Sound input (line-in) not working after upgrade to Leopard

I have upgraded my iMac Intel Core 2 Duo (white plastic frame version) to Leopard on Friday when it released. The upgrade process went very well with one MAJOR exception: Audio input through "Line-in" connection does not work anymore. I have tried everything that comes to mind so far from rebooting, to unplugging and replugging, to checking back all system settings, etc. Nothing works. At this point, I can't use my headset anymore for making calls with Skype or using voice chat in games. I would seriously need some help as I refuse to have paid $129 only to have Apple themselves break something in their products.
For this reason, I have to currently consider Leopard a failure. Reason being, in MS Windows or Linux, there always is a way around to make things work... I can't find anything at all with this release of the OS.

The OP reported their line-in input "broke" after upgrading to Leopard, however my MBP stopped recognising input from the mic on my headset a few weeks ago when I was still running Tiger. This might possibly indicate that the change in OS X's handling of the line-in input was present in a Tiger update, but I can't remember the exact correlation between the dates of my last update and this problem. All the same, I'm pretty annoyed that a headset that worked perfectly for several months is now suddenly unusable without a USB adapter.
Prior to stumbling across this thread, I visited two Apple stores, who both tested with an output from an iPod and told me that the input was working fine, leading me to buy a brand-new headset (even though I'd tested other working headsets without success) which, naturally, produced the same results.
Seems to me that the hardware is fully capable of processing a mic input through the line-in port, as it's never had any problems with any unpowered source until recently, so Apple must surely be able to undo the change they made?

  • Input ready queries not working after upgrading to 7.4

    Hello Gurus,
for my application I have put the queries in WAD. Everything was working till 7.2. After upgrading to 7.4 I recieve error for ready to input queries. Rest of the queries are fine. Even in Analyzer I dont get the option to save the Values for input queries.
I couldn't find any document on this. Do you have any Idea why is the behaviour toward Input ready query changed after upgrade?
    Thanks in adv.

Yeah, that's happened to me a bunch, it's a pain the the arse. Delete your shortcut and create a new one.
To do this navigate to the c:\program files\iTunes folder (assuming you've selected the default location) and find the iTunes.exe file using the right mouse button right click on it and you should get a menu with an option to create a shortcut. Once the shortcut is created you can drag it and drop it wherever you need, start menu, desktop or quick launch bar.

  • Mic not working after upgrading to Leopard

Well I had an external mic on my iMac working fine with Tiger. I buy Leopard and upgrade... and all of a sudden it does not work anymore.
Now I know that iMacs have a line in input and not a mic input, but it worked with Tiger so why should it not work with Leopard?

I don't have solutions per se, but I can confirm the problem and report that AppleCare claimed to be unaware of it as of early this week; I was alleged to be the first to call in. (I'm special, but not that special.)
I went to Level 2 tech support, and during the long wait I thought I had succeeded in getting Mail to work by using my .Mac SMTP for both my .Mac and regular ISP accounts. I relayed that work around and left the call. (The Level 2 techie was stumped as well.) But the solution was short-lived.
To be clear, the problem is intermittent failure (or arguably, intermittent success) using Mail, for no clear reason. Performance of the outgoing mail server is much worse than the incoming mail server. The very fact that it is intermittent makes diagnosis very hard, because many fixes you try seem to work -- until they don't.
First, the problem is on both my MacBook and my iMac and appeared only after installing Leopard. Thus, it is not machine-specific. AppleCare tried to blame my iMac installation for the problem until I demonstrated that it was common to both. Level 1 tech support even suggested that there was something I did wrong on both the Macbook and iMac. Then they blamed my ISP.
Second, I have MS Entourage on both computers but don't use it, so I fired it up and Entourage works fine. So now I have proof that the problem lies in the Mail program or its interface with Leopard.
Third, my lack of success with AppleCare means they have no clue. I'm not pestering them again because it takes a lot of time and they want users to do very burdensome things, like archive and reinstall, just because it's on their checklist.
Not for me. Until Apple fixes this huge, huge bug, I'm just using Entourage for mail.

  • Canon S750 printer not working after upgrading to Leopard

Leopard is brilliant, and everything works after I upgraded from Tiger except... my Canon S750 printer gives error messages and fails to print. This is VERY annoying. I can't seem to find an S750 driver for OS X 10.5 on Canon's web site. So, what to do next? Just wait, and keep logging on to Canon's web site in the hope that, one day, the driver will be there? I can't find any official statement from Canon as to what they're up to. Are they currently working on drivers for Leopard? Do they have any projected "release dates"? Are they at all interested, or would they prefer to sell me another printer perhaps? Any information on what I should do now will be gratefully received. Thanks.

UPDATE... my S750 printer has suddenly started to print OK! This is rather bizarre, since I've not re-booted, haven't un-installed/re-installed the printer. End of topic!

  • Gmail POP will not work after upgrade to Leopard (Mail 3.5)

    Hi,
I recently upgraded to Leopard and was previoulsy using Gmail for my POP service, whuch worked fine.
I was a little disappointed that the upgrade disabled by HTTP app that allowed me to access my Hotmail, but no big.
The big deal here is tht I have tried everything listed on Gmail's troubleshooting page for POP accounts and I can't get Mail to connect to the smtp nor pop server. I tried deleting recreting the account, verified settings with what's listed, opening the firewall, testing the telnet connection (nothiing happened, so I guess that's good?).
I sent this issue to Gmail but all I got back was a redirect to the Troubleshooting page and an .exe tool that I can't use.
Anyone else out there that may have this problem or have a clue as to what I could be missing?
I was also loged in to Gmail while setting up account so I know I can access the mail outside of POP.
    Thanks for reading!!!

After spending a couple of hours researching this the solution that worked perfectly for me was to delete all plist files.
    1. Start with Finder/Macintosh HD/Mail/ look for the plist file there and delete it.
    2. Go back to Finder, ctrl click and select Go to Folder
    3. paste this: ~/Library/Mail/
    4. Find all plist files and delete.
If you feel more comfortable, you may save them someplace as a backup.
After deleting all plist files related to Mail, restart your PC. If you don't it may not work.
Either prior to doing this or after, be sure your settings are correct for gmail.
Once I did this, all of my incoming and outgoing messages loaded properly and everything worked perfectly.
If you need additional assistance feel free to leave a message.

  • Spotlight and iCal search not working after upgrade to Leopard

I recently upgraded my MBP to Leopard (10.5.7), and everything seemed fine. Except search in iCal wasn't working. I looked in forums and found a suggestion - renaming Calendar Cache in Home>>Library>>Calendars, then restarting iCal. iCal rebuilt the Calendar Cache (or looked like it was, progress bar and all), but search still wasn't working, failing to bring up events I was looking right at.
Then I tried to use Spotlight, and it didn't seem to be working either. I tried searching for Safari, and after a brief pause, Spotlight said "No Result Found." I confirmed Safari is in fact still on my MBP and working (opened from applications folder). After some more hunting on forums, I found a thread talking about how to force Spotlight to re-index, figuring that was at least Spotlight's problem. Here's the thread - http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=381832
I tried what it suggested, using the command line in Terminal, but Terminal just spat back "No Index." So now I'm stumped. Any ideas? I've already tried rebooting, to no effect, though I'll try it again tonight.

Well, thanks again for all the suggestions, but I sort of stumbled on the fix - which turned out to be upgrading MacFUSE. I had forgotten I installed that so I could read/write to my BootCamp Windows partition under Tiger, and a couple times when I would restart my computer I'd get an error message about MacFUSE (ironically, the error claimed my OS was out of date, but it was really MacFUSE that was out of date).
After I updated to the latest version of MacFUSE and restarted, Spotlight started indexing. Now it works just fine. Not sure if this is a known issue, but it seems that was most likely the problem.
Now I just have to figure out why the search feature in Calendar doesn't work... already tried rebuilding the Calendar Cache multiple times. Any ideas for that one?

  • Another User with Mail Not Working After Upgrade to Leopard

I started my own thread because the other person with the same issue was able to resolve his by moving the two files in the Mail library. Well, they don't exist in mine. So I can't move them.
When I try to open mail, I get nothing. I have to manually open a message viewer window. When I do, there are no messages, I can't send or receive. The Connection Doctor shows that I am connected to the internet.
When I try to quit mail, I can't - I have to force quit.
I've tried the suggestions that were here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2537
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2486
    but so far no luck.
    Ideas?

Create a new user account. Log out of your account and log into the new account. Open Mail and configure it for you mail server. If all is working properly, then you have some serious corruption of something in your normal user account. This may be caused by any number of things such as upgrading a dysfunctional OS X. You might then consider backing up your personal files and data, then erasing the hard drive and installing Leopard from scratch. Or you could try the following:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Mail not working after upgrade to Leopard

After the guy at the applestore assuring me that mail will not be affected by upgrading, low and behold I now have lost all emails and am unable to send or receive emails.
When I open mail it leaves the interface closed, I need to go to MAIL > NEW VIEWER WINDOW. Ant even then it is blank.
Weirdly I still have all the folders in the left menu, just that they are all empty.
I can't sync to MobileMe or my POP account.
I can't afford to lose all that info, if anyone has an idea I would be mega grateful!!!

    just solved the problem...
    had to delete in user-library-pref-com.apple.mail.plist
    then restart mail

  • Internal speakers not working after upgrading to Maverics

internal speakers not working after upgrading to Maverics

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Run Software Update and make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. If you've installed a software equalizer called "Boom" or anything similar, update or delete it and restart.
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select the Output tab. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them. Move the Volume sliders all the way to the right.
    7. If a red light is coming from the audio-out port, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    14. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

Iphone 4 Home button not working after upgrade to OS 4.3.5.Please help!!!!!!!!

It seems that settings of mail accounts have something to do with it. I've delete my gmail account and am now using Microsoft Exchange. It seems better, yet not perfect. The issue is definitely due to OS 4.3.1
Apple answer is - no answer. It is a shame that the quality of their products, in terms of design and concept, is not match by a care for customers. It is not normal that I, as a customer, have to spend hours reading Apple Discussions forum to try to understand what the problem is. A little more respect for a customer that spend big $$$ buying their products wouldn't hurt.

my ipohone 4 hotspot not working after upgrading to ios7.1 but my some friends having iphone 4s its works fine and those having iphone 4 it's not working although we all have same operator and same operating system (i.e ios 7.1).I think this is problem only  with iphone 4 users with ios 7.1 , so apple plz fix it in ur next update.

    You don't like the answer?
Again it's not a bug, use a supported carrier if you want Personal Hotspot.
Read the list one more time, if carrier is not on the list, IOS7.1 patch the loophole.

  • Web Service is not working after Upgrade SAP EHP6

    Hi ,
Recently we upgraded SAP ECC 6.0 to EHP 6.
We have a custom web service which is consumed in  .NET Application to get the Sold To from Sales Order.
the service is working perfectly before upgrade and it is not working after upgrade to EHP6.
When I tested the Service in WS Navigator in SAP, it is working fine.
We raised a message to SAP and SAP analyze the Traces and confirm that the HTTP Request Header coming from .NET application is not having User ID and Password , so it is throwing exception from SAP as unauthorized.
But in service it is configuration as basic authentication and log on using user id and password and .NET application is calling service by passing user ID & Password.
Customer is not happy as it is working before Upgrade and SAP confirmed every thing fine in SAP, but the service is not working.
    we did the below steps.
    Regenerated the configuration
    Re imported the Certificates
    Activated the service in SICF.
Please let me know if anybody have same problem or if any steps we are  missing.
    thanks.
    Uma

after changing the .NET Application , Service is working fine.

What is "wrong" with your Apple ID?
    Try the following:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
