Split combined signals

Hello,
I have two combined signals (sine waves) one with a frequency of 2MHz and another one @2.7MHz. I haven't been succesful in finding the proper algorithm to split the combined signal into its two different components. Could anyone give me a push in the right direction?
Thanks!

Are these two signals from separate sources and have been added together in software? Or is it a composite signal with two frequency components?
If the latter, filters may be the solution.
What is the sampling rate? How much do the frequencies vary? What characteristics of each signal are you trying to measure? What format or datatype represents the signals? How many samples are in each data set? Can you post some data along with what you expect the outputs to be?

  • "Example on reading combined signals from a serial port and separating them for display purposes". I am a beginner in Labview and would appreciate if anyone help with that

I am working on a wireless vital sign monitor. I have 3 signals; heart rate and temperature. I filter and amplify the signals before converting them into digital form. I then pass them via MAX232 before passing them to RS232 serial cable.
I am therefore working on a program to receive the combined signal and separate them.
I have come across serial read and write examples on ni.com but am looking for one where I can actually separate combined signals and display them separately.

Reading the serial port will give you a string. How you divide the channels depends on how the data was formatted before it was sent over the serial channel.
If you are designing the instrument, as it seems from your query, then you can set up any form you wish. If your data is always floating point numeric, you could use space or tab characters to separate data words. You could use and XML format. If the instrument is provided by a vendor, contact them for the protocol.
If tabs are used between words and returns between sets of readings, the resutlant string can be interpretted by the Spreadsheet String to Array function in LV.
Things to avoid are characters often used by serial communications systems as control characters. Carraige returns are
often used as command terminators by serial protocols, but may also be used by the port.

  • Splitting a signal based on frequencies

    Hi,
Im doing a project, where im driving 6 leds of different colours at different frequencies using the digital outputs of a usb-6009, and receiving a signal using a single photodiode using the analog input of the same usb-6009
So i have one signal, what i would like to do is be able to seperate this signal into parts based on the light information from each of the leds, is it possible to split a signal this way? Each led is running at a different frequency
Once this is done i would also like to display each of the signals together on a graph in a different colour for each led?
    Is this possible?
    Thanks

    tger003,
now i think we are getting somewhere
Let's see if i got your fixture correct: You want to analyze different
materials by optical methods. Therefore, your "Unit Under Test" (UUT)
is set on a fixture where you use 6 different LEDs to light the UUT.
Somewhere (maybe behind the UUT or above it as the LEDs) you have some
kind of photodiode to acquire the passed/reflected light. And now the
question you are seeking an answer is: How do i know, which light is
    passed/reflected to which extend (%)?
Well, to answer this question, it mainly depends on the transducer you
are using. a simple photodiode is in my opinion not able to solve the
issue. Why that? A photodiode only detects intensity of light.
furthermore, the diode itself has a "perfect" frequency where it
"detects more intensity" as with other frequencies even if all
frequencies HAVE THE SAME intensity. Another point is that you cannot
differ the frequencies themselfs since you only got one value,
"intensity of light", which is the sum of all light-frequencies
    lighting the diode.
So you have to change the setup:
    a) Use optical filters. You can use filters which pass only one light
from your LEDs and swithc them through during your measurement. You
have to create some sort of scale for your light-intensity since the
diode reacts differently on different frequencies.
    b) Use some other transducers which are able to detect colors.
hope this time i got it correct

  • Splitting one signal from DAQ

Hi I m just working on my project and part of this is also build interface in Labview to use DAQ device 6008.
DAQ device serves to acquire Voltages from thermistors and my interface should split this signal for example like this:
    =if(and(x>=8,D65<=8.54),-33.1*LN(D65)+46.12,if(and(x<8,x>=7.12),-40.1*LN(D65)+34.11,if(and(x<7.12,x>=6.15),-51.2*LN(D65)-0.28,"Out of Range")))
but this is just excel equation that works. I tried to do something similar in quation node because that would be the simpliest way for me, signal that enters the node is x and leave as y and goes to the waveform chart, but it didn`t work.
Then I built this interface thanks to the greater, lower icons and it was working fine till I was using number indicators icons as my input, but when i replaced them with DAQ device there was lot of issues with data types I was using and even after I fixed them there was all of sudden other problem with my equation node (because I needed to write condition somehow I used node) DAQ didn`t like it.
Any help please. I m new in this world then if someone will know what to do, please try it in simple world.
    thank you in advance

Hi and thank you for your answer.
First file is the interface I created without DAQassist because I was told it will be the same when the numeric controllers will be replaced with DAQ assist, and this interface works.
The next file is with DAQassist and there is many errors regarding the wires types and even when I add "convert from dynamic data" after signal is split then I get next error, and even when I ad "index array" that is recomended for this error when I run simulation I m getting next error regarding my functional node.
If you can help I would really appreciate it.
I have to find my very first file which include only functional node and I will forward it to you.
    Best regards

  • Speed of split/merge signals

I was wondering the order of magnitude of time it takes to merging signals and then splitting them?  Is it about 1ms, 10ms, etc.  I am merging and then splitting about 4 signals, all of which are averaged values (so 1 number).  I am try to increase the performance of my code and I am wondering if I might be taking a significant performance hit from doing this (I merge and then split the signals for code readability reasons).
    Thanks for your help.

I have attached a screenshot of what I am doing (slightly modified due to the proprietary nature of the code).  Let me know what you think.

  • How can I split a signal coming in from an instrument?

I have a device (USB-TC made by Measurment Computing Corporation) that reads in 3 thermocouples in real-time and sends the information to my computer via USB. I am getting one signal from the instrument, how can i split it up into each thermocouple's information in LabVIEW 7.1?
    Cory K

You are going to have to clarify what you mean by 'one signal'. If you can specify a multi-channel acquitisiton, then you should be getting back at least an array where each element in the array represents a channel. If you are specifying a single channel and getting back a scalar, you would need to call that three times with a different channel each time.

I have FIOS and just purchased a flat screen for my office, which I want to hang on the wall.  Issue - Set Box  and where to place it.  I understand I can move the box to a another space and use a repeater to transmit the signal from the box to the TV.  I want to place the box on a shelf under my desk about 5 ft from the tv and out of the way.  Questions:
    1.  Rather than run a new FIOS cable to where I want the Box under the desk, can I simply "split" the FIOS sifnal coming in for my internet and run a cable to the box?
    2.  Any experience in using the Radio Shack repeaters?

    1. Should work fine. Radio Shack bidirectional splitters work fine here.
    2. I could not recommend any type of repeater or amplfier on the coax, because it would not be bidirectional and support the IP frequencies of the STB. Assuming you mean on the COAX.

  • Splitting Firewire signal into two outputs

    Hello everyone,
I'm attempting to find a way to split a single firewire signal and output it to two sources. I need a single signal coming from my digital video mixer (sadly it only has one firewire out) to go into my G5 and simultaneously go into a DV HardDrive recorder.
Does anyone know if this is possible?
    Thanks,
    Jason

    nyfm-
    Hmm.
I am guessing that if you are using the S-Video outs from the camera, then the DA conversion is done in the mixer and then outpt to the G5 via FW. Can the mixer output digital and firewire at the same time? If so, then your external recording device could be something that accepts video and records it directly from the mixer.
Can't you configure whatever software you are using to webcast the video to save a quicktime file or something? I think I see what you are trying to accomplish, but I do not know of a way to have two FW devices, other than RAIDed hard drives, to read a signal simultaneously.
I am pretty sure that you can shove your output to the web to more than one place at the same time as well. I am thinking as in to another computer sitting on the network that takes the streaming feed and converts it to something that can be saved.
Just brainstorming here for the most part. Maybe someone else will chime in.

  • Need to split video signal to both HDMI and VGA

I am hosting an event and the venue has given me a really tough challenge. I need to send a video signal from my Macbook Pro 15"(the highest spec, latest model) to a projector that only accepts VGA and to an A/V system that only accepts HDMI(this A/V system broadcasts the signal to several flatscreen TVs throughout the venue). Here are my two ideas, can anyone tell me if this will fail and if so, are there any other solutions?
Idea 1: Use a mini-display to VGA adapter, split the VGA cable with one VGA cable going to the projector, and the other VGA cable going through a VGA to HDMI adapter to the A/V system
Idea 2: Use a mini-display to HDMI adapter, split the HDMI cable with one HDMI cable going to the A/V system and the other going through an HDMI to VGA adapter to the projector
Idea 3: Rent another projector that accepts HDMI, use a mini-display to HDMI adapter and split the HDMI cable, with one going to the projector and the other to the A/V system(this is the most expensive option and I want to avoid this if possible)
The event is tomorrow evening, and I need to buy these cables today if possible. Would love to hear any ideas, thanks!!!

Yes.  All video and audio outputs are always active.

  • Splitting video signal to Apple 30" & a Plasma (FCP)

    Hi there,
I have a client who runs FCP on a G5 with a twin screen screen setup (2x23")
They want to now introduce a Plasma display so their clients can see whats on one of the 23" screens replicated onto the Plasma display.
I have found some DVI splitter devices by searching google and they seem to be able to do the job, however they dont' seem to be able to handle the resolution of the 30" Cinema, and the client wants to be able to change to 30"'s soon.
Has anyone had any experience of doing this and can offer me and suggestions ?
    Many thanks,

  • How do I split signals?

I am using the DAQ input to bring in four analog signals.  Each signal goes through some mathematical operations specific to the signal.  My problems are these:
    1. when I split the signals to perform the operations, they do not correspond to a single channel.  Sometimes they switch around and one of the channels is getting lost entirely.
    2. My BNC 2110 is not collecting the same values that I see with a regular voltmeter.
I would appreciate any help I can get!!
    Thanks

Thanks for getting back to me!!
I first used a dynamic data wire which didn't work, and then I indexed each of the signals and used 15 precision data type wiring.  The signals are still jumping around.  One of the values is supposed to be in teh 10^-3 range, and the other three should be between 0 and 10.  Right now the tiny signal is relatively large and the other three are minuscule and varying at a much faster rate than the physical conditions would be doing.
    Any solutions?
    THANKS!!!!!!

  • Can't Split Signals from DAQ Assistant

I am reading three RTDs from a NI 9217 by using the DAQ assistant. I have tried to split the signals with the "Split Signals."  However, when I expand the icon to three outputs, it only gives me 1 output node to connect to instead of three.  How do I correct this?

I see what you mean.  In LV 8.5.1.  See attachment.  Only the top connector shows a connection.  The 2nd and 3rd don't.  You can't wire from them to another icon such as another waveform graph.  But you can wire from another icon TO the connector and it connects up.
It looks fine in LV 8.6.
Is this a LV 8.5.1 bug?

  • Splitting signal before the Box

Once upon a time I had cable TV.  I split the cable before my box and ran it to several TV's and was able to get "basic cable" to my TV's without a cable box.   The TV connected to the box of course received all my "paid" channels.  When I had FIOS installed the installer said you could not do that anymore due to the new digital signal, even with cable.  I was speaking to a co-worker and also my sister and they both say they still get "basic cable" to their TV's without a STB.
Question:  can I split my FIOS signal before the STB and run it to my other TV's without a STB.  Thanks......

    BenS wrote:
Thanks for clearing that up.  The TV's I would like to connect w/o a STB are non digital.  I have a digital converter box , not from Verizon.  I  got it when they had the coupon sale.  Will splitting the signal work using the converter?  Thanks..
No.  The coupon boxes are for OTA (over the air) which is a different encoding (ATSC) than the signal on the cable (QAM).

  • Canopus ADVC 110 - picture split in two, black and white, distorted sound

Hi there - I've just recently bought a Canopus ADVC 110 - unfortunately I cannot get the picture to display properly - I've spoken to Apple and to Canopus, but neither seems to be able to help me sort this out.
Basically my imovies does receive a visual and an audio signal from the ADVC 110 ... but the picture is split in two (top half on the bottom, bottom half on the top), its black and white when it should be colour, and the sound is heavily distorted.
The help people at Canopus tell me that this appears to be an issue with PAL and NTSC settings and that there have been reported problems with importing analogue signals from combined VHS/DVD players (which is what I have). They've suggested that the box (ADVC 110) is being 'confused' by multiple signals coming from the VHS/DVD player (this doesn't help me much though). They talked me through arranging the settings so that the Video cassette, the ADVC 110 and the VHS/DVD player are all set to PAL, then have changed the setting in imovies to also read PAL - imovies then tells me that the camera connected is not using the same format (despite the letters 'PAL' on the front of the thing) - changing the imovies setting back to NTSC allows the signal to be received, but in the way described above ... OK, then its the issue with the combined signals from the VHS/DVD player ...
... but, I've now tried it with 2 other VHS players (not combined with anything else, but both supporting both PAL and NTSC ) and the result is exactly the same - I've tried it with every combination of the relevant switches on the bottom of the ADVC 110 - either the picture is as above or imovies will not import (or allow me to view) the picture or sound.
I've tried different cassettes - I've used both SVideo and 3 phono (red, yellow, black) as well as scart connections on th eback of the various VHS players - I've tried restarting the computer, the ADVC 110 and the VSH player - I've disconnected the ADVC 110, and quit imovies, between each attempt - the result is the same each time.
I've tried to find more about this on the internet, but this specific problem doesn't seem to come up - maybe I'm missing something or phrasing my searches badly.
Has anyone any suggestions on where I go from here (rather than bringing it back to the Apple shop and asking for a refund)?
And sorry for the length of the question!

    Hi Estaphin
Welcome to discussions. I use a Canopus ADVC 100. It's similar to yours. I've never had a problem with it. I've used it connected to a VCR and an analog video camera. Then imported the video into im for various projects.
Try this. First clean the heads on your VCR. Connect an RCA cable to the L/R/ V out on the VCR. Next, connect it to the Canopus front panel - in. Connect the fire wire out on the Canopus front to the firewire in on the Mac.
Put the VHS tape in the VCR. Don't start it yet.
Open im. Set im for a new project. Turn on the Canopus from the on off switch at the back. From the input select button on the top left front of the canopus, select analog in.
Press play on your VCR. im should recognize the signal. In im select import. Your video should begin importing fine. The qulaity of the images on your computer screen will appear to be poor -- dark, faded, etc. This poor quality is for two reasons. First, analog tape can degrade fast depending on how often the tape was used previously, and how it was stored and at what tempertures.
Second, im will display the image darker because of conversion. But, don't worry. Once you burn the finished product to DVD, you'll be surprised how clear the picture is compared to what you viewed in im.
Make sue your DIP switches on the bottom of the canopus were/ are put back to the original settings.
Try that. I hope it helps
