Have you tried to reprocess the raw after importing? Select the new import and use the command
"Photos > Reprocess Originals"

Why don't my new Sony A7 RAW images open automatically in bridge after installing the new dng converter 8.3 in PS CC?

http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html What version of ACR do you use? It looks like for a Sony A7 you need Photoshop CS6 or Photoshop CC ACR 8.3 else you need to convert to DNG Adobe RAW format .

  • Sony NEX-5n Image Quality: Jaggies

    Hi,
it occured to me that I see a pretty hefty amount of jagged edges in slanted lines with Sony NEX-5n .arw raw files. Not in all, but in several. Now, when I open or convert such raw files with the Sony Image Data Converter or with Apple Aperture, there are no jaggies.
In LR, even when setting sharpness from default 25% all the way down to 0%, a sort of jaggie pattern still can be observed, allthoug very very minor.
This leads me to the "hope" that the just introduced capability for Sony NEX-5n files in LR 3.5 was kind of rushed and in the next version a better demosaicing algorithm will be provided.
At least the way it is now the image quality for NEX-5n files not 100% there where it should be expected from LR.

Thank you for your response. Oh, I'm glad that for once it's "you have to view the images at 100%" and not "don't pixelpeep, it's the print that counts" ;-)
Why yes, of course, it's the 100% view where it's most visible and what I would only refer to when commenting on image quality issues regarding possible problems.
And while I certainly can't pinpoint it the fact that until now I only encountered this problem on some images in LR only and not when looking at or converting the very same raw file with another software as the above mentioned I'm pretty sure it's not the camera which delivered the artifacts in the first time.
I have 2 examples which I converted to Jpg and saved at 100%.
First a red deer. Look closely in the neck fur: can you see the jaggies? You can access the 100% view via the loupe or icon: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/ihj4B27L6M5inWXt9yk5-w?feat=directlink
I have a comparison of a conversion between LR at default, LR at zero sharpening and the Sony Converter (which btw doesn't look that good to me, I prefer Aperture which I tested also and which also don't show Jaggies, regardless how high I set the sharpening into it). Also this image can and should be looked at 100% in Picasa: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/N58Xc0Ag7zBA_ymIvRDc2w?feat=directlink
The second example shows a cross bike. Look for the jaggies at the rear rim and seat stay area. Interestingly, those jaggies are clearly there but in the same time a little less pronounced then in LR itself.: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/5vpwZ1cZ8hpTVodn3siGxA?feat=directlink

  • Unable to see raw files in Finder and therefor can't import in aperture

I have loaded my raw files from the CF card (Canon 4DII) into a directory on the Mac. I go into Aperture, select import and select the directory where the files are and none of the raw files appear.
I go into iPhoto and they appear and I am able to import them into iPhoto.
I need to import the files into Aperture. How can I get Aperture to "see" the files in the finder directory?

    Hi New
It doesn't look like your camera is supported, which is why your raw files don't show up to import.
(Check the list here, for sure
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html)
    Mine isn't either.
I use DNG Converter from Adobe (Free) to convert my RAW files to DNG. The .DNG files ( not '.dng') are then readable by Aperture.
You can get the app here: (or just go to Adobe's website)
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16064
    What I do:
    Open DNG converter
Select the folder with the raw files
    Save in new location:
Select folder: and create a DNG folder inside the original folder with the RAW images)
    File Extension .DNG
    Convert.
When i import into Aperture, I choose the option to 'Store files in their original location' (which is an external drive foe me) ... this way i'm not getting duplicates and taking up more space.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful

  • Sony A77 Raw Files Won't Import Without Crashing

Ever since I upgraded to Mountain Lion on my 15" Macbook Pro Mid 2010, iPhoto crashes when I try to import. So far I have reinstalled Mac OS X 4 times and iLife (after deleting everything) once. This is from the crash log "*** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '-[__NSArrayI removeAllObjects]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x1eef4b70'." I have no idea how to fix this.
    My iPhoto crash log:

    My Aperture Crash log:
    http://pastebin.com/yP6BwQGN
Also everything on my computer is up-to-date.
Is anyone else having this problem with the Sony Alpha 77 (A77) and its Raw files?

    OT:  Sony DSLR talk.
Your response indicates you took my comment as a challenge to your decision.  It wasn't.  I own both.  The a900 has the biggest, brightest viewfinder ever put on a camera.  It's worth experiencing sometime.  Michael Reichman reports (discussing the Nikon D800/e):
    Optical Viewfinder
There has been so much attention paid to the latest generation of mirrorless cameras and their electronic viewfinders that it's worth mentioning that as good as they are, a full-frame optical viewfinder through a large glass prism is still the gold standard. I discussed this with an illustrative example in my recent Sony NEX-7 Six Months On Report.
But, having said that (as Seinfield was wont to say), this isn't the biggest and the brightest OVF on the market. A Sony A900, for example, is much brighter. Not that the D800/E is poor in this regard, it just isn't brilliant (literally and figuratively).

  • How can I import an Aperture Catalog into Lightroom and retain the RAW file as well as the files with the edits?

I have several catalogs in Aperture that I would like to import to Lightroom 5 and I want to retain the original RAW files as well as the files with the edits.  How can I do this?

Well, you can bring in the raw file (without edits), and you can bring in a rendered RGB file (e.g. jpeg or tiff) with edits baked in, but what you CAN'T do is bring in a raw file, with the non-destructive Aperture edits, and have Lr translate those Aperture edits into Lightroom edits.
Put another way: no raw converter/editor can understand the edits of any other raw converter/editor. So, you have to work with a rendered version, and/or re-edit from scratch in a new raw converter/editor.
PS - it would be feasible to write a rough translator which approximated raw edits in one world into edits in another, but such does not exist yet for Aperture -> Lightroom, that I know of.

  • Sony NEX-VG20 and FCPX not importing

Has anyone been able to get AVCHD from Sony NEX-VG20 to import to FCPX? I just got around to trying out the VG20 this morning and am trying to import the clips to FCPX and no luck. Trying to import from Camera it doesn't see recognize the camera or the SD card if plugged in to a reader. Trying to import the .mts as files results in an error saying unsupported file format.
    Any ideas?

Sorry, used the wrong terminology. I wasn't transcoding it, just rewrapping it. I never actually played in the timeline. The choppiness was coming from QT, I just tried Movist and playing it in the timeline and it's working fine.
    Thanks for all your help!

  • HT202441 How can I import my Aperture photo library into iMovie?

Please forgive my ignorance as I am new to the Mac world.  While attempting to create a slide show in iMovie, I click the camera icon to add a photo and only the iPhoto and photobooth libraries populate.  I can't seem to find where I can import my Aperture library. Any advice?

Your Aperture library should populate automatically. Mine always has.
However, since it is not working for you, there is a preferences file (plist) that controls all this. I would suggest that you move the com.Apple.iApps.plist preferences file to the trash according to the instructions here.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4061
There is probably no need to move the com.Apple.iMovieapp.plist file to the trash, but it coudn't hurt.

  • Raw images not Photo Streaming to Aperture

When I use the camera adapter to download from my SD card to my iPad both the raw and jpeg download. When the images are put onto Photo Stream only the jpeg makes it to Aperture on my iMac.

Photostream doesn't claim to work with all RAW images, the problem is that each manufacturer uses a proprietary RAW format, it would be difficult to keep up with all of them.

  • Using Image Capture to import to Aperture but pictures went disappeared

    Dear All,
I used Image Capture to import my pictures from iPad to my Aperture. This is my first time doing so. Normally I would just use Aperture to do the direct import.
The Image Capture saying all imports were successful, however, I could not find one single picture in Aperture. So I did it again, and it said all images were imported.
I restarted my computer to see whether the update was delayed, but I still could not find any picture.
Then I tried to import again by watching out the disk size, to see whether the import was actually taken place. And the outcome is positive, the available size of the disk is dropping (nothing else was running at the mean time).
So now I have this annoying thought keeps coming, where are all the images? And if I did import them 3 times, I want to delete them......

Your Aperture library is showing a wrong icon - have you changed it manually? The Finder is showing it as a plug-in, not as a photo library.
The icon should look like a fan of pictures, at least in aperture 3 - what is your Aperture version btw.?
You said, that the available disk space is being reduced, when you are importing, but does the size of your Aperture library increase, or is it staying at 46.82 GB?
If you did not change the icon of the library intentionally, your aperture library may be corrupted, and is not recognizable as a library. Try, if repairing the Aperture library with the First Aid Tools will fix this:
Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library: Aperture 3 User Manual
Make a backup of the library, before you try the First Aid options.
After repairing, look for a "recovered" project inside the library.
If your current Aperture library really does not import the photos, the images may be in a temporary folder or a different Aperture library.
To search for the image files outside Aperture, use the Finder's search panel.
Open a Finder window showing your HD and type "⌘F".
Add a search rule "Kind is Image"
And set "Arrange by" to "Date Added". This will show all newer imports at the end of the list.

  • How can I import my Aperture Library in iPhoto ?

    Hi guys,
I use Aperture 3 since 2 years but I would like to go back to iPhoto ('11) because I don't need all the options in Aperture...
I know that I can easily import photos from the Aperture library to iPhoto but the "normal" method lose all the faces...
Do you fnow an other solution to keep all datas in iPhoto (photos, faces and places) ?
    Thaks a lot, Ju

Aperture and iPhoto are entirely different applications that work in very different ways.
The only communication between the two is as follows:
Aperture is able to parse the iPhoto Library to allow it to import the contents while stacking the Originals and Modified versions, preserving metadata and so forth.
Aperture can share its Previews with the iLife apps, including iPhoto.
    That's it.
So, specifically, what interaction there is between the two is designed to facilitate migration from iPhoto to the more powerful app. After that, iPhoto has exactly the same relationship to the Aperture Library as, say, Pages or iMovie.
iPhoto has no knowledge of, and knows nothing of how the Aperture Library works. It cannot read the Aperture library.
If you want to revert to iPhoto:
    1. Export all your Masters
    2. Export all your Versions
You can write the metadata to the files on export - check out the Export presets. Note that you cannot export Faces. There is no convention for sharing Faces. The best you can do is use Faces as a basis for keywording.
Import them into iPhoto. Note that there is no way to associate the masters with the versions in iPhoto, so you'll have apparent duplicates.
    Regards
    TD

Having size problems with huge IPhoto library.  Would like to install Aperture and import from iPhoto library backup on Time Machine HD but would like to know before I purchase Aperature.
