Sony cybershot videos automatically import into iPhoto on MacBook Pro but not iPhoto on Mac Mini

This is so weird.  I have iPhoto '11 vers 9.4.2 OS 10.7.5 running on both my MacBook Pro and my Mac Mini.  I can hook up the Sony cybershot and import all photos and videos into the MacBook Pro's iPhoto without any problems or special actions.  But the MacMini will only import the photos and never recognizes the videos even being there.
As a work around I can then drag the videos from the MacBook Pro's iPhoto window to the desktop, then turn on file sharing and pull them into iPhoto on the Mac Mini w/out any problems.
Info on the videos on the MacBook Pro's iPhoto: 1920x1080 H.264 29.97 fps
Once those videos are dragged to the desktop it's a .mov and opens in Quicktime
Info on the videos on the MacBook Pro's Desktop before file sharing to the Mac Mini:  Format: AVCHD 1080i60, 1440 x 1080 (1920 x 1080), Millions  16 bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo (LR) 48kHz  29.97 fps  Data Rate: 83.1 Mbit/s
What's going on here?  Is there some special codecs or something on the MacBook Pro iPhoto that the Mac Mini's Iphoto doens't have?  How can I fix this so my wife can import the videos straight to iPhoto on the Mac Mini like I'm able to do on my MacBook Pro?
Thanks!
J

Yes and no. It is my understanding that the most direct way will require attaching the script to each of the subfolders. However, the attaching of the script can be done using AppleScript. Those subfolders that are already in existence can have the scripts attached using the following script:
click here to open this script in your editor<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #222; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:400px">property WatchedFolderName : "Camera Phone Images"
property WatchedFolderPath : ((path to desktop) as text) & WatchedFolderName
property ScriptName : "Subfolder detection.scpt"
property ScriptPath : ((path to Folder Action scripts) as text) & ScriptName
tell application "Finder"
set target of window 1 to folder WatchedFolderPath
set theSubFolders to folders of entire contents of target of window 1
repeat with i from 1 to count of theSubFolders
tell application "System Events"
attach action to (item i of theSubFolders as string) using ScriptPath
end tell
end repeat
end tell</pre>
and subsequently added folders can be caught by adding a test for folders being added in the folder action script. I am working out the details on that one now.

  • Not all videos will import into iphoto...

    hi,
i cannot get all my videos to import into iphoto 09. the process stops with an error "there was an error importing Photo".
what is causing this and is there a workaround?
    please advise.
    thank you.

    hi,
ty, i will give your suggestion a try.
also, i solved the problem by resetting the phone. hold down the sleep-switch and home button together for 10sec and then when you get the quit screen keep holding down the two buttons together.
    this also solved the problem..

  • Imported old computer via time machine into new 2012 macbook pro, but its still running ilife 09 instead of 11?

imported old computer via time machine into new 2012 macbook pro, but its still running ilife 09 instead of 11?

I am assuming you had iLife 09 on the old computer - when you moved everything over, that came along with it.
I also have older versions of iLife (on install disks) and just recently got a new 2012 Macbook Pro. I noticed that iMovie 11, iPhoto and Garageband (I think) are listed in my Mac App Store Purchases with a notation to "accept". So you might want to check MAS to see if the apps are sitting there.
Now, I have chosen not to accept them for now for two reasons: I have iLife 11 on a disk and prefer that rather than having it tied to MAS/Apple ID and as long as I have my disk version installed, I also still have iDVD which I use a lot. I'm not sure if "accepting" those three from MAS would wipe out my iLife 11 installs including iDVD (which would be unacceptable for me). So, since I already have the latest version, I've opted to ignore the "accept" and, in fact, will leave it like that - if I ever sell this machine, the buyer can then accept them if they want with their own Apple ID. So before accepting the apps (if they are listed in MAS), you might want to check to make sure that your iLife install isn't wiped out - that is, if you have iDVD and want to keep it.

  • How do you stop automatic import into iPhoto?

I am a photoshop user, a pro, but new to the mac. iPhoto is installed and everytime I insert a compact flash card into the system, iPhoto starts up and attempts to import the photos.
How do I stop this? I don't want iPhoto. I want Photoshop or nothing at all to happen? Thanks!

Image Capture, in your Applications Folder, controls this. Launch Image Capture and go
    Image Capture Menu -> Preferences
There you can select your options for what happens when you connect your camera or card.

  • Why does a utube video show on my MacBook Pro, but not on my iPad?

    Hello,
My MB Pro runs Mavericks, ver.10.9.4, my iPad is an iPad4 ver. 7.1.2 (11D257), Model: MD512B/A, 64GB Retina.  Browser: Firefox ver 32.0.1
I use iWeb 3.0.4 (601) to run my website: http://www.lakesweddingmusic.com
On my website, I have three uTube videos, which run perfectly fine on my laptop, but one of them - the first one on the site, with the picture of a bride - refuses to load on my iPad.  I have used exactly the same method for importing the HTML code for all the videos, yet the first video just will not appear on the iPad for some reason.  I have no idea why this should be the case.  When I first uploaded the video to uTube and imported the code to iWeb, it worked for a while, but now - nothing.
Any help would be most appreciated.

    Region Code 4:
Mexico, Central and South America, and the South Pacific.
Includes Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Aruba, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, British Virgin Islands, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Falkland Islands, French Guiana, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, New Guinea, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, Venezuela
Apparently my first response was off in left field.  The DVD player has its own code.  My recommendation is to change the code when it asks.  It is possible that the disks that play correctly are region-free and the ones that don't have a region code.  If this does not work, you still have four more changes available; you won't be stuck with the new code.

  • Why do Hulu videos run great on a 2009 Macbook Pro, but suck on my 1-week-old Macbook?

I just bought a new Macbook pro.  I've installed the latest version of flash player, and streaming videos are jumpy and jerky.  It's subtle (my wife has a hard time noticing it), but it is there.  It's much more noticeable when I play the same video side-by-side on our old Macbook...
Meanwhile, our 2009 Macbook pro plays videos very well.  It's such a dinosaur that we can't even update the flash player or the web browsers anymore.
The new Macbook is running OSX 10.9.3 (Maverick, IIRC), and flash was installed yesterday (version 14.0.0.125).  The jerky video play happens in both Safari and Firefox.
The old Macbook is running OSX 10.5.8 (Leopard), and Flash 10.3.183.15
So, how can I make my new computer work "right?"

There are multiple reasons that lead to issue. You should read the troubleshooting guide to get the right solution to solve the issue: iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support

  • Video distortion on cold Macbook Pro but not on warm one

    Hello,
my mid 2010 Macbook Pro shows a very weird issue lately.
When i boot up from a cold state (physically cold like first boot in the morning) it shows some
screen distortion and hangs (mostly at the user selection screen).
Mouse is responsive but i cant click on anything.
The screen distortion is basically some kind of pattern between good and not good "small tiles"
    of screen.
The weird thing is now that if i turn off and on a few times (2-3) it goes away. As soon as the Macbook
gets warm the problem disappears. It wont come back during usage until the Macbook gets cold
    again.
One more thing, the distortion seems to be sensitive to physical movement of the Macbook.
That means if i shake or twist it, the distortion changes a bit. Doesnt go away completely though.
Many thanks for any suggestion what to try.

Did you purchase AppleCare? If so, you'll still be under warranty. If not, you'll have to pay for any repairs. Because it sounds as if you have a graphics card problem.
If I were you - warranty or not - I'd take the machine to your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them run extensive diagnostics. You need not pay for the diagnosis but if it is your video card they will have to replace the whole logic board which can be quite expensive.
But take it in and have it diagnosed, at least.

  • Working on iPad2, I can create new albums from digital camera imports in Photos; however, when the album is automatically imported into iPhoto, it has lost its custom photo or ding and replaced it with a chronological order. How do I reorder them?

Is there a way to preserve the album order and format when it moves from Photos to iPhoto for easy export sharing or advanced sideshow treatments? Can I create the albums on the iPad in iPhoto and format with custom photo ordering? Or do I have to carry and work in Mac?

This is normal and is how Apple handles photos.
    There are NOT duplicate photos.
Just as a song is in your itunes library and you can access that exact same song from a playlist,  all  photos synced to iphone are in the photo library and those exact same photos (NOT duplicates) can be accessed from the individual albums.
It is working exactly as it should.

  • Importing into iPhoto 6 from Sony DSC-T1 crashes the application

Until I updated to iLife 06 I never had trouble importing photos into iPhoto from my Sony DSC-T1. Now, within seconds of clicking on the "import now" button the program crashes, and I've sent the obligitory bug report to Apple, but now the card is full and I don't know where to turn...

Strange. Sorry to hear about your problems. Rather than importing via iPhoto directly from the camera, why don't you try getting the images off the card in the Finder? When you plug in the camera an icon for the memory card will appear on your desktop. Quit iPhoto if it automatically comes up. Create a folder on your desktop. Double click the memory card icon, and browse its contents until you find the image files. Drag them to the folder you created, and wait for the copy to complete. Then launch iPhoto and drag the folder of images into iPhoto.
Hopefully Apple support will be able to help you with that camera import into iPhoto. Is it on the iPhoto supported list?

  • How do I save my iPhone videos to my MacBook Pro? It seems like they import into iPhoto as photos instead of videos...?

I need to open up some space on my iPhone 5 but I have a ton of videos of my newborn/toddler son on it that I don't want to lose.  What is the best way to ensure they are archived safely to my MacBook Pro hard drive?  It seems that they import into iPhoto along with the photos, but I'm not sure if they stay videos or get turned into photos.  If they are in iPhoto, what's the best way to make sure they get exported and backed up to an external safely.  Thanks in advance for the help!

An imported video cannot change or get turned into a photo file by the import. An imported video will have an icon of a still frame from the video. Have you selected any of the imported videos in iPhoto to watch/play the video?
With a Mac, you can import photos and videos with iPhoto or with the Image Capture application. One is not better than the other.
To include your iPhoto library with your computer's backup, select and drag the iPhoto Library file located in the Pictures folder in your Home directory to the external hard drive.

  • Videos shot on my iPhone 3GS aren't getting imported into iPhoto

Videos I've shot on my iPhone 3GS aren't importing into iPhoto - but the photos are. Noticed this a few weeks ago, believe it occurred as a result of my migration from my old MBP to my new one in mid Jan of this year. Did a rebuild of iPhoto, killed the iPod Photo Cache, to no avail. I had been noticing an issue during the sync process, toward the end, I'd get some message that the "iPhone file 'iPhone' can't be found. Googled and saw that I should kill the iPod Photo cache and turn off "manually manage music and videos." This fixed the "file iPhone not found" issue. I killed all the photos and videos in my camera roll (none show up when I select iPhone in the iPhoto window - so a remaining corrupted photo isn't the issue) and then took a photo and video. The photo imports but not the video. Ideas?
Also, another question, If I go back to manually managing music and videos, then go back to the iPhoto tab in iTunes and select which albums from iPhoto to sync back to my iPhone, is it possible to sync videos (originally shot on my iPhone) back to my iPhone? I want to create an album in iPhoto titled "iPhone Videos."

Thanks for your reply, Graham. I actually solved it last night after 3 hours of fiddling with it. Cleared the photos out of my iPhone, cleaned up and reorganized my photos in iPhoto (deleted & recreated albums), deselected and reselected "manually manage music and videos" in iTunes, deleted iPod Photo Cache (again), rebuilt my iPhoto database and something out of this mix worked.
Something interesting happened when I opened iTunes (w/ iPhone docked) - it asked me to select my photo library (or something to that effect). When I selected "iPhoto Library" it gave me a dialog box saying this isn't the the library that was being synced (not the exact words, but close). I went ahead with it. The weird thing is that the library I selected is my only one - the one I've always used, so not sure what's up with that. Anyway, something worked. Photos and videos are all in the right place. Videos are also now syncing to iPhoto from my iPhone.

  • My video that was taken with a digital camera and imported into iPhoto plays back at a very fast speed. Any ideas why?

My video that was taken with a digital camera and imported into iPhoto plays back at a very fast speed. Any ideas why?

Is it a slow motion video? iPhoto does not understand the slow motion tags created by some cameras, eg.g. the iPhone back camera.

  • Every image on my iMac was imported into iPhoto!

Every image on my iMac was imported into iPhoto, even icons, templates, DVD covers and game images. There are even videos in my iPhotos library. He (who shall remain nameless!) was really only trying to help and clicked the wrong thing - obviously. What a mess! How do I get them back where they belong? (I'm still using iPhoto '09.)

Thanks, John. I read in another post that when you delete an image from iPhoto, it deletes the original from the computer too, not just the library. So, I was understandably nervous.
Understandably, yes. He who shall not be named may have chosen "Import to Library..." and selected a folder or even your entire hard disk's contents. Doing so would result in every readable image file being imported.
If that's what he did, I just did too and verified original files remained untouched after importing then subsequently deleting them from iPhoto. So, I have no explanation for whatever the other post indicated.
