Sometimes I can't add text in a text layer.

I have PSE9 and sometimes, when attempting to add text to a text layer, I'm unable to do so. I click the text tool, but the move tool icon displays on the screen even though the text parameters show at the top of the screen. Any idea what's going on?

On the text tool's option bar, top left, click on the little arrow, then reset all tools. If that does not fix it, suggest that you reset preferences.
Windows
Step 1. Hold down the Alt + Ctrl + Shift keys as you click on the icon to open Elements. When asked if you want to delete the settings file, say yes.
Step 2. Reset the preferences as above.
Step 3. Close Elements and let the file regenerate.
Macintosh
Step 1. Hold down the Opt + Cmd + Shift keys as you click on the icon to open Elements. When asked if you want to delete the settings file, say yes.

To make use of a wider margin next to longer texts I usually work with two column tables in WORD. No problem to add footnotes to a text there.
How can I add footnotes to text in a table when using PAGES?
Or -alternatively - how can I write an ordinary text that has still a wider margin into which you can add annotations, notes etc.?

Footnotes doesn't work for tables in Pages. You can create columns in Pages. You can use Insert column break to being able to keep some text in one column and some in the other. Foot notes will work here.

Can´t add texteffects to editorable text

Hi, did i do something wrong or is it a bug? I can´t add effects to text, but to textframes.

Visual effects are not well supported by browsers without converting the text to an image, which will make the site slower to load in the browser and causes pixelation when the browser is zoomed. However, there is a trick you can use to force Muse to apply effects to the text and have it convert to an image when published.
Muse does not want to make it easy to convert text to an image because of the performance and quality issues mentioned. However, if the text already has to be rasterized, it will happily allow you to apply effects. There are two ways to cause text to rasterize:
1. Rotate the frame and give it a None fill; or
2. Use a System font and give it a None fill.

Can't add database field or text object to a report (new and existing)

We have Crystal Report 8.5 and when trying to modify an existing report or create a new report, I can't seem to add any database fields or text objects in my report. I get a prohibition symbol (circle with a backslash inside it) when I hover over the report. Has anyone encoutered something like this? Any suggestions? Thank you.

Do you have two monitors?
I had this problem if I tried to open crystal in the second monitor, move it back to primary monitor and it should be OK.

How can you add comments to a text file while using a Digital Waveform vi?

Hi. I'm very new to Labview. I have a txt file of 1's and 0's wired to a "read from text file" which is then wired to a "spreadsheet string to digital.vi" ("digital waveform") and lastly to a graph. I want to add notes to the txt file that will not be read in the digital waveform. i.e. Like how you use // or /* in a C++ program to show that you are writing a comment and not code.

You will just need in your text file a line at a time. Search the string for the characters // or /*. If it finds them, then loop back and read another line. If it doesn't find them, you must have a good line of data and you can pass on to the next part of your cod.

Can't add drop shadow to text in PSE 6

Everyone says to do Layer > Layer Style > Style Settings.
But when I go to Layer Style and try to get to Style Settings, Style Settings is greyed out. (The text in quesiton is already selected.)
In fact, I've tried everything possible to get Style Settings to become engaged and have not been able to do that.
Also, when I go into Effects and try to add cool effect (torn paper, glowing edges, etc.) to the text, it automatically changes the color of my text. For example, my text is orange and when I tried "glowing edges" it changed the text to olive drab... and it certainly didn't glow.
Any guidance you can give with these issues... thanks!

Style Settings is for adjusting styles you've already added. The effects you listed are all filters, not effects or layer styles and they use the foreground/background colors, so yes, they will change the color of your text. To apply a drop shadow click the Layer styles button on the effects panel, choose drop shadows from the pulldown menu and double click the one you want. If you don't like it, undo it and try a different one. Then you should be able to adjust things like the angle and distance of the shadow by adjusting the style settings.

How can I add "arrow pointers" and text to photos on my mac?

I take pics for safety inspections and I can edit them in paint on my PC but I need a referral to a good app to do the same for my mac. The arrows I point to the safety issues and usually add a caption so when I take it back to the directors I can show a presentation of the exact safety issues that need fixing. Using photo proof and adding the arrows and caption make it much more professional. But there are so many apps out there I don't want to waste $29.99 for an app if it doesn't work or if y'all know of a better one.

Can one add more than one photo layer to a draw image?

I cannot seem to find a way to add more than one photo or photo layer to a Draw image, but the Draw page on Adobe seems to imply multiple photos can be added. How might I accomplish this? Thanks for your time.

Unfortunately, Draw is currently limited to one photo layer, and only one photo within that layer.

How can I add a picture to a layer above a background photo?

I create two layers, a background photo at the bottom and a empty transparent space at the top. I click on the top space to make it active. I copy a different photo. I click on paste. The computer replaces the background photo with the new photo. I want it to keep the background photo and put the new photo in the top space.

There is nothing to install for the clipboard. It is part of windows. It is just a portion of memory where you can copy and paste data to or from. Windows use to have a clipboard viewer, but I don't know if they still have it or not. (whether or not it has been updated for the latest version of windows)
You can paste to an image editor or a text program to see what is on the clipboard. Keep in mind all graphics must be pasted to an image editor and text must be pasted to a text editor.
shortcuts to memorize - on all programs.
ctrl-z = undo
ctrl-x = cut
ctrl-c = copy
ctrl-v = paste
These are all grouped together so they will be easy to remember.

Can you add layers below a Composite Layer?

Once you create a composite layer at the top of your layer stack w. Option-click on "Merge Visible" in the Layer Panel Menu, is that new layer the only layer that now shows (represents) the image? For instance, if another adjustment layer is added below it, and the Background layer is the only image layer, will the effect of that adjustment be visible? Or do I need to delete the composite layer and create a new one to include the new adjustment layer?
The reason I ask has to do with an illustration (below) I came across from one of Mark Johnson's old NAPP tutorials (Total Control Glowing Montage). In his tutorial "Layer 1" was created as a composite layer of the Background Layer and "Levels 1" which had a Smart Filter applied to it. Then the two "Levels 1" copy layers were added last to fine-tune the effect of the Levels 1 adjustment. Notice they are BELOW the composite layer. Does this work? Thanks.

I no longer have access to the tutorial which I saw last year on the NAPP website. But here are the 5 steps mentioned:
1. Starting w. a Background layer, create a Levels Adj. layer w. Screen blending mode to overexpose image, "Levels 1."
2. Create a composite layer and apply a smart filter, Gausian Blur with a Multiply blend mode to darken, "Layer 1."
3. Preserve highlights by painting on Levels 1 mask with various opacities of black brush.
4. Open the shadows by duplicating Levels 1 layer, fill mask with black and paint shadow areas w. white brush, "Levels 1 copy."
5. If shadows are still too dark, repeat previous step by creating an additional duplicate levels layer and painting in shadows again, "Levels 1 copy, copy."
The affect looks great and is why I would like to figure this out. Thanks.

Novice: Can I add vector graphics to a pdf?

Have Acrobat Pro 7 but have been using it only for creating simple pdfs from Office documents.
I'm starting my education on other capabilities.
Can I add vector graphics (shapes, text) to a pdf or do I need to get the pdf into a tool like AI first?
We're going to be working with maps (GIS output) and, to start, I'm assuming we'll want the maps as pdfs. In some cases we'll want to add some markup.

As PDF is, essentially, a "non-editable" format (aside from minor touchups) you'll want to work content in an authoring application.
Output a PDF, containing the vector graphics, from an authoring application.
Provide the desired PDF page content in an authoring application as well.

try holding
down ALT - and then typing 0149 on the numeric key pad.
