Somehow my iTunes library or libraries got messed up - songs missing, can't be located, don't exist in locations Spotlight says they do, conflict between finder and spotlight, what a nightmare!
I think it be due to choosing "Reset" in Preferences/Advanced/iTunes Media Location" some time ago. Do I need to rebuild the whole finder/spotlight thing and if so, how?
Thanks a lot for no response I discovered Disk Utility.

Just bought a new pc and now my itunes library hasn't got all the songs on it after logging in
i had a very full i tunes library on my old pc, i have bought a new laptop and have transferred everything over to the new pc but when logging into itunes there isnt half the songs we own on there, i thought it was all on a cloud and can access on any pc? i have authorised my new pc to my account and sync all ipods we own, but i want all my songs in my itunes library
any helpIf you transferred "everything" over then that should have included your iTunes library. However the default location for an iTunes library may be different in Windows 7 from your previous version, or the copied data may not be in the correct location. Your library won't be in the cloud yet. As far as I'm aware the full service isn't active yet.
If you can find the iTunes library folder within the files that were transferred then you can either move it into the "correct" location, or persuade iTunes to connect to it where it is now. Alternatively transfer your iTunes library from your old computer, assuming you haven't disposed of it already.

Moved iTunes library from PC to Mac but songs missing
Followed the correct procedure for moving from a PC to a Mac and it has worked after several attempts (I used an external drive to move the library which is 125 gigs or there abouts)
Now some of the songs are being found and some are not, they are all there and when clicking on them itunes says media not present, would you like to browse for the correct location? I can do this and it works but it will take me forever to do this for all the missing items.
Any help as to why some songs are working and some not would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks :-)I dragged the itunes folder over from my old PC to an external HD, then dragged it onto the new Mac over writing the existing folder, it has worked but there are only about 10 % of my items being found, the rest have an exclamation mark next to them and I can browse to them and find them on the MAC but my library is around 8 years old and it would take ages for me to do this for every missing item.
Thanks for the reply :-)

My itunes won't launch even after reinstalling. Looked in itunes folder and somehow lost itunes library? HELP!
The first thing I'd suggest is to get a good antispyware checker and give it a go at your system. Some recent spyware has been reported by other users to shut down iTunes or prevent it from launching. From user reports, Ewido seems to be the best at catching it. You can download a free version of Ewido here.
If that doesn't cure the problem, try deleting the iTunes preference files:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
and
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Data\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
You might have to turn on "show hidden files" to find them. (Right click "my computer", select open, select Tools menu -> Folder Options. Select View tab, "show hidden files" radio button is in the center scrolling panel.) Delete them or if you want to be able to put them back if it doesn't help, drag them to some other location. This will force iTunes to run the setup assistant the next time you launch iTunes. Note that you'll have to go back and set any preferences you've changed from the default.
If that still doesn't work, try this:
Bugie: Perform a Thorough & Complete Uninstall and Reinstall of iTunes/QuickTime.
Hope this helps. -
My iTunes library is too large for my iPod classic--can I create a separate library so that I can split the current library and sync the distinct libraries onto separate iPods?
- If the Gmail accounts are IMAP one then if the library is erased and then you use the account old email will be redownload
- Easing the library on the MacBook does not effect what is on the iMac. On the other hand if you deleted the messages in the Mail app on the MacBook then they will deleted from all devices.

I'm a laptop DJ using virtual DJ. My tracks cary from 128 to 320 kbps. So i decided to purchase iTunes Match. After a few hours of matching my library from iTunes I've still got track 128kbps. I can't seem to get iCloud either.
Match does not change anything in your library. To get the new (uograded) copy for songs that match, you have to delete the original and download the matched copy.

on my itunes library my albums are all sorted but when i put onto my ipod touch (4th Gen) it seems to duplicate i have checked everything and there are no spaces in the information my question is how do isort it because these things drive me mad i would be most gratefully if you could find a way to help
thatnksNever mind, got it to work. I stumbled around on Google for a while and somehow ended up reading things from the 'jailbroken' community. They had easy instructions to get out of Recovery mode. Thanks anyway though!
P.S. For anyone who experiences this, here is the fix: Hold Power and Home in unison for 6 seconds, then power on as normal. -
Since I signed up for iTunes match, I've got about 150 songs that I Never bought, or want. Also, I'm missing a bunch of songs that I had on my computer before iTunes match. What the heck happened?
No, I'm the only one with access to my computer. I deleted all the unwanted songs and I hope they stay deleted. I found all my original songs in another folder. How they got there, I'll never know. It took a while, but I got all my songs back in the iTunes music library where they were before I got tangled up in this iTunes Match boondoggle. Apple has a ways to go before I'll mess with it again. By the way, you have to watch out for sisters.

I have an iMac and I am running out of disc space. I am considering an external drive to house my iTunes library. If I buy a second drive to operate as a back up will time machine back up the disc on the IMac and the external drive with the iTunes library?
If you have a considerable photograph and/or movie collection you may want to consider off loading those to the EHD too. Here are Apple's article showing how handle iTunes & iPhoto libraries.

How do you encrypt voice memos in the itunes library so no one else at your computer can listen to them?
iTunes has no ability to encrypt anything. You'll need to search for encryption software appropriate for whatever type of computer you have. Or, you could set up separate accounts for other users of your computer and password your account.
