the other divs. FOr some reason in the following browsers/os it is

Try to restore them with this extension:
*CheckPlaces: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/checkplaces/
If that didn't help then it is possible that there is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Bookmarks_history_and_toolbar_buttons_not_working_-_Firefox
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Bookmarks+not+saved#w_places-database-file
You need to use CheckPlaces another time after having deleted the places files.

  • DW designed site, some browsers are dropping images and doing other wonky things, suggestions?

    Hello, we have a small website and on the contact page there are hyperlinked images for facebook and linkedin. On some browsers or computers the images and links are being dropped entirely, including my own when I run Firefox but shows up fine in IE. On one computer instead of left aligning it was center aligned. Here is the page in question:
    Vote Russ Tierney for State Representative
    (Aside from the CSS doing away with tables which is a subject I still need to read up on) is there anything bad about that particular segment of html:
    <tr>
       <td colspan="2">Find me on:<br /><a href="https://www.facebook.com/voterusstierney"><img src="images/Facebook.png"  alt="Facebook" width="47"/></a> <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/pub/russ-tierney/34/49/920"><img src="images/LinkedIN.png" alt="Linkedin"/></a></td>
       </tr>
    Suggestions?

    Aaron Hartley wrote:

    Possibly.
    Servers are case sensitive, so a link to images/LinkedIN.png will not be directed to a file called linkedin.png on the server. Your local OS won't have an issue with it, but the server generally will view that as a separate file from the mixed case version.
    You may want to go through and normalize your file names from within DW's Files window and keep them all as lower case alpha-numeric names. Don't use special characters or spaces in the names either. Instead of spaces, use underscores or hyphens. When you change the names from within the Files window, DW will update all of your links for you.
    Since you're seeing issues in some but not all browsers, I'm guessing the above probably isn't the problem (still worth mentioning though). It almost sounds to me like you are caching older versions in some of those browsers. Try clearing the browser cache to see if that clears up the issue.
    Also, run your pages through the validator at http://validator.w3.org to get a list of html errors in your page. HTML errors can cause all kinds of funky behavior between browsers/versions. If it's still happening once you have your code cleaned up, post back and we can take a closer look.

  • Weird problem with some browsers showing content that is meant to be "off screen"

    So as you might guess from the title of the post, I'm new to both Catalyst, and HTML, and publishing websites in general.
    I created a website in Catalyst using a 1000x700 Photoshop design. I made it so that the transition from page to page occurs with the screen elements moving in from the sides with an elastic effect. I published the site for uploading to the web, then brought the file into Dreamweaver to simply put it on a black background, and save it as index.html. for uploading to my service provider.
    Everything is working fine from a transition perspective, and from my testing in Internet Explorer 7 and 8 as well as Firefox, it seems to be fine. However, one person I work with - who is also running Internet Explorer 8 - finds that when she views it, there is a small white strip along the right side and the bottom of the displayed .swf. In this right strip, on several of the pages, she can see part of the elements off to the side that would normally be sitting out of view on the artboard: In other words, elements that were animated out of the way when she linked to current page.
    I thought I was being clever by following advice posted elsewhere here, and created - or tried to create - a pseudo clipping mask by dragging a 1000x700 rectangle around each screen, converting it to a custom component, editing it by deselecting Modify > Auto Size content, and selecting Modify > Clip to Component Bounds, and republishing. No dice.
    I know I could just go in and move those elements further away from the "stage" so that they wouldn't appear in this weird white strip, but I'd still be left with the strip. At this point, I've made so many changes in Catalyst I'd also really like to avoid bringing it back into Photoshop to make any changes. I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this, and if so, how was it rectified. Perhaps there's a way to provide something like a clipping mask in Dreamweaver? Any help would be appreciated.

    Sounds like they need to update their browsers and players, or download different ones that they're missing.
    There is no way to ensure anyone's computer will play an .MP3 the way you want it to. There are a number of programs out there that play .MP3s and will be set as the viewer's default player for that file type simply depending on which ones were installed and which ones they allow to set to handle .MP3s.
    The second part, where they ask if you could make it so viewers could click on a player...
    You could have multiple file types (a .mov for Quicktime, a .WMV for windows media, etc) where the user clicks whichever player they want and the link goes to it's corresponding file type. That's probably the easiest way to achieve that type of functionality.

  • Why do some events show date and time in ical?

    Some events show the date and time, others show only the time. I cannot find a setting in preferences to have it be one way or another. I do enter events both on the computer and also my iphone 4s, but that doesn't seem to be the difference.

    Answers in this forum have shown different things have worked for different people.
    For some clearing YouTube cookies and the cache solved the problem. For details of how to do that see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Deleting+cookies and https://support.mozilla.com/kb/How+to+clear+the+cache
    Others had to go a step further after deleting YouTube cookies and block YouTube from saving cookies. In the Tools menu select Options to open the Options window. Go to the Privacy panel and make sure it is set to "Use custom setting for history". Click the Exceptions button, type in http://www.youtube.com and click on Block
    Another option is to disable hardware acceleration for Flash. To do that right-click on a Flash video, select Settings, go to the first tab of the settings for the option to enable/disable hardware acceleration for Flash. This is something recommended by YouTube for those having problems - http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?&answer=1209379

    Hello,  I have songs that show they are "Waiting" for download from the cloud but they are greyed out.  Some songs in one album are done others in the same album will not download. It is not a time function because i have been working on this for weeks. I have allowed my compter to run for days and the songs are still not accessible.  I have a Match subscription and Match is working.  If I click on the "Genre" link the greyed out songs show that they are ready for download from the cloud but I cannot download them.  I have downloaded over 1500 other songs, so I am trying to understand what is going on here. I would appreciate any help anyone can give me.
    Thanks

    I did think about that and if I have to I will do that, however there are about 50 songs. I have closed and reopened iTunes several times and I am sure that I have the latest version. It fails right away but I can click on the cloud download icon and download the song that it failed on ... therefore it is not that song "or any one song" causing the issue. Any ideas?

  • I've read two solutions to my problem and neither worked. I can't get the repeat option to show in some events, though it does appear in others.

    I can't get the "repeat" option to show in some events, though it does appear in others. How can i get it to show when I need it? (I read two "soluntions" that supposedly worked, but neither worked for me.)

    Greetings,
    I can't say I've seen that behavior before.  I' be curious to see a screen shot of it in the edit mode where you edit the fields.
    Beyond that I'll offer generic troubleshooting steps:
    Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Language & Text > Formats > Region. Region should be set to the country of your choice. Do not have it set to "Custom" as this can have unexpected results in the iCal window.
    If that doesn't resolve the issue:
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
    Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
    --- NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion: Click anywhere on the desktop and then click on the "Go" menu at the top of the computer screen while holding down the "option" key on the keyboard.  You will see "Library" in the menu.
    4. Launch iCal and test.
    If the issue persists:
    1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
    Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
    Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
    --- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.
    Hope that helps!

    Try deleting the photo cache from your computer and then re-try the photo sync and see if they then copy over - the location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314

  • Navigation & Photo Page not displaying within some browsers

    Hello,
    I am using iWeb '08 and am having great difficulties trying to get my site cross browser compatible. The site is working perfectly on the Mac in Firefox 2 & Safari but not Firefox 3. It is also not displaying correctly in Firefox 2.0.0.13 and IE7 on my WinXP machine. Unfortunately the error is not just a cosmetic issue. The Main Navigation is not displaying on any page and only shows a bullet point where it is meant to be. The other error occurs in the Photo Template and the photos are not displaying. I am using a "Version 1 template" and did a test with a "version 2" template that provided the same errors.
    Has anyone else had these problems???

    You have applied a height of "auto"to your menubar container, which gives it no height at all in some browsers. If you have a clue what height you would like to display for your menubar, give it, instead of:
        <div style="height: auto;" id="p7PMM_1" class="p7PMMh04">
    Better yet, leave it in the CSS file, where you will find it when you go looking for it. You already assign a height there:
    .p7PMMh04 {
        width: auto;
        height: 20px;
        margin: 0 auto;
        font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
        font-size: 11px;
        font-weight: bold;
        background-image: url(http://home.roadrunner.com/~jgigandet/trinity/img/new_bk.gif);
        background-repeat: repeat-x;
        background-color: #000;
        text-align: left;
        line-height: normal;
    Because your inline style of height:auto; has more proximity (is closer) to the element being styled, it overrides the style in the stylesheet and applies the height: auto; instead of allowing the height: 20px;

    I develop my pages in Front Page and I know that the music only works in IE, so if someone can tell me how to correct this problem as it is important as I use fire fox as my main browser.
    I thank you in advance

    If a website uses BGSOUND then it will only work in IE.
    BGSOUND is not compatible with other browsers like Firefox.

  • Problems with instant play in some browsers

    This is not a problem with how Safari works, but I thought someone here might help me with a frustrating problem for which I can find no solution.
    I created several web pages with embedded QuickTime movies in mp4 format.  They are constructed so that the movies begin instantly to play as soon as the pages are accessed.  This has worked for the past couple of years regardless of which browser was used ( Mac versions of Safari, Firefox versions <4.x, Sunrise and others;  Windows versions of Internet Explorer and Firefox).
    It has recently been brought to my attention that this functionality is broken when updating to Firefox 4.x for Mac or when using Chrome for Mac.  Using either of these browsers to access the pages results in a static page with no video play.  The user must wait 1-2 minutes for the video to completely download and then it will automatically play.   Since the movies play fine on multiple browsers, including the new Firefox 4.x for Windows, it seems to me that the problem is not in how the movies were coded but rather in how the browsers handle the html code for the pages.
    The movies were edited in FCP, exported to Compressor, processed as mp4 streaming video and then embedded in web pages using Freeway Pro software with the "auto play" option enabled.
    Any ideas will be appreciated.

    Here's the response I got from Freeway Pro support:
    Hi John
    There seems to be an issue at the moment with the way that Firefox 4 (and to a certain extent Chrome) handles QuickTime movies. If you go to the test page on our site at <http://users.softpress.com/keith/firefox4test/> you'll see that it is very erratic in what it shows and how it plays - but note that you may need to wait a while in between clicking on Firefox 4's Refresh button to see that the results change from one refresh to the next.
    Freeway is certainly publishing the code correctly, so this is does not appear to be a Freeway issue - though we would like to get to the source of the problem so we can advise customers on the best options to fix things. If you Google for "firefox4 quicktime movie problem" (without the quotes) you will see that this is not a problem specific to Freeway users.
    Leopard users report that Firefox 4 displays and plays QT movies fine, but Snow Leopard seems to have problems. This may be due to the way that QuickTime and Firefox 4 play together, as Leopard and Snow Leopard use slightly different versions of QuickTime.
    You should, however, be aware that non-Mac users will always need to download the QuickTime plug-in (which many PC users are reluctant to do, and some may not be allowed to by their IT department) for them to be able to see the movies play. The only truly universal method for offering video content on a web page is to use Flash .flv files and then use the FLV Player Action so that iPhone/iPad users will see an alternative (non-Flash) movie which is created by the Action. See the movie tutorial at <http://www.softpress.com/support/tutorials> (Episode 14) for details of how to set this up.
    As soon as we find a workaround for the problems with Firefox 4 and Chrome, we will put up an article on our KnowledgeBase at <http://www.softpress.com/kb/>. It might be that Firefox and Chrome will release a new update soon to fix the problem, in which case we will tell you which version you need to download an install.
    Best regards
    So the FW people insist that there software is encoded the pages properly and it is the fault of the newer Mac browsers causing the error.

  • IWeb hypertext links to pages from my site not "viewable" in some browsers

    I am new to iWeb 08. iWeb created hypertext links to eleven pages from my "top level" site are not "clickable" or viewable in some browsers yet the hyperlinks I added on top page to other sites don't present a problem.
    No problem with Safari or AOL Desktop Version 1.2 or Firefox browsers. However, AOL Ver 10.3.7 (rev 4136.310) only shows other site links and NOT the page links at the top of site page. Only a dot is visible where links to other pages in the site. I thought it could have been a Java Scripts problem so I updated my AOL to latest JAVA. Not concerned for my part but others with Mac AOL may have same problem.
    Is there something I could do diferent at my site or is this another AOL shortcoming?
    See: http://web.mac.com/louiedea/OceanaMed_Cruise_2008/MedCruise08.html
    Thanks, LouieDeA

    Gayle,
    No solution yet. I am sure it is a shortcoming of AOL's Mac browser but am trying to contact AOL support (difficult now that they are free). I don't use their browser but there are probably those that do. I presume you don't have that problem when you use Safari, etc?

  • CSS divs running into each other 4x3 screens but not widescreen

    I am trying to develop a site:
    http://www.poweredupgamers.com.
    Everything looks great on a widescreen monitor, but when I view it
    on older 4x3 monitors the divs run into each other and the spacing
    gets all messed up. This occurs regardless of the resolution the
    monitors are using.
    I thought by setting up margins with % (5% left margin for
    left div, etc.) that the divs would change in size to fill the
    pages regardless of the resolution the monitor is set at. The divs
    do seem to adjust for the resolution, but the monitor format
    appears to be a different issue. Do I need to set fixed div
    positions or widths to fix this issue? If so, how do I set them to
    ensure the page is filled properly (as little blank space as
    possible) regardless of the monitor's resolution?
    Does it have anything to do with fixed sizes for certain
    images inside divs sizes based on % margins?
    Thanks very much for any help!

    Resolution is not the critical issue. Browser viewport width
    is. To make
    your decision you need to have some ideas about the following
    issues -
    1. What is the primary target demographic for this site?
    2. What are the browsing habits of that demographic? Do they
    normally have
    their browser window maximized on the screen?
    3. If they usually have their browser maximized, what is the
    typical screen
    width?
    4. If they usually do NOT have their browser maximized, what
    is the MINIMUM
    screen width in that demographic.
    5. How do I want to build the page?
    a. Fixed width and left aligned?
    b. Fixed width and centering?
    c. Flexible to fill whatever width from left to right?
    d. Flexible (within limits) and left aligned?
    e. Flexible (within limits) and centering?
    As you can see, this decision is probably much more complex
    than you
    thought, and will require that you know quite a bit about
    your intended
    target visitor and their browsing habits.
    If you elect to go with 5a, or 5b, then your decision would
    be - 'what is
    the mimimum browser width I want to support without
    horizontal scrolling?'.
    Once you have determined that minimum supported width, all of
    your decisions
    are made. That's how wide you want your page to be.
    If you elect to go with 5c, then you just build your page
    within a flexible
    container (the simplest example - although an obsolet one -
    would be to use
    a 100% width table to hold the entire page). Be aware that
    pages with
    limited text content can look VERY sparse and empty on wide
    viewports when
    built in this way.
    If you elect to go with 5d, or 5e, then you would add this
    sophistication to
    your decision matrix -
    'what is the greatest width I want to allow the page and its
    contents to
    become?'
    In this case, you would use the CSS styles - 'min-width' and
    'max-width' on
    the primary page container. Just so you'll know, although
    these styles are
    well supported *now*, earlier versions of IE (and some other
    browsers) will
    not support them so reliably.
    So - which is it? 8)
