Sound stop working partly only ac3 is working[solved]

I hat this problem before but cant remember the solution or find the thread.
I know it is necessary to make alsa like after the first install but i really cant remember what to do. Just pacman -Rsc alsa-utils and later on pacman -S alsa-utils is not enough.
if there is anybody who can remember or enlighten my i would be pleased
Edit: I found some notes of mine. The problem is solved by cutting the rw rights of /etc/rc.d/alsa by chmod a-rw /etc/rc.d/alsa
Rebooting
using alsaconf and alsactl store
adjusting the rights by chmod 755 /etc/rc.d/alsa
and rebooting
Thanks to all who read this thread

The ATV is in recovery mode.
Do as the image suggests and connect the ATV to a computer via a microUSB cable then restore.

  • Mid 2011 Macbook Air - Yosemite keyboard and trackpad stopped working, the only button that worked was the power button, only one USB port works.

    I have a Mid 2011 Macbook Air.
    Upgraded to Yosemite last week.
Three days ago I was using my Macbook Air for the first time since upgrading to Yosemite. I had been using my Macbook Air for approximately 30 minutes, I was using safari and the keyboard and trackpad stopped working (would not respond). The only button that worked was the power button.
I rebooted and they were still not working. I plugged in a USB mouse and external USB keyboard, only one USB port would work (the Left USB port if looking at the screen) so I had to swap between keyboard and mouse.
After logging in there is a bluetooth icon at the top of the screen with a sawtooth line through it. Bluetooth is unavailable and the bluetooth icon is missing from the system preferences menu.
If I run a hardware test by holding D (on USB keyboard) at startup it says that no problems are found and at the conclusion of the test the keyboard and trackpad start working again. When I log on the bluetooth is working again.
I shut down the Macbook Air and when I started it again the keyboard and trackpad and right side USB ports were all not working again. I logged in using the USB keyboard and mouse and the bluetooth not available sawtooth icon had returned.
I ran the hardware test again and at the conclusion of the test the trackpad and keyboard started working again.
I have tried deleting com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and com.apple.Bluetooth.plist.lockfile from /Library/Preferences/ and tried resetting SMC and Power Functions but this did not fix the issue. The only thing that seems to work is running a hardware test - obviously I don't want to do this every time I use the computer.
I do not believe any hardware is faulty/damaged - I think it has something to do with bluetooth/Yosemite.
I do not have the Macbook with me at the moment, if you have suggestions that I can try or additional checks/info you require please let me know and I can get back to you.
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi!
I have exactly the same problem, and I can't find any solution.
I can't even track down the root of the problem: the Bluetooth/Wifi module? The trackpad? The keyboard/top case? The logicboard?
I've tried all the usual: SMC/PRAM reset, clean install, kext cache clearing.
    Any suggestion is greatly appreciated!

  • No Sound From Headphone Jack, Only Internal Speakers working in Macbook Pro A1278

Hello, the internal speakers of Macbook Pro A1278 OSX 10.7.5 are working perfectly, but no sound from headphones or external speakers when plugged in. Headphones/speakers recognized when plugged in, shown by System Preferences/Sound, and since the sound stops from internal speakers when headphones/speakers are plugged in. No red light seen coming from headphone jack, as I read in other posts. The problem began after a cable was connected between computer and stereo system. Maybe overloaded the sound card and burned out a connection? Wondering if you think that the sound card needs to be replaced or is there another solution possible? Thank you.

    Hello JohnBoarkman,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you hear no sound from your accessory when you connect to your headphone jack. My first troubleshooting suggestion for this situation would be resetting the NVRAM on your Mac. Please use the instructions in the attached article to complete this process and let me know if the issue continues.

  • Send to Audition - Work Area Only option not working as expected

Just an odd one I came across today and can't see why it is doing this.
Have part of a sequence that needs to have some work done on the audio so I mark in and out points (and also set my work area to the part in question) and then choose Edit > Edit in Adobe Audition. This then gives me the dialog box and I choose the Work Area only option. However, when Audition opens I get the small section of audio that I need but it has a huge blank space in front of it?? Anyone know what this is happening? I assume it is the area of timeline from Premiere that is ahead of the section I wish to work on but can't see why this needs to be brought in like this.
Can anyone advise please if I am following the workflow correctly.
    Cheers
    Alex

As it turns out, setting this up was simple, one I figured out the "imsimta program" thing.
Here's what I did to get this working.
    1. Created the following shell script named "deliver-listserv" in the /var/opt/SUNWmsgsr/site-programs directory:
    #!/bin/ksh
    #       Script to invoke the LISTSERV lsv_amin command when a
    # message is sent to a mailing list.
    LISTSERV_HOME=~listserv
    LSV_AMIN=$LISTSERV_HOME/bin/lsv_amin
    SPOOL_DIR=$LISTSERV_HOME/spool
    listAddress=$1
    listAddress=${listAddress%+listserv}
    if [ "$listAddress" = "" ];then
            exit 1
    fi
exec $LSV_AMIN $SPOOL_DIR $listAddress2. Set the permissions of the above script to 755.
    3. Added this program to the list of approved programs using the imsimta program command:
imsimta program -a -m listserv -p deliver-listserv -e postmaster -g "%s"4. For each list in question, created a mailbox for all of the addresses required by LISTSERV (in this case, test, owner-test, test-request, test-search-request, test-server, test-signoff-request, and test-subscribe-request).
    5. For each of the mailboxes created in #5, set the mail delivery options to run the message using the listserv method defined in #3 by checking the "Enable the following programs" checkbox and specifying "listserv" in the command text box. This sets the following attributes in the mailbox's LDAP entry:
    mailDeliveryOption: program
mailProgramDeliveryInfo: listservThat's all it takes. Since I specified the "-g" option to supply the username when the program is called, the string "test+listserv" is passed to my script, where I simply strip off the "+listserv" and then invoke the lsv_amin program to handle the delivery. Darned if it didn't work on the first try!

  • The touch on my iphone 3gs does not work. the only time it works is when i slide it to turn it off. I've tried resetting it multiple times and it will still not work. I need help!

Hello, I've got a question about my Iphone 3gs. Well one day i woke up and i tried to slide to unlock my phone but the touch was unresponsive. So, i turned off my phone and back on, the unlock screen came back one and same problem happened. The only time the touch works is when I slide to turn off my phone. When people call me, i can't answer. When people text me, I can't answer. I do have the latest update for the phone. I've looked everywhere on the internet and have got no answers. I have dropped my phone a couple of times and it does have some cracks on the screen. Please help!

Your only chance besides getting it serviced would be setting it up as new device:

  • HDMI Sound Stopped!

The Q700 has worked great: Running HDMI out to HDMI tuner to HDMI TV ... DVD picture and sound are (were) terrific, Windows Media and other players worked great.
I installed Windows 7 - still terrific for a time.
Then, quite suddenly, the sound stopped out of the HDMI (video works flawlessly).  I switched out the cables . . . both worked fine in other configurations (between the received and the TV, eg), and neither fixed the sound-less problem.  Plus, I didn't figure it was a cable issue since the RelTek sound continues to work with the sound meter indicating sound levels - when sound is shifted over to the HDMI in the Sound portion of the Control Panel, the meter doesn't indicate any sound passing through.
Sigh.  Anyone have any suggestions???  Thanks so much...

    Kris,
That is perplexing.  I've not had a chance to play with the Q700 first hand, but I'll share the following experience from a Y450 / Y550 laptop with HDMI.   I found that the audio application didn't always switch well between internal audio and HDMI while a moving was playing.  If I recall, I had to stop the movie, and maybe restart it when I changed from one audio source to the other.
Try making your selection to HDMI and reboot, then try again?
Meanwhile, I'll see if we have a Q700 running Win7 we can take a look at...   maybe others will have some thoughts too.

  • Spdif working but only for AC3/DTS, problem occured suddenly

    Hi all,
My spdif output decided to stop outputting normal sounds. It will only work with AC3/DTS. This seemed to happen suddenly, one minute it was working and the next it wasn't. I hadn't changed anything with regards to the sound setup. IEC958 is unmuted in the Alsamixer app. Not sure what else to check. I think the problem occured when one of my apps crashed so maybe that has something to do with it but I tried rebooting, shutting down completely etc. I can't think of anything else to check.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, this is a media computer and SPDIF is my only option for sound.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

I forgot the power of ssh... The mplayer switches you suggested still result in 2ch. Here is the output of the alternative solution from the link you gave.
    $ amixer set 'IEC958' 100 unmute
    Simple mixer control 'IEC958',0
    Capabilities: pswitch pswitch-joined cswitch cswitch-joined
    Playback channels: Mono
    Capture channels: Mono
    Mono: Playback [on] Capture [off]
FYI: Every time I play something, IEC958 is muted again when I go into alsamixer.

  • OS updated - Sounds stops working

I updated my 2013 (Late model 2012) Mac Mini to the most recent version of the OS Mountain Lion this past weekend - now after about a day of use - the sounds stops working.  It is connected via the Thunderport to Displayport on a Dell Monitor.  Has always worked fine until the software update this past weekend.  Once I reboot - it starts working again and then a day later stops working and I have to reboot!  Any thoughts!
Thanks as this seems directly related to the upgrade!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}' | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    { sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix\.cron)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'; echo; sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook; echo; sudo crontab -l; } 2> /dev/null | open -ef
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    { launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'; echo; crontab -l 2> /dev/null; } | open -ef
    Step 4
    ls -A /e*/{cr,la,mach}* {,/}Lib*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts .la* 2> /dev/null | open -ef
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of login items' | open -ef
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Yogurt spilled on my macbook air and now sounds stopped working. Pls help

    Hi!
So mac and yogurt were inside my bag and the yogurt's lid accidentally opened getting into my mac's charger, usb and headphones port. I tried turning it on and everything seemed fine, sounds and the heaphone port were both working but the usb port wasn't so i just wiped away the yogurt. After wiping everything I could see off, i tried connecting my mac to the power and it's working. Usb port not working tho and the sound stopped working, tried connecting a headset and still not working. Those seem to be the only problems. Right now my mac's open and standing to it's side near the heater to dry. What should I do? :(

Right now my mac's open and standing to it's side near the heater to dry.
Yes, everyone tries the "dry it out" method, doesnt work,... when it does 'work' it works for a while until corrosion sets in.   Make a service call.
Liquid spills, why your MacBook chassis is a one-way valve for spills
After a substantial spill many people will turn their notebook upside down and shake it, not only does this not work, but it spreads liquid havoc throughout your machine and makes things often as bad as possible.
The keyboard itself acts like a one way valve in the case of a substantial liquid spill. While liquid pours into the bottom chassis easy, it does not come out easily at all, and in the case of any spill, most of it will not come out by turning it upside down. Disconnect all power and contact Apple for diagnostics and repair.
Do not attempt to, after a spill, ‘dry out your MacBook’ and test it
After a spill most people invariably try to “dry out” their notebook by various methods, including hair dryers and otherwise. This both does not work, and after a substantial spill of any magnitude, even if the liquid was water, residue is left behind.
There are additionally many very tight places inside your notebook where liquids will linger for a very long time, and cause corrosion or worse.
Immediately unplug your notebook and contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and parts replacement.
In the case of very minor spills people will “dry out” their notebook and feel success that their notebook is working ok, however invariably in nearly all instances after 4-14 days an error / fault pops up and is usually followed by more.
In case of a spill, damage estimates are impossible,.....anything can be fixed, without question.......the question is cost.
contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and cost estimation ....possible parts replacement.

  • My sound stopped working on my HP dv6-1280us

Its only a couple of months old but my sound stopped working.  I don't know much about laptops but here is what I do know.
It stopped working around 10 days ago.  At first there was no sound but I could move the volume up and down with the quicklaunch pad and the mute button would go from red to blue when touched.  I checked to make sure nothing was muted and everything seemed to be fine.
I googled the problem and it said to do a system restoration back before it stopped working.  I tried several times and it went through the process but then when it rebooted it said that it didn't work and that none of the settings have worked.
Then a couple of hours ago I noticed the mute button is now red and won't change to blue the volume slider is not responding to touch either.
Then I saw a post on here that said to go to system recovery and reinstall the sound drived (IDT High Definition CODEC) and I did and it said it did but it didn't fix the problem.
I am lost and would love some help if anyone has any ideas?  please?
    Thanks

  • Itunes sound stops working after 20 mins on videos bought from iTunes store.

On every video i've bought from the iTunes store the sound cuts out after approx 20 mins. I'm on windows 8.0 (completely up-to-date with all drivers up-to-date too) with the latest iTunes (11.1.3.8) and Quicktime (with enhancements switched off). PC is a quad core i7 with 16GB of memory with windows running on an SSD and my iTunes content on another internal HD (not an SSD). iTunes library is approx 24000 songs and 30 videos. i'm watching on a full HD monitor with external speakers and the PC is authorised to play iTunes content.
I've worked my way through all the iTunes support items around video chopping (which was happening too - now fixed) and audio issues but nothing helps e.g. I've switched off iTunes match and home sharing, switched off any audio enhancements in iTunes and my sound card (which is a Via chipset on my motherboard), switched the bit rate to 16 bit/44.1k on windows and itunes, uninstalled and re-installed iTunes etc, etc.
I did have an Apple TV on my network but I've disconnected it in case the sound was being routed to it after a period of time. This hasn't made any difference.
Has anyone had this issue and managed to fix it?
    Thanks

Myself as well, have been having this same problem, around 20 minutes into any movie I open up in my itunes library, the sound stops playing.   I have yet to find any fix for the problem, although I have a thought that it is probably something to do with the buffering.  My songs play just fine, all day long, but any movie only plays for 20 minutes and then the sound goes out.   Additionally, I had another issue that kept popping up an error message everytime I tried to open Itunes, this was finally fixed via copy paste a corruptted (spelling) .dll file.  The only "workaround" for this issue, that I have found, is to open the movie in QuickTime, even though I am not really excited about the QuickTime player.  If anyone finds a better solution, please drop a line. thank you in advance.

  • Alert sounds stopped working

My email, WWF, etc. alert sounds stopped working on my Ipad2, suddenly, for no reason.   I tried resetting the system 3 times and that did not hellp.   The OS is up to date.  The do work if I 'test' them, though.  And, my sound works fine on videos, etc.
Any suggestions?   It is past the warranty period

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

  • AUDIGY 2 ZS: Sound stops working when loading ga

Hello, I recently upgraded my CPU/mobo and reformatted. Ever since then I've been having a few problems with my sound. I'm using the Audigy 2 ZS. I have the latest drivers off the website. Yes, I have disabled the onboard audio in the BIOS and there are no drivers for it installed in Windows. And yes, I have the latest version of DirectX and SP2 and everything else from Windows Update.
    - I'll play Mp3's in Winamp - using both the DirectSound and waveOut output methods - and the music will play fine. Windows system sounds and AIM sounds play find with this too. When I launch any game however, the sound shuts off.
For example, I'll load World of Warcraft, and the music will stop playing, when I exit the game the music resumes. Even stranger I noticed that when I WoW is running, the speaker configuration randomly gets changed from headphones to stereo speakers. Changing it back via Creative Audio Console caused the audio console to hang. Trying to change speaker configuration via Windows did nothing. and yes, I checked to ensure my soundcard was selected as the proper playback device, the volume was up, not muted, etc...
When I run Neverwinter Nights 2, the sound will shut off for the into logo screens and the intro scene. My Mp3 music from Winamp WILL resume playing at the main menu, however, the volume becomes noticeably less. Exitting the game restores the proper volume level.
Even stranger - if I run NW2 followed by Warcraft, my music will play during WoW, but at a lowered volume similar to Neverwinter nights 2. If I then quit WoW and restart WoW, I am back to no music. Strangely it seems just to get the low-volume music to play during WoW, I have to have previously run Neverwinter Nights 2.
    To summarize:
    - Music and Windows sounds stop altogether while running World of Warcraft
    - Music and Windows sounds play at much lesser volume during neveriwnter nights 2, and not at all during intro
    - sound works in warcraft, but at a lower volume, ONLY if I'd run neverwinter just before runnign warcraft
    - similar buggy low volume / no music at all problems in Medieval 2 Total War
    - one time I had my music become all distored and start skipping/ slowing down when I was trying to reset the speaker configuration back to Headphones when it was magically changed to stereo speakers.
I highly doubt it's a problem with the games - I've been playing these games and using Winamp and my Audigy 2 ZS for quite a while now, and never had a problem with any of my games screwing around with my WIndows sound levels or cutting it off altogether. I'll keep updating as I install more softwareMessage Edited by xagent on 0-09-20070:9 AM

Could it have anything to do with the fact that the drivers I downlaoded were off the Creative website?
I'm currently on WInter break for a couple more weeks, and left my Audigy 2 ZS CDs back at college. But I don't see why the latest Audigy 2 drivers from the Creative website should be faulty.
oh, and I'm running Win XP Pro

  • My iPad 3 iOS 8.3 suddenly stopped playing sound on its speakers while on Spotify. Volume max. Side switch not on mute. Tried rebooting thrice. Sounds won't work on other apps. Works with earpods.

My iPad 3 iOS 8.3 suddenly stopped playing sound on its speakers while I was listening on Spotify. Volume was maxxed out. Side switch not on mute. Tried rebooting thrice. Sounds won't work on other apps (Soundcloud, NPR, Clash of Clans). There are sounds when I attached my earpods. I tried the switch to mono solution on the other threads, didn't help either.
My iPad is generally muted because of classes, but when I un-mute it it works fine. It just stopped after one song, and now I can't get it to work. Any thoughts? Thanks.

    Hi!
I've the same issue after updating to iOS 8.3. on iPad 3.
sound is working properly only with headphones attached.
when I tap on AirPlay button it says "Docking connector" while it should "iPad"
when i play with sound settings and try to change e.g. some alert sounds, sound is played and volume slider in control center magically appears.
any other app can't play sound.
is there any fix for that?
    Thanks
