' <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

The same issue happens on Firefox 35.0 running in safe mode, Mavericks 10.9.5, both with Magic Mouse and normal standard mouse...
It's unbeliaveble this issue is going on since more than one year ago, I can find people complaining about it since December 2013!
Oh, one more thing: I don't have a two finger swipe configuration, I have single finger swipe, so the actual problem is about scrolling the page in itself (considering I've tested it with a normal standard mouse as well....).

  • Right-click not working on trackpad

Hello! Yesterday, my Macbook didn't start up properly after falling asleep (not sure why), so I manually shut it off. After it restarted, I noticed that the two-fingered right click wasn't working properly. I can still scroll with two fingers, and I can right-click if I use a mouse. But the trackpad two-fingered click doesn't work.
I've restarted my computer twice, and I've tried turning the two-fingered right click setting on and off in System Preferences. Do you have any advice or suggestions? Thanks!

    Hi Cliff,
I'd love to help you out and wanted to upload snapshots of my preferences, but they're in German unfortunately and hence I realised it probably wouldn't help that much.
Anyway, I'm not familiar with boot camp, but these are my settings: In Mission Control i set all Mssion Control, programme windows, view desk and view dashboard to "-" (hope the labelling is somewhat accurate, I'm really not sure about the German-English conversion); and under Trackpad i set secondary click to "click or tap with two fingers". Note, I couldn't have "move with three fingers" activated, too, just as intelligent zoom - "double tip with two fingers".
I reckon this is total amateur talk I'm producing here, it's just what I figured out works for myself If you need more information, I'd be happy to help!
    Best wishes,
    Lara

  • DV6-2030sa right click not working

i have read the posts on a similar problem, but it hasn't solved the problem for my machine.
    I have a dv6-2030sa
the right click on the touchpad button does not work, even if you hold it down.
on initial start up, the left click does not work properly until you run task manager? quite weird.
have reinstalled drivers, was a problem, then seemed to get fixed, is a problem again.
perhaps a driver issue? the latest version (according to website), file sp49392 is what i have installed

Try to uninstall the device from the device manager (right click on the "Computer" in the start menu and choose "manage" - now if you're not using an external mouse, you can use the Start key  to open the Start menu, use the arrow keys to navigate to "Computer",  then press Shift-F10 for the menu, and select "Manage" and press Enter to activate it.)
One you have the touchpad uninstalled, restart the computer. You may not be able to move the mouse after you uninstall, so use the keyboard shortcuts.
the Start key and the arrow keys will allow you to select shutdown or restart, then "Enter" to activate it.
Windows will need to be completely loaded before it will install the drivers for the touchpad again, so you may not have a mouse for a minute or three.
If this don't work, try using the Synaptics 9.1 driver from Synaptic's website. You may lose functionality as fas as gestures or virtual scrolling, but the touchpad, left and right buttons should all work.
    Hope this helps!

  • 2008 Macbook pro left click not working properly after upgrading to 10.6.8

I have a 2008 Macbook pro and a few months ago after upgrading to 10.6.8 my left click has been wonky.
Using the trackpad the left click eventually gets "stuck" or stops responding and I have to push it multiple times before it does anything.  I have tried plugging in a mouse, but when I do so the mouse also behaves the same way.  The only way I seem to be able to get the clicking to work properly is to restart the computer with the mouse attached.
I have seen threads about trackpads being messed up by swollen batteries, but my battery is brand new and looks fine, and the clicking problem extends to an external mouse, so I believe it is something with the preferences.
I tried deleting  com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouchTrackpad.plist   and restarting and the problem seemed to be fixed, but then after about a half hour it returned.
Having to keep a mouse plugged into my macbook is driving me crazy, anyone know a solution?

I started having the same issue after update.  I'm on a MacBookpro running 10.7.2
ICalled apple and they did a remove battery reboot, a reload lion and a option/command/R/P reboot on startup and then the computer started working.  Two days later problem was back.  I then did a reboot and the computer was back to working.  Today the computer worked fine tell it went to sleep.  I had to do a hard reboot to get the Mac up and running and now no left click.  Please help. I can not use the Mac  with the trackpad, a mouse, a Bluetooth mouse, or a digital pad. All so signs of left mouse click not working.  One other item when you go to pick your user at startup the left mouse click works.  Help!

  • Clickpad Right Click not Working Consistantly

I just purchased an HP laptop with a Clickpad and reviewed your documentation for what areas on the pad to use for clicking however I can't seem to get a consistent right click even when I click in the area indicated by the diagram.  I can be almost in the bottom right corner of the pad's surface and still get a left click response.
Is there a trick to it I am missing or do I have a dud?

    Hello Kyraoko,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand the right-clicking action on the touchpad, of your notebook, is not working properly. It is likely a hardware issue, to be honest. However, please try the following steps before assuming anything:
    1. Tap the upper-left corner of the touchpad a couple of times to turn it off, then turn it on. This is considered resetting the touchpad.
    2. Performing a Hard Reset or Forced Reset is the next step. A hard reset clears driver instructions, recent configurations, etc. This forces the hardware to reread all instructions from the drivers and software stored within Windows.
    3. Update the mouse/touchpad driver. These instructions will guide you along the right path:
    a. Go to the HP Drivers and Downloads webpage. Enter your computer model number and then click Go .
    b. Select your computer model from the list of results.
    c. Select your operating system from the drop down menu and then click Next.
    d. Scroll down to select the driver category "Driver - Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices".
    e. Click the Download button next to the appropriate TouchPad or ClickPad driver. The file downloads to your Downloads folder.
    f. Open your Downloads folder and double-click to install the latest driver. Follow on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Source: Using and Troubleshooting the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 8)
    4. If that doesn't work, we will have to try a more direct approach of reinstalling the mouse driver:
    a) Go into Device Manager, then "Mice and other pointing devices".
    b) Right-click on the touchpad driver, and select "Uninstall".
    c) Restart the computer. This will force a new driver to be written based on the detected hardware.
    5. Try connecting a USB mouse to the computer. Test it to see whether or not it is working properly.
If those steps do not help, then I would call HP phone support so they can physically address the hardware of the touchpad. You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. Thanks for posting, and have a great day!

  • Satellite C50-B-14D - Two finger scroll is not working

I have had my laptop for about 6 months now and am generally happy with it. However, the two finger scroll has stopped working (it was working fine when I got it and for a while after). I know it's not essential, but it makes such a difference for the work I end up having to do, which often involves copying and pasting etc, and I really miss it!
I've read many threads saying that you should go to Control Panel, click on Mouse and go to device settings. However when I get to that point, my Mouse box just says "buttons; pointers; pointer options; hardware" and there is no "device settings" panel along the top. What can I do? I also can't find the synaptics driver anywhere to uninstall it, as some other people have suggested.

Obviously this additional touchpad feature isn’t available because the touchpad driver isn’t installed.
I recommend you to visit the Toshiba EU driver page and to download the touchpad driver for this notebook model.
I’m not quite sure what touchpad module this notebook supports (Synaptics or ELAN) but I think you could try to check both drivers.
If one would not work, check the other one…
After that you should see the additional tab within control panel -> mouse
