[Solved] Very quick question, Accessing NTFS windows drive

So I have Windows in my first harddrive (Bigger HD hold my music, games etc.)
And Arch is installed to the second smaller HD, How would I make it so that the NTFS windows HD would be automounted and I have the ability to view all my files?

chmod a+rwx /win
then add that above line to my /etc/fstab?
Will I need a reboot?
And what about the embedded spaces stuff? I plan on accesessing these files through a filemanager.

Help? How do I access a Windows Drive Structure?

Hi:
I found a sample file system browser example but it didn't really work. It ran fine but coudn't see any drives, directories or files.
How can my Java app. learn what drives are on the client's computer?
Where do I start, to get a tree of all the drives, directories and files on a Windows computer?

Just a heads up, the getRoots() method works for all file structures if im not mistaken.
Heres a bit of code too for anyone else that may be interested that will list all the roots to your console:

[SOLVED] Very strange P43 Neo-F + sata drive problem in vista...

Well I'd been running Windows 7 flawlessly apart from a few non-related motherboard problems, so I decided to install Vista.
Basically my main OS drive (sata) is always detected, but then occasionally (more often than not) my secondary sata drives will simply not be listed in device manager once the system is booted up. Now, I've seen this problem before, and it was sorted by right clicking 'my computer' going to 'manage' and setting the drives up to be detected. But this simply isn't the case here.They don't appear anywhere!
It sometimes sorts itself out once I click 'Scan for hardware changes' in device manager and they magically appear as if ive just plugged in a USB device, which is fine I guess...but each time it swaps the damn drive letters around! So having media library's in Winamp, etc or putting a shortcut toolbar to my music on the taskbar is all but pointless!
All of my hardware apart from Bluetooth has drivers installed for it, and nothing seems to be conflicting at all. Does anyone have any idea why this is
happening? because in all my years of computing I've never seen something as strange as this...
As far as I know I have the latest Intel INF drivers installed (9.0.0.1011)

My drives in BIOS are set to IDE mode (which has always been fine for me in the past). I set it to AHCI Mode to check if it boots but it just sticks on the same screen (flashing underscore). I'm sure it's driver related but I'm totally out of options now...you'd think installing the ones provided on the MSI site would get it working... :/
Another thing is under 'Storage Controllers' in device manager, there is only an IDE Controller. I'm sure there should be a SATA one there, too?

LibraryService.connect - very quick question :-)

I have a quick query on the LibraryService.connect method. If I have 10 threads calling this method one after the other (Basically using a synchronised wrapper method) will this method return a new Library session for each call OR is it possible that an existing session will be returned. If an existing session is returned and subsequently two threads try to perform a task simultaneouly on the same LibrarySession will this cause a problem?

a call to LibraryService.connect will always create a new LibrarySession
the LibrarySession class is thread-safe, but certain operations are not synchronized, such as starting and ending transactions. if you have multiple threads using a single LibrarySession, you must ensure that your transaction management is synchronized, otherwise you may end up with transactions being committed out of order, which causes an error.

Very quick question.... preview texts / missed call notifications

I've had my Z3C for over a month now. If I am totally honest.. I wish I had stuck to the iphone. But never mind, i am pleased i have given it a try.
Anyway... how do i turn on SMS previews? I've worked out how to get whatsapp message previews but I can't see sms previews.
Also, can i see that I have received a text or missed call while on the locked screen? When I receive a text or missed call while i've been away from my handset for a short time I sometimes don't realise unless i unlock the screen.
How do I change this? Thanks in advance

A quick question about WebDynpro SLD and R/3 with concurrent users

Hello ,
I have a very quick question about Webdynpros and SLD connecting to an R/3 system, when you configure a webdynpro to connect to an R/3 system using SLD, you configure a user name and password from the R/3 for the SLD to use. What I would like to know is when I have concurrent users of my webdynpro, how can I know what one user did in R/3 and what another user did? Is there a way for the users of the web dynpro to use their R/3 credentials so SLD can access the R/3? Like dynamically configuring the SLD for each user?
- I would like to avoid leaving their their passwords open in the code ( configuring two variable to get the users username and password and use these variables as JCO username and password )

You will have to use Single Sign On to achieve this. In the destination you have defined to connect to R/3 , there is an option to 'useSSO' instead of userid and password. This will ensure that calls to R/3 will be with the userid that has logged into WAS. You wont need to pass any passwords because a login ticket is generated from WAS and passed on to R/3. The userid is derived from this ticket.
For this to happen you will have to maintain a trust relation ship between R/3 and your WAS ,there is detailed documentation of this in help files. Configuration is very straight forward and is easy to perform

Quick question about SATA 2

Hi,
Very quick question,
Are the newer SATA2 Hard Disks compatible with the older model of the Mac Pro? May sound stupid, but I believe that the Mac Pro was released before the SATA 2, so just wanted to check the Mac Pro hardware etc will take SATA 2.
By older model of Mac Pro, I mean the one released before the newest available models (2 x 2.66Ghz Dual Core).

SATA 2 is backwards compatible with SATA 1. So you can install SATA 2 drives in a SATA 1 computer.

KM Windows Drive

Hi,
We are trying to create a new file system repository on our Portal (EP 7.0 SPS 12)
server, which isUNIX based and the file system repository is Windows
based.
The reference document we are following is:

We first create a windows file system with the read/write/execute
permission for all. Then we created the file system repository with
property search manager, security manager and ACL manager cache.
We also create a network path under global services -> network paths. However
when we look at the component monitor, we see "Startup Error: getting
mapped math - Failed to connect to server".
Any ideas?

Hi Deepu,
weather using WK2Security Manger or using ACL Security Manager is only a question if the portal or windows owned the permission.
Your mistake is in your configuration of the network path (which belongs to the global services).
Use jCIFS mus be activated. This is the first important option.
The network path must be accessed and the user and password must be valid.
You can verify this by accessing the windows drive using the network path and user/pwassword at operation system level. Perhaps you have to adjust your mount point at unix side.

Quick question, where to put global variables

Very quick question:
where is the best place to put global variables,
(e.g. a flag that turns on debug mode)
if they are needed by the entire application?
I'm guessing they should be placed in their own class.
But should I make them public static final constants,
and just do Globals.MYCONSTANT
OR should i do "implements Globals" in all my other classes?
The first way seems simpler and more logical,
but in the examples for JSDT, they use the second technique.
Any thoughts?

I would suggest either creating a properties file for your globals, or adding them to the system properties at startup. Placing items like debugging tags in your code means that you have to change the code, recompile, and rejar before your change is implemented. Using system properties means that you simply have to change your command-line options (i.e., from -Dmyapp.debug=true to -Dmyapp.debug=false).

Group policy preventing write access to hard drive for Windows Service

I recently stood up several SharePoint Servers which use various domain user accounts as service accounts. Everything was going fine until the servers were moved from the staging OU to the production OU which has a server hardening GPO applied to it. Once
this occurred, all of SharePoint's logging via the Tracing service broke--because this account doesn't run as Local Service, but rather one of the domain user accounts.
After examining the Application event log, I saw it filled with errors indicating the E:\Logs\ULS and E:\Logs\Usage were not accessible due to error 0x5 -- access denied.
I explicitly granted permissions to the service account to these folders, and gave Full Control perms. I then restarted the service, but the Access Denied errors persisted. I granted Full Control to the entire E: drive -- the root folder -- with inheritance,
and made sure the permissions were inherited. And yet the problem persisted.
I installed a different application which can log to different drives, and it writes to the E: drive just fine when run as Local System. If I change it to one of the domain service accounts, it too produces Access Denied errors trying to write to the E:
drive, regardless of the NTFS perms.
The E: drive is a hard drive, not a USB or removable drive.
I found several posts here that explain how to disable write access to USB and DVD media, but I cannot find anything how to block writing to a hard drive. The server hardening GPO contains thousands of different settings and it'll take days to comb through
them all. Does anyone know of a GPO setting that can block writing to a hard drive, regardless of NTFS perms?
The servers in question are running Windows Server 2012 standard (not R2).
UPDATE: If I grant the service account the ability to log on locally (i.e. add it to the local Users group), and open a command prompt with "Run as User," I can write to the E: drive just fine. But the access denied
persists when running as a service. This leads me to believe a GPO is blocking the write access to a
service user but allowing the same account when logging in as an interactive
user.

I created a test Windows service that does nothing more than open two StreamWriter objects -- one to write into E:\Logs\ULS and the other into C:\ProgramData\Logs. The former writes dummy text once per second, while the latter writes errors. So error messages
will get written into C:\ProgramData\Logs.
I set up this test Windows Service and set it up to use my SharePoint app pool account, and this was written to the error log - the first line indicates the account being used.

It is quite evident to me that there is a policy blocking Windows services from seeing the E:

Quick question on how CBO determines hows to access table partitions

Hey all,
I have a large table that is range partitioned on a "code" within the table (about 23 unique values). I'm able to query it very quickly and easily when I specify the code in a query... ie:
select *
from large_table
where code = 'X'
However, I am looking to calculate the code based on a reference table that I have. I can easily re-create the performance drop doing:
select *
from large_table
where code = (Select 'X' from dual)
When running the 2nd SQL, my query takes a very long time. I think I understand why (CBO can't "guess" the results of the subquery) and I understand that the easiest to fix this would be to just run the subquery first and pass its results to a second query.
My question is if anyone knows of a way to provide the CBO a hint or any other trick that would allow Oracle to scan a single partition instead of the whole table using a method like this?

A quick question concerning replacing the DVD drive in a HP pavillion dv6-2057cl

I need to replace the DVD drive in this dv6 and I am wondering if there is any wiggle room when it comes to the replacement drive. Can I use another HP disc drive with a similar model # or am I restricted to the "identical" drive?
Some quick info follows:
OS = Windows 7 home premieum (32bit)
The drive pulled out of the laptop:

I have found a replacement with the same "Model #" and same "HP mPC PN" however it was manufactured in 2009 and I do not know if the placement of the SATA connection on the rear of the drive matches up or not.

It looks like the part number is the same. As long as the part number is the same, it is essentially the same part and should work without any issues. The only time that part may not work is if the part number is different. If any part is different from another part (firmware, hardware, etc.), it will have a different part number. As long as 461646-6C2 is the same on both, there shouldn't be any issue with replacing the drive.
