[SOLVED] X eating 60% of the CPU

Hi everyone,
I finished installing Archlinux with the AUR RT kernel, everything works (damn) fine, but X. No matter what I do, or don't, it eats around 60% of the first CPU. I saw some post about it, but the answers to them doesn't change a thing on my setup.
Any help on this one ?
Regards,
Daniel

  • Methods to reduce the CPU Usage for painting the image

    Hi,
    I have developed an application to view images from an IP camera. By this I can simualtaneously view images from about 25 cameras. The problem is that the CPU Usage increases as the no of player increases. My Player is JPanel. which continuously paints the images from camera. The method 'paintImage' is called from another thread's run method. This thread is responsible for taking jpeg images from IP camera.
    Here is the code for this.
    public void paintImage(Image image, int fps) {
    try {
      int width = this.getWidth();
      addToBuffer(image);
      currentImage = image;
      Graphics graphics = this.getGraphics();
      if (isRunning && graphics != null) {
       graphics.drawImage(image, 0, 0, getWidth(), getHeight(), this);
       if(border ==true){
        graphics.setColor(Color.RED);
                          graphics.drawRect(0,0,getWidth()-1, getHeight()-1);
       graphics.setColor(Color.white);
       graphics.setFont(new Font("verdana", Font.ITALIC, 12));
       graphics.drawString("FPS : " + fps, width-60, 13);
       this.fps = fps;
       if (isRandomRecord) {
        graphics.setColor(new Color(0, 255, 0));
        graphics.fillArc((getWidth() - 10), 5, 10, 10, 0, 360);
    } catch (Exception e) {
      e.printStackTrace();
    Can someone please help me to solve this problem so that the CPU usage can be reduced.

    Can you give me more detail information about how to use
    an automated profiling tool You run it and excercise your app. Then it presents stats on number of times each method was called and time spent in each method, plus other stuff. Using those two stats you can zero in on the areas that are most likely to yield resullts.

  • Firefox is eating up between 90% CPU usage to %230 CPU usage, while on a text-only page. I've tried many of the fixits. They didn't work. What can I do?

    I've cleared cookies multiple times
    I've emptied the cache
    I cleared my download history, and a majority of my browsing history
    I've tried having hardware acceleration for both flash and firefox on and off
    I turned off all my apps and plugins and when that did nothing I turned back on the ones I need. I never had a lot of apps to begin with. only a max of 5. I had quite a few plugins, but i disabled all but quicktime, flash, and silverlight. I have those three set on "ask to activate" so none are "always active" anymore.
    I also tried a couple things from the FAQ and forums here about changing a few settings in the "about:config" setup.
    A few of the above things initially worked, but after a day or two it'd be back to sucking up my CPU and memory. I would then try the same thing again, and this second time there would be no improvement.
    The real memory will fluctuate between 200 MB and 1.7 GB, and has done so for quite a while.
    Even after I've left streaming sites, and sites with lots of images, and I'm not downloading anything, the memory and the CPU will still do that. I only have a handful of tabs open at a timeusually, and all of them are mostly text. I'll quit and reopen firefox, which will initially bring the memory and CPU usage down, but it inevitably climbs up quite quickly, regardless of my tab usage. It'll be the same if I'm playing a flash game or scrolling through blogs.
    I never had any of these problems with Firefox 23, and my internet usage habits haven't changed at all. I had some of this slowness a few times with version 24, but nowhere near as bad as this, or as constant. Almost everyday I end up googling for other ways to speed things up. Everything I do never slowed down Firefox on earlier versions.
    I've tried all my usual tasks on Safari which will never climb above 30-40 MB of memory, even on netflix streaming, or flash games, and the CPU will average around 8 and 11%.

    i'm also having major CPU problems w/ FF 29.0.1. when i restart the app it calms down again but after loading tabs it steadily climbs up to 100% after not too long. i have checked out the 2 CPU links/articles above and do all the basic troubleshooting and tips, but with all the FF tools & add-ons isn't there some sort of CPU monitor that has the ability to display which extensions/scripts are hogging the CPU? Activity Monitor on Mac just shows the total used by the app. it's impossible in my case to efficiently disable dozens of add-ons & scripts, restart, and test each one by one b/c it can take several hrs before the CPU starts to spike high again. i have no time for this.
    thanks

  • Safari eating the CPU and making fans race

    Hi, having read some good posts on this forum re fans being continually on I opened activity monitor and found that Safari was using 90% of the CPU, so I quit it and relaunched and now the fans are barely audible.
    Just wondering why Safari was the culprit in this instance when so many posts pointed to erroneous print processes and widgets?
    cheers
    Simon

    I encountered this before using Safari 3.0. In other message boards a lot of people have been complaining about it as well.
    It seems that in my case the problem is triggered when I visit sites that have Flash content in them. In those cases, I already left the page that has the animated content but Safari maintained its high CPU usage.
    After doing the update to 3.1.1, the problem was gone with my MacBook.

  • Plugin container is eating 90 percent of cpu

    plugin-container is eating 90 percent of cpu when we usually look videos in youtube. Earlier this was not happening. It started in last two days. Kindly request you to solve this problem
    == This happened ==
    Not sure how often
    == running flash movies

    My computer nearly stops since updating Firefox (and gaining this Plugin-container.exe abomination). Come on Firefox, I have changed from IE because it is rubbish don't make me think the same about you.

  • [Solved] systemd-journald periodically uses 50% CPU

    Hello!
    I run KDE 4.11 on Arch fully upgraded. Since shortly my system seems to choke periodically at the systemd-journald process. It takes 50% of the CPU power available and everything else is starting to studder and freeze. using jounalctl only shows normal log entries and not (like suggested somewhere else) a huge amount of error entries within seconds.
    I have tried to remedy this:
    - I disabled cups as mentioned somewhere else
    - I deleted all configuration files concerning alsa and pulseaudio (cause I found errors with journalctl) and reinstalled both
    - I set /var/log/journal to "copy on write" because it is on a btrfs partition (another suggestion in a thread)
    - I tried to somehow to disable systemd-journald (seems this is not possible)
    Nothing seems to solve the problem - still my the systemd-journald process peaks to 50% CPU every few minutes and stays at this ressource eating level for a few minutes. Then it drops down to normal again using only minimal ressources for a few minutes ...
    I am lost here. My system is really quite unusable though it is a fresh install from only two weeks ago. I only noticed this behaviour three days ago - afterwards I upgraded to kernel 3.10.9 but this hasn't changed anything either.
    Any ideas anyone?

    Hi jrusell!
    Well I think I could solve it ... here is what I did:
    - I deleted /var/log/journal
    - rebooted and looked at the fresh log via journalctl: now it generated fresh entries again and there it was: (like in similar problems) the log has been flushed with hundreds fo fail messages! ... something like a "user burst limit exceeded" for rtkit and I found a problem with nepomukindexer (should have guessed it's KDE again - after the update to 4.11)
    - so I stopped all nepomuk stuff and deleted ~/.kde4/share/apps/nepomuk, then let nepomuk trun again recreating the whole indexing database in the process (to be honest it's still in the process but ressources aren't used excessively)
    Since then there hasn't been any problem with the journald process yet ... :-)
    thx everybody for reading,
    p.

  • Itunes Using like 90% of the CPU

    When importing songs from CD, I am noticing that I am no longer able to listen to songs while importing without very choppy audio. Also, though I have a 3 Ghz processor, Itunes is using like 70-90% of the CPU when importing CDs. This has never happened before, with previous versions of ITunes. It started happening right after an install of ITunes 6. I had previously had five and four, which both worked fine. Here's what CD Diagnostics had to say:
    Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
    GATEWAY 831GM
    iTunes 6.0.1.3
    CD Driver 2.0.4.3
    CD Driver DLL 2.0.3.2
    LowerFilters: Cdr4_xp (7.1.0.188), PxHelp20 (2.0.0.0),
    UpperFilters: Cdralw2k (7.1.0.188), GEARAspiWDM (2.0.4.3),
    Video Driver: Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family\Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Controller
    Found aspi32 running.
    Any Ideas as to what the Problem could be?
    Peace,
    MDMc.

    Well, I've discovered the Secret to Importing Using ITunes for Windows!
    You just use media player to import, and then add that folder to your library!
    No, seriously though, this is a real problem. I've tried everything from using only one of the CPUs, to actually disabling HyperThreading in the BIOS, to setting the priority to low, to RealTime, etc.
    I did find out that there was a driver update to the M-Audio Hardware I was using, and was hoping that would solve the issue, as someone had suggested, but no avail.
    Like I said, it occurred right after I upgraded to ITunes 6, and I had had no problems like this with four or five.
    I followed the windows help file, I followed the Apple Help files on a few issues, and none of them solved the problem. Someone please let me know if an update becomes available.
    Peace,
    Matthew.

  • P45D3 Platinum - DLed is full red but the CPU is OK

    Hello,
    After I organized the cables inside my PC case the MB (P45D3 Platinum) could not start. The D-Led was red completely and did not change even after some restart, reset or power cycle. All other blue leds lit.
    I performed CMOS reset but did not work. I minimized the config to PS, MB, CPU, 1xRAM, VGA and freed up all the cables but the problem remained. I tried both the RAMs separately I have - no change.
    Then I tried the CPU and the VGA in my son's computer and found them OK. But I could not try the RAMS as I have DDR3 and his PC supports only DDR2. This is the current status.
    Can anyone advice something to find the cause and solve this problem?
    Thank you in advance.

    I already assembled carefully my PCs components on the tabletop and checked its functionality - as I wrote in my previous mial. Quote from: BigRega on 12-November-09, 02:46:27
    Then I disassembled my PC and built the minimum config on desk but no change after power on.
    Still no success.
    I believe that only one rail can be enough for the MB and the CPU (12V x 15A = 180W by the first 12V rail) as the CPU (E8400) is a 65W model.
    The VGA needs 2 x 75W = 150W (by the second 12V rail) from the PSU. The fans require 4 x 8W = 32W, the HDDs & DVD R/W 4 x 10W = 40W (72W by the third rail).
    The total required power is 402 W. I do not believe this power is provided by only the 12V rails but the +5V & +3.3V (141W) rail and by the other ones (9.6W +17.5W).
    Do you agree with this calculation?
    Another thing: why this config worked for 2 months properly if the PSU is not enough?  :smiley:
    And I would still like to known what is the led3 for? Is it an error signal if this led lits red?
    Thanks for your answer in advance.

  • Has anyone experienced PluginContainer*32 and FlashplayerPlugin 12-0-0-70*32 taking over 60% of the CPU after 2 minutes playing some youtube videos.

    I have a 64 bit pc but Flash player and plugin container seem to be 32 bit. Is this relevant ?
    The CPU goes up to 60% for just these two processes within about 3 minutes of streaming some videos. The system effectively dies until I end one of the processes with task manager.
    An example of a video which displays this issue is http://www.techmoan.com/blog/2013/8/31/the-mini-0801-tiny-1080p-gps-car-camera-with-an-lcd-screen.html
    Firefox plays the BBC Iplayer videos with no problems but files like the Techmoan above make the CPU go wild and stop the PC within about 3 minutes.
    Opera 20 plays the Techmoan video all the way through with no problems.
    This points to the problem being in Firefox.
    I think that I have the latest Adobe Flash player and the latest Firefox.

    Hey,
    Please try to disable hardware acceleration.Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See [[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems|this article]] for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).
    To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:
    #Go to this [http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues Adobe Flash Player Help page].
    #Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
    #Click on '''Settings''' in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
    # Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel. <br/> <br/>[[Image:fpSettings1.PNG]] <br/>
    # Remove the check mark from '''Enable hardware acceleration'''.
    # Click '''Close''' to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
    # Restart Firefox.
    This [http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/help01.html Flash Player Help - Display Settings page] has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.

  • New bios for T420 Updated the CPU microcode

    Hi,
    Bios 1.46
    (New) Updated the CPU microcode.
    (Fix) Corrected the help message for enabling the microphone in the BIOS Setup.
    The CPU microcode update: It will support Ivy Bridge?
    Thanks
    Solved!

    Ivy and Sandy are compatible? I don't think so...
    Maybe they just increased or blocked the amount of allowed CPU models.
    I guess Mark has to step in and explain

  • Safari takes up all the cpu..why?????

    I'v got like 10 tabs open in my safari and it takes up about 98% of my cpu so the battery gets really hot. Even if I cut it down to 2 tabs it will still require almost all of cpu...
    could anyone help me to solve this problem?
    thanks alot!

    Not to be argumentative but just because it's well-known that Safari likes to hog the cpu doesn't mean that it's not a problem to be solved. I can solve the problem by NOT using Safari, but I'd prefer to use it because I like Safari better than the alternatives except for the problem with cpu usage.
    This is a problem that needs to be fixed. I've tried lots of great suggestions that I've read about in this forum, but none of them have a lasting effect. The best that I can come up with is to restart Safari every once in a while -- not a solution, but it allows me to use the app for some time before it starts to hog the cpu again.
