Sorting named query result

hi, i am using an amendment method to sort named query results, it works fine for the queries that takes no parameters , but when it comes to a parameterized named query it doesn't work, any idea?

actually i have wrapped the named query in a session bean method, and i have simply dragged the method from the data control into my web page in a readonly table, i pass the parameter in a static manner in the page definition
3- the result is displayed, no error is showed but it's not ordered correctly

Sort order of results in UOW Conformed Query ??

We would like to know what is the expected behavior when a query with ascending ordering or descending ordering is run with UOW conformed.
We know for sure that SQL generated and submit to the database with ORDER BY CLAUSES (which get the data in the database and sorted properly)
However, with a confirm query, the database result will in turn, combine selected objects in the UNIT OF WORK.
Will the combined collection of object be sorted in the prescribed ordering ?
For example:
If in UOW we have some uncommitted CAT object CAT-9, and CAT- 5
In Database we return CAT-1, CAT-3, CAT-7 sorted in ascending order
Will toplink return after the UOW conformed query, a collection in the following order ?
CAT-1, CAT-3, CAT-5, CAT-7, CAT-9 ???

No, any new objects that conform to the query will be added to the end of the result set, so may not match the query's sort order.
If you need the conformed results to maintain ordering you can either,
- Sort the results in-memory after executing the query through Collections.sort(List).
- Use a TreeSet as the query resultCollectionClass to sort the query results.

TopLink doesn't sort data received using Named query

I'm trying to build a Tree table using a TopLink Named query in my application.
There are Id, Parent|_Id, Code and Name columns in the corresponding database table, where Id and Parent|_Id are linked together by Foreign key (typical tree). I used TopLink to describe this table in the Model part of my application. There I wrote a Named query, without using a query constructor (not Expression radio button, but SQL radio button). Here the text of query:
select * from regions a connect by prior a.Id = a.Parent_Id start
with a.Id is null order by a.Code
Then I created a Data control and tried to build a JSF page with data based on this query, as tree-table.
But I discovered the fact, that data under the same node on the same leaf level of the Tree are not sorted by code on the JSF page. For example, data may be situated as follows (Code - Name):

Toplink named query returns maximum 1413 results

Hi all.
As the heading states, I have a Toplink named query that returns 1413 results when it should return 3030. Is this configured somewhere? thanks in advance.

Go to your toplink map in the application navigator, select the descriptor in the structure pane and then click on the "Queries" tab in the editor pane. You should be able to configure your named query there.

Query result list sort order in the Service Manager Portal (2012).

Hi there,
I have a setup a user prompt for a request offering in which the values are based on a query results list. When the user prompt is displayed in the portal the order of the items presented based on my query results list is in reverse
alphabetical order (Z to A) instead of traditional A to Z. I can clicked the column header to toggle the sort order, however having to do this is slightly annoying.
My query results list is based on returning the Department field of a specific criteria of template AD user accounts (which are imported into the CMDB via the AD Connector).
Where and how is the sort order defined?

Hi Bryan,
After a quick test I can see the query results is in a descending order based on the first display column of the query results configuration. In the Request offering wizard I don't see an option for sorting. I don't think it is possible to configure this
out of the box.
But maybe it is possible from a Self Service Portal rendering point of view. Maybe there is a key for it in the settings.xml just like the maximum of query results:

Entity-Named Query Caching - Need live results from DB not Cached

I've developed an application EJB3 web application which uses Entity Beans and NamedQueries to retrieve my results.
Aswell as my main EJB3 web application I also have an external interface (Oracle Stored Procedure) which is updating data in my database tables. The problem is that the when the NamedQueries are called they only bring back "Cached" resultsets and not the live results that exists in the database at that time. If my Stored Procedure updates a value (or if I update a value via Toad for testing) the NamedQuery does not bring back these changes. From what I have read about NamedQueries it seems that they do actually query the live db but send back the cached values for performance reasons.
Is there a way to turn off caching of Query results?
If not is there another way to deal with this issue?
ps. I'm using Jdev 10.1.3.4 and appserver 10.1.3.1

Toplink named query and firstrow

In one of our projects we have a need to chunk records returned by a Toplink query.
For example if a query retrieves 1000 rows we need to chunk records in batches of a variable number.
Lets assume for this one request we need to chunk these 1000 rows in batches of 50 records. Is there a way to do this with Toplink?
I tried to create a named query and then am setting the first row to 0 and max rows to 20
And in a loop I am adding 20 to the value of the first row.
This does not work. The first time the query runs the first row = 0 and the max rows = 20 and I get 20 records back as I expected, but the next time the query runs after I change the value of firstrows to 21 and I do not get any records back even though the DB has a 1000 records.
Is it possible to do this sort of batching of the result set? I appreciate any pointers on how to solve this

MaxRows is independent of firstResult in TopLink; unless using a database that supports pagination, MaxRows is applied to the statement, and then firstresults used on the returned resultset to skip to the desired first row. So, the driver would return 20 rows, and then firstResult skips to row 20 - so nothing gets returned.
MaxRows and FirstResult are used in TopLink as the range you want to be returned. So both need to be incremented so that the difference between them is the max number of rows you want returned - MaxRows could be better described as a LastResult instead.

How to write named query if we want to use IN syntax in our sql statement?

I cannot find a suitable category about named query, so please move to appropriate place if there is any.
When we write named query, below statement is fine.

Now, my question is, how can I write this type of query when we want to use the IN sql syntax? As below statement CANNOT return correct results. Even I tried to put a pair of single quote [ ':input2' ], it won't help also.

Then you do it the same way as with regular jdbc/sql.
1. You start with a collection of values - call it collection A.
1. Create a for loop that dynamically creates the string using 'bind' variables (whatever you want to call the 'colon' entity in the above).
2. Call the createQuery method using the string that was created
3. Create a second loop that iterates over A and populates with setParameter.

Snowflake dimension: named query vs. database view

A test question features a Product table with a Product Size code; Product Size description is taken from ProductSize table. As far as I can tell, the question asks me to choose between (a) setting up a database view joining Product and ProductSize, and
(b) doing the join in a data-source-view named query. I don't see a clear winner. (My thinking is as follows. Yes, he view would speed up the processing, even if not materialized. On the other hand, with a small dataset, the performance gain would be
minor in absolute terms. Do I want to have an extra database object in the picture?) Yet the question's author does. Can anyone advise please?

According to your description, you want to know which is better, using named query in datasource view or using database view, right?
Based on my research, there is no performance differences between using named query in datasource view and using database view because they both result in SQL query being sent to the source system. Here is a blog which discuss this issue.
Consistency: If you already have logic in database views, I would continue to use them. As long as you know that you go to one spot to view/change the logic. Putting the logic in 2 different spots could lead to confusion.
Security Permissions: often you may not have permission to alter the source databases, in this case you have no choice but to setup named queries in the dsv.

Saving query results to a flat file

Hello Experts!
We have a very specific issue on our current project and I would like to know if any of you have ever done something similar. We are taking query results from BW (after complex calculations, some based on SY-DATE) and saving them to flat files to transfer to a SQL database structure on the Enterprise Portal. From here, the portal team renders the information into more "static" dashboards that include mouse over features and even limited drilldown (i.e. no matter where a user clicks the report always drills down on profit center)
There are many reasons why the model is set up as such (mostly training of executive level end users), and even though it doesn't mesh with the idea that BW could do this work on its own, we have to work with what we have.
We have come up with 3 possible ways to save this data to flat files and hopefully someone can tell us which might be the most effective.
1.) Information Broadcasting. If we broadcast XML files to the portal, will the portals team be able to read that data into a SQL database? Is there another way to use broadcasting to create and send a flat file to specific location?
2.) RSCRM_BAPI. This transaction seems to not support texts.
3.) Open Hub. In order to get the open hub to work, we first have to save all of our query results to direct write data store objects using APD. (calculations based on current date, for example, would require daily full loads to the underlying data providers otherwise.)
What is the best way to accomplish this? Is information broadcasting capable of doing this?

Do you have to use flat files to load the information to a SQL database? (if so maybe someone else has a suggestion on which way would be the best).
I try to stay away from flat file uploads as there is a lot of manual work involved. May I suggest setting up a connection to your SQL table in the DBCON table and then writing a small abap program to push data into the SQL database (which you can automate).
1) Use APD to push data into a table within BW.
2) Go to transaction SM30 > table DBCON and setup a new entry specifying the conncection parameters to your SQL database.
3) In SE38 Write an ABAP program along the folloing lines (assuming the connection you set in DBCON is named conn1:
data: con_name like dbcon-con_name
con_name = 'conn1'.
exec sql.
set connection :con_name
endexec.
****have a select statement which reads data from your table which the data is saved from the APD into an internal table**********
****loop on the internal table and have a SQL insert statement to insert the records into the SQL table as below******

How can I architect my data layer to yield query result pages to the application as SQL Server prepares them?

I tried to make the question as explicit as possible.
Refer to Sql Server Management Studio's Results view. Depending upon the structure of the execution plan, the Results pane may begin displaying results while the query is still executing. Can someone point me in a direction for architecting a
data layer (I am tech and framework agnostic for this task. Any solution will suffice) that will begin receiving pages of the set before SQL Server has completed the entire query?
The call from the data layer to SQL Server will obviously have to be asynchronous, but is there any additional ceremony that I need to be aware of when issuing OPTION (FAST x) to the query optimizer?

I would imagine you cannot ORDER BY and yield results as they are fetched because of the execution plan that would be generated. For the purposes of this post, please assume that sorting will be done purely client side

AVG calculation and syntax error while parsing a named query

I've to calcolate the average of polling results for each value column (5 value column in total). I want to use this single row result line for a bar graph.
I created a new named query in the EJB:

Thanks Shay, now I think syntax is correct for gain an average for each column:

Sorting people search results

Hi
We tried to sort the PeopleSearch Results by LastName and then by FirstName using the Query Designer.
In the preview everything works fine, buth when we save the web part settings and do a seearch on the people results page, the results are not sorted as excpected.

Wow! I was able to reproduce your problem. There seems to be no way to get the sorting to work correctly in the search results. I have been able to sort the results correctly using either a) Content by Search part or b) an App issuing a query through
the API.
I think you are going to have to replace the OOB people search page with a custom solution based on either the Content by Search part or an app.

Is it possible to execute sub-query filtererd by the pre-query-reslted lists ?
As far as I investigated, only way to do is that I combine two suject-areas by using set operations like "Union" or around.
But in this way, there is an impractical restriction to define these datatype and column in common. (namely, "Union" conditions)
I just want to query filtered by ex-query-results at anytime; for example, I extract a customer lists by one query and use various analysis in the group of customer list.
Please give me some advise.

First create a Request with your FilterQuerey. Secund Create a Request und create a Filter. Under Advanced you will find the path to the first Requst. Than you can select the columns.
