Sound problems with the kt6 delta

Hi all,
I capture a lot of streaming audio from the web. I use cool edit pro to record the audio and then save it as a mp3 file. I have noticed recently that my sound seems to be dropping from time to time. For a while the sound level is great and then drops down very low before coming back up again.
Has anyone had this sort of problem?

It does get quite warm on mine.
You'd think with all of the integrated stuff in it the thing should be cooking.
I've seen on a Soyo KT600 Dragon board it had heatsinks galore a tiny guy on the nic chip, and also one on the southbridge along with the mosfets, and a few other places.

I would suggest going ahead with a cleansweep and reinstall of the card. Here are instructions on how to cleansweep and reinstall your sound card:

[VIA] Problems with MSI KT6 Delta

AMD XP 2000+
256 MB DDR 400
GeForce FX5200 128 MB DDR
I installed WinXP+SP1 and VIA4in1 v4.55 with NVIDIA 66.93 drivers. The screen fades out and in less than a second the picture shows up again.
Note: What should appear in device manager in section "System devices" after installing VIA4in1 v4.55?
I tried: changing video card, RAM memory, installing WinXP+SP2 (worse results!)

The system reports no errors nor conflicts in Device Manager window. This problem appeared when I did an upgrade from WinXP SP1 to SP2. I use Fedora Core on the same computer with NVIDIA drivers installed and there were no problems. I tried to change the monitor but it was the same. I think I managed to solve the problem by installing WinXP SP1 and an older NVIDIA driver (version 4.5.2.3) and VIA 4in1 pack 4.55. Everything runs smooth for now.

Sound problems with the Audig

Did your old soundcard sound better than your new one? I purchased a new computer with the SoundBlaster Audigy 4 soundcard. It doesn't sound as good as my old system with a SoundBlaster Li've 5. soundcard. I'm using the same speakers so that can't be it. Just about everything I play sounds like they're singing in a hole. I have changed settings, disabled the bass enhancement, updated drivers, but still I can't fix it. I'm using Windows XP Professional SP2. I was using Windows XP Professional SP with my old system. Could that have been the difference or is it the sound card? I wish I had my old soundcard back. I have a lot of old 45's and LP's that I am trying to record onto cd but I don't want to have to edit each one "with a fine tooth comb" before I burn them to cd. Any suggestions?

Have you disabled EAX effects and CMSS processing?
For recording LP's, I suggest you to use software that supports ASIO or WDM/KS driver modes (these modes gives you the best signal level and 'unmodified' data).
For best quality you can get from Audigy 4, record to stereo wav files using 24-bit/96 kHz 'resolution' (one side (or both sides) of the LP into one wav file) and then, before transfering to CDs, dither/SRC down to CD quality (6-bit/44. kHz) using Voxengo r8brain free. You can split those big files (LP sides A/B or A+B) into tracks w/ most burning software as like w/ Nero (or split using CT WaveStudio). You propably can also add CD-TEXT w/ most present burning software (artist/track name).
<i>IMO, you did get a wrong card for ripping those LP's. From Creative consumer cards, any 'original' X-Fi could have been better and from Creative E-MU brand either 0404 (~$99) or 22M (~$00-$55) would have been even better than X-Fi cards.</i>

Sound problems with the cd player

Hello All,
I would like to play a music cd. All the gear works in Debian so we know the hardware is ok.
The first issue is that I am told by "cd player" that I do not seem to have permission to open /dev/cdrom. I am in the audio group as well as the optical and wheel groups.
The real problem it seems to me is that /dev/cdrom is owned by root and the group is also root even though it is just a pointer to /dev/hdc which has a group set to "optical."
Issue number two is that if root plays the "cd player" in the menu he can get it started but the player claims a known good music cd is "blank."
This is all from a fresh install of "noodle." (0.7.1) and I use xfce4. I followed every step in the wiki.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I got the stock cd player to work finally, but I am not sure what did it, as I had moved on to other things and just tried it once more this morning when it started working. It is possible that something happened in the re-boot.

One quick question, however. How do you get xmms to play a cd? All I get is a playlist editor. I just want to pop a cd in the drive and hear music.

Sound problems with Satellite A100 (PSAA8)

I am continually having sound problems with the laptop. Whilst I hear the windows start up noise and beeps, I cannot hear any sound from things like CDs, iTunes, Media Player - in fact an error message will always come up. In Media Player the error message "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device......." comes up. I have a the standard pre-installed Realtek sound thing on my laptop. I have tried downloading a newer driver from the Toshiba support centre, but I don't know what to do with the zip file. Also in Control Panel, Sounds, everything is greyed-out.
Hope someone can help cos I am going nuts with this :-)

I have downloaded the Realtek sound driver from the Tosh page and unzipped it.
(I have chosen the driver for Vista!!! I suppose you use Vista???)
There is a folder called sound. Access this folder and run Setup.exe
But before you will start this procedure you could access the device manager (control panel -> computer -> device manager) and choose sound, video, and game controller. There you have to mark realtek AC and click on uninstall and reboot the unit.
After this sound driver removing you should start the new driver installation described above. (setup.exe)

They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.

Problems with the iPod Touch (sound)

I was wondering (more like desperately hoping) someone can help me with my problem.
I've had my iPod touch for almost 2 years now but lately I've been getting problems with the sound.
When I bought the iPod, I bought some decent sennheiser plug-in earbuds too, because I find the one's delivered with the ipod pretty low quality.
For over a year, I loved my ipod touch (it's my second one) but one day, for some unknown reason, my sound was at not even half of the usual volume.
I've checked the settings but cannot find the problem, so I tested the ipod ears delivered with the ipod since they were new, same story (the left earbud was slightly louder than the right for some time but not too long, then they both gone quiet).
I've checked on the internet before and someone said "try jailbraking your ipod, because that sometimes helps, so I did but no effect.
So I set it back to fabric settings and went to a switch store, they listened and found it odd too so they send it in because it was still under guarantee.
Now (today), I've gotten a completely new ipod touch 16 Gb. So, happy as I was, I went home to put my music on it, and what happens? The sound is slightly louder than the previous one but still WAY too quiet! If I'm on the bus, its no use listening to it because I cant understand the lyrics cause of the background noizes the bus makes... Its p*¨ssing me off bigtime that its still way too quiet, anyone got any ideas how to fix it?
Please don't send useless reply's like get ya ears checked because Im in the army and they get checked regularly and they are perfectly fine!
Maybe with someone knows some other program or app that I can use so I can fix this very irritating problem?
I have had 6 iPods before, from the first one that came out to the ipod touch 16 Gb, and its only with this one that Ive started having problems about a year ago.
Plus my girlfriend has an ipod too (not a touch) and on her ipod, everything works fine, my earbuds included :s

Omg, I've put over 2 hours of work in it to reinstall other versions of itunes, ios n such to then find out that they DID NOT test my ipod and sennheiser earbuds that I gave in along with my busted itouch.... They told me they work fine... Now I took my girlfriends earbuds cause nothing worked, turned out they are both broken and now I need to go back to the store for new ones, dont think that the previous itouch wasnt busted then after all cause it was, tried with 10 different sets of earbuds
anyway Im a happy man again with a decent itouch and good earbuds, that I can lend from me girlfriend...

When you have kernel panics, the pertinent information is in the panic report.

Hi, i bougth my mac a couple of days ago and it works just perfect.
I had a little problem with the audio and i want to know if its normal or i should be worried about it.
I was watching a episode of a serie and the audio works fine. Then I started to watch another episode and i wasn't hearing anything. The volume was almost on max. i though it was a problem with the webpage but when i went to youtube the audio wasn't working either. i closed google chrome and opened it again, the sound works fine again. But still there was a problem, the little noise that the Mac make when you change the volume wasn't working, in system preference the box "Play Feedback When Volume is Changed" was checked, it just stop working suddenly. I restarted my Mac and now everything is perfect.
im a little worried right know cause ive been using this mac for two days, i think this isnt supossed to happen. i didnt change any configuration before this happened. If this is in a couple of days, whats going to happen in a couple of months or years?

Call Apple Care. You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your computer with no questions asked.
Take FULL advantage of your warranty. Posting on a message board should be done as a last resort and if you are out of warranty or Apple Care has expired.

Problems with the sound in Windows

Hey everybody, hoping someone can help.
I'm working with Cubase in Windows with my mac and i have problems with the sound, but not all the time.
I have an M-Audio card connected and while i'm playing something in Cubase, the sound makes a digital distortion just for 10 seconds, and then again sounds perfect and then again comes back the digital crash, somekind of loop. So i was thinking that maybe was a problem with the drivers of my M-Audio card, but then i was playing a song in Winnamp with the built-in speakers and happens exactly the same, so i think it's a problem with the Mac drivers for Windows, i use the same audio card in MacOsX and i don't have problems
I have tried various display settings. I have no idea if this is just me or a common problem.

This is not a BOOT CAMP Problem. It is a WINDOWS XP Problem. Either he didn't install the drivers for the sound card. (Which is Realtek High Definition Audio) or the Windows XP audio driver (WNMM) is corrupt.
Go to Device manager and under Sound, Video and Game controllers you should see a little yellow question mark under the WNMM driver. If this is the case he needs to uninstall the driver and reboot. It will then reinstall itself and should work properly after that.

Make sure the correct device is selected.

Your Mac runs maintenance in the background for you.
Command + R gives you access to restore, repair, or reformat the drive using OS X Recovery
No idea why that was suggested.
You may have a third party video player installed that's causing an incompatibility issue.

Try booting in Safe Mode by holding the the shift key immediately after powering on your system. Safe boot mode will for a directory check of your startup volume, then load only the required kernal extensions (kext files), and deletes some cache files. Once the system boots into Safe Mode you can simply restart the system to see whether the issue has been resolved.
If you still have the issue try resetting the SMC by shutting down the system and disconnecting the power cord for ~15 seconds, then reconnecting the power cord. Next, reset the parameter RAM (PRAM) by holding down the option-option-P-R keys after powering ON the system. Wait until the iMac restarts twice, then let the system boot normally.
