[Solved] wlan0 timeout during "Starting Network"

My problem isn't too big, it's just slowing down my boot for like 10-15 seconds while it times out detecting my wireless setup.  I have an Intel Pro 3945 card.  Once the system boots, I am able to use wireless just fine connecting through iwconfig (this is my third day using arch, so I'm actually quite proud about that).
/etc/rc.d/network restart
returns:
Error, wlan0: timed out
Warning, wlan0: using IPV4LL address 169.254.173.233
In /etc/rc.conf, I have iwl3945 in my modules,  I also have:
lo="lo 127.0.0.1"
eth0="dhcp"
wlan0="dhcp"
INTERFACES=(lo !eth0 wlan0)
in /etc/conf.d/wireless I have:
wlan_wlan0="wlan0 mode managed essid default"
WLAN_INTERFACES=(wlan0)
I've added the bang to the eth0 entry in INTERFACES because I get a different error when that runs, but my wireless runs just fine without it so I can try to work on that a different day.  If I bang out wlan0, it obviously doesn't work (though the error also doesn't pop up)
Thanks for your help!

thanks for the quick replies! I've got wireless working for the moment, so I think I'll stick with iwconfig until I get everything else sorted out... adding a single character was just too easy a solution to pass up.  I'll definitely keep my eye on netcfg2 though = )
Merry Christmas!

  • [SOLVED]wlan0 connects to wireless network, but internet does not work

I have a Compaq Presario A900 laptop just installed Arch on it, went through the wireless Wiki and also checked this thread: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=65467 (similar issue but I don't use any proxy). It has Broadcom card, 4311 Rev 02. I tried both the b43-firmware and broadcom-wl AUR packages and b43 works with my card.
I have tried with the shell to connect but "iwlist wlan0 scan" always returns no results. (Yes, I did try ifconfig eth0 down first as well before bringing wlan0 up). So I have tried wicd and it worked to connect me to my wireless network which uses WPA, and signal shows ~80% strength, however ping google.ca, nothing works as far as connected to the net.
Any output I should show I will if I have forgotten, thanks very much for your help!

Thanks for your help hokasch, however it was a result of needing to reboot and have proper daemon in rc.conf, and it has been working great last few days Thanks!

  • [Solved]Can't get past "Starting network" during installation from USB

I'm trying to do a fresh install of Archlinux on my laptop, following the Beginners Guide. However, I never get to the shell prompt because the installation gets stuck at "Starting network [Busy]".
    These are steps I followed:
    - I downloaded the latest Arch ISO.
    - I wrote it to a usb stick ("Kingston Data Traveler") with "dd if=archlinux.iso of=/dev/sdb"
    - I put the usb stick into my laptop (HP Pavilion dm1-4139sd), and booted it. I chose "x86_64". Everything seems to go fine, the only warning I get is: "microcode: failed to load file amd-ucode/microcode_amd.bin".
    - I get the message "INIT: Entering runlevel: 3" and "Starting Syslog-NG [Done]", after that its endlessly (at least 20 minutes) stuck on "Starting network [Busy]".
I tried the following variations on the above:
    - Wrote the ISO to a different USB, samen problem.
    - Tried it with a different Arch version (from August), same problem.
    - Turned kvm on and off, same problem.
    - Pressed TAB at the "x86_64" line and added "acpi=off" to the end of it. I then get:
        :: Triggering uevents....
        [ 19.697932 ] usb 1-1: device not accepting address 2, error -110
        :: Mounting '/dev/disk/by-label/ARCH_201209' to '/run/archiso/bootmnt'

ERROR: '/dev/disk/by-label/ARCH_201209' device did not show up after 30 seconds....
        Falling back to interactive prompt
You can try to fix the problem manually, log out when you are finished
sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
        [rootfs /]#
I'm not sure what to do in this prompt. At least the network isn't working and none of the normal commands.
    - I reset the DHCP leases on my modem, same problem.
    - I turned off/on the hardware WLAN, same problem.
    - I tried it with or without the LAN cable plugged in, same problem.
    - I tried it with or without the battery plugged in, and with or without the power cable plugged in. Same problem.
I also performed the Arch memory test, and the bios hard disk test. They both report no errors.
I did an Arch installation a month ago on this laptop, and back then it didn't have this problem. I still have that arch installed from back then and it boots/works without problem (I have Starting NetworkingManager [Done]). I know I technically don't need to install arch again, as I still have the old one, but I wanted to clean the changes I made to some settings files and I if it turns out this is some kind of hardware problem I'd like to return it to the store.
Please help! I'm not really that familiar with Linux in general, so it might have been a very basic mistake from me as well. I have no idea what to do next, except for formatting my harddisk (which I don't think should influence the installer?), or trying to install a different Linux distro.
Edit: The solution that solved this problem for me in the end was resetting the BIOS to its defaults.

DSpider wrote:Did you check the MD5 checksum? If you downloaded it using a BitTorrent client, then you don't need to (its hash is checked during downloading).
Yes, I downloaded it using BitTorrent and the MD5 matches.
    DSpider wrote:Try a different stick?
Yes, I tried it with 2 different USB sticks. They are both from the same brand ("Kingston DataTraveler"), so I might try different brands as well, but I don't think it is the problem.
DSpider wrote:Or at least a different method from that wiki page. For example, "dd"-ing it should work just fine.
The methods for writing the ISO that I tried so far:
    The base method:
    dd if=archlinux.iso of=/dev/sdb
    (from an Arch install)
The method without overwriting your USB drive (created a FAT32 drive with an VFAT filesystem, from an arch install)
    Using Imagewriter (from Windows)
Each method gives the same result: the laptop gets stuck at "Starting network [Busy]" when booted from one of the USB sticks. My modem indicates that it "sees" the laptop, but that the laptop has no established connection. When the laptop is stuck at the "Starting network [Busy]", all the activity on the USB stick stops (the light stops flashing).
The thing I find most strange is that the OS currently installed on the laptop has no problems booting or accessing the internet (both wired and wireless) at all.

  • Error when starting parser: timeout during allocate / CPIC-CALL:'TfSAPCMRC'

    Hello experts.
When I try to preview or refresh a Crystal Report document built on a BEx query I get the following error msg:
Database connector error: BAPI Error #0. Error when starting parser: timeout during allocate / CPIC-CALL: 'TfSAPCMRCV'.
We have done as suggested in "SAP Note 1032461 - MDX parser does not start", but without success.
This is what we've tried so far:
replaced the file "librfc32.dll" (in C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64)  with the new version mentioned in Note 413708.
tested the connection in SM59 - non successful
tested the report query with transaction MDXTEST - non successful
tried to start the mdxparser manually on server - non succesful, error msg: "The application failed to initialise.."
    We have the following config:
    MS server 2003 SP2 x64 ed.
    SAP logon 7.20
    MS SQL server 2005
    CR 2008
    new librfc32.dll version 7200.1.39.6461
Any ideas on what to try next would be highly appreciated!
    Cheers, IngA

    Hi Ingo.
We have only one application server.
I registered the new version of the file C:\windows\SysWOW64\librfc32.dll with regsvr32.exe successfully. I've also tried to copy the new file to the same directory as the mdxsvr.exe-file is located, but it made no difference.
Should I remove all other copies of librfc32.dll and only keep the one in folder C:\Windows\SysWOW64, or maybe register them all with regsvr32.exe?

  • [SOLVED] Unable to net-start "default" network in libvirt (KVM)

Hi. I've used this tutorial  and have net-define'ed a network from this xml, but when i try to net-start it, i get the following error:
    virsh # net-start default
error: Failed to start network default
error: internal error Network is already in use by interface virbr0
At first i though that some other network has already been defined and auto-started, so i've checked net-list
    virsh # net-list --all
    Name State Autostart
    default inactive no
Here is the output from $ ip a show dev virbr0
    4: virbr0: <NO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state DOWN
    link/ether ce:1e:b4:54:83:83 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
    inet 192.168.122.1/24 brd 192.168.122.255 scope global virbr0
I became curious, and found out that dnsmasq was running
$ ps -ef | ack dnsm | ack -v ack
    nobody 12333 1 0 13:04 ? 00:00:00 dnsmasq --strict-order --bind-interfaces --pid-file=/var/run/libvirt/network/default.pid --conf-file= --except-interface lo --listen-address 192.168.122.1 --dhcp-range 192.168.122.2,192.168.122.254 --dhcp-leasefile=/var/lib/libvirt/dnsmasq/default.leases --dhcp-lease-max=253 --dhcp-no-override
With that i thought that everything works just fine, and i should try to configure a virtual machine to use the default network.
    EDIT:
Looks like $ virsh edit fedora and /etc/libvirt/qemu/fedora.xml contain different things. I am pretty confused.
    /etc/libvirt/qemu/fedora.xml
    virsh edit fedora
    virsh # list --all
    Id Name State
    - fedora shut off
    virsh # start fedora
error: Failed to start domain fedora
error: internal error Network 'default' is not active.
How can it be started and not started at the same time?

Well, it turns out, i shoulde have run virsh as root, that way everuthing works fine.

  • [solved] wireless doesn't start at boot

I have BCM94311MCG wlan mini-PCI (rev 01) which works with b43 + wpa_supplicant nicely, except I can't seem to get to automagically start at boot time.
wlan0 always times out (wired connects at boot time just fine). I'd like my laptop to automatically connect to one of two networks, else remain disconnected.
Once started I can always netcfg2 <network name> and it connects no problem... I must have missed something in the wireless setup but I can't find what it is.
    my rc.conf:

  • Timeout during allocate error

Currently our production system SAP R/3 4.6B is having one CI and two application server. When enduser tries to upload a document from desktop to SAP, getting CALL_FUNCTION_RECEIVE_ERROR.
The CI works fine but when tried the same ftp to upload from app servers it is
    giving error.
The details of CALL_FUNCTION_RECEIVE_ERROR is as follows:

SAP note solution 211365. The root cause described that "hostname is protected by router or firewall" does not coincide since Central DB server is working and not the application server scenario.
My questions is , will the instance profile parameter change will fix it?
    abap/hostname_for_sapgui= hostname of APP server
How sapftp works in CI alone and not in application server?
The SM59, setting for SAPFTP is as follws:

    Security options inactive.
Has anyone has experienced this before?

  • RSTPTEST , RFC ping failed RFC error text: timeout during allocate / CPIC-C

    Hi all,
I was transporting the request in my landscape last week and all of sudden transports in acceptance system is not working and I am getting a error message as

The function terminates. Details about the error can be found in the trace file of the Gateway Monitor (SMGW).

, This is the 3 system landscape, common transport directory in development system.
    Actions taken:
Restarted the systems (PRD queue is working but not acceptance queue)
DIR_TRANS and Permission were given already and able to ping  from all the sytem
Host and service entry were maintained already.
RFC connections were woring fine without errors
I have seen many threads but none of the thread is solved my problem.
    Please suggest

  • RFC error text: timeout during allocate / CPIC-CALL: 'ThSAPCMRCV'

I am having this error pop up very frequently on some new SAP systems.  This will randomly happen and keep us from being able to release transports and import them in STMS.  I receive the following error:
There was an attempt to start the transport control program tp using the local RFC interface.
    An error occurred here.
    Error code: 4
RFC error text: timeout during allocate / CPIC-CALL: 'ThSAPCMRCV'
    - When I check the Transport Tool (STMS: import queue> check> transport tool) I get the following information:
    timeout during allocate / CPIC-CALL: 'ThSAPCMRCV' : cmRc=20 thRc=456#Time
out during connection setup (check that partner exists
    - When checking the TP System Log I receive the same error.  The RSTPTEST report does not give any additional information.  SM21 shows a warning and an error:
    Warning:
Communication Error, CPIC return code 020, SAP Return code 456
    Dialog Process No. 000
Problem cl: SAP web AS problem

    Error Text: 020456
    Caller: ThRecei
    Error:
    Problem cl: transaction problem
    Package: STTO
All of these errors are only pointing to a time out.  I cannot figure out why this is happening.  I checked the TMS RFC connection in SM59 and they are fine.  I have been able to work around this issue in 2 different ways.  First, I can delete the files in the "\trans\tmp" directory on the server.  Sometimes this resolves the error.  Else I have to restart the system.
I need to understand where this issue is coming from and how to resolve it.  It is becoming more and more frequent.  Thank you for your help!

    Hi,
i have had similar issues during this week. After looking for a solution everywhere i found out that i didn't set up the FQDN on this system.
    Symptoms were:
    se38 > RSTPTEST timed out sometimes(not always)
sm59 > TCP/IP connections > CALLTP_WindowsNT > test connections timed out sometimes (again, not always)
STMS Overview > Systems: I was not always able to distribute and activate configuration from the Domain controller via Extras > Distribute and Activate Configuration (it died on the mentioned system)
Transports failed mostly with the same error.
The error log was somewhere deep in ST11. It could not resolve our FQDN.
The solution, for me, was to add our FQDN to the WINDIR\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file.
We upgraded the kernel as well (from 7.20 patch 046 to most current) but this didn't help.
The FQDN is a concatenation of computer name and dns suffix of the network (if you have none, you can add one via rightclick on the used network adapter>ipv4>properties>Advanced>DNS tab, so in the end the host file looked like
    127.0.0.1   localhost   computer-name.ourSuffix.com
After this line has been added, the error stopped and the transports work again.
I hope it helps. Good luck.

  • Timeout during allocate of Vertex RFC

    Hi Guys.
Im facing this odd issue after an offline backup is completed and brings the system.
As you can see the Vertex RFC is no longer working and displays a timeout issue after a Sales programs tries to reach it.
Also when testing the RFC is unable to initialize.

That /boltons/D01/vertex/3.3/TransLink/verrfc is located on the same server as the SAP application, so i cannnot figure out why is showing partner not available/timeouts, when is pinging a program on the same server.
I have tried restarting the Dispatcher
    rfc/use_gwstart =1
Increased CPIC timeout value gw/cpic_timeout =120 (Increased CPIC timeout)
I have also searched thru these notes but still no luck
Note 581509 - Reasons for timeout during allocate
Note 638701 - Starting RFC servers takes too long
Note 948636 - Starting executables locally using RFC
The only workaround for this, is restarting the SAP Application, in order to have the RFC working again, but this seems an overkill to fix an RFC Ping Issue.
All ECC Systems have the same program version and configuration but only Dev system is facing this.
The whole point of this, is why when the system is shut down in order to perform an offline backup causes this, and the only way to fix this, is shutting down/start up the system again.
If you have some ideas of what could be causing this, it's would be highly appreciated.
    Martin

    Hi Martin,
We are experiencing the same issue with SAP/Vertex. Can you let me know how you resolve this? Did you change the SAP gateway timeout parameter? If so, which one is it?
Your help on this is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks much!

  • Using RS with SAP Netweaver - Timeout during allocate /CPIC 'ThSAPCMRCV'

    Hi All,
I am trying to connect to a remote SAP BI  server from my local SQL server 2005 Reporting Services. I was able to view all info objects in the query builder but when I try to drill down and  view members / drag and drop to create a query / preview the RS report, I get the following error ,

I have SAP front end and business explorer installed on my system. We also have the latest patches on SAP BI server.
I tried changing the timeout value but dint help.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Many Thanks,

some of the posts on forum suggested i should try from same domain i tried but in vain, then i updated the SAP kernel from 7.01 sp 14 to sp 55. but i am still facing the problem.
i created this system recently using system copy based upon export image of a system (ABAP stack ) but using ABAP+Java during export process (by mistake). then we tried to build system using import (ABAP stack only i know its weird but its up and running). I assume we should have builf export imgae using ABAP method but some how due to lack of time we proceeded this way.
The main problem i see is TP RFC . The output from prgram RSTPTEST is as below
everythign is fine except below entries
    under RFC destination
EFC ping - timeout during allocate / CPIC-CALL: 'ThSAPCMRCV' : cmRc=20 thRc=456#Time out during connection setup (check  that partner exists
    under TP call
RFC link and Offline Call shws me the same error as RFC ping. and there is no output from tp version and DB connect.
Can anybody please help me on the same.

  • STMS error - Timeout during allocate / CPIC-CALL: 'ThSAPCMRCV'

    Dear Experts,
We are facing issue in releasing or importing TRs.
1.When releasing TRs in DEV server, it is showing error message "Could not start control program TP" on status bar. But repeating the same process went successful.
    2. While Importing TRs into QAS, at the time of refreshing queue/adjusting import queue, it pops-up error  " timeout during allocate / CPIC-CALL: 'ThSAPCMRCV' .But after repeating same process, TRs were impoted successfully.
We had performed the following in DEV & QAs:
    1. Upgraded kernel to patch level 137.
    2. After that replaced TP & R3trans with latest patch levels 169.
    3. Re-configured STMS
    4. Restarted Server.
    Also checked,
(i). Report RSTPTEST in se38- sometimes successful; sometimes error :"timeout during allocate / CPIC-CALL: 'ThSAPCMRCV'   (ii). RFC "CALLTP_WindowsNT" in sm59 Connection is OK.
    Please help.
    Thank you in advance.
    Regards

    Re: STMS
Pls also check below things :
    - check that the "Gateway Options" are maintained in SM59 and the sapdp00/sapgw00 are maintained in the etc/services files.  SAP Note 52959
    - Please check SAP Note 773830 if you are on a cluster environment.
For the error regarding timeout during allocate / CPIC-CALL: 'ThSAPCMRCV' please check SAP Notes 581509, 566566.
    Thanks,
