Sorting compilations properly

Getting ready to transfer my library to my new iPod, but I can't get the few "compilation" ablums in my library to sort properly. I use the iTunes Browser normally, and have the option set to group compilations when browsing. Indeed I can use the browser to select the compilation in question, but the sorting is always by Artist, so the track sequencing is messed up in all cases. I've also tried using both the Artist and Album Artist metadata fields, but this doesn't seem to help either like it does in various Windows players, etc.
In short, does anyone know what's required to get the iTunes library to NOT break up compilations by artist, but to just keep the whole album together in the right track sequence without having to sort by track number (which messes up the entire library)?
Any help appreciated.

I have found a way round it but it is VERY long winded and I'm sure there is an easier way.
What you have to do is name the artist as the album title. Then in the track title you use the track name then a - then add the artist under the track title. Then the album will all be together and the search still works, when you choose the artist. Touble is you have to go through each track, which takes ages if you have a number of compilations.

    Hi,
    I have a rather strange problem. In one Flash movie (the one
    I am working on) my radio button wont compile properly - when
    compiled a white rectangle shows i the player, and it can be used
    for nothing. It doesnt matter where it is placed in the movie it is
    the same. But if I just make a test-movie and place a Radio Button
    on the stage, it appears/compile just as it should.
    Does somebody have a hint at what could be the problem?

  • Lightroom 5 will not sort images properly, either by file name or capture time.  How can I fix this issue?

    I am using Lightroom 5 with OSX 10.9.2 and the sorting feature is not working properly.  When I try to sort my library by file name or capture time, it does not sort properly.  The order of images is mixed and stays that way, even after reboot.  The file information is correct, the sorting is the only issue.  The library is approximately 6,000 images and I am also using a plug in with the Publishing Service feature.  Any help on how to fix this issue without losing my editing work done on the library would be appreciated.  Thanks!     Thanks! I'm trying to sort by capture time or file name, and neither sorts correctly.  file names 3450, 3451, etc. before files 0234, 0235, etc.  It makes no sense.  Same with capture time.  Times are accurate in meta data, but sorting is just wrong.  I'm using a ShootProof plug in that is only used for uploading files to the web. The issue is in the main library folder, so I'm not sure the plugin has anything to do with it.  Any sort I seem to choose: capture time ascending order, file name descending order, whatever, yields a different yet inaccurate sort.  The below sort is flagged, by file name ascending order.  This is the bottom of the list where it goes from file brigitte_terry_w6408... to brigitte_terry_film_0039... to brigitte_terry_w2825...  Regardless of the 'film' file, the w2825... files should be displayed above w6408.  Thanks for any help!

  • Help T_T - Program not compiling properly

    I'm trying to add a short animation to the source file for a
    game that was built by an outside studio. Unfortunately, I can't
    seem to get the program to compile correctly: I get tons of errors,
    graphics dont diplay properly, etc. I thought perhaps I had just
    messed something up with my codes and animations, but even if i try
    to compile the original unedited file as a control test, i get the
    same problems. I have all the external files, scripts, etc.
    None of our scripters are in-house, so there's no one I can
    ask about this. I know just enough actionscript to prevent Flash
    from exploding into a gooey mass (which is how I ended up getting
    tasked with this), but basically my knowledge of flash is limited
    to it as an animation program so I'm not really sure if theres some
    kind of settings I need to change, specifically need to export as
    an .exe (shouldn't be, since the game runs as a .swf), or what.
    I know i'm not providing a whole lot of information about the
    problem, but thats because I'm not really sure what info is
    relevant. Let me know if there's anything people need from me and
    I'll get it to you.

  • Sorting Compilation Albums etc

    I want to sort my music by artist, and view each album together.
    Where I have a compilation CD, or a CD with a guest artist, if I sort by Artist, I can't see all tracks from the album in the same place.
    So I painstakingly entered the "Album Artist" for each album and sorted by this field, as well as marking any such albums as "compilation", and selecting "group compilations when browsing".
    No good, my PJ Harvey/Thom Yorke track is listed at the bottom of my PJ Harvey albums and my compilation albums are sorted not by track number, but by artist.
    There HAS to be a way around this, surely?

    Have you realised that you can select a group of tracks and then use Get Info to edit them all togther, so entering an album artist and setting the compilation flag for a whole CD is not really such a chore.
    If you have "Group complilations when browsing checked", the compilation albums should come out right under "Compilations".

  • Sorting compilation albums

    I've downloaded several compilation CDs into the music library on my computer (I have not loaded the library to my ipod yet). They sort fine when I sort them by album, but when I sort them by genre, the compilation albums "break apart." The single artist albums all stay together no matter how I sort the library. I've made sure that all the compilation albums are designated as compilations, and I've even gone in and changed the album artist so that they're not all "various." The weird thing is that not all the compilation albums break apart, only some, and I can't see any difference between the ones that stick together and the ones that don't. Any ideas?

    In the iTunes preferences, on the General tab, is the setting for "Group Compilations when browsing" checked?
    If not, does checking this work as you would like?

  • ITunes doesn't sort albums properly.

    So like my iTunes doesn't sort my albums properly. I have the track numbers listed in Get Info, but when I click Sort by Album, it sorts the albums, then it sorts the songs inside the albums by the artist.
    Any help appreciated-

    I noticed this problem too - but only on albums with "Album artist" info.
    Once I removed that, everything sorted correctly by track number.
    However, I'd love to find a way to actually make it sort correctly.

  • I can't sort iTunes U lectures properly.  I can sort them properly on my laptop in iTunes, but when I transfer them to my iPhone, they are all jumbled up.  How can I fix this?

    I'm using my iPhone for listenting to lectures on iTunes U.  When I download lectures to my laptop, they are sometimes arranged non-sequentially.  I can fix this by renaming the files (e.g., with numbers in the titles), and then sorting by title.   However,  when I transfer the audio lectures to my iPhone, they are all sorted by "release date" (and frequently the release date is the same for each lecture), and this screws up the ordering.  This means that when I'm listening to the lectures, they are all out of order. 
    I can find no setting on the iPhone for changing the ordering of lectures in iTunes U, nor can I find a way of changing such things when the iPhone is plugged into my laptop.  For example, when I connect the iPhone to the laptop, and open iTunes, I select the device (i.e., the iPhone), look at the lectures in iTunes U, and iTunes will not let me change the column that sorts the files. 
    Any suggestions about how to correct this problem? 

    You can sort your library by adding a Sorting info in the File Info. Select a file in iTunes U, press cmd + i, choose Sorting Tab. For example add a Sort Name. For each file you have to put a value into that field, I did it with 01, 02, 03 .. 12. I do not know if this works if you select multiple files, but I did not try.
    The next time you sync your device, your files will be in order. It' ve tested it on an iPad2.
    If you ask me, there must be a better solution for that problem as the files have a track number saved in the info as well, and it is quite annoying to add the sorting order manually.

  • ITunes Not Sorting Music Properly

    Hello, I usually sort my music alphabetically by the artists' last name.  Recently, I am noticing that for some reason, iTunes is mixing up some songs in the wrong spot (ie. placing artists whose names start with W in the middle of the B's, etc.)  I have the latest version of iTunes and have tried re-entering the artists' name manually, but nothing seems to cure this problem.  Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas?  Thanks!!

  • Sorting/Compilation question

    I've looked through previous posts on this topic and don't see one addressed to this specific question: Why does iTunes (I've got 7.0.2) assign music to the Compliations folder that really isn't a compilation?
    I've been trying to build separate libraries of music -- one of aac files, for the iPod, and one of aiff files, for playing music through the computer -- and iTunes seems to make this a difficult task. Case in point: Pink Floyd's Ummagumma, a 2-disc release -- iTunes assigns disc 1 to iTunes Music > Pink Floyd > Ummagumma, but sticks disc 2 into iTunes Music > Compilations > Ummagumma.
    It's a rip of a CD I own, and imported as aiff and then converted to aac. I used the latter to load on to the iPod, but kept the larger files because I can hear the difference between compressed and non-compressed music in my home stereo. But come to look at how these are filed, I've got nearly three dozen albums under "Compilations," two-thirds of which are by a single artist or group. I can understand albums that would feature multiple artists, but why does iTunes separate out the others?

  • Most packages not compiling properly

    Hello Arch users!
    For some time now, I have been experiencing a weird issue. When trying to compile packages (mostly AUR packages),  I receive contradictory messages from the make command. Let me show you:
    checking if gcc accepts -dumpversion option... yes

    checking g++ version... 4.7.0
    configure: Excellent, the C, C++ and Fortran compilers are all GCC 4.7.0
    configure: GCC 4.0.0 is very buggy and can not build Sage.
    configure: Please use a gcc of at least 4.0.1.

    ERROR: You do not have all of the prerequisites needed

    And I have GCC 4.7 installed. I use multilib. Tell me if you need anything else.

    Yes, I do have multilib-devel installed.
    I noticed that another symptom has arised: Maple 13 keeps complaining that it does not have kernel connection. Related?
    Most packages I try to build complain that either gcc, intltool or some dev package is out-of-date. This is really weird...

  • [SOLVED] Kernels from the AUR not compiling properly

    Hiya everyone,
    I've got a bit of a problem, I think. Early this evening I tried downloading and making the Linux-lqx kernel from the AUR. Largely because why not.
    After the tarball downloaded, I ran tar -xvf on it like I always do, ran namcap on the PKGBUILD (it came up with a few superfluous errors), and ran makepkg -s on the PKGBUILD. It downloaded the relevant source, then immediately failed the PGP signature check. I was like, "Oh you AUR!" and ran makepkg -s --skippgpcheck. It did it's thing until it was applying patches, at which point it just failed at a certain point with "ERROR: A failure occured in prepare()", and aborted. I reported the error and the lines that preceded it in the package's page in the AUR.
    I got suspicious, and tried the Linux-lbre-xen kernel to test the building of it. Same issue: a prepare() error. Baffled, I thought maybe my building system was broken. I recompiled a few packages I had already built and installed successfully, and they were fine. I grabbed a few more tarballs from the AUR: adobe-air, I think jre, and something else. They all compiled great and installed just fine. Confused, I then tried building Linux-ck. Another prepare() error!
    Then I noticed the line that preceded the error, "patching file virt/kvm/kvm_main.c", then the error. Going back to lqx and libre-xen, I tried compiling them again, and sure enough "patching file virt/kvm/kvm_main.c" directly preceded the prepare() error.
    What's going on here? Strangely, every kernel I try from the AUR fails the PGP signature check, too. Just the kernels - everything else works as expected. Am I missing something?

  • Compilation/Sorting Question

    I would like to find a way of sorting compilation albums with various artists so that under the artists aren't displayed under artists, but only when I go to the compilation itself or scroll through albums. It isn't a crucial issue for me, but one more of style/practicality as I'd like to add some compilation/various artist albums, but don't like the way they clutter up my Artist menu with artists whom I only have 1 song by. So it would be easier if there was a way of hiding them from the artist menu and just accessing them through compilations/albums.

  • Classes without packages not accepted by ejbc compilation ?

    Hey guys ...
    I noticed something which I found unusual...I mite be missing something out here
    When ejbc generates the Bean IMPL class , it does not put any import statements
    in the generated java file but references all the classes in the Bean with their
    absolute path ...
    Now ..I have a 3rd-party jar which does not have certain classes in packages...and
    I reference these classes within my Session Bean...the session bean compiles properly
    ..but when ejbc happens and the Impl class gets generated with the absolute path
    and no imports...the compiler expects to find all these 3rd-party classes without
    packages within the current session bean package itself which it will not..and
    hence throws all sorts of "cannot resolve symbol" errors...
    Does this mean that within my EJB beans I can never reference classes without
    packages or is there something I am missing..?

    I agree with u that giving classes without package is not a good practise..but
    Itz got a history which believe it or not stems from another weblogic problem(related
    to webservices..)
    anywayz..that is another issue alltogether...
    I don't think this bug is fixed...coz I checked a WLS70 Impl and it is still generating
    the IMPL without the imports...
    But can u clarify..what u wud mean by "fixing the bug" ..does it mean that the
    Impl would start putting the imports..?
