Songs not playing anyplace on my computer

My songs use to play in ITunes but for some reason they aren't any more and the play scroller won't move. I tried to run them in my other standard audio players and they won't there anymore either. Does anyone know why this might be?

Sounds like your audio drivers went haywire.
Go to the Control Panel, hit Add Hardware.
If it doesn't find your sound card automatically, click to get the list, and hit 'Generic Audio Drivers.'

    Hi Kevin,
Have you authorized the Computer to your Apple ID?
If not, sign on to iTunes.
Then got to the Store menu option at the top of the screen (CTL+B if it is not showing), and click on it to display the dropdown, and select Authorize this computer.
If that doesn't work, then sign on your Dad's iTunes ID and repeat the Authorization process.
    Cheers,

  • A large number of songs, my kids bought under an account that nobody knows the password to.  The account name I know, but the email address associated with it is no longer available.  How do I authorize the songs to play on this new computer.

A large number of songs were bough under an itunes account that we no longer have the password for nor access to the old associated email address.  I know the account name but it no longer exists.  How do I now authorize these songs to play on this new computer.  I do know my current itunes account information.

It's not a good idea to post your email address on public forums, I've asked the hosts to remove them.
All content is tied to the account that downloaded them, and you can't currently transfer them to a different account. If you don't know the password to that account then you can try getting it reset via this page http://iforgot.apple.com . If you can't get it done that way then you can try getting access to the account by contacting iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page. If you get access to it you can then change the primary email account on it to one that you have access to : http://appleid.apple.com

  • Songs not playing in iTunes 7

Since I downloaded the new iTunes 7, I cannot play any songs in my library, or on disc. I could with the old version. Does anyone know what is different about version 7 which could be creating this problem?

Its working!!! I did everything in the "frequently asked questions" reply re songs not playing - nothing seemed to work until I restarted my computer. Now its fine.

  • Older itunes purchases will not play on newly authorized computer...

before i got an apple id i was using my aol account for my itues account id.  eventually got an apple id which i've used to make purchases over the last couple of years.  just got a new computer and the songs i purchased with my old aol itunes id will not play on the new computer.  when i try to authorize the song using my current apple id it says my computer is already authorized to play the song.  any ideas?

I meant to mention that I bought a new song from iTunes since getting the new iPod hooked up as a 'test' and it will not play either. I thought possibly the older purchases were associated with the other player...
    Thanks

  • Random songs NOT PLAYING!

is this just something iPod gen 4 users have to put up with? is there really no 'fix' out there? we paid too much money to have to be dealing with this...
i upload songs to my iTunes and they play just fine on there - once they are on my iPod (gen 4) they do not play. the title will show up, it hovers on the title for a while, but never plays and just skips on to the next song. WHY??!!
i've seen older posts on this, but no one seems to have a solution. who can i talk to??

I'm having the exact same problem, and I see since your post was in May, apparently no one knows how to correct it. I have a few songs that play fine on my computer, and in iTunes, and even when I have my iPod connected and play from my iPod music list. But when I disconnect my iPod, the songs will not play. It hovers over the song for a few seconds, then skips to the next one.
Does ANYONE know how to fix this issue? I've been an iPod user for 7 years and love my nano, but I will replace it in a heartbeat if it doesn't work 100%.

  • Upgraded to IOS5, now music doesnt work right, displayed song not playing, plays 3,4 songs then stops although is appears to be playing. Help

upgraded to IOS5, now music not working right. displayed song not playing, plays 4,5 songs and stops although it appears that it is playing. Cycled pwr, didn't work. tried resyncing, same thing.Help?

I have an iPhone 4 and ever since I upgraded to iOS5 i've got the same problem. Apple need to release a patch as there's no way of fixing this unless we downgrade our phones back to iOS4 which would just suck!
I often shut the music app down and start again but even then the artwork doesn't match the song playing and will only play a few songs. It's frustrating when you're driving or going for a run, having to pull over or stop and sort it out.
We'll have to wait for Apple to bring out a patch unfortunately.

  • Full protected or purchased songs not playing

full protected or purchased songs not playing all the way through.

I have deleted them and re downloaded and they still do not work!!

  • In my shuffle 4g the songs not playing properly most of the times it gives some kind of sound and stop playing songs.

in my shuffle 4g the songs not playing properly most of the times it gives some kind of sound and stop playing songs.

First, make sure the headphones plug is completely pushed into the headphones jack.  Because the jack serves multiple functions, the fit may be tighter than expected (especially if you have the Apple EarPods).
Also, try using the headphones with another device, to rule out bad headphones.  Or try another set of (known working) headphones with the shuffle.
Are you using older headphones that have remote control buttons?  Not the latest EarPods and not the immediately previous version of white Apple earbuds.  Or non-Apple headphones with remote control buttons.  It's possible they are not compatible and interfering with the shuffle's operation.  Any standard headphones (with no buttons) should work.
If that does not help, you can try doing a Restore on the shuffle in iTunes.  The Restore button is on the shuffle's Summary screen in iTunes.  This will erase the shuffle, reinstall its software, and set it to defaut settings.  If a software (or settings) problem on the shuffle is the cause, the Restore should fix it.
Otherwise, if the Restore does not help, it may be a hardware problem.  If it has been less than one year since purchase, it is under warranty.

  • Some purchased songs not playing after moving to new computer

I migrated my music library to a new computer by moving the entire iTunes folder from the old computer to an external hard drive then to the new computer. When I synced my iPhone using the new computer, everything synced fine the first time except for an error saying three songs could not be converted properly. When I try to play the songs in iTunes, it tells me they are not authorized to play on the new computer then asks me to login to authorize (even though I already had logged in beforehand). Even after logging in again they won't play. The tracks won't play on the iPhone either.
The three tracks are part of a full album which I purchased via the music store on my iPhone. They synced to my old computer with no problem. They show up in my purchases section in iTunes. And the other 8 tracks from the same album work just fine. And I just double checked, and the tracks no longer play on the old machine either. The only weird thing was that when I synced it appeared as though iTunes downloaded the songs again even though they were already in the existing library. Any idea what's going on here and how to fix it?

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past music purchases, delete the broken tracks from your iTunes library (but do not hide from iCloud), close and then reopen iTunes, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not in My Library. You should find download links for your tracks there.
While downloading click the small download activity widget near the search box and make sure Allow Simultaneous Downloads is unticked. This may improve the reliability of subsequent downloads.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the "Report a problem" links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

  • Songs not playing in iTunes9 and no sound on computer in general

After doing the ITunes 9 upgrade when I click on a song it will not play. There is no movement in the progress bar for each song.
Also when trying to get media files to play on VLC or Quicktime there is no sound either.
    Some help would be great.
    Much thanks

Same Problem here PumpkinLane...Songs don't play (progress) - Previews in ITunes store don't play...but all other songs and video (non Apple related) play just fine.
Wow...It's pretty frustrating to see this has been outstanding since APRIL and Apple still hasn't responded. Trying to go the route of "SUPPORT" requires you to select hardware - which doesn't work for something just relating to iTunes. (I don't have a MAC and it's not a problem with my iPhone - duh!)
I had this problem upgrading to 9.02. I have three other computers with iTunes - all upgraded, with no problem with the playing.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes - no change.
I have also followed the instructions in the support article: support.apple.com/kb/ht2292 - which took several hours as I tediously clicked through each program to try to isolate. Still no change.
Apple support - can you please reply?

  • HT202213 When I have downloaded and paid for music several time the song will not play, saying that my computer is not authorized.  When I follow insturction to authorize the computer says it already  authorized and song or songs will not play...... Help.

Authorized music purchased will not play says unauthorized to play and when you follow instructions to fix the issue says authorized...

If only a few songs on an album are doing that, that suggests the tracks are damaged.
If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • Songs not playing on iPod Touch

I upgraded my iPod Touch 4G to iOS 5.  I had trouble with apps but they are fixed now.  My problem now is music.  It retained my data but some songs won't play.  I didn't buy them on iTunes - they are from an older library when I didn't have iTunes.  Now it just plays the next song and it's very irritating.  They play on my computer and I haven't changed the file location.  Any tips?

Not sure if your issue is the same I had: not playing tunes, playing the wrong tune, skipping ahead several tunes, selected song and playing song not matching. Here was my fix:
Altered from original solution from Emily P:
Okay, mine now works here is what I did.
plug in the iPhone, iPad etc
in iTunes select the phone or iPad
Under Summary uncheck "Sync with this....."
Under "Music" uncheck the "Sync Music"
    Sync
Let it remove all the songs, dont worry it will come back no problems.
Once that is all done all the music on the phone or ipad should be gone.
Now check them both back on, sync, and everything should copy back onto it.
    Working now !!!!!

  • Songs not playing on iPod but they do on iTunes

I recently bought a iPod and have been transfering songs that were already on my computer to my iPod. I went to play one album and it just skipped through all the tracks and wouldn't play them. On other albums only some of the songs have been put on iPod/iTunes and I can't work out why. The albums that I'm trying to put on are not from iTunes store but some of them work and others don't.
Any ideas how to get round this problem?

I have experienced a similar problem and was able to isolate the situation to a group of MP3 format songs that I imported into my iTunes library from CD several years ago. They were stored as MP3 format rather than the M4A format that is currently used.
The problem seems to have developed recently on iPod classic with the last release of firmware.
Several suggestions were tried to fix the problem (which did not work for me). Things tried that did NOT work - reset ID3 tags, MP3 validator, turning off artwork, the back light trick, etc.
I finally reripped the music into my iTunes library and resynched my iPod classics and life is wonderful again on the iPod classic.
