[solved] WMFS statusbar and conky - conky appears on desktop as well.

Hello guys. I recently got into WMFS. I was able to use conky in the status bar. However, some text shows up on the desktop. I could not find any fix for this issue by searching. Here is a screenshot- http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/69 … x768s.png/
and this is my conkyrc- http://pastebin.com/gAJgnu9k
Would using double buffer or user_space none help?
EDIT: I just tried out_to_x no and it appears to fix the issue for me.

  • Firefox runs in background (appear in Task Manager Processes Tab) only and does not appear on Desktop

I have been using Firefox on my Desktop PC with Windows XP for a long time. However, today possibly due to some virus (I attached an infected flash drive to my PC) a suspicious change in homepage (www.delta-homes.com) of my firefox occurred. Simultaneously an error message of "WinZip" appeared on screen. I figured that there must be some software in "C:\Program Files\" which is also causing problem to my firefox. I opened Program Files and removed that folder named WinZip. (Tried to uninstall it but it won't happen so I had to use "Unlocker" to kill processes this folder was associated with and then deleted the folder.)
From that point onward, My FireFox started to behave weird. Whenever I click on Firefox icon or access firefox.exe from any source (start menu, quick launch, program files, Run Command), it starts but appears only in "Task Manager Processes Tab". In that Processes Tab, firefox.exe is continuously using 50% of CPU but it does not appear on Desktop at all.
To go a step further, I uninstalled firefox and tried to re-download from Firefox official website but the download fails in the start saying "Download is interrupted". (See attached Image). So I downloaded a previous version of Firefox (v 34.0) from www.filehippo.com and installed it but the same problem is happening with this version too.
I am confused and surprised what might be causing this problem. Everything else on PC running fine. Kindly help me restore my Firefox so that I may not lose any precious Bookmarks, Settings and other Data. thanks

  • [solved]Openbox margins and Conky

I have a 1 line conky that i want to remain at the top of my screen at all times. I set up a margin in openbox to leave enough pixels at the top to comfortably fit the conky. The problem is that when i first boot to my desktop conky is placed below the margin. If i restart X however conky is right where i want it in the margin. Does anyone know how to put conky in the right place the first time?
.conkyrc is setup for top_left placement and theres only a few pixels on the y axis from the top.
I call conky from .xinitrc  before openbox
I can't think of any other relevant info but let me know!

  • How to eject a dvd that is stuck and doesn't appear on desktop?

I did insert a dvd a few days ago and now it doesn't appear anywhere and I can not eject it. But when I turn on the computer the disc drive makes strange sounds. How can I eject it?

Disc drive making noises is not good. Even standard media rejection tricks such as holding down the mouse button which restarting the computer might not cause it to eject if the drive is mechanically malfunctioning.  You may have to look into getting the drive replaced and have whoever does it try to rescue to disc.

  • Disk wont eject and does not appear on dtop or in finder.

Put in a music (bought) cd and does not appear on desktop or in finder. Also cannot eject. Tried just about all I know apart from emergency eject. Would do that too but can' figure where the emergency eject hole is (if any) on the iMac G5 (power pc) 2005.
    Anyone help pls.

Hey there, couple of things here.
After checking out the forum I contacted Apple Care where they insisted that the optical drive needed to be replaced.
Apple store tells me that the "disk spit" prob has been recognised for a long time and they were repairing/replacing the optical drive. To no avail. They say it is usually due to the felt wearing and so not hanging onto the disks properly.
Have had the felt replaced (not covered by APP - handy for them).
As for the CD issue, I have also had the same problems.
Although last time I had these probs with disks not mounting, not ejecting and generally going into the twilight zone, it WAS a software issue.
The machine needed to be seriously repaired.
    Zeroed infact.
    Major drag.
Still, this iMac may look pretty, but will go for a power mac next time round.
Have had to buy an external HD coz this one keeps going belly up.

  • Ratpoison: Problems with windows autoscaling and conky statusbar

    Hi all!
I am newbie with ratpoison and yesterday made fresh installation. Everyting else did well expect window autoscaling and conky + dzen2 statusbar.
    What I did:
I followed those steps from archwiki for setting up dzen: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dzen
my .conkyrc looks like a same as in the wiki:
    background no
    out_to_console yes
    out_to_x no
    update_interval 1.0

    use_spacer none

    my .xinitrc looks like:

    FG='#aaaaaa'
    BG='#1a1a1a'

So I did 16 pixels hole for the conky statusbar. Still I cannot see anything on the top of screen. (Just empty hole)
Problem with windows autoscaling is that it doesn't fullfill whole screen. I can also see two additional small holes at the bottom and right side of screen (eventhought I didn't made those by the config). Strange isn't it?
I put my print screen, hope it tells more about the problem:
What I should to do text? Edit some files, but I dunno which one and how?
    I appreciate your help.
    Cheers!

I'm not sure about your dzen/conky problem, maybe you need to "unmanage" its window? See the ratpoison documentation.
That fixed autoscaling issue. Thx a lot!
Any ideas, what is wrong with dzen+conky bar? I quickly read ratpoison manual and didn't find any help for this problem.

  • [Solved] Trying to get conky to display hebrew right...

    ok,
So i've been using ${mpd_status} to display my songs on conky. However, some of my song's names are in hebrew, and hebrew has this problem that the terminal (and conky) display it the other way around. For exaple, hebrew word abc (a,b,c are hebrew letters) are displaed cba. So, I wrote 2 scripts: One to reverse the hebrew so on the terminal it looks "ok" (If it sounds rediculus to you, that's the way we get around the hebrew problem on computers, we've been doing it since computers were invented), and another to get the song's name and feed it to the first script.
So, after all this work, I managed to make the scripts display hebrew song names on the terminal perfectly. However, conky refuses to show my song names. English eongs work fine, hebrew songs are just not displayed. This leads me to believe there's a problem. I was wondering if the kind people of the forum can help?
PS I realize this is in the gray area between programming and help. That's why I put it in here. If the admins think there's a better place for it, please move this tread, thank you.

Additional info: Unless I made a mistike, the script's output should be utf8. I looked around and apperantly sometimes the font's at fault so I decided to try a hebrew font, but no luck.
SOLVED: Ok, solved my own problem. I saw this error:
UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\xa0' in position 0: ordinal not in range(128)
and decided to invastigate it. It lead me to the following page: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4924 … -in-python
Basiclly turns out python's print command outputs in ASCII. I modified my main as instructed in the page, to change the default encoding to utf-8 and it did the trick!
Another thing I had to do in my .conkyrc was to set "override_utf8_locale yes" in the config. I now have working hebrew in my conky! I hope others will find this post in the future and be saved the trouble.

This device is not eligible for the requested build (Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194")
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, followTroubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer.
Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart.
Avoid using an older or modified .ipsw file. Try moving the current .ipsw file (see Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations), or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.

Is it possible to make the "Present windows" desktop effect in KDE4 ignore some applications like conky?
I have tried to conkfigre the window behavior of conky by using the "window-spesific settings", but no luck there so far.

    You can try
    own_window_type desktop
but then you may 'lose' conky when adjusting desktop plasmoids.

keithfrommariettaOct 12, 2014 3:25 PM Re: IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgrade
Re: IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgradein response to pacoKAS
SOLVED:  IOS 8 Issues on iPad 2:
I just returned home from a visit to the Genius Bar. Like you and many others, when I upgraded my iPad 2 to IOS 8, it became practically unusable. It was VERY slow, lagged whenever trying to to do anything. Lots of screen freezes and apps spontaneously crashing. I was convinced that the processor on the iPad 2 just couldn't handle the new IOS and I went in to see about restoring to IOS 7.
Thankfully, I was hooked up with a very sharp guy at the bar. The problem is not with the OS, it is with it being an *upgraded* OS. He used the analogy of when you had an older Windows computer and how over time (and over upgrades), they just tended to get slower and slower because of all of the garbage that was carried forward in the upgrades. At those times (and if you've ever had a Windows computer, you get this), the only thing that would speed it up would be to wipe the machine and do a fresh install of the current OS and then reload your apps, and the viola, everything would be fast again. Well, it turns out that IOS can suffer the same problems.
THE FIX:  FIRST, be sure you have a current iCloud backup of your device.  Connect your iPad to a computer that has a clean fresh copy of IOS 8 on iTunes (this is best done with a computer other than the one that you sync your device to because you DO NOT want to restore it from a back up just yet). Ideally, if you do this at an Apple store you'll be assured of the right version there and someone to answer any questions you might have along the way. You then hold the power and home button down to hard-reset the device and continue to hold them down until it reboots into recovery mode. You then follow the instructions on the computer to reinstall the OS on the device (which wipes everything from it and then reinstalls a clean copy of it). Once this is done (which only takes about 15 minutes), your device will reboot and ask you to set it up. Answer the questions about language, location, etc. and continue until it asks you to log into your iTunes account. Once you do that, it will ask if you want to either 1) Set it up as a new device, 2) Restore from iCloud, or 3) Restore from iTunes. Choose (2), restore from iCloud. This will ensure that it brings down "clean" copies of all of your apps and preferences rather than the potentially corrupted ones that might reside in your iTunes backup. That's it! It will take a few hours depending on how much data and apps you have, but I am happy to report that my iPad 2 is now running IOS 8 and it's running as fast as it ever did when it was brand new!
To sum it up, this process 1) Wipes your device and the garbage causing your problems, 2) Loads a clean and bug-free version of IOS 8 to your device, and 3) restores your apps and data so that it looks just like it did before the wipe, with the exception that it works now!  :-)
Note also that by following this process you don't have to go through the painful and laborious process of reloading all of your apps, data and/or settings. iCloud takes care of all of that for you.

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

    1. How do I disable the "link hover preview bar" and make it appear on the Add-on Bar(the old statusbar replacement)?
    2. How do I remove the X(close button) on the Add-on bar? I don't know if its only me, but something at the back of my head mistakes it for a pop-up or something else that needs to be closed. Very annoying to have to re-enable it every time.
    3. How do I put a "border" around the new Add-on bar so it doesn't look like an extension of the webpage im currently at? The lack of a border might be the reason why I subconsciously think it's a popup. But even so, I still see no reason for the X.
    4. The new colorless buttons/icons makes it easy to miss click (they all look too similar now), can I get them old ones back?
    5. How do I make the Reload button and Stop button stay separate buttons instead of one combined button?
    6. Lastly, I am used to have a button at the right side of the last tab to open a new tab. Now I need to add another button at the top instead. Or can I get the old "open new tab" feature back somehow?
    Thank you for your time.

    <u>'''Question 1'''</u><br />
    Install the '''''Status-4-Evar''''' extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/<br />
    After install,
    #Be sure the Add-on Bar is displayed;
#*click Firefox button, click Add-on Bar to place a check mark
#*if using the Menu Bar, click View > Toolbars, click to check "Add-on Bar"
    #In the Customize Toolbar window
    #*Open Customize Toolbar window
    #**Firefox button > Options > Toolbar Layout
#**if using the Menu Bar, View > Toolbars > Customize
#*drag any or all of the 3 items to the position you want them on the Add-on Bar:
#**'''Status text''' (this will display the website address while loading and "Done" when the page has completed loading in the Add-on Bar instead of as a "tooltip" type display in the lower left corner)
#**'''Download status''' (will display No Downloads or number of downloads in progress)
#**'''Progress meter''' (progress of page loading)
    <u>'''Questions 2 & 3'''</u>
    #Set the options for Status-4-Evar
#*click Firefox button, click Add-ons, click Extensions, scroll down and click Options next to Status-4-Evar
#*if using the Menu bar, click Tools, click Add-ons, click Extensions, scroll down and click Options next to Status-4-Evar
#*In the Options window for Status-4-Evar, click on "Add-on Bar" on the top
#**un-check "Show the close button" to remove the Add-on Bar close (X) button
#**check "Use alternate toolbar borders" to place a 1 pixel border across the top of the Add-on Bar
#***You can also do this with a userChrome.css addition and you can color the Add-on Bar, but it is a bit involved. If you want some basic instructions, post back and I will try to provide the information.
    <u>'''Question 4'''</u>
You can add this Extension to get some color toolbar buttons similar to Firefox 3.6:
    *'''''Firefox 3 Theme for Firefox 4''''': https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/firefox-3-theme-for-firefox/
    <u>'''Question 5'''</u>
#Firefox 4.0 has a '''''combined''''' Go/Reload/Stop button that is positioned at the far right of the location bar.
#*During the page load process it shows as a Stop button and after the loading has finished the button is changed to a Reload button. If you type in the location bar then that button becomes a Go button.
#*You can middle-click that button to duplicate the current tab to a new tab.
#*In Firefox 4.0 you can move the Stop/Reload button out of the location bar and put them wherever you want on the toolbar. You can also make them appear as separate buttons on the toolbar.
#**click Firefox button > Options > Toolbar Layout
#**if using the Menu Bar: click View > Toolbars > Customize
#** Swap the two buttons by dragging them or move them to their previous position at the left of the location bar.
#** If the order is "Reload - Stop" you will get a combined "Reload/Stop" button.
#** Swap the order (by dragging) to "Stop - Reload" or separate them otherwise (like inserting another button or a "Space" or "Separator" between them) to get two distinct buttons.
    <u>'''Question 6'''</u>
There should be a "+" to the right of the last tab by default. If it is not there, open the "Customize Toolbar" window:
*click Firefox button, click Options, click Toolbar Layout
*if using the Menu Bar, click View, click Toolbars, click Cutomize
look for a "New Tab" icon and drag it to the end of the Tab Bar while the Customize Toolbar window is open. You may need to "Restore the default toolbar set". See: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Back%20and%20forward%20or%20other%20toolbar%20items%20are%20missing<br />
What Add-on did you install for the Open New Tab button on the toolbar? Did it disable the "+" on the Tab bar?
