Spelling Correction Foibles???

Moons ago, I turned off Auto-Fill in Safari because whenever it auto-filled my e-mail address, 30% of the time the website did not recognize it. I was always forced to erase it and re-type it. I like Auto-Fill but this problem was such a headache that I decided to turn it off. Now I have a new but related problem. Whenever I have to type my e-mail address, [email protected], the internal corrector almost demands that I capitalize the C in Comcast, which in my e-mail address is incorrect. In order to type my address, I have to cancel out the capitalized Comcast twice to finish the address. Is there somewhere in the bowels of my iPad where I could tell it to make an exception with Comcast?

Thanks, Meg! I have a feeling that is likely to be true. I was just a little worried that it might lead someone else to think that it was necessary to capitalize it. Also, I must admit that part of the problem for me is that I am an obsessive compulsive retired teacher and it feels like a misspelled word, which after 35 years of teaching, grates on my psyche like fingernails on the blackboard, even though they don't use blackboards any more.

I think the SQL statement should be

Restart your iOS device.
Delete the affected email account from your device.
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Choose the affected email account, then tap Delete Account.
Add your account again.

In gmail the spell checker underlines the ends of words that are spelled correctly. Annoying at best.

running firefox 16.0.1 on pc with windows 7. This seems to have started with new version upgrade. In gmail the spell checker highlights last parts of words that are spelled correctly.

I can't check this the moment, but normally spelling correction is determined by the keyboard layout you are using, rather than the localization of the app. So you should be able to get german spelling correction even if Pages is running in English.

Grammer and Spelling correction in InDesign

Is it possible to get a Grammer and Spelling correction plugin for InDesign to correct Russian grammer and Spelling?

Changing the language in the

does nothing. (You can change the default settings
i for text in that language
there, such as which hyphenation module to use, and what type of automatic quotation marks you want. These settings are only applied to text that has that language applied to it -- and existing quotation marks do not change, only those you enter afterwards.)
Changing the language "of the document" (in the Character panel, with nothing selected) does nothing. Oh okay, it sets the default language for any new text frames you draw.
So, the display of other language's characters has nothing to do with any language -- as Peter says, it's just a question of which characters are in your fonts. If there is no Greek, you cannot see Greek text. If there is no Cyrillic, you cannot see Russian text.
When in doubt, apply the font Arial Unicode MS to the text. If suddenly all is clear, it's just the font you used before. If all still stay blocks and/or dots (highlighted in pink), you could check the Unicode value of one of these: select a single character and check the Info Panel. If it says anything like "F030" or "F061" or anything with a leading "F0", the font used in Word is non-Unicode compliant, and you cannot change the text to any other font. If it says anything between "0300" and "03FF" it is Greek, anything in the "04.." range is Cyrillic, etc., and most of Windows new fonts (Times New Roman, Calibri, Arial) and Adobe's Pro fonts (Myriad, Minion) contain the appropriate characters.

How to not accept spelling correction

Most of the time, I'm happy to accept the spelling corrections iPhone provides... especially when it inserts apostrophies (e.g. wont -> won't). But, having the spacebar be the signal to accept a correction is awkward... especially when what I've typed is correct. Then I have to go back and undo the changes... well, you all know what I mean. Is there some optional key to tell it, "no, don't change it... my spelling is correct"?

How to disable spelling correction languages?

I have two spelling-correction languages installed: English and Dutch. But in the context 'Languages'-menu I can choose from 6 versions of Dutch and 4 versions of English. I'd like to disable or remove 8 of them, because I never use them. Is this possible and if so, how?

That's a solution. It doesn't however answer my question. Clearly there is some metadata tag that tells ACR what corrections to apply. Using EXIFTool, I can replace all the metadata with that from a shot with a non-correctable lens. Unfortunately, this screws up my cataloguing by replacing other things like focal length, aperture and so on. It would be nice to know the exact tag. Thanks.

If you use a stock transition effect from DVDSP, the default (and you can't override it) is to composite the transition by using the first frame of your motion elements to transition to the next element. If your first frame for the motion thumbnail is black, then that's what you'll see.
If you want to 'freeze' the action at the time the button was selected, you have to create your own intermediary clip. The user selects a button, it goes to the intermediary clip, whose end action is directed to the item displayed or represented by the button in the first place.

Mac: When I click on a misspelled word in the body of an email the spell checker defaults to first word in the email even if it already spelled correctly

The spell checker identifies incorrect spelled words, however when I right click or control click the word the spell checker only highlights in yellow the first word in the email and gives a dialog with the spelling and definition even though that word already correctly spelled. This is version 33.1 on my mac desktop running 10.10. Spell checking works properly if I use Safari.

How do I stop ios5 from autocorrecting words that are spelled correctly?

As soon as I upgraded to ios5 I have noticed the autocorrect went form not bad to a total trainwreck! It is constantly trying to correct things that are spelled right or words that the previous iOS autocorrect got used to. Like I type the word "so" a lot and for some reason it keeps wanting to change it to do, or when I type o instead if oh it is constantly correcting it back to I. Is there a way to tell autocorrect to cool it and trust me that I'm typing what I want, especially when I attempt to enter "so" like 15 times and touch the "x" next to the suggested "do" trying to make it get the point that I don't want to say "do"

I'm having this problem to on the iPhone 4. Any help out there?

Spelling correction doesn't correct automatically.

I thought auto correct was in Mail and Safari? With SL? It works fine in Textedit. Not in Mail or Safari. If I type teh in Textedit it corrects fine. Not in Mail or Safari.
Am I mistaken?

Thanks I tried this also. I have gotten it to work in Mail. But Safarri - nothing. In Safari it only underlines the inccorrect spelled word. Doesn't auto correct.
In Mail it worked with VK's reply.
I must be missing something for Safari.

Pages in-built dictionary and spelling correction

Hi. this is my first post here.
I've recently started using Pages as my main word program. I'm still learning how to use this program, and it has got quite some quirks of its own.
my question is: when i type "may", the program always capitalize it to 'May' where 'May' as month is not intended. The dictionary seems to be very basic. it does not recognize many common words that a program like Microsoft Word would.
I am wondering if you could tell me how to customize these spelling errors. I've already done many with Auto Correction feature in the Preferences.

Welcome to Apple discussions.
The issue of Pages insisting that may is the name of a month has come up a few times before. You can fix this specific problem by dinking inside Pages' AutoCorrect file. To edit this file, you need to open up Pages' package contents in the Finder. Command-click on Pages > select Show Package Contents from the menu. From there, navigate thusly: pages/contents/frameworks/sfwordprocessingframework/versions/A/resources/englis h.lproj/autocorrect.plist. Delete the entry for "May." "August" too.

Insane spelling correction in Pages for Lion: "is" - "si"

Well, the new pages for Lion insists on correcting the word "is" to "si" every time I type it.
This insane behavior ceases only when I uncheck Edit>Spelling>Check Spelling as You Type.
When I go to Edit>Spelling..., enter the word "is" into the entry field and press "Guess", Pages returns a guess of "si".
When I go to Pages>Preferences> Autocorrect, there is no entry in the list of autocorrect entries for "is" or for "si".
When I go to Apple>System Preferences>Language & Text>Text, there is no entry in the list of autocorrect entries for either "is" or "si".
Under Apple>System Preferences>Language & Text>Language, my choice is US English. Spanish is not among the choices.
So I guess Pages for Lion somehow thinks that I am a Spanish speaker and is trying to help me out. Sheesh.
Apple, this system (OS X LIon) and software (iWork) release is not up to your high usual standards!!!!!

Mail and spelling correction

Is there a way to have Mail correct spelling automatically. Outlook for windows would autocorrect as you type. Is there a 3rd party app that allows for autocorrection in Mac OS X (10.5.1)?
