Special characters(Apoostrophe) in username
Hi
weblogic server (10.2) does not seem to allow users to be created with an apostrophe(') in the user name. If a user already exists in the database , the SQL Authenticator refuses the login as well (even if the password is correct).
is there any workaround/patch for this problem?
Also what characters are not allowed?

Some code validates that the login name doesn't have apostrophe (which is silly because the authenticators use PreparedStatement).

Special Characters in a username cause login problem
We have got SSO setup on our application and have successfully been testing away, until we tried logging in with an account which has a '+' character in the username. We are authenticating and getting an SSO token but the login process then fails with a "User has no profile in this organization" message. This call http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9820513 talks about a workaround that ignores the Profile service which does get us logged in, but in the longer term I need to be able to use this functionality to set conditions per URL policy.
Has anybody come across other probelms with usernames containing special characters? Is there some kind of encoding switch I need to turn on somewhere.
Cheers and TIA for your help.Hi

Restrict use of special characters in AD usernames
I am planning to restrict use of any special characters including - "dash" when creating AD users in ADUC console.
All are windows server 2008 R2 Domain Controllers
Any suggestions.
MCSE CertifiedYou should change the thread to a question rather than discussion.
My recommendation would be to use PowerShell to do this.
You could edit this script
http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/New-User-Creation-tool-14fa73cd
It will give you a GUI interface and you could edit this to prevent the characters you want from being used in usernames.

802.1X PEAP fails when using special characters in login
I am using MS AD & NPS for 802.1X Enterprise authentication with PEAP (no client certificate - MS-CHAPv2 user credentials for login). This works fine for iOS devices on 8.1 (iPhone 5 and iPad mini) and 6.1.6 (iPhone 3GS) when the user has standard "English" ASCII characters in the username and password.
However, when I introduce Unicode special accented characters in the login name or password such as French é/ù or Spanish ñ then after accepting the server cert authentication fails with "Incorrect username or password for <WLAN name>". Windows 7 and CentOS 6.5 laptops have no problem authenticating to the same setup with either "English" credentials or ones with special accented characters. I also tried an old iPod touch on ancient software version and that fails, so its not something recently introduced.
I tried using a different access point (TP-Link instead of Ruckus) and had exactly the same issue, so highly unlikely this is an AP issue.
Then I setup FreeRadius with and see exactly the same issue, so its highly unlikely to be a MS AD/NPS issue.
When comparing a working/failed authentication Wireshark packet capture on the NPS server, I see the failed attempt is missing the last 4 packets in the authentication exchange. The last packet sent is an Access-Challenge from the NPS server and no response from the iOS device, so the NPS server never even sends an Access-Reject. The iOS device appears to have decided it can't resolve the special characters and terminates the authentication attempt.
To me this seems to be an Apple iOS software deficiency when using Unicode special characters in the username or password for 801.2X authentication?Enterprise support:

Usernames with special characters
Can anyone tell me whether I can create Portal Usernames containing a period? e.g.
Paul.Subacchi
MyOracle.com has a self registration portlet that allows this, has anyone used it? and where can I get a copy.
Thanks in advanceI think you cannot.
About user names, in the Portal Documentation it says :
-The user name must be unique, is limited to 30 characters, and we
recommend that you keep it short to make it easier for users to enter.
-The first character of a user name must be alphanumeric (A-Z, a-z, 0-9).
The remaining characters can include alphanumeric, and the underscore
(_) and dollar ($) characters; no spaces or other special characters.
-User names are not case-sensitive. Therefore, SCOTT, Scott, and scott
are the same user name.
I am also interested in create usernames like:
name.lastname
Is Oracle planning to allow "." in future releases?
Tks!!

How to handle special characters in Apex
Hi ,
In my application I have two regions - one is Report Region (Interactive Report) and other one is HTML region with two text items - Empno and name
My Report has two columns Empno(varchar2) and Ename(varchar2).
When I click the edit link in the report column, the empno should have a read only EMPNO value and ename is a text field with ENAME value.
When I run my application I have encountered the following problems :
1. if my empno has special characters like ' # ', the characters after that is not getting displayed
2. if my empno has special characters like ',' - the characters after comma is treated as a next texitem value
Here is my credential ,
Workspace CTSAN_ORACLE_DB
Username [email protected]
Password lakshmi321
URL : http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=9444:19:4292839314890159:::::
Plz. suggest me how to rectify the above problems.
Thanks,
Anoo..
Edited by: Anoo on Aug 13, 2010 3:05 AMDon't pass data values in URLs. Whilst it is possible to escape values to make them URL- and APEX parameter-safe, it is much better practice to avoid the problem altogether.
Create a surrogate primary key on the table that is an immutable discrete numeric identifier and only use this as a URL parameter. In target pages/regions, use this PK value to retrieve the required data from the table. -

Vibe 3.2 problems with special characters?
I'm not sure where the issue lies here, the client or Vibe, so I'll throw
this out there to see if anyone has run into this problem. I have a user
with a + sign in their password. If he tries to log in from either his
Android phone or his Android tablet, he gets a bad password error. Using a
different browser on the tablet, he was able to get logged in. Using my
Android phone, he was also able to get logged in.
Are there any known issues with Vibe not supporting certain browsers for
special characters in passwords? I don't think he had the problem with Vibe
3.1.

[email protected]Yes, you're right. Same issue here with a '' character. Found this:
'6.2 Character Restrictions in Usernames and Passwords
Do not use extended characters or double-byte characters in Novell Vibe usernames and passwords.
This includes usernames and passwords that are synchronized from an LDAP directory into Vibe.
This limitation is caused by the open source Spring Security (http://static.springframework.org/
spring-security/site) that Vibe uses for authentication, in combination with the various authentication
methodsboth basic authentication (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basic_a...authentication) and
form-based authentication (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Form_ba...tication)used by
single sign-on products such as Novell Authentication Manager, by Web services, and by WebDAV.
Only ASCII characters are properly interpreted in all combinations.'

Create an InitialContext with a password containing special characters?
Hi there,
I' trying to run the InitialContextExample with WLS 5.1. It works fine as long
as I use my userId
and a password that contains no special characters. If I try to run the example

wrong username or password.
I'm trying to get this done by th following command:
java examples.jndi.InitialContextExample t3://localhost:7001 max $test$
My weblogic.properties file looks like this:
# CORE SECURITY-RELATED PROPERTIES
# Read important information about security at:
# REQUIRED: The system password MUST be set in order to start the
# WebLogic Server. This password is case-sensitive, at least 8 characters.
# The username for the privileged user is ALWAYS "system".
# This username and password also includes httpd access (see
# HTTPD properties below).
weblogic.password.rme=mypass
weblogic.password.max=$test$
Propaby I have to escape this special characters, but how do I have to do this?
I did not find anything in the examples!
Thanks for your help.

Export Database With Password Containing Special Characters
Hi,
I'm doing a database export using the command:
exp userid=user/pass@instance parfile=exp_parms.dat
The problem is that the password contains special characters so the command fails with a syntax error. The command works perfectly fine when I run it without the password and just type it in when prompted, but I need to include the password in the command because I am running it in a batch file. I've tried using the escape character (\), but this results in a username-password mismatch.
Is there some way of declaring a password containing special characters in the 'exp' command?
...Thanks in advanced!Hi,
I'm using linux and this is how I did it.
I created a user named ddg with a password ddg)ddg
I did my expdp command like:
expdp ddg/"ddg\)ddg" directory=dpump_dir dumpfile=ddg.dmp
Put the password in double quotes and escape the funny character with a \
Hope this helps.

Hi,
i'm displaying usernames in our application, but i'm not sure
how to display
special characters correctly.
When using the labels htmltext property, it only recognized
html style tags, but
no html encoded special character like ü for the
german character ü.
The encode string is simply displayed literally: ü
Anyone knows how to display those special characters
correctly ?Try one of the NSString "stringByReplacingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding" methods.

What are the special characters?
Hello,
I am doing the dreamweaver tutorial that comes with
Dreamweaver 8 and so far I have done everything by the book and I
am getting an error when trying to insert a flash movie into my web
page.
The error message states "The URL cannot contain spaces or
special characters. Change the path or file name and try again"
This is the path of the file I am trying to insert:
cafe_townsend/flash_fma.swf
any suggestions as to why it isn't accepting this file name?
What are the special characters they speak of?
btw I am running osx 10.3.9 on a 933mhz Ibook

It may be a special character in the hd name or other folder
names on the
way down to the local site folder.
What os are you using?
please do this.
create a new blank dw document using File-->New
-->don't save it<--
please insert an image that is in this site's Local Site
Folder
look in code view and copy this image tag. Paste it into your
reply.
It should be the full absolute path, like
<img
src="file:///hdname/Users/username/folder/folder/image.jpg">

Unacceptable characters in datasource username
Hi,
The company I work with uses creates datasource names that
include special characters for extra security. The same is done
with the SQL Server database username and passwords. In MX 6 we
could get as crazy with the characters as we wanted. We are
noticing that on MX 7 the administrator chokes when some characters
are used. For example, here's a sample username:
u?7E3R<l.aB
CF Admin will recognize everthing up to the "<". And no,
SQL Server has no issue with
u?7E3R<l.aB as the username.
Is there a list of acceptable characters somewhere?
Thanks, D. Housedavidhous1 wrote:

Not really, use multibyte unicode (far eastern languages) and
it blows up.

It makes sense that in an HTML interface HTML special
characters such as
a < are not allowed. In general I would guess that
everything that
survives being escaped with HTMLCodeFormat() will be
accepted.
