Specifying page to open with new tab

I have my safari preferences set to open Google when I launch Safari, but when I open a new tab I just get a blank page. Is there a way of getting the new tab to open in google as well?

I agree. You can't just say "you don't need to." that limits functionality to just what one individual or group thinks their users need. I'm sure this is easily implemented, it's just not exposed to the user. So how do we ask the Safari Mac team to add it right below Preferences... General New Windows Open with:?
I created a mockup of it at http://www.reilyranch.com/newTabsOpenWithMockup.jpg

  • SwithcHosts was installed, not understandable, uninstalled, causing problems. FF opens with New tab, not Home Page

    That's SwitchHosts. Uninstalled it, removed from profile, but still FF starts with New tab and not Home Page. Is there a line in about:config that needs changing???

    That didn't work. But, I did remember to do a System Restore, and that seems to have fixed it. SwitchHosts is no friend of mine. Even the MVP program has limits. I wish these programs did not try to take over my computer and they should have good uninstall features.
    Thanks for the reply.

  • How do I get Firefox's home page to open a new tab when searching?

    I'm slightly modifying Firefox's about:home page, and I'm trying to get the home page to effectively be its own app tab. In order to do that, I need to make it so that when I search with it, it opens a new tab to view my search results.
    I've tried two things so far; I've tried adding the attribute '''target="_blank"''' to the '''<form>''' tag, and I've tried adding the attribute '''onclick="this.form.target='_blank';return true;"''' to the '''<input>''' tag nested inside of the '''<form>''' tag (I'm guessing the latter is JavaScript lol). I also tried an extension "TabSubmit" which didn't work here.
    I know how to edit the right page (I'm changing the contents of aboutHome.xhtml in omni.ja), and have already edited the stylesheet slightly (to underline links when hovering over them and adjusting the fading of Mozilla's logo when hovering over it). This is the next change I wanted to make.
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

    The about:home uses window.location.href = url; to change the location of the current tab.
    Changing this to window.open(url); and adding a line at the end of the aboutHome.js file to initialize localStorage works for me with a locally saved about:home page.
    <pre><nowiki>function onSearchSubmit(aEvent)
    let searchTerms = document.getElementById("searchText").value;
    if (gSearchEngine && searchTerms.length > 0) {
    const SEARCH_TOKENS = {
    "_searchTerms_": encodeURIComponent(searchTerms)
    let url = gSearchEngine.searchUrl;
    for (let key in SEARCH_TOKENS) {
    url = url.replace(key, SEARCH_TOKENS[key]);
    window.open(url);
    aEvent.preventDefault();
    localStorage["search-engine"]="{\"name\":\"Google\",\"searchUrl\":\"http://www.google.com/search?q=_searchTerms_&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a\"}";</nowiki></pre>

  • Has "open in new page" and "open in new tab" been swopped?

    I am constantly opening new pages instead of new tabs.
    Have the two right click functions been swopped and is it possible to swop them back?

    Yes they have been swapped. Open in New Tab is now first (formerly second) and Open in New Window is now second (formerly first).
    You can change the order with this Extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/menu-editor/

  • Opening a new page via "open in new tab" doesn't load new page anymore

    I have been using firefox for a long time now because I love it's option of opening in a new tab while staying on the tab I am currently using.
    Recently, over the last week or so, when I open a link using a new tab, the page doesn't load in the new tab. It's just thinks and thinks and finally shows that the page is open, but the page is actually blank.

    Try the Firefox SafeMode. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.''
    ''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
    # You can open the Firefox 4.0 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    # Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
    ''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
    If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

  • Everytime I click on a link, instead of loading it on the same page it opens a new tab.

    Suddenly every time I click on a link, it opens it in a new tab i.e.; if I search yahoo from my home page, it opens yahoo in a new tab, then when I click on yahoo mail, it opens yahoo mail in a new tab, and then when I sign in, it opens yet another new tab, etc etc. I must have pressed something, but I don't know how to undo it.

    Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />

  • Firefox always open with new tab and doesnt go to homepage, UNLESS I have it open then it opens a new browser and goes to my homepage

    Instead of opening on my homepage, firefox opens on blank page, it says new tab.
    If I open it and open a second browser instance while the first is still open, the second instance will go to my home page as it should. I have tried reinstalling firefox.

    Sorry but this didnt help.
    What happens is When I open firefox instead of going to my homepage which I set to Google.com via the options. It just opens a blank tab. Before if I opened firefox there was no tab unless I clicked on the little plus sign. It clearly states New Tab on the first thing when opened.I tried the

Did exactly as told but when I turn on firefox, same old thing. Now the weird part is if I open firefox I get what I just described, it opens with a blank new tab. But if I leave that instance open and open a 2nd browser, it opens to Google and looks fine! Very irritating . Also If I change the home page to Firefox homepage it works fine everytime. Seems they only want me going to thier page.

  • Whenever I click a link on a page that opens a new tab I get a bar at the top of my screen that asks me to 'Allow' this. How do I turn this off?

    Could you check whether you've blocked redirects? That is one of the kinds of changes that can generate that bar.
    "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
    On the "General" mini-tab, check the first section, and ''uncheck'' the box for "Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page"
    Any change?

    This just started a couple weeks ago, I've tried disabling numerous add-ons and updating plugins but to no avail.

  • When opening a new tab, IE9 opens a blank page, not the new tab page

    I change my settings to open a the new tab page when I open a new tab. This works for one boot of Windows. Second boot, the settings have magically changed back to opening a blank page.
    It worked to start with. I only just reinstalled Windows on this computer. Then a few days ago I didn't get my most recent sites when I opened a tab. Changed the settings. Next boot. They had reset.
    It seems as if the settings do not save. I had this problem on my older computer as well. Never found a fix.
    To clear up misunderstandings (there are some similar posts), when I select a link to open in a new tab, it always works.

    Hi ,
    In order to clarify the issue clearly, I would like to ask the following questions:
    Did you make the steps below to set “When a new tab is opened” to open your first home page?
    Open a new tab to your home page in Internet Explorer
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Open-a-new-tab-to-your-home-page-in-Internet-Explorer
    Will the home page change back after the second boot?
    Is this setting able to be saved?
    Is this your home pc?
    What’s the operation system?
    Generally, this issue  will not persist after reinstalling the Windows.
    I would recommend you to perform the steps mentioned below and check if it helps:
    1. Temporarily disable all the third party security programs and boot in
    Clean Boot to test the issue.
    2. I would suggest you to optimizing the internet explorer for better performance and check if it helps.
    How to optimize Internet Explorer (Also applicable for IE 9)
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936213/ro
    Note: Resetting Internet Explorer’s settings is not reversible. After a reset, all previous settings are lost and cannot
    be recovered.
