[SOLVED] xfce4 wine menu

Is there a way I can have a category called Wine on my xfce menu bar that holds all the wine applications i have installed?

  • Restoring wine menu in KDE [SOLVED]

    Hi, i'm using KDE 4.4.1 and wine. Before i decided to clean up mess in KDE menu, all wine installed menu items were under "lost and found"
    As http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Win … Fix.5B1.5D states, i have edited /etc/xdg/menus/kde-applications.menu
    Now i had Wine menu, but i didn't need all items, so i ran kde menu editor, and some items were removed. After relogin, wine menu didn't have "Programs" submenu at all :s. I deleted wine menu from KDE menu
    Now, hot to restore that?
    I figure out that all desktop files created by wine are in /home/bagheera/.local/share/applications/
    In /home/bagheera/.config/menus/ i have several files:
    -rw-r--r-- 1 bagheera users 15647 03-15 12:22 applications-kmenuedit.menu
    -rw-r--r-- 1 bagheera 1000 3527 03-15 13:11 applications.menu
    -rw-r--r-- 1 bagheera users 3527 03-15 13:11 applications.menu~
    -rw-r--r-- 1 bagheera 1000 2349 2008-12-09 applications.menu.undo-10
    -rw-r--r-- 1 bagheera 1000 2418 2008-12-09 applications.menu.undo-11
    -rw-r--r-- 1 bagheera 1000 2492 2008-12-09 applications.menu.undo-12

    -rw-r--r-- 1 bagheera 1000 3358 2009-01-21 applications.menu.undo-15
    -rw-r--r-- 1 bagheera 1000 3373 2009-01-21 applications.menu.undo-16
    drwxr-xr-x 2 bagheera 1000 28672 03-15 12:35 applications-merged
    drwxr-xr-x 2 bagheera 1000 4096 2009-01-20 kde4-applications-merged
    drwxr-xr-x 2 bagheera 1000 4096 03-15 12:43 kde-applications-merged
    -rw-r--r-- 1 bagheera 1000 345 2009-03-20 settings.menu
    Do i need "undo" file, can they be safely removed?
    Witch file contains "wine menu"?

  • How To Edit Parts of XFCE4 Desktop Menu

    I am running Arch 0.7.1 with XFCE4.2. As I have been adding applications with Pacman, some items have started to show up on the XFCE4 desktop menu, but some have not. For example, a Multimedia category has shown up, but xcdroast and xzgv didn't get added.
    No problems I thought, I'll just edit the menu. So I went to the desktop Settings tool, Desktop, Menu, Edit Desktop Menu, and to my surprise, no Multimedia heading shows up. None of the rest of the newly added ones do either - Office, Graphics, Network, etc. Since the headings don't even show up, I can't add things to them. When I check the menu.xml file in my ~/.config/xfce4 directory tree, these headings aren't there either, and yet they definitely ARE there when I click the menu.
    I am stumped! I have checked the Wiki, searched the forums, and spent a bunch of time to no avail. Can anyone tell me why I can't see and edit these things? Thanks!

    OK, solved my own problem - I should have held off posting for a little bit longer. In your ~/.config/xfce4/desktop, there is a file called menu.xml. As I mentioned in my original post, the menus for Multimedia, Network, etc. aren't there. When I went back and carefully examined that file again though, and actually READ all the comments in it, I see that XFCE4 autogenerates a set of menus based on ...  well, I am not sure what it is based on, since some things show up and some don't.
    However, by simply doing as the comments say, and commenting out the line that does this, I can now add all of these items menus and items in manually, and thus get control over what is in the menus and what is not. Once it is commented out, you can use the GUI desktop menu editor to do the grunt work, so at least it is not too painful.

  • Can't find the wine menu anymore :(

    Hi,
    I've been playing around with my Wine menu, and somehow managed it, to remove it. Unfortunately I can't get it back again now .
    Beforehand every windows setup that has installed start menu entries has created its entried in the "Applications -> Wine" menu, but now this menu is gone.
    Although the applications still create .desktop files in "/home/johnpatcher/.local/share/applications/wine/", they aren't shown in my "Applications" menu anymore. How can I fix this?
    Best regards
    johnpatcher

    Could fix the problem by removing wine completly (according to this guide) and re-installing it. This way I have to re-install all of my applications, but that is probably faster than struggling around with my applications.menu. I guess alacarte sucks a little bit, when it comes down to manually change the menu file(s) afterwards.

  • [Openbox] Wine menu in Openbox menu?

    Is there a way to get the wine menu in openbox? I mean in gnome its in Applications>Wine and it has all the configure, wine uninstall wine software etc etc and it also automatically updates when new software is installed. Is it possible to have something like that in openbox?

    You could try making your own Wine menu in Openbox through Obmenu or by directly modifying the ~/.config/openbox/menu.xml

  • Can't get Wine menu in KDE tried editting menu

    I'm a new Arch User. I followed a YouTube video to get me started and I read the beginners wiki afterwards. I've been using Ubuntu based distros for 1 1/2 - 2 years. I'm loving arch linux since it is very light and I've been able to get most of my packages from either the AUR or the official repos.
    Info:
    ArchLinux x86_64 Kernel 3.6.3-1-ARCH
    QUESTION:
    I installed wine like this
    sudo pacman -S wine winetricks wine_gecko
    I noticed when I opened the KDE menu, no Wine menu was in Applications like in Ubuntu. ?
    I tried following https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wi … Fix.5B1.5D
    But it did not work.
    Can someone help? Thanks

  • [SOLVED] Running wine prog from Openbox menu

    Hello everyone. I was wondering if there's a way to run a program installed through wine from the openbox menu? The problem I'm having is that you have to be in the directory with the .exe in order to run it properly. I can run it fine from the terminal but not openbox.
    I've tried the suggestions here: http://crunchbang.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=24893
    Any ideas?
    Last edited by Somnus (2013-12-28 01:37:39)

    Probably the best formal way to do this is by creating a .desktop file for your Wine application and putting it in the ~/.local/share/applications directory.
    In this file you would specify a Path key to change to the .exe directory, and then the Exec key to run: wine /path/name.exe etc
    In the Openbox menu you'd then make an entry which runs a command - like xdg-open - which can launch the .desktop file.
    (My own launcher fyr can do this, for example, but there are others.)
    Using .desktop files is the "modern" way to launch applications!

  • [SOLVED] Existing GRUB Win menu entries don't appear

    Hi,
    Just finished a fresh dual boot (Arch-64/Win7-64), dual HDs installation.
    I've installed os-prober prior to installing grub, and indeed a (seemingly) correct menu entry was added (in segment 30-see below).
    Yet after reboot, this entry does NOT appear!
    I've tried adding a respective entry in the 40-custom, (and ran ' grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg' afterwards), yet still the same (menu entry appears in grub.cfg yet does NOT appear after reboot!).
    Please advise!
    Thanks!

  • [SOLVED] Installed Win 7, now Arch won't boot

    Edit: To save anyone reading this all the way, the problem turned out to be a badly edited fstab. Sigh.
    PROBLEM:
    Grub loads, then loads the kernel, but the boot hangs a few seconds later with no real error messages.
    BACKGROUND:
    1) I needed to boot a native Windows 7 partition on my 128GB laptop SSD.
    2) So, I used gparted in an Ubuntu Live USB to resize my existing Arch partition and create an NTFS partition for Win 7:
    sda > sda1=Arch > sda2=ntfs > sda3=linux swap
    Arch still booted fine after this (sda1).
    3) I then installed windows 7 (BIOS install) onto the second partition (sda2). I don't know where or if it puts some system reserved partition - but I can't see anything in gparted.
    4) chrooted from an Arch Live USB, reinstalled GRUB, including mkconfig step
    5) *If* I recall, Arch then booted OK.
    6)  Booted into Windows and applied all updates, set windows to use UTC clock and updated my laptops BIOS. Reboot.
    7) Win 7 boots fine from the grub menu from (hd0,2)
    8) Arch starts booting, loads the kernel, then hangs after the kernel has loaded, but before gdm appears. With the following on screen:
    [2.104597] INFO @wl_cfg80211_attach : Registered CFG80211 phy
    I have tried chrooting and reinstalling linux and linux-headers and grub. But so far to no avail.
    [SOLVED with face palm]
    I installed syslinux using chroot, as it displays more startup messages. The boot was hanging at [a disk task is starting] or words to that effect. It was my USB stick, which I'd foolishly added to fstab with the "auto" option. Editing that out of fstab - and it's all good.
    I'll leave this here in case anyone else does something this dumb.

    Is LVM handled automatically by systemd? The reason I ask is because I have the USELVM= set to YES in rc.conf.
    I made the permanent transition to systemd and did not start alsa at all - sound works fine - so I never bothered with the alsa-store/alsa-restore service files at all - it just works! Also dbus gets handled by default in systemd so you don't need any starting of dbus service at all... it just works.

  • [SOLVED] XFCE customize menu help: applications and directory menu

    I've been trying to make some progress with customizing XFCE menus. There are two menus I'm trying to create, listed below.
    Yes, i have read http://wiki.xfce.org/howto/customize-menu
    No, I'm not saying I understood all of it.
    1. I want to have a custom Applications menu that lists all installed applications, without categorization. Preferably alphabetical. I'm guessing it has a lot to do with adding a lot of <include> directives.

    2. I want to make a different Directory menu, possibly by implicating a custom Applications menu. If I could locate the .menu file for the Directory menu panel item, I would like to make minor adjustments to the menu, and invoke it through the Applications menu panel item.
    I should state that what I'm trying to accomplish is
    a) to remove the submenu-like options with the Directory menu (open Folder, open in Terminal) to have one-click to open the folder directory
    b) to add a label next to the panel icon (aesthetics), which would be accomplished through using the Applications menu panel item.
    Edit: clarity

    Firstly, I'll tackle menu 1.
    No need to create an include line for every .desktop file. Do the following:
    $ mkdir ~/.config/menus
    $ cd ~/.config/menus
    $ touch custom-apps.menu
    Edit the file we have just created and populate it with the following:
    <!DOCTYPE Menu PUBLIC "-//freedesktop//DTD Menu 1.0//EN"
    "http://www.freedesktop.org/standards/menu-spec/1.0/menu.dtd">
    <Menu>
    <Name>Applications</Name>
    <DefaultAppDirs/>
    <DefaultDirectoryDirs/>
    <DefaultMergeDirs/>
    <Include>
    <Category>X-Xfce-Toplevel</Category>
    <Category>Settings</Category>
    <Category>Accessibility</Category>
    <Category>Core</Category>
    <Category>Legacy</Category>
    <Category>Utility</Category>
    <Category>Development</Category>
    <Category>Education</Category>
    <Category>Game</Category>
    <Category>Graphics</Category>
    <Category>Audio</Category>
    <Category>Video</Category>
    <Category>AudioVideo</Category>
    <Category>Network</Category>
    <Category>Office</Category>
    <Category>System</Category>
    </Include>
    <Layout>
    <Merge type="all"/>
    </Layout>
    </Menu>
    Now just create an application menu panel item and point it to the custom menu file we just created.
    This will display every application installed on your system, and any custom .desktop entries you may create (as long as they are set in one of the categories in the menu file). Add or remove categories as you need.
    If you want to have the "Run Program" and other "Action" items that are in the default Xfce menu, add a category line for "X-Xfce-Toplevel"
    Alternatively, you can forego all the <Category></Category> lines and simply use <All/>
    [EDIT] and since this is using garcon (Xfce's menu library), the apps will be in alphabetical order [/EDIT]
    Cheers.

  • [SOLVED]Remap my menu key in Xorg

    Hi, everyone!
    I have a menu key of no use on my keyboard, and I want to use it. So I decide to remap it. I want to do this mapping:
    menu + 1 => F1
    menu + 2 => F2
    menu + 3 => F3
    menu + 4 => F4
    menu + 5 => F5
    menu + 6 => F6
    menu + 7 => F7
    menu + 8 => F8
    menu + 9 => F9
    menu + 0 => F10
    menu + - => F11
    menu + + => F12
    menu + w => ArrowUp
    menu + d => ArrowDown
    menu + a => ArrowLeft
    menu + d => ArrowRight
    menu + j => PageDown
    menu + k => PageUp
    menu + m => End
    menu + , => Home
    This means if I press menu key and 1 at once, it equals to F1. It seems that Xmodmap can't be suitable because it can't map combination keys. Do you have any idea of the way to do it?
    Thank you.

    Hi, I made some progress, the problem is partly solved.
    In ~/.Xmodmap:
    xmodmap -e "add mod3 = Menu"
    In ~/.config/sxhkd/sxhkdrc:
    # don't take action if I press Menu
    Menu
    true
    mod3 + 1
    xdotool key --clearmodifiers F1
    mod3 + 2
    xdotool key --clearmodifiers F2
    mod3 + 3
    xdotool key --clearmodifiers F3
    mod3 + 4
    xdotool key --clearmodifiers F4
    mod3 + 5
    xdotool key --clearmodifiers F5
    mod3 + 6
    xdotool key --clearmodifiers F6
    mod3 + 7
    xdotool key --clearmodifiers F7
    mod3 + 8
    xdotool key --clearmodifiers F8
    mod3 + 9
    xdotool key --clearmodifiers F9
    mod3 + 0
    xdotool key --clearmodifiers F10
    mod3 + minus
    xdotool key --clearmodifiers F11
    mod3 + equal
    xdotool key --clearmodifiers F12
    mod3 + w
    xdotool key --clearmodifiers Up
    mod3 + s
    xdotool key --clearmodifiers Down
    mod3 + a
    xdotool key --clearmodifiers Left
    mod3 + d
    xdotool key --clearmodifiers Right
    mod3 + j
    xdotool key --clearmodifiers Page_Down
    mod3 + k
    xdotool key --clearmodifiers Page_Up
    mod3 + m
    xdotool key --clearmodifiers End
    mod3 + comma
    xdotool key --clearmodifiers Home
    And run sxhkd(it's in AUR), see it's working.
    Note some part also need fixing.
    Greatly thanks for WonderWoofy, Trilby and 2ManyDogs.
    EDIT: Now it is completely solved.

  • [solved] SWTOR wine doesn't launch

    So, I've been trying to get swtor to launch, but I'm quite unsuccesful...
    The game doesn't start after I click "Play" in the launcher (after installing any updates and patches)
    What have I tried?
    1) Native wine plus the Method described here as "updated instructions" in the comments: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p … &iId=27088
    2) Playonlinux with special patched wine
    It doesn't work both times, with the following output (method 1):

    I'm guessing the last to errors are the cause, but I have no Idea how to get rid of them. Anybody have an Idea or also has the same problem?

    Nope, but it appears that SWTOR just has HUGE amounts of loading time. After waking up this morning it actually got to the loading screen! (somewhrer up to 4 hours!)
    So it seems I was just to impatient, but now I can't get past the loading screen. There is a blue loading cog that keeps on turning, but nothing happens. (I'm guessing after 4 hours of waiting, nothing else will happen). Trying a few things about that now, I think I know why that error happens, and I hope the loading time can be cut down somehow
    It appears the game requires 1-4 hours to load, I'll check that when I have the time.
    As comparison for others, here are my specs:
    Intell i5 2.2 Ghz
    4GB Ram
    Intel HD 4000
    I've my idea doesn't work I'll try wine-stable, if it works, I'll change the thread to solved

  • [Solved] xfce4+compiz: conky can only been seen if I miminzed windows?

    I have xfce4 and compiz-xfce4 installed with my Arch Linux?
    I added conky in my auto start-up setting. It turns out conky can only be seen if I minimize all windows.
    When I clicked the "show desktop" button in my xfce4-pannel, conky just cannot show up.
    Thanks,

    It turns out I have to uncheck the "Hide Skip Taskbar Windows" option under  "General Options"  in Compiz configuration settings manager.

  • [solved] Xfce4 unwanted autostarting programs

    I have developed a small irritation with what i believe to be Xfce4. Upon every reboot (or cold start) of my machine. When i log into Xfce4, Chromium and a Terminal window both autostart. Chromium starts minimised and the terminal starts visable in the centre of my screen. Some information that may be relevant: Xfce 4.10, Xfwm4, Kernel 3.8.11-1-ARCH, SLiM, Xorg server 1.14.1.
    I am not aware of making any changes this problem appeared out of the blue. I have checked the Session and Startup settings and the only autostart programs enabled are Power Manager and Xfsettingsd. I have checked in .config/xfce4 for an autostart folder and there isnt one. There is nothing in .xinitrc
    Any help on this would be great thank you.

    Krarl wrote:Try enabling "Automatically save session on logout" in session and startup and then close all windows. Restart xfce. Hopefully this should clear the saved session, and now you can disable it again.
    I feel like such an idiot, I was looking for the most complex solution and forgot about the most obvious. This has solved the problem, thanks Krarl

    I had checked this already and the folder was empty.

  • [SOLVED]xfce4-topmenu-plugin-git, nothing happens except with firefox

    Hello guys,
    I just installed xfce4-topmenu-plugin-git from the AUR, and also other topmenu utilities (optional dependencies) :
    pacman -Qs topmenu
    local/topmenu-gtk-git 2015.03.22-1
    A standalone global menu bar for Gtk+ 2.0 based desktop environments.
    local/topmenu-gtk3-git 2015.03.22-1
    A standalone global menu bar for Gtk+ 2.0 based desktop environments.
    local/topmenu-mozilla-git 2015.01.21-2
    Firefox/Thunderbird Javascript module for TopMenu.
    local/xfce4-topmenu-plugin-git 2015.03.22-1
    A standalone global menu bar for Gtk+ 2.0 based desktop environments.
    I added the plugin to my xfce panel, and after reboot :
    - when I launch any application nothing happens in the panel
    - when I launch firefox, it works : the firefox menu appears on the xfce panel plugin
    I'm not shure this is the right place to ask, but at least, is there somebody here with the same problem?
    Is somebody getting the plugin to work? (just to know if this is a global or particular issue...)
    Thanks!
    ps : I'm up to date (xfce4.12 etc...)

    Solution by the maintener of the package :
    You need to ensure the Gtk+ module topmenu-gtk-moduleis loaded. A simple way to do this is to create a .gtkrc-2.0 file in your $HOME with the following contents:
    gtk-modules = "canberra-gtk-module:topmenu-gtk-module"
    or put GTK_MODULES="topmenu-gtk-module:canberra-gtk-module" in your ~/.xprofile or ~/.xinitrc .
    It worked for me
    (But not with libreoffice)
