Some of my tracks in my iTunes library (eg: audiobooks, lengthy classical music pieces) only play for either 6 or 8 minutes then halt. Why?
So if there is a track that would last longer than 6 or 8 minutes, the track simply stops playing.
My library has been built over 6 or 7 years, contains no illegal music, 85% bought from iTunes, rest is ripped CDs. I have transferred my library at least three times from laptop to laptop as I have upgraded machines, and used different account names and passwords as I have moved around in my job. As an aside, every time I transfer the library it screws up, always the audiobooks and always the classical music and how I have it all catalogued.
I am asuming it's a iTunes library problem, not a problem with my iPod classic?

Actually I think that its a problem with either the gapless data or the song volume settings that has been brought by itunes 7. When adding new files to the library, iTunes takes a while to determine volume/gapless information. I have replaced files and itunes didn't check the volume and info again, that is why every song stops playing at the last 40 seconds only on the iPod.
I re-added one of the bad files and it played perfectly, but I don't want to lose the data on the other 60 odd files, so is there a way of forcing iTunes to recheck these files? (otherwise i'd have to re-rate and play the songs to the level they are right now)

I've just downloaded a sd movie from iTunes with my ipad but the movie will only play for 13s then a msg comes up saying "could not load video! I've paid for it and downloaded the whole thing ! Can anybody help me pls?

I would recommend deleting the affected movie from your iPad, and redownloading the movie.

I had to wipe my hard drive clean and reload all my programs. After reloading Itunes, I noticed that some songs will not play, they are skipped over, or the songs plays for 1-2 secs then it skips on to next song. Any ideas what I did wrong? All songs played before and some of affected songs are bought, some are my old library I copied off of CDs

I want to Format my Zen Touch and reload the Firmware to start from scratch, but I first want to backup my 28 GBs of MP3 and WMA files. However I noticed that when I transfer the files to my hard dri've, all the ID3 Information is gone. Now adding ID3 info to 28GB of files will take days!
Strange. Did you edit the tag data on the player? If so what happens is the tag data changes are made in the Music Library but not in the files themselves. There's only one way to write the changes back and this involves getting a copy of MediaSource 3. You then transfer the files back to the PC Music Library, and use an update function to update the files (the PC Music Library will have the same tag data as the Music Library on the player). One problem is that MediaSource 3 is very large, and not available from Creative as a download. I can try and get a copy to you if you can't find it elsewhere. -
Some songs that previously played without issue now just play for the first 10 seconds or so and then skip onto the next song
I wish I could provide you an answer, but I am experiencing the same issue myself. It's somehow iTunes related from what I have been able to figure out.
Here are a couple of clues I've picked up so far:
Somewhere between 20-30% of the songs in my library are affected.
I have only seen AAC encoded songs exhibit the problem (iTunes purchased, not imported).
I haven't seen the issue with any songs I bought after Jan 20, 2009.
Playing the same song file in quicktime doesn't reproduce the issue.
Affected songs skip on both iTunes and the iPod app of my iPhone 4 alike.
Forcing the song to stop at the end through the song options doesn't resolve the problem.
Songs skip (end) at random times from song to song, but repeatedly for each song at the same location.
The biggest clue that I've found is that when I find an affected file, almost all songs I purchased on that date exhibit the same problem. (I have only found a few examples when it does not affect every song on the same purchase date group.)
Some details about my setup:
Windows 7 Professional
iTunes version 10.6.3.25
iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1.1

hi there, i have major problems with itunes freezing on my mac Mini, its okay for the first minute or two then it freezes and i get the spinning colour wheel and i have to force close.
can anyone help?I suspect that you'll have to mount that volume at boot time and not at login time as you're doing now. If you can arrange that, then the volume should be available to all users.
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to do a boot-time mount. I tried searching for "mount drive startup mac" (without the quotes), but most of the results described how to mount a volume at login time. Ignore any advice that mentions "Login Items".
I did find this discussion, but it's very sketchy. You also have to be careful that any advice you find applies to the version of OS X that you're using. -
I just purchased a album and one or more of the tracks does not play all the way through. One track which is a 13 minute track will only play for the first 3 minutes. Larry

When I try to play some of the songs in my itunes library, I get a prompt saying the file cannot be used. When I hit the locate button, the file cannot be found. I didn't delete any songs/files and there is no common link between the missing songs.

You will need to keep the number of the tracks below 25K. One option is to delete tacks and remove from your library.
If you wish to keep the files in your itunes library, you can manage the itunes match library by creating a second blank library.
You create a second library by holding shift key and choose create new library from pop up box. The name of library usually defaults to itunes1 ( you can rename if you wish). The library will be completely blank until you sign into the iTunes Store and activate match. You will be asked to add this computer. Do so. Once match process is completed you will now see all music that has been matched, uploaded or purchased. Each track will have download icon and you will be able to stream music.
If you delete the track you will get a message telling that it has been deleted from the cloud and any associated devices that you use for streaming but it is important to note that the track has not been deleted from your hard drive.
To verify this log out of iTunes, relaunch holding option key and select original library from pop up. You library will be as before I.e total number in your library has not changed.
You should have iCloud status column added to song view - this tells you if tracks have been matched, uploaded, purchased, duplicate, ineligible and more importantly "removed". The tracks deleted from second library will have iCloud status as removed. Match will ignore this in future scans. Track is still available on your hard drive.
Doing this will enable you to keep all you music in your itunes library on your computer. Whilst the "removed" tracks will be on your computer, they will not be available on ipad.

Some of the content in my Itunes library has the "!" next to them and is unable to play the songs as it says the source is no longer available, yet on an old Ipod the same tracks are available and play fine?
I would love to know how to consolidate all my music and be able to play it without one device saying they are unavailable yet another device says they are?
Also how obsurd is it for Apple to charge for supporting their devices! Or is that just me?Welcome to the Apple Community.

When i try and sync my IPOD Nano it says 'some of the items in the itunes library were not copied because they could not be found'. Unfortunately this is pretty much all my library! Help!
This means iTunes can no longer locate the file in the location specified via the Get Info window for each individual track. See the article for assistance.

All tracks in my iTunes Library got locked
I don't know how or when this happened, but I was just going to paste some lyrics into a song in iTunes 9.0.3 and the Lyrics pane was grayed out. After checking things out, I find that most of my tracks in iTunes are somehow locked, as if they were DRM protected, although most of what I have was ripped by myself. I was able to convert the one track to mp3 which gave me an unlocked copy, but I don't want to have to convert thousands of songs.
I also somehow got all my tracks in iTunes UNchecked not long ago and didn't know it until I was trying to play stuff on my iPod and nothing was there. Getting them checked again wasn't a problem but I am pretty sure it happened on its own. Now iTunes is locking tracks on its own. I hope someone can offer a solution.I solved it myself. I moved the whole iTunes folder to the root level of the hard drive it was on, rather than inside the user folder and now I can access lyrics and other options for each track in my iTunes Library. I don't know why after several years of no problems, iTunes suddenly decided I shouldn't have access to those features.

For a couple months now, every movie purchase through iTunes fails to transfer to my iPhone or iPad giving me the error: "some of the items in the iTunes library, including were not copied to the iPad because you are not authorized for them on this computer". I have read many forums about deleting, reinstalling, de-authorizing and authorizing my iMac through the iTunes store. Many suggestions don't work except to rename the movie to *.MP4 in Finder under the iTunes movie directory. I imagine this is a setting or a bug somewhere... any suggestions on how to bypass having to rename the files in Finder? My research into Google suggests this problem dates back to 2007 or so but it is now more prevalent than ever.

I purchased tv shows for my son over 4th of July weekend from iTunes on my iPad...he has been watching with no problem...yesterday I backed up my iPad and the videos were taken off while I was syncing it. Error coming up states " warning some of the videos in your iTunes library including video "Dora" were not copied to the iPad "ellen's iPad " because they cannot be played on this iPad was not copied because the video format is not supported by the iPad.....makes no sense since he watched the video on Friday on my iPad...I went into the properties of the video and under the summary tab states kind of video is mpeg-4video file...went into the folder on my pc and the file is listed as a m4v file...under the tab tv shows when my iPad is connected I have it checked to sync tv shows and to automatically include "all" episodes of "all shows" ....
I am using version 4.3.4 on my iPad and iTunes version 10.4 ...I even restored back to the original settings and still did not work....called apple twice yesterday and spoke to 2 different people and no one could help me.....I am able to load a movie from my pc to my iPad with no problem and the movie is a mpeg-4video file....totally clueless...I kept having a similar problem - 3 out of the 10 videos I had on iTunes wouldn't sync. They were in the right format and I KNEW they worked on my iPod because I'd RECORDED them on my iPod. I finally figured out what to do! Go to the movies in your iTunes library. Click on one that does not sync. Click on "Advanced" at the top of iTunes and choose "Create iPod or iPhone version". Once that's finished, be sure you delete the old version so you don't keep getting the error (or have 2 copies of the same video) and sync. This should eliminate the problem. At least it did for me!
