Spaces on right aligned text

Our users are trying to use spaces as padding for right aligned text but it isn't working.
I did a test with the same text in two different right aligned text holders, the second container contains the text that was in the first container as well as several non-breaking spaces at the end.  When I debug the results of StringTextLineFactory.createTextLines the widths of both text lines were the same.
This seems like it is a FTE issue since FTE has no concept of right aligned text I could see it just dropping off extra spaces at the end of the text but that is just a guess.
It also looks like RichEditableText does the same thing.  In this video i enter "asdf" then a bunch of spaces and it isn't until I enter another character that the space characters are recognized. http://screencast.com/t/NGMzZmNk

We do have a control for using paddingEndIndent but users will be users and they wanted to use spaces.  I didn't realize that this functions the same way as the major text engines.
Thanks for the clarification.

  • Is it possible to use tabs to right align text in Muse, as you can in InDesign?

    Can I use tabs to right align text in Muse, as you can in InDesign?
    I have a beauty treatment followed by a price and I want to right align the price, keeping the treatment on the left of the text box.
    Thank you!

    For what would typically be a two column tab stop layout, I'd generally use inline text frames and the Wrap panel.
    Put the price in it's own text frame. Then cut and paste the text frame BEFORE the item name so it's an inline text frame within the text frame containing the descriptions.Using the Wrap panel set it to float to the right. Then select it and set the right offset so it floats outside the right side of the original text frame.
    Start with this.
    Cut and paste the text frame at the start of the item paragraph.
    Choose the third icon in the Wrap panel to cause the item to float to the right of the text frame.
    Turn off the lock for the 4 wrap offset values.
    Adjust the right offset to a negative value so the item is outside the text frame to the right (to wherever you want it).
    Repeat the same steps above for the other items.
    Note that once it's set up this way you can freely edit the descriptions or change the width of the original text frame and the prices will adjust accordingly. This will also result in things lining up in the browser even if the text layout engine of a specific browser line breaks the text differently.
    This approach is tedious, but the end result will continue to line up as you make changes in Design view and will line up in every browser/OS/device.
    Someday Muse will support tables, which would be the more natural way to achieve this style of layout on the web. Until then, inline items with wrap is usually the best approach for this type of two column layout.

  • Right aligned text in textfield

    Hi,
    I'm trying to set the text in a textfield to be right-aligned, as it is a number textfield. I'm trying to do this with awt only (as opposed to Swing).
    As our number system is Arabic, I figured on doing the following:
    <code>
    txtfld.setComponentOrientation(ComponentOrientation.RIGHT_TO_LEFT);
    </code>
    However, that didn't do the trick, though I'm deuced if I know why!
    Any other suggestions?
    Cheers

    ...Arabic numerals are the ones like 0, 1, 2, and so that are used all over the Western world...Actually, no. I always thought that, too, but I just learned that most Arabic nations use "Arabic-Indic" digits to represent numbers, not the so-called Arabic digits we use in the West (I think I'll just call those "ASCII digits" from now on). However, they are written left-to-right, not right-to-left like the rest of Arabic script. @OP, if this textfield is to contain only digits, you may want to change its internal alignment instead of its orientation. Unfortunately, I don't know how to do that with an AWT TextField.

  • Help! Can't type spaces in a right aligned form field

    I am creating a form letter where sales staff can enter their location information at the bottom. Some of the fields are right aligned. My problem is that the right aligned fields do not to recognize the space bar, and all the text entered runs together. Spaces can be entered after the fact, but I doubt every salesperson will be careful enough to proofread the form and make the correction. Below is a screen grab of the results when typing an address in the right aligned fields
    I posted ta question about this issue a while back but did not find a solution http://forums.adobe.com/thread/609678?tstart=0. I'd hoped it would be resolved in the CS5 upgrade. Unfortunately, it wasn't. Maybe it is something with my system.  The pdf is generated from a Word document saved in 97-2004 format (.doc) out of Word 2008. I'm working on a Macintosh in OS 10.5.8. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!!!!

    Here is the screen grab - I show the field text as I entered it on top, then an edited version on the bottom where I manually added the spaces after entering the text.
    Thanks.

  • Align text between columns with space after paragraphs.

    I am creating a proposal with a ton of text. I used to align everything to a baseline grid with justified type and indented paragraphs. Recently, however, I was asked to change the style to left aligned text with spaces between the paragraphs. The text flows into two columns per page, but I'll be damned if I can get the text to line up. I've tried different baseline grids as well as before and after spacing. I think my issue might be trying to keep paragraph spacing as half the leading. If my copy text leading and baseline are 14 or 7 pt, will a 7 pt paragraph space after work?
    My leading and pt size is below, if anyone can point me to a solution.
    Body copy: 9 pt font/14 pt leadingSpace before/after: 3.5/3.5
    Subheaders: 10 pt font/ 14 pt leadingSpace before/after: 7/3.5
    Baseline: tried both 14 pt and 7 pt

    That's what I thought. I was taught to either have an indented second paragraph or to separate the paragraphs by half the leading of the type. Seems like it's impossible to align the text that way. A full leading separation (14 pt) between paragraphs seems excessive though.

  • I Cannot seem to type spaces in a right aligned form field

    Well, that's not quite true, spaces can be added , but only after entering the text. For example, if I type 3456 Taylor Ave., what I get is 3456TaylorAve, and then I have to go back in and enter the spaces. Since this form will be used by numerous employees and sent out to customers, I am afried this will result in lots of unprofessional looking documents. Does anyone know of a setting I should be turning on to correct this? It only happens in form fields with right-alined text.
    I'm working in OSX 10.5.8 in Acrobat CS3.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Why is InDesign6 rendereing left-aligned text as right-aligned?

    I have a Word Document and we're feeding it to InDesign 5.5 and InDesign 6. The text are left-aligned and were rendered as such by 5.5. InDesign 6 renders it as right-aligned. I'm not sure why this is happening!

  • Problem with formatting text in textobjects with right aligned tabulators

    Post Author: Jens Kluesener
    CA Forum: General
    HiI want to print out some values in a line. So I put a Textobject in the Report with some right aligned tabulators (left aligned tabulators working fine). Then I insert a formula. In this formula i do this:"1"chr(9)"2"chr(9)"3"chr(9)"4"chr(9)"5"chr(9)"6"chr(9)"7"Look:            Many ThanksJens

    I think i found why.
    There was no problem with TextField.
    There was a problem with Array. "CityArea"
    So each time I executed script it added new string in Array. And that is because i got like:
    TextField
    City 1
    City 2
    City 1
    City 2
    Running this script is Ok:
    for (var i1:int = 0; i1 < CityArea.length; i1++)
      _CityAreaString1 += "<P ALIGN='LEFT'><FONT FACE='Verdana' SIZE='32' COLOR='#ffffff'>        "+CityArea[i1]+"</FONT></P>";
      _CityAreaString1 += "<P ALIGN='LEFT'><FONT FACE='Verdana' SIZE='5' COLOR='#ffffff'><BR></FONT></P>";
    But outside of this for loop there is another for loop for adding Cities in CityArray.
    I fixed it by adding empty array at the start of function
    function myFunc():void
    CityArea = [ ]; // Empty array fixed this issue
    // LOOP FOR ADDING SHOPS IN CITY AREA
    for (var j:int = 0; j < _Shops; j++)
    CityArea.push(_Shop);
    // FOR LOOP TO ADDING SHOPS IN STRING
    for (var i1:int = 0; i1 < CityArea.length; i1++)
      _CityAreaString1 += "<P ALIGN='LEFT'><FONT FACE='Verdana' SIZE='32' COLOR='#ffffff'>        "+CityArea[i1]+"</FONT></P>";
      _CityAreaString1 += "<P ALIGN='LEFT'><FONT FACE='Verdana' SIZE='5' COLOR='#ffffff'><BR></FONT></P>";

  • Right align all numbers in table of contents

    One of the entries in my table of contents has the page number right beside the entry. The rest of the page numbers are right aligned.
    When I "Show Invisibles", an arrow is in the single space between the entry and the page number. For the remaining entries, it is in the middle of the page.
    I've tried redoing the heading on the page in question about 100 times. I cannot figure out what is different about that heading that is screwing the ToC up.
    Thanks.

    Hey
    I'm really struggling with my pages as I have created a table of contents for iWork09 but it's defaulted for the pages numbers to sit directly after the chapter rather than face the opposing side like your picture shows. I tried changing the tabs and then the text layout from left to across the page but all it does it push the numbering to the next line (for the longer titles) and push the numbers across (for the shorter named titles). I can't even get the lines to appear so that the chapter title appears, then some dots leading to the number. Any ideas?

  • Need LayoutManager that resizes and supports right-aligned children

    I have two labels that I want to appear inside JPanels such that
    they have minimum 2 pixels padding between the text and the
    border of the JPanel, and the leftmost label is right justified, while
    the rightmost label is left justified. For example)
    [+++++label1++][++label2+++++]
    (the '+' represent white space/padding)
    Additionally, the panels themselves are children of a JPanel that is
    resized via a JSplitPane, so I want the labels to get truncated or
    expanded depending on the size of their containing JPanel.
    Lastly, I want to have the leftmost label right justified within its
    containing JPanel, and the rightmost label to be left justified within
    its containing JPanel.
    I've found that FlowLayout doesn't work because once my text is
    painted truncated, if the containing JPanel is resized larger, the
    label does not change to fill the space.
    What I'm seeing is that when the label is too large for the JPanel,
    it correctly gets truncated such as:
    [++lab...++]
    '+' represents white space/padding
    "..." implies truncated text
    but when the JPanel is grown, it simply adds padding to the current
    text that is painted:
    [+++++++lab...++]
    when I want it to expand the text and keep the result right justified:
    [++++++label1++]
    BoxLayout doesn't work because I can't find a way to get the text to
    be right-justified within the JPanel.
    BorderLayout isn't viable because while my example only shows a single
    label in the JPanel, I could actually have many components to add
    to the JPanel. So, I could create a JPanel to hold the many comps,
    but then that JPanel would have the same issue with layout.
    GridBag seems way overkill for what I need to do, which is simply,
    right justify text that will be react to contain panel bounds changes.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated.
    -Andy.

    Thanks for the reply. Unfortuneately, other circumstances prevent me from being
    able to do it that way :(
    I basically have very HTML-ish XML used to define a table.
    The table uses a GridBagLayout that lays out the <td>'s that are
    currently JPanel's. The <tr>'s do not create any JComponent as
    they are simply used to define attributes that are applied to all
    row <td>'s.
    My XML looks something like:
    <table>
      <tr>
        <td style="align: right; hgap: 2;"><label text="Hello"/></td>
        <td style="align: left; hgap: 2;"><label text="World"/></td>
      </tr>
    </table>So, when this is displayed it should show like:
    [++Hello++][++World++]
    or when it's shrunk, it should become something like:
    [++He...++][++Wo...++]
    and when the row is grown, it should become something like:
    [++++++Hello++][++World++++++]
    Also, since the GUI is defined in the XML, there can be many labels,
    images, etc inside one of the <td> tags, and I want them to be displayed
    L to R within the <td> in the order they appear, but I want them to be
    left or right justified with respect to the <td> JPanel.
    Maybe I can use a Box as my <td> instead of a JPanel so I can
    add a glue component on the left for right justified, and glue on the right
    (or no glue component) for left justified? I'll try that next...
    Thanks again for your help.
    -Andy.

  • Right align numeric field in query

    How do i embed the html code in the query to right align a query column?
    I tried this query
    select '<span style="color:red;text-align:right;">' || totals || '</span>' as Totals from mytable
    The result is comes as red color but the text is not right aligned.

    You have to replace &lt; by & lt; -> remove the space between & and lt;
    BTW, why not use the "Column Alignment" property of a report column?
