Sort order on reports

I've encountered a number of report views where the sorting is obviously flawed. For example if I run the Modification Date Age Report, choose the Age Criteria of Month and Year, and try and sort on the Date - it sorts that field in a string sort, not numeric sort, so I get 1/2001, 1/2002, 1/2003, etc. instead of 1/2001, 2/2001, 3/2001.
Any way to cure or change the sort order behavior?

    Hi Ted Dinh!
    Your advice seemed to be such a good one... but I'm not having success
    I created an enhancement in form 'FILL_SORT_CONDITION_TABS' ( include: 'LRPPNTOC') and inserted this code inside it:
      SORTORDERS-FIELDNAME = 'ENAME'.
      SORTORDERS-POSITION = '26'.
      APPEND SORTORDERS.
    But when I click on button 'SORT ORDER'... I don't see any difference..
    Do you have some idea of what can be happening?

  • Sort order in an interactive report

    In APEX 4.1 I am trying to create an interactive report based on a table that's similar to the following:
    id - number
    colA - varchar2
    colB - varchar2
    colC - date
    colD - varchar2
    In the IR, I'd like to have break on column A so that the report displays as follows:
    colA
    id, colb, colB, colC, colD
    I want the sort order for column A to be based on the ID column, but I find that APEX displays it in alpha order based on the value for column A. I could include the value for ID in the break, but since it only has meaning inside the database, it leads to confusion among the users. I read some other posts where people have included the ID field and then used javascript to hide it in the report. I was wondering if there might be an alternative solution.

    AT USER-COMMAND.
    CASE SY-UCOMM.
    WHEN 'BACK'.
    IF SY-LSIND = 5.
    SY-LSIND = 1.
    ENDIF.
    ENDCASE.
    YOU CAN ASSIGN THE VALUE FOR SY-LSIND .

  • How do I retain the default 3 column sort order in a standard report

    I have a standard (not interactive) report of about 12 columns in which I set column 1 as the primary sort, column 2 as the second sort within that and column 3 as another sort within 1&2. I have also made other columns sortable by the user. However, once a sort is done by the user on one of the other columns, the default sort order never seems to come back, even if the application is closed. Is there something I need to set?

    Standard report sort columns are stored persistently as user preferences. The <tt>apex_util.remove_sort_preferences</tt> method can be used to remove them, resetting reports to the default sort order. However this is not a precision instrument: it removes the user's sort preferences for all reports...
    It is possible to remove the sort preference for individual reports using the <tt>apex_util.remove_preference</tt> method by reverse engineering the required sort preference name from the admin user preference report, but I wouldn't recommend it. I recently worked on an application where this had been done for one report, but we removed this "feature" as: (1) no one could remember why it had been done in the first place; (2) it was completely inconsistent with the behaviour of the other app reports; (3) the implementation was Byzantine (get non-obvious pref value and have page re-request itself with additional parameters) and lead to (4) poor page performance.
    Unless users are jumping up and down demanding this I'd stick to the status quo...

  • Report Queries are using different sort order

    Hello,
    my enviroment is
    Apex 3.1.2
    Apache Web Server
    OC4J Apache FOP
    i have 4 Source queries in one Report Query (shared components --> report queries)
    This 4 Source queries have to be executed in a specific order, for instance my data in
    DATA>
         <ROWSET1>
              <ROWSET1_ROW>
    <query1>AABBCC<\query2>
              <\ROWSET1_ROW>
    <ROWSET2>
              <ROWSET2_ROW>
    <query2>XXYYZZ<\query2>
              <\ROWSET2_ROW>
    content always the same rows.
    Apex is doing some strange things here. Sometimes my queries are executed in a different sequence.
    So the output is like
    DATA>
         <ROWSET1>
              <ROWSET1_ROW>
    <query2>XXYYZZ<\query2>
              <\ROWSET1_ROW>
    <ROWSET2>
              <ROWSET2_ROW>
    <query1>AABBCC<\query1>
              <\ROWSET2_ROW>
    How can i fix the sequence of my source queries??
    Any help is welcome!!
    bye
    Volker Strasser

    I found the solution.
    Anychart seems to have a problem with null values!
    The corrupted sorting only occured for a specific set of search criteria and a specific day. At this day some values have been null.
    I added a "nvl( [...], 0) for every value.
    No I get a correct sort order.

  • Crystal reports graph sort order

    I have 2 fields called fiscal year and fiscal month.
    Expected sort order - sample values:
    Fiscal year     Fiscal Month
    2011     5
    2011     5
    2011     6
    2011     7
    2011     8
    2011     9
    2011     10
    2011     11
    2011     12
    2012     1
    2012     2
    2012     3
    2012     4
    2012     5
    2012     5
    Current sort order- shows up incorrectly by default
    Fiscal Year  Fiscal Month
    2011          10
    2011          5
    2011          6
    2012         12
    I will be using these values in a graph and I created a new formula column called time PEriod that I will be in the
    x axis of my graph (mid({query.fiscal_mth_nbr1},1,3)) . the output of this formula is Oct,Nov, Dec,Jan,....Oct
    Without the year, but it still needs to be sorted in the first sample values order , since fiscal year starts in Jun and ends
    in July. We are now in fiscal year 2012 , fiscal month 6
    I tried sorting the value inside crystal reports by going to design view and applying sort. But it does not take the
    sort order. Can you please suggest the best way to keep the sort order. The data is coming from a universe and I even tried
    to sort the data from the universe by using order by, but the database would not let me use order by  that in a derived table within the universe.

    hello,
    the best way to get the correct dynamic sort is by using a two digit month in your conversion. for example
    totext({table.datefield}, 'yyyyMM')

  • SORT ORDER WITHIN GROUPS

    Post Author: Kara
    CA Forum: General
    Hi,
    I am using version 9. I have designed a report based on an access control database. It shows a person's time in and time out, then totals these hours. My report is grouped as follows:
    Department
    Date/Time
    Unique ID
    The main data of the report is shown in group footer 3 (Unique ID) and is displayed in numerical order. I need to change the sort order to display by last name, first name but because I have grouped by unique ID I can't seem to be able to do it!
    Any help gratefully received,
    Kara

    I use a similar report to track service personnel who also have a unique ID.  I have mine set up as follows - maybe this'll help.
    I used selection expert to specify the dates I want to see.
    Group 1 sorts on the unique ID. Instead of printing the unique ID field in the group header, I have Employee.EmpName.  They'll come out in their unique ID sort so the names might be a little out of order. If that's a problem you could put sort option on that field.
    Group 2 sorts by the Job ID, with the group header suppressed.
    Detail line has location, job id, date, time on, time off, total time in hours and if it's completed.
    Group 2 summarizes at date and amount at the job ID level.
    Group 1 summarizes at technician.
    I get very accurate reports to match against their hand written time cards.
    Perhaps if you re-arranged the grouping?

  • Specified Sort Order not working correctly in InfoView

    Hello All,
    We are running Crystal 2008 version 12.2.0.290 with Infoview 12.1.0 and are having a problem with specified sort orders working correctly.  In Crystal we are using the 'Chart Expert' to set the specified order of the percent bar chart.  It works just fine in Crystal 2008 and shows the stacked bar in the order we would expect.  We then save the report to InfoView and run the report on a schedule and it comes back in a completely different order. Not the order we specified in designing the report.  Any ideas on what is going on?
    Thanks in advance.

    We are experiencing a similar issue with the sort order in Infoview. We are using Crystal XI.5.8.26 and Infoview.
    The specified sort order works correctly in Crystal but in Infoview it comes back with a different order. Are there any suggestions on resolving this disparity?
    Thank you.

  • Alternate sort in interactive report

    Hi,
    I have several interactive reports where I need to enable sort on a column where the sort order is "custom" (I mean, not alphabetical nor numeric).
    In other words, I want to display one column, but sort using another one when I select a sort icon (asc or desc) on displayed column header.
    I'm pretty much sure there is no out-of-the-box solution to this, but any idea would be appreciated.
    I created a trigger on WWV_FLOW_WORKSHEET_RPTS to replace any sort on my display column with my sort column. It worked but I had lots of side effects as sort icon not displayed at the end of the column header for example.
    Thanks to share any idea you could have!

    Not the same as you imagine, but without any APEX-Tricks you could simply name your values a little different. THis could also be done in the query.
    e.g.
    select t.t_name, p.p_sort||'-'||p.p_display priority
    from task t, priority p
    where t.t_priority = p.p_sortI would always avoid doing stuff in the background, where the users might not understand directly, why it is the case.
    So you could also help the users to understand the correct sorting by choosing appropriate report column names
    select t.t_name, t.t_priority as priority, p.p_display priority_name
    from task t, priority p
    where t.t_priority = p.p_sortMost users will understand the difference when they sort by one or by the other column. And of cause the "better" sort order could be stored as default report settings.

  • Changing Sort order in iTunes

    I need to change the sort order in iTunes, pretty much like clicking on the browser header until the sort is "album by artist". Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks

    Took me a long time to get past the inconsistencies that Accessibility Inspector was revealing in iTunes. I finally ran a verify in Accessibility Verifier and discovered some inaccurate reporting in the Inspector. This works. Figured I would share it.
    If things are changed to "Album", it will not do more than re-sort that column. It will not change the Album by... setting. I hope I can figure that out.
    -- This will ensure that the artist column is sorted in ascending order
    tell application "System Events"
    tell process "iTunes"
    --read sort of grouping column
    set groupSort to (get value of attribute "AXSortDirection" of button "Artist" of group 1 of outline 1 of scroll area 1 of splitter group 1 of window 1)
    -- click button to select artist column if necessary
    if (groupSort = "AXUnknownSortDirection") then
    click button "Artist" of group 1 of outline 1 of scroll area 1 of splitter group 1 of window 1
    end if
    -- set to ascending if necessary
    if (groupSort = "AXDescendingSortDirection") then
    click button "Artist" of group 1 of outline 1 of scroll area 1 of splitter group 1 of window 1
    end if
    end tell
    end tell

  • Sort Order in Smart Playlist iTunes 9.1

    Now that I've upgraded to 9.1 I am finding that the sort order is gone wrong in Smart Playlists. What is happening is that artists are being sorted by their first name rather than by their last name regardless of what I have entered in Sort Artist field.
    However, the sort works as it should in the Library list.
    So, using Paul McCartney as an example; I have in the Artist field *Paul McCartney*, in the Sort Artist field I have *McCartney Paul*. When I view my music in the Library list he is sorted under M. But when I view my music in a Smart Playlist he is sorted under P.

    First give the list a "kick" by sorting by some other fields, closing and reopening iTunes, and then sorting again by Artist.
    Also look at the Sorting tab and make sure the tracks do not have data that could be interfering with the Sort Artist, namely Sort Album Artist.
    If neither of those helps, you have probably discovered a bug in 9.1, which you can report here:

  • Sort order issue in with Evaluate function ( Next Quarter measure)

    Hi All,
    I have report requirement where I have to show measures for a particular geography for previous, current and next quarters in a pivotal view.
    ---------------Previous Quarter| Current Quarter|     Next Quarter
    Geography
    ABC|xx|xx|xx
    PQR|xx|xx|xx
    XYZ|xx|xx|xx
    Next quarter values are displayed for other geography like
    ABC value is shown for XYZ and XYZ value is shown for PQR
    I have derived measure for pervious quarter using Time Series Function > Ago function,
    However the problem is with next quarter. I used following Evaluate Function to derive measure for next quarter.
    EVALUATE ('LEAD(%1,1) over (order by %2)' AS DOUBLE PRECISION , X, Y)
    Here X = Measure and Y = Level (Quarter)
    X is delta of two other measures A and B.
    X = (A- B)
    Thanks,

    Hi user10300020,
    That's a fairly common problem with months that happens regardless of database source.
    In the logical layer of OBIEE you can specify the sort order on the month name column. Just double click on the month name column and look for the option to set sort order based on a different column. I typically sort the month name based on the month number.
    Give that a shot and tell me if it works.

  • How to change the Sort Order?

    Hi,
    I want to do a sorting on 3 fields in the order say for Eg:Name,Number,Dt.On the report I have grouped by Number so by default it appears in the sort list(Asec),So my sort order on the report looks like Number,Name,Dt but as per the requriment I want to sort it first by Name, then by Number, and then by Dt.
    Is there a work around for this...

    Try to insert a summary on name field in group footer like maximum(,).
    Now go to report>group sort expert>select all based on maximum(,)
    Now the report sorts based Name field instead of number field
