Spaces in file path preventing image load

Hi all,
I've got a problem: after installing Java 1.4 on Windows 2000, some of my image loading code stopped working--but only under very specific conditions (the code in question follows the post).
If you run an applet locally, AND the applet is accessing the class files in an archive (a ZIP file, in my case), AND the path to the html file that references the applet contains spaces, the Java plug-in can't find any images (using the default Toolkit's 'getImage' method).
For example, if I launch "c:/projects/slide_test/slide.htm", everything works great, but if I launch "c:/projects/slide test/slide.htm", the images won't load (assuming the .class files exist in an archive in both cases).
Similarly, if I launch "c:/projects/slide test/slide.htm" but leave the .class files unzipped and in the "slide test" directory, everything works fine.
The code works great using the Microsoft JVM and worked well under JRE 1.3_0x.
Has anyone else encountered and/or solved this problem?
Thanks in advance for any help or comments.
Here's the image loading code, though I stress it's been working great up to Java 1.4:
try {
    this.image = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage(imageURL);
    try {
        tracker = new MediaTracker(parentApplet);
        tracker.addImage(this.image, 0);
        try {
            tracker.waitForID(0);
            this.iWidth = this.image.getWidth(null);
            this.iHeight = this.image.getHeight(null);
        catch (Exception e) {
            System.out.print("Failed to track image.\n");
    catch (Exception e) {
        System.out.print("applet not yet initialized.\n");
catch(Exception e) {
    System.out.print("Failed to data for bitmap " + imageURL.toString() + "\n");

Hey Safir,
Thanks for the post. Unfortunately, that didn't fix the problem. I tried reforming the URL using "\ " and " " (in place of the '%20' that Java automatically substitutes), but the problem persists.
Given that the code works as is until you try to access the class files from an archive, I think there's something deeper at work.
Thanks again.

  • Issue with OracleHelp loading HelpSet with space in file path

    Hi,
    I'm running into an issue where I cannot get OracleHelp to load a HelpSet correctly with RoboHelp contains when the file is in a directory with a file space in it.
    This will load successfully if the path does not contain any white spaces. It looks like oraclehelp may be running into an issue decoding the %20. Any thoughts?

    Hi Experts,
    My concern was Say I delete the requests from the day the data was loaded with thw wrong update rule, I have the data sitting in the PSA and I can reconstruct them. I understand that the data can be corrected in ODS.
    But in the cube, some key figures are there with the update method as 'addition'. So say I delete the content of the cube and reload it from the ODS all over again, wont the key figures get corruipted yet again?
    Also as I was thinking, say we delete the respective request from the cube as well, and reconstruct the data in the ODS. can I fire the delta request again to capture the changed records to be loaded to cube. to be exact will all the data from the date of the data corruption(as I am going to delete the requests from the cube from that day also) will be loaded to the cube?
    Also another thing is will it be a better idea to reconstruct a request in the ODS and run the delta package for the cube.. And go on ..
    Kindly suggest..
    Thanks in advance !!!

  • Spaces in File Path Hyperlink

    I have a crystal report that lists invoices. On each row is an image that contains a hyperlink that loads an image of the scanned invoice. The invoice fields related to that row are passed into the hyperlink. The hyperlink is as follows;
    PVault\Documents\Accounts Payable\Invoices\"&{Invoice.VendorNumber}&"\AP Invoice "&{Invoice.VendorNumber}&" - "&{Invoice.InvoiceNumber}&".tif"
    This hyperlink worked outside of the DNN portal. I have added this report to the portal and am running the report successfully. However when I click on the hyperlink in the DNN portal the hyperlink fails with cannot find file path.
    I would appreciate any help with this. Thanks.

  • Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected file at (file path to image) for editing. it wil

    I have been using lightroom since Beta and this is the first issue that I can't seem to fix.
    I was working on some files editing in external editors - PS5 & Niksoftware I had worked on 4 or 5 images no problems, working awesome as normal.  Then I decided to get rid of one of the files - an edited image - when it asked to remove from lightroom or from disk, I clicked, remove from disk. I never do that but trying to be better with space.  Then tried to edit a different image and the error "Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected file at (NEF - the proper location) for editing. it will not be opened." comes up.
    I looked on line and one answer was to delete the preference file and then restart, which also meant reloading the catalogue.  All of which worked no problem but the error still is coming up.  I have restarted lightroom and the computer a couple of times, in different sequences
    I have lightroom 5.3 64 bit on windows 7, as I said all working perfectly until deleting one file.
    Anybody have any ideas for me?

    I had this error message, too. Turned out it was due to my use of subst to create a virtual drive letter for my photo library. See Lightroom 3.2 - Using subst to a local drive fails for the solution! (even with LR 5.5, still)

  • Is it possible to know the file name of images loaded?

    Hi:
    I have a folder containing some images named 01_image_name.jpg, 02_image_name.jpg, 03_image_name.jpg, ... wich names I read with a PHP script. Then I loop loading each image and waiting until all are loaded to display them
    1. The PHP script reads file names and returns a string with names separated by a "|" char, then I use the split method to store them in imagesNames array and sort it
    2. I loop trough imagesNames array loading images
    3. Anytime a new image arrives I push it in imagesContainer array and check if all images are loaded to show them
    The problem is there's no guarantee they arrive in the same order they were requested. So, how I sort the imagesContainer array by file name, i.e. in the same order they are in imagesNames array?
    Thanks in advance

    if you know when a new image arrives and you can retrieve that new image file name ...
    Well, that's precisely my doubt, how can I know the file name? Is there a property/method for it?
    function loadImages() {
    for (var i:int=0; i<imagesNames.length; i++) {
    var imgLoader:Loader=new Loader;
    imgLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,imgLoaded);
    imgLoader.load(new URLRequest(imgPath + imagesNames[i]));
    function imgLoaded(par:Event):void {
    trace(par.target,par.target.content,par.target.content.name);
    Output window:

  • Error in File file path Failed to load database information

    I've search the forums and haven't been able to find a solution or understanding of the problem.
    I'm getting the message:
    Error in File d:\temp\procSched\jafapennp005.enne.entergy.com.jobserver\~tmp173854eb868aa00.rpt: Failed to load database information.
    When I have the scheduled report in Crystal Enterprise XI.  The report datasource is Oracle via OLE db.  This report is the only one that fails regularly.  If I run it on-demand in CMS, it also fails
    I changed the time from 06:00 Eastern to 04:00 Eastern, it ran for a while, now just fails consistently.  I am able to run it from my local Crystal install on my PC without issues.
    The report is a bit "piggy" and takes a while to format.
    Thank you in advance for any insights of what I can do to fix the problem.

    Hi, You mentioned that the report fails when scheduling and running on demand. However you said that you changed the time from 06:00 Eastern to 04:00 Eastern and the report ran for a while. That means the middleware configuration on your server is probably ok. Can you clear your logging directory and activate the trace for your cr pageserver and the cr jobserver. Run the report on demand in infoview and schedule it. Check your trace for any hints.

  • Spaces in File path of a command

    Hi all,
    I have a problem in the following API
    Runtime.getRuntime.exec
    ("open /var/root/Desktop/Test Folder/abc.jpg");
    it does not open the file mentioned but the following command
    Runtime.getRuntime.exec("open /var/root/Desktop/TestFolder/abc.jpg");
    it opens the file abc.jpg. the only difference between these 2 commands is spaces in "Test Folder" directory name.
    Please let me know if anybody has an idea.

    Also note that to put a quote within a string, you must use:
    e.g, this string printed out in cmd...
    String text = "\"This is a quote\", he said";
    would be: "This is a quote", he saidJust incase you didnt understand that from masijade's explanation.

  • File names of images in IPhoto

    I have two questions. Does anyone know how to see the photo/file name of images loaded into IPhoto? Is there a setting that you can turn on to show the file name under each image?
    Secondly. While trying to find answers to the above question I did discover the export originals option which would allow me to export images into a separate folder that does list the image numbers. This is a work around but not really what I'm after.
    Doing this export I did get a folder of images with their respective file numbers attached. However, what is interesting and I'm hoping someone can answer is that many of the images that should have had my own personal image number, were actually labeled Slide 1, slide 2, etc, etc. When I originally imported these images they contained a number that looked like this 00478-22135. Does anyone know if the dash between the number may not be recognized by IPhoto which it then just labels a generic number it makes up on import? Or any other reason why it would not have accepted my original file name? I know it does accept some file names since several images with a different number format such as D223567 imported just fine and then exported with the correct original file names. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Jim:
    Under the View menu select "Titles" to get the file names. I don't know what you did but I just tried an import of a file titled 00478-22135.jpg and it kept the file name OK.
    When you exported the files what was the Album name and did you use the "Use Album Name" option in the export". If the Album was titled Slides then you would get new file names titled "Slide-1.jpg", etc. That may be the reason.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How to get images dynamically from database without file paths in the table field

    I have a MS-Access database. I am working with ASP.NET. In the database there is product table in which I have "CodeNo" as a field which is a text field, and the product codes like "SM-R-2035". I also have another field "Image" which is also a text field and which have a file path in it corresponding to the particular product Image (e.g. Images\Products\SM-R-2035.jpg). So far every thing is ok. I have to update this site very frequently and lots of images are added each and every time. Its a tedious work to type the paths and file name every time and it also take a lot of time.
    What I am asking is : Is it possible to get images from a specific folder at runtime which is referenced by the "code no" itself and not the file path from the database. (Say at run time the "code no" is referenced from the database and the corresponding image is loaded dynamically from the specified folder). In other word I want to avoid the tedious work of typing.
    Can any one help with this issue. Any other simple suggestions are welcome.

    All you need to do is simple concatenation to obtain the path for the image file.  You didn't mention whether you are using VB.Net, C# or some other language to do your coding.
    If the code in your database is SM-R-2035, the file name is SM-R-2035.jpg and the path to the images foilder is Images\Products\SM-R-2035.jpg, Conceptually here is what you need to do:
    dim code_var
    dim path_var
    code_var = the code you obtain from your relevant field in the database
    path_var = "Images\Products\" & code_var & ".jpg"
    Now path_var is what you would call to obtain the image from your images folder.

  • Images load really slow after using Reduce File Size...

    After using the "Reduce File Size..." feature in Acrobat 9 on Windows Vista, some of the images load really slow as I page through the document. Is there some kind of compression setting that I should look for to prevent the images from be affected by this?
    For some of my documents it will take 30 to 60 seconds to load an image. Sometimes I can't do anything with the document until the graphic loads entirely.

    Can you post an example of a file that has this issue? Personally, I recommend using the PDF optimizer, it gives better control of the final pdf file.

  • When searching for an image in Finder on iMac, I found hundreds of images of printers !! All sorts of printer images which I certainly haven't loaded on.I went to Finder, File, Find and Image and there they are, hundreds,if not low thousands of them.

    I was searching for an image on my Imac and when I went to Finder,File,Find and then Image, I found hundreds if not early thousand images of printers ! Amazing in one way but I didn't put them on my machine and don't really want them there.Did they come pre-loaded? Can I delete them safely? Thanks

    Almost certainly, no absolutely not once you start deleting stuff like this that you think is not needed, eventually you'll trash something essential and cause yourself a lot of heartache.
    There are numerous files classed as images, some will be temporary files in browser caches, others system files, others your "real" images, others files which are not really images but appear to be.
    The amount of space of what I presume are essentially icons of printers will will be minimal, lets say these images are  5k in size (I guess they are much smaller?) and there are 1,000 of them, thats only 5Mb. No doubt your disk has multiple gigabytes free, eg thousands of times as much free as you'd save by deleting all of them. So you might gain back an extra 0.0001% disk space*. NOt worth the time, let alone the risk, plus then you'll get into a mindset "hmm, I dont think I can possibly need this 23byte file either I'll delete that as well etc, and then "problem......".
    Where are the images stored? It may be that at some time you were searching for a new printer and these images are from that exercise (though I doubt you looked at thousands?) in which case they are in your browser cache and you can always delete that through the browser, but that space will be overwritten by other images anyway.
    "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is a motto to work by with computers.
    *( or, if you really do need the (say) 5MB of disk space back because you are running out, this would only be a very temporary solution and that wont have done you any good)

  • Compensate for file path changes in dynamically loaded HTML?

    I'm using DWCS3 to work on a site which has the HTML inside a "Content" folder. The site's programmer uses AJAX to load the HTML into ASPX files which are in the root folder. So, although the HTML files are in the Content folder, all of their relative paths (links, images, etc.) must be set as if they are in the root folder.
    My question is this: In design-time, is there any way that I can get Dreamweaver to treat the files in the Content folder as if they were in the root folder?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for answering, Murray.
    That's what I'm doing now, but it makes some of the features in Dreamweaver unusable. For example, in the Link Checker each of the root relative links in these documents shows up as a broken link, and the items to which they're linking appear as orphans. I know this can be managed with another workaround (moving the files into the root in design time, and then moving them back into the Content folder before publishing).
    I was just wondering if there was a setting (or script, plug-in, etc.) in which I could tell Dreamweaver to treat these files as if they were in the root.
