Sorting unstructured resume info into a template form

Hi
I need to write a java program that can read the various info in a resume e.g. "degree from XX university" which are apparently unstructured and place it into a structured template form.
This is supposed to work for all kinds of resumes.
Searched the web but they are mainly about XML.
I am thinking of writing program that speed up the process instead of going through the database first, although that may slow down the process.
What is the best way to use Java to do this? Any idea?
If it has to involve a database, any idea on the most efficient method to achieve my objective?

If I understand your situation, you want people to grab the form, fill it out, and they save a copy and the data also comes to you. This is all do-able, but so far it sounds like it could also be a web form, and when clicking the submit button both the submitter and you would get e-mails with the data. The advantage of the web form is that it's easy to evolve and change as necessary, and changes are instantly available.
You can have a date picker, a drop-down list, and a submit button all on the form, regardless of whether it's a PDF-based form or a web form.

Template/Form for Company Standard Resume

I have been tasked with creating a template for resumes for a staffing service. Is it possible to design how I want this template to look in Illustrator and then create a PDF with fields for the staff to fill in to create the resume? The look of the resume is very important so this isn't just text. The documents will be a large part of the marketing.
The company has employees on many platforms so I need something that is idiot proof and simple for them to drop their info into.

The problem there is that I don't have InDesign. I had Pagemaker as long as it existed. The last time I upgraded I had to choose a package that didn't include InDesign.
So, can I design it in Illustrator, take it into Acrobat and insert fields? Then can anyone with Reader fill it in or will they need the full blown program?
Sadly, this should be simple but because of the company that I am working with, it just isn't. I am creative, they are accountants. We don't speak the same language!

How to turn a resume into a template

I don't know if this is at all possible, but here's my question to you guys:
Is there a way I can format one of my personal resumes to make it a resume template withing Pages? You know the way that you can choose a pre-filled template for resumes on Pages and then it turns up with subsections that you can then write over? I want to make one of my general resumes into a template to work with so instead of: opening the general resume, editing it by erasing each section, and then saving a copy under a new name I can: open my OWN personal template, fill in over the pre-written sections, and then just save it?
This would be incredibly useful for me, as it would give me the immediate ability to look at some of my personal information and customize it, rather than open two documents side by side and editing one from the other, etc...

Need numbers file to insert info into form

I am trying to create a system to take a Numbers file with over 1000 names and a few other stats for each person, then add that into a clinic form (Pages) so we can have each person's info on the form to be able tp print personalized forms. We now have the form in Pages and the stats in Numbers and print blank forms, then use stickers to put the info onto each clinic form. There has to be a better way!

Embedding a report designer query into a template - errors out

In a template i want to include the report designer query, with the web item type - report, when i drag the report item into the template and try to edit it, it takes me to the report designer, there I'm able to open my report designer query - then when i go to - menu - transfer to web apllication designer - it takes me back to WAD but errors out saying it encountered a problem. Did anyone come across this issue? And how did you overcoem this? Any help or pointer would be appreciated and rewarded.

Sorting photos after export into date tree

I recently migrated from Linux to OS X and I have one problem: I want to sort my pictures and movies (from cameras and ipad) using the exif info into a datetree with the form:
2013/08/
(YYYY/MM)
and the file name cotaining the date and time with second the picture was taken:
2013.08.14_13.15.59_THE.ORIGINAL.FILENAME.ORIGINALEXTENSION
(YYYY.MM.DD_hh.mm.ss_ORIGINALFILENAME.ORIGINALEXTENSION)
This was easily possinble under Linux, but I can't find any program which is doing this under OS X. Free solutions are prefered, but if it is reasonably priced, it is OK as well.
I am not a prodfessional photographer, so I can't justify an expensive tool for this.
Any suggestions?
After the initial I would use iPhoto as a referenced photo manager and not copy the images into the library.

I see the problems, but I don't see any other way to share the pictures with non-OS X users. If you have any ideas, I will gladly try them out. Regular exports do not sound to appealing to me.
In addition, I am not clear what happens when I change the quality setting for jpeg to highest, and the original image is in e.g. normal - the conversion can not result in a better photo then the original, as the information is already lost. I therefore assume, that, when I convert it back to the original quality setting, I will again have lost information - so this export is lossy, even when I select the highest quality. What I would like to have is "original plus the metadata".
2. Date and Time is pretty much the most limited way of organising photos that there is. Once you get past a couple of thousand images, unless you have a remarkable memory indeed, you might as well use random number strings. It tells you nothing about the content of the photo, and I don't know of anyone who wants a photo - any photo - taken at 1pm in July 6th 1997, but I do know a lot of folks who want their favourite photo of their dog, or car or whatever.
Agreed - but this is a matter of preference. To find the dog, I have then e.g. iPhoto.
3. You're thinking in terms of a file based workflow. iPhoto is a data based workflow. It replaces the finder for everything you need to do with your photos. Everything. Simply, if you use iPhoto you never interact with your images except with or via iPhoto. That sounds pretty limiting but it's not, as iPhoto is integrated throughout the OS. The best example I can suggest for comparison is the Contacts (or AddressBook). All of your addresses stored in one place, available to every app on your Mac for whatever use you might have. Well that's iPhoto - all your photos stored in one place, available to every app on your Mac for whatever use you might have. Where you store the files really doesn't matter - you never interact with them anyway.
You'll only cause yourself issues and confusion. Again, think of having your Contacts in the address book, and also in a text file. Edit the text file and the Contacts app is out of date, and vice versa.
If you're concerned that you might want to migrate away from iPhoto at some point then the Export command means you can get put anything you put in, in a many different formats.

I read the links, and I see the difference between data and file based workflow, but I am thinking about keeping the quality of the photos AND to keep, if possible, the metadata. Also, sharing (at the maximum quality) has to be easy, for which I don't see an easy solution when using the data based approach.
I think I have to go with your statement - "If you really feel that you need to directly access the files for some purpose, then the best option is to not use iPhoto." - yes, I do feel the need as I don't se another way.
Under Linux I was using digikam, and I would argue, it also uses the data approach, but stores the photos in an accessible file structure, the metadata in a database, but it can written to the file itself or to sidecar files.
So I don't think that the data based approach itself is problematic, but that the solution of iPhoto to use an internal incomprehensive folder structure to store the images is the problem - but this is a different question.
Additional question: When I use a referenced mode, iPhoto really does not asks me if I delete a photo if I want to delete it from the HDD as well (mentioned in one thread you referenced)?

How do I put data into a template using the Labview report generation toolkit for Microsoft Office?

I am running Lookout 5.0 and have recently purchased the Labview Report Generation Toolkit for Microsoft Office to create reports from my Lookout logged data. Since I have never used Labview I am having my problems. I tried following the tutorials but they do not seem to be examples of what I want to do.
I log rainfall totals (1 spreadsheet)in Lookout from 40 different sites in 5 minute increments. I copy these totals and paste them into another spreadsheet which sums them up to give me hourly totals and then paste those totals into a spreadsheet for distribution.
In Labview I create a new report and use the distribution sheet as my template, but how do I complete
the steps of loading the raw 5 minute data into labview and then paste it into the hourly total spreadsheet and then transfer those totals into the distribution template?
I have been trying to figure this out for over a week, and I am getting nowhere.
Any response would be appreciated.

Lookout saves the files in .csv form which can be opened in Excel. I did make some progress by using the "append table to report" vi which allowed me to put values into an array and then those values were entered into my template on my report vi.
Where I am stuck now is I want to be able to put values into my template from a .csv file, not from an array I have to manually put numbers in.
Once those values are in my template I want to pull summed values from the template and place them into a final excel file for printing.
I have attached examples of the files I am working with to help you better understand what I am trying to do.

Using importdata to import xml data into dynamic PDF form

Hi again,
Me and my colleagues have a problem using the importData service to import some xml data into an empty PDF form (represented as an XFA input variable).
In the server log I get the error that Only XDP data is supported for XFA forms, however I only have the xml data and not the entire xdp available.
Is this really not possible to to (like importing xml data to a form is possible in the Designer when creating forms).

My scenario is simple, I have one (call it a template xdp/PDF form) and lots of data in xml files (around 1000), that I need to import into the template. Can I sync Address Book and iCal to put contact info into iCal?

I use Address Book as a contact/customer list and use iCal to prepare my schedule for work. I usually type in the name of the customer I want to see in iCal. Is there anyway to import or drag names out of Address Book into iCal so the location & contact info will be included? I don't want to invite the customer. I just want to input the info into iCal so I don't have retype a name that is already in my Address Book.
If I have customer "xxx" in Adress Book and I am planning on visiting this customer tomorrow. Is there anyway for me to transfer/import this info to iCal without physically typing "xxx"? When I look at my appointment I would love to see the contact info for "xxx" in iCal when I click on individual appointments.

You can link to the Address Book entry with a URL. See my script +Link to Address Book+ on this page http://www.nhoj.co.uk/applescripts/ which creates a link from the currently selected person in Address Book. These can then be added to the URL field in iCal or the notes field if you have more than one per event.

Those requirements are go way beyond what PDF forms can do and are meant for, some of them would require involving other programs or are mutually exclusive and contradictory. You are wasting your time even thinking about doing this as an "offline" PDF form. Simply sign up for an online forms/ survey service like FormsCentral or Surveymonkey.

Hey guys, just wondering how to turn my PDF file into a template, the PDF is a fillable form, with fields and scripts, is it possible to turn this into a template so when i click on it, it opens up a copy of the original file so we can fill it out and save it somewhere else and keep the original file where it was and un-filled (template)?
If i have to do this on LiveCycle or another program, let me know.
